Cause SD's "Tired and Emotional" and needs to "return to their domicile"?
(Go home smoke detector, you are drunk ;p)
@JourneymanGeek I don't really know. But that's what I believe needs to be discussed. As @Shog mentioned and as it was at that comments at @YCS question, that seems to be more a symptom of something going wrong in more depth.
Also, go home, Catija, it's 7 pm.
@πάνταῥεῖ more precisely, considering what Tim's said, how do we deal with people who clearly don't want to change?
@Catija pressing? ;)

that's kind of a problem
@JourneymanGeek Rather kind of a symptom as I've mentioned.
@πάνταῥεῖ where do you think current mechanisms fall short?
that is to say, why do people think its fine to scare people off as opposed to just voting?
12:21 AM
@JourneymanGeek I dunno actually, I want to discuss that.
"scare people off" Doesn't meet my point. Better filters maybe.
That's what he's doing.
What's a bad quality filter that's not overboard look like?
@JourneymanGeek Again: I'm not defending YCS's behavior!

(yes, large numbers of poor quality posts can be frustrating. But least in theory there's mechanisms that should handle it. Are they not scaling? Not enough votes/voters?)

4:26 AM
@SFTP that's incorrect
There's a site setting that overrides privilege levels on a graduated site and forces them back down to public beta levels. But it has nothing to do with any styling.
All privileges are site settings too, so they could also be manually adjusted if it was really necessary

@SonicWizard not a dupe, that's a new and valid feature request.

7:24 PM

@Catija exactly
@ShadowWizard It's really a rant about a ban.
@SonicWizard but with valid request. Remove the rant and you have on topic, non dupe, feature request.
I don't know that it's "new"... I've been talking about pestering the CMs for something like that for IPS for all low-rep users' questions... sort of a question proving ground before they go live on the site... high rep users could review them and suggest edits or clear them to go live.
oh never mind OP agree it's a dupe. Won't waste my time editing then.
@ShadowWizard The title clearly implies that the user intends to rant about it, rather than actually request a feature about it. Also, it goes against the principle about banning, so it should be closed as a duplicate of a question that explains the principle

@Catija ^
Also, things that don't work on SO scale often work just fine anywhere else.
7:32 PM
@JonEricson blocking any answer which consists only of repeated words should be easy and reliable enough.
@Catija Not really for Triage. One reason why that doesn't work is because of conflicting guidance
"Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo." is a grammatically correct sentence in American English, often presented as an example of how homonyms and homophones can be used to create complicated linguistic constructs through lexical ambiguity. It has been discussed in literature in various forms since 1967, when it appeared in Dmitri Borgmann's Beyond Language: Adventures in Word and Thought. The sentence employs three distinct meanings of the word buffalo: as a proper noun to refer to a specific place named Buffalo, the city of Buffalo, New York being the most notable;...
@Catija buffalo will find its way in, no worry. :)
@ShadowWizard Probably. I'm not writing that regex on a Friday, however.
Triage has three options: "Looks OK", "Requires Editing", and "Unsalvageable". The first two just advance the task, while the last requires the user to select a flagging option before the review gets recorded. One problem is, "Requires Editing" is only supposed to be used for cases where the post is a good, on-topic question, and the only things wrong are spelling, grammar, etc., but it's often used for a wrong reason:
user315433
7:36 PM
@ShadowWizard Blocking as in "forcing it to be changed into something else that does not match the regex"
@JonEricson Sure thing... it can wait... :)
user315433
So we'd get javascript javascript javascript java javascript javascript javascript instead.
@SFTP it will bore away some trolls, that's enough.
Many people use it on off-topic questions, to indicate that the question can be edited to be on-topic by adding the needed additional details by the author. Confusingly, the guidance within the queue says "where edits by the author or others would result in a good, on-topic question". (@Catija )
(See above message)
@JonEricson I assume you can keep that line of reasoning up until only the lunch break at Wednesday seem to be right time to produce said regex ...
