Today's a holiday and I woke up earlier than the usual working days...

Is there a way to query SEDE for answer to question ratio for each site on the network?

user315433
Codegolf doesn't really count as it's not Q and A

user315433
So, IPS wins by A/Q ratio, followed by WB.

... So IPS WINS!!!
:sigh:

user315433
Note: this is from Posts, not PostsWithDeleted.

Con..grats?

3:02 AM
Yeah, only the CMs can see that, I think? If it included deleted posts, I have a feeling I'd be even more scared.

user315433
No, I could do that but wasn't sure this is what you wanted.

user315433
I'll make another version with deleted.

Interesting that CS Educators followed after IPS and WB...
Or (the seemingly dead) LH

user315433
On the other end, Health, Stats, Blender and rec sites are the only ones with A < Q.

user315433
Surprised about Blender, I thought it was doing great.

3:05 AM
@SFTP Ah. There's good and bad... sites that collect a lot of spam will throw it off, probably... but sites with a lot of deleted answers... It's the problem with pure data... what it tells you is uncertain.

user315433
@Catija With deleted included, WB is ahead of IPS. data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/832993/…

But this also counts unanswered questions, right?

user315433
All Q and all A, regardless of status.

Interesting.

user315433
@HTTPS Probably because there are no questions there

3:06 AM
2206-1591... that's a lot of deleted questions.
615
Is that really right? Eesh... 618 deleted questions.
1865 deleted answers.

user315433
When you have 10K, the query deleted posts by score can be of interest.

user315433
(I know mods can search directly, so that doesn't really add to that.)

In case anyone is interested, this one only counts answered questions data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/832995/…

@SFTP It's more sortable, though.
@HTTPS But still includes closed ones, I assume?

user315433
@HTTPS Changes little for IPS and WB, where everything is answered.

3:13 AM
@Catija yeah

user315433
The condition in the query is AND AnswerCount>0

Well, it would exclude closed 0-answer questions, which I don't think count in the 100% answered ratio?

@SFTP I was more interested in the worst one :p

1552 instead of 1591, so 39? not much, I guess.
Thanks for the help! Great info. :D Sleepy time now.

user315433
Still surprised by the Blender stats (A < Q), because by % answered it's doing okay: 72%, better than SO and many others.

user315433
3:18 AM
Apparently, most questions get 1 answer, which gets upvoted/accepted. Efficiency.

On the other hand, PPCG is soaring in terms of answers per question

user315433
Yes, but those are not really Answers to Questions.

3:40 AM
@SmokeDetector Free NAA flags, because SE looks like a forum

user315433
4:00 AM
Looks weird.

4:11 AM
@SmokeDetector mystery solved...
with such click-baity title, there's a potential of getting into HNQ...
or... nah... upvote has stopped :)

user315433
HNQ doesn't bring "I also have this problem with my phone" by itself.

@SFTP lol!

user315433
5:35 AM
@SmokeDetector Now the subject of a meta post, What is up with these answers? Are these all the same people?

5:49 AM
@SFTP answered. AT&T. It's always AT&T...

@SonicWizard ah but I also cast the first stone closevote

@JourneymanGeek Damn. Didn't manage to get my RC flag in first. Anyone else want to mark it helpful?

don't you need a mod for that?

@JourneymanGeek As soon as one person votes to close a question that has a pending RC flag, that flag is marked helpful. RC flags are not shown to moderators.

6:31 AM
ah
can't help then ;)

6:47 AM
rc flag?

recommend closure

oh, man, when I was that rep questions just closed themselves and we had a lot more fun

lol
I think I used to flag for closure on SU

7:27 AM
Is there a flag for "KILL IT WITH FIRE"?

hmm
Yes?
Depends on whether you need the normal or extra spicy sort

Normal fire will suffice.

answer? question?

A now deleted answer.

7:43 AM
ah
someone pressed it then

It went something along the lines of "In forgot quantitative when banana magnetism uphill buoyancy" except mine was more witty.

oh
I NAAed that one

I abusived it, because it was trolling.

also works

Trolling is only allowed in burninate request titles.

7:45 AM
I prefer to refer to that as smartassery over trolling

Can't del vote that.
@JourneymanGeek Sometimes they are the same.

true
but there's quality

Trolling isn't always malicious.
Except for youTube comments.

and there's something that sounds like Ivanova's Minbari.

7:47 AM
@TravisJ It scored -3 or lower, and it's closed. Can't 20k+ users immediately vote to delete? (10k+ users have to wait 48 hours after closure to delvote.)

@SonicWizard Already voted to delete it a long time ago :P

@TravisJ ...saying you can't do it gives others the wrong idea

It totally does. Sorry.

done the downvotes

status-tongue-in-cheek

7:48 AM
someone else needs to do the creme de ment... I mean coupe the grace.

heh, techmoan?

@JourneymanGeek Yep, you should go watch other videos in that playlist. Basically, the story is that that puppet just corrects insignificant errors in others' YouTube videos.

If I wanted pedantry, I'd go on MSE ;p

@JourneymanGeek You mean...pedancy?

7:56 AM
Pedantry.

That video sucks.
Link me a parody next time.
If I was going to use a dialtone I would have at least stopped at the point gravity stops near the north pole. Not that you can get there on this flat planet!
But whatever, whot was the 5th point of that video? It makes me not want to watch videos anymore.
I can't haz type more of this.
LOL

@JourneymanGeek You're a quick learner.

8:08 AM
@TimPost I'm still very curious about out trend of off-topic posts. I'm thinking of restarting the survey I was using, since it's been a long time since you updated the official post on this topic.

@SonicWizard eh, I suspect that is simply low traffic + ease of finding the site when you're locked out of SO
also, I don't think people who post crap are likely to be receptive to anything but a solid beating closing.

Which "official post"?

@TimPost pinging you about a (minor) bug in Teams. The 'read' indicator for Teams badges in the achievement dialog (i.e. the disappearance of the light blue background) gets reset every time you reload the page: imgur.com/a/2tuo8

8:23 AM
@JourneymanGeek Removing content at such a high rate does seem to produce overall better content being preserved.

@TravisJ well, It would be better not to have that content at all, but this is a 'cheaper' alternative

Yeah, but that gets into predictive behavior, something which is essentially impossible at the moment. All we can do is retroactively remove bad content and bad content producers.

yup
But I don't think the sort of life choices that leads one to spew programming questions everywhere they don't belong leads one to fill up surveys over said life choices.

8:42 AM
My first declined flag for the year appears to have been thanks to a mod mistake... (flagged a comment as no longer needed and it was deleted anyway)

A mod mistake?! Grab the pitchforks! To meta!

8:57 AM
@JourneymanGeek I'm confused:

What's that gotta do with me?

@JourneymanGeek You're good at cultural references...I just wanted to see if that contained one.

plausably
why not ask the people at charcoal?
Its literally their culture

It means "a snack"
Not sure how that relates to the question itself though.
I vtc as unclear since it needed more info to be able to provide an answer.

Anyway, probably past my bedtime, happy Good Friday :)

@TravisJ To be honest, I was a much more frivolous pinger at that time compared to now

9:35 AM
Technically luncheon meat is something that's not spam...
maybe ham, but still processed meat.
@SonicWizard you're still pretty frivolous ;p

@TravisJ 'happy' Good Friday? Doesn't that kinda... Defeat the point of 'Good Friday' :P

I get confused to why folk from india expect people to get Lakh (not lack) and Crore

@JourneymanGeek Having traveled to India over many years, I can tell you that people in certain areas are just...completely unaware of the international system. I once owned a 5th-grade ("standard V") math workbook from there, and it spent a mere page over the international system, while the entire rest of the book was in the Indian system

that was vaguely complainy rhetorical.

12:01 PM
What I said

I thought what I said was worth saying.

@JourneymanGeek yep, insurance. The last ones I saw were far more "uncouth"
Once upon a time there was a valiant knight. He would travel across the land, clad in shining armor, fighting brigands and others nor-do-well in the name of harmony.
One fateful day, the knight went to the castle to meet the king and finally bring all the foes he captured to justice. "If I am lucky I will even get a medal", he was thinking as he approached the castle gates. He rang the bell and patiently waited for the gate guards to reply. He waited and waited, but no one answered his plea.
Finally, about 6-8 hours later, a loud voice was finally heard as a dragon-like head appeared from

@TelKitty wish granted.
Toriko (トリコ) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from May 19, 2008 to November 21, 2016, with the chapters collected into 43 tankōbon volumes by Shueisha. It follows the adventures of Toriko, a Gourmet Hunter, as he searches for rare, diverse foods to complete a full-course meal. On his journey, he is accompanied by a timid chef who wants to improve his skills. A short film was created by Ufotable for the Jump Super Anime Tour 2009, with another created for the 2010 tour. The manga has also been adapted into an anime...

Ignore the last link, that was a false start. I have my own Den now:

If you have time to worry, then run!

@SonicWizard eeewwww, the current code base doesn't support being in two rooms and the simplest hack would be to run 2 instances but that would defeat the carefully designed and implemented throttle-prevention. If that fails not only will the bots no longer be operational, but I would have locked out my self from SE network as well.

7:56 PM
The trick is to find out which one.

user387132
@Catija Wait, what is the entire point of badges and reputation? I don't get you

user387132
@SFTP Yeah, I tried searching...

@Blue Tag badges show that you have expertise in an area. Reputation shows that you've proven to the community that you know what you're talking about. I have a difficult time imagining SE being willing to verify that someone's actually an "expert" in a subject and grant them a special badge.
Heck, they don't even indicate their own staff.

user387132
@Catija Right. Verifying that someone is a expert and actively working in the industry is a difficult task. We would need a blue tick feature like they have on Twitter/Quora etc., which I don't see happening anytime soon. Secondly, it would give some unfair weight-age to the answers/opinions given by the people with those ticks. I wouldn't want SE to replicate that model

user387132
I prefer people to vote on the content and judge it irrespective of who is posting

8:00 PM
@Blue Ah, so you're trying to write an answer saying that question is a bad idea?

user387132
@Catija Yes

user387132
Or at least thinking of it

@Blue Yes, that's how SE is designed to work. That proposal is a corruption of the SE model.

user387132
Agreed

user387132
Thanks for the input

8:01 PM
I think if you take it from that viewpoint, you don't necessarily need any proof that SE won't do it...
Working in a field is amazing... it doesn't mean you know how to convey that information well in an answer. :)

user387132
Yup. Those are some pretty solid points against that proposal :)

Q: Is there a way to highlight special users in our stack exchange site

michaelmcandrewWe have a couple of programmes for people that donate time and money to CiviCRM. We'd like to be able to recognise these people when they come to stack exchange. Is there any way recognise arbitrary people here? Can we add custom fields to stack exchange profiles, for example?

user315433

user387132
Ah, great

user387132
Thanks

8:04 PM
I don't know that's quite the same... this seems to be in reference to something like a mod diamond while that's about a field on their profile?

user315433
Similar thing, a custom design element.

user315433
Not saying it's an exact duplicate, but it's the closest post where I've seen an employee stating it won't happen.

user315433
Of course Pops is not an employee now, but he was then.

That's arguing, though, that it's not technically possible and that, unless other sites want it, they're unlikely to make it possible... but it's technically possible to add a symbol after a username. It already exists.

user315433
Well, that's the best I could do to find a post for Blue.

Draw up five hats a month. Available for that limited time only. $10 each. Unlocked forever.

Oh, yeah... like premium skins... they don't actually affect gameplay, they just let you look cool.
Heck, even just one or two would work.

Anonymous
I am a whale for that crap, and I wouldn't be shocked if there were other users who fell into that category. :P

Ash is sporting a pair of bunny ears in Warframe right now.
And you wouldn't have to ship anything to people... so it wouldn't have the overhead of physical swag...
And, often, companies will pony up dough to have you offer branded content like that... so someone could buy a Chrome hat or an Android head, for example.

Anonymous
Doing this without annoying the hell out of everyone is of course a problem.

As long as they're static images, I don't see how they'd be annoying.
Particularly if there was still an "I hate hats" button that disabled them from your view across the network.

@Catija I put your point in, too. How's the answer looking? Anything else I should add?

Anonymous
@Catija Just 'cause hats are visually noisy and stack is visually pretty clean.

Anonymous
Maybe not a big deal.

8:23 PM
I guess it would depend on if they're allowed to escape from the normal frame the way they are during Winter Bash?
@Blue Let me look...

Anonymous
I was assuming the same hat system as Winter Bash. If they can't escape the frame, they could just be part of your avatar.

There'd also probably be a bigger push for being able to layer multiple hats in the UI.
@Blue Looks great! I think your formatting might use some work? I think with how big your second paragraph is, you probably'd be better off using headers than bullet points.
Alternately, you can actually put paragraph breaks inside bullets.

user387132

user315433
@JeremyBanks That's what I proposed in that post on CiviCRM. Offer badge-enhanced profile pics to whoever you think should have them, they can use them at their discretion.

user315433
No need for SE to do anything for that to happen.

8:40 PM
@Blue Nice update... though, the "let us remove accepts" has been argued and lost repeatedly... so maybe save it for a separate post? If an accepted answer is harmfully incorrect, a moderator can remove it. But we're more likely to get them to stop pinning the accepted answer above the highest voted one than the ability to remove the check mark.
I'd hate for your answer to be downvoted because people disagree with that last paragraph.

Guess so.

user387132
Yeah, I think so

user387132
Quite a few people from TAMU seem associated

user387132
Strangeworks has a shady website though :P

Wow, their website is... kinda annoying.
HAHAHAHA

user387132
lol, yeah

8:46 PM
The animated gifs everywhere is... not cool.

user387132
I've complained about that before

user387132
They don't seem to care :P

It's really distracting.
Some of them don't even make sense... like the one for "top".

@Blue Nope. :) Not for a while, and will probably note list employees at any time in the future. We will, however, be linking it to GitHub, and other resources. Already well into Enterprise accounts so not too worried about that angle too much. I do however want a news section and updates etc. Which we're currently working on. We're also adding a section about the standards and open source work we're doing.

@Catija Reminds me of Ripley's Believe It or Not

@Catija Even using "Quantum" as a noun would likely drive away many serious physicists ;)

user387132
(Well, arguably it could be used as a noun in some cases, but it doesn't really fit there, the way they used it)

I guess it's just shorthand for the full QC...

user387132
@Catija Well, yes, of course

user387132
But it feels like they went over the top in making the site look humorous

user387132
And trendy

8:51 PM
Heh... well, I have no clue... and if that's "trendy"... I'm clearly not.

user387132
Anyway, things are going more or less good on the main site

It looks like an angelfire site from the 90s.

user387132
We had a huge influx of questions in the past 2-3 days

user387132
After the SO blog post

user387132
It's probably going public by tomorrow

user387132
8:52 PM
So I'm happy I guess :)

Combined with the cover art from the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books.

user387132
Heh

Time to doze off now. Good chatting with you. Biya! (and thanks)

They won't likely make a site public on a Saturday... they usually do that on Monday or Tuesday...
