We have an office puppy

Samsung meta.stackexchange.com/questions/307966/… @rene @Bart @Glorfindel @Journeyman
@Bart cute! Is he rechargeable?

@ShadowWizard let's just say he has enough energy for a lifetime

haha :D

._. I think I am repcapping today
Mostly cause of what was nearly a oneliner

@Bart awwwww
Golden retriever?

@Bart #1 way to get no work done

was thinking lab, goldies are fluffier ;p

Golden labrador I think? It's the boss' dog

you're not going to "borrow" it?

2:02 PM
was checking a bulk data import tool found on git hub to see if I could automate some data migration between access and Sharepoint.
seems somehow... shady.

For a moment I thought @Taryn said that, and nearly had a heart attack.
Cause I think I hate access as much as @Derpy hates sharepoint

No source code provided.
The tool uses a free library, spimporthelper.dll.

But the library is obsolete and has never been replaced in the tool.
so the tool creator suggest in one issue to go to the library creator site and download the updated lib from there

@Magisch yup. Either he wants to play, or decides the plants are food, or finds the cables far too interesting, or needs to pee, or ... But ohmygoshheissocutewhoisagoodboyyesyouare

Sounds Dog.

@Bart Probably better that those things happen in the office than unattended at home.

the library creator site is a company site that offers this lib (free or with paid support)

Teams questions go on SO right?

@Catija thanks!
@JourneymanGeek what Teams? First or second?

@JourneymanGeek like?
@ShadowWizard you're really hung up on the first teams thing

@JourneymanGeek If you're on a team, and you have a bug report, those go to the Teams team by email. General queries about Teams go on MSO.

Q: Stack Overflow for Teams: Question incorrectly not accepted as duplicate, how to overrule?

DenisWe are introducing Stack Overflow for Teams in our company. As part of that effort, I'm trying to add FAQ's related to onboarding of new employees in the system. The problem that I'm having is that the Stack Overflow software incorrectly marks questions as duplicate, and does not allow me to eve...

First Teams is SO only, second Teams (previously called Channels) are fitting for MSE, I think.

2:34 PM
They have a special, private SO, they go there
Just be careful not to post on main

@M.A.R. not really. They call new project with same name as not-so-old, dead, project. It's terrible.

@ShadowWizard well, I keep forgetting about the first one and only you remind me of it

From Adam on Charcoal's Team:
> We had some discussions internally on this and (don't quote me on that but) I believe where we landed is that it's fine to use meta SO for discussions and whatnot, but we'd prefer bugs to be reported by email. I think there will be a meta post or an email or something next week to announce whatever our preferred approach is.

It's like someone will create brand new browser, and call it... wait for it... .... .... Netscape Navigator!

@ShadowWizard also, the term's a little overloaded
I guess the new VP of marketing can sort it out ;p

Technically, it's "Stack Overflow for Teams"... so...

@Catija oh. so MSO only, yeah.

It’s a Stack Overflow Podcast not-so-hostile takeover!

Jon Skeet in the NYC Stack Overflow HQ to celebrate One Million Rep, so we gave him the podcast reins to talk about whatever he wants! And mwhahahaha he wants to talk about… diversity and inclusion in tech and his work educating others on how to be better allies! Wait, that’s not diabolical at all. That’s actually… a really thoughtful and much needed topic to discuss in the tech space… especially now. Is he really that great a guy? Yes. The answer is yes. So, for this episode we’ve invited Casey Ash …

hmm... Cassie Montrose... can it be... is she Kevin's wife?
@FTP you usually on top of those things, no? ;)

@Feeds and so the Echidnasplaining meme starts once again.

they are both from NY... both work for SO...

4:07 PM
@FTP oh man... that's such a "first year in college" album
can't even listen to it now without looking around for a worn out couch to sleep on

Make sure there aren't any sharpies around, though...

Hey Denis! I think you might get faster response by sending an email to the teams contact address. :) In general, Teams is SO-specific, so questions about it go on MSO, not MSE but I think the teams email is the better choice here :) Good luck! — Catija 2 hours ago
eh, @Catija... Please don't do that
Better to have bug reports somewhere

Adam answered the Charcoal post saying to email them...

@Shog9 even about private channel team?

If that's wrong, fine... I won't... but it seems like something y'all need to get ironed out? stackoverflow.com/c/charcoal/a/166/2

4:13 PM
@Catija maybe by "them" Adam meant private email to himself only?

The teams team (say that 10 times fast) has been asking folks to email them directly

(think most SE staff got their own email in their profile)

@Catija that may be best for Charcoal right at the moment, since y'all were hammering on the mod tools pretty heavily. And I believe that the Teams Team are working directly with a lot of the teams using Teams. BUT...

@ShadowWizard No, it's about the Teams team... not Adam.

...and this bit is important...

4:14 PM
Teams team... hmm... running away from endless loop

...it doesn't serve anyone well to shut down bug reports when they do end up in public, unless there's a really good chance that they contain information that's going to hurt someone (vulnerability reports)
Ultimately, email isn't going to scale - in a year's time, this'll likely all be on meta (unless by some miracle we end up with an actual bug tracker after 10 years of using meta for that purpose)

I didn't even VTC that question... I posted info that I had and that @TimPost just corroborated.

I'm gonna get with team teams and see if we can make the guidance consistent, because I think this is already confusing folks :)

@Shog9 so questions about Teams belong in MSE, not MSO? Or both?

He migrated it to MSO...

4:20 PM
oh
But question is, should we close it? Or let it be, and let SE staff migrate at will?
e.g. we do close Jobs questions...

I'm working on getting that clarified now. Teams is a little different because it's not the most stable of things currently
NOBODY PANIC OR PUT PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA OR SOMETHING EQUALLY HORRIBLE, I'll get it sorted out.

I'll settle for pizza on pineaple. fite me.

Don't you dare set that pizza on fire pineapple.

@ShadowWizard the latter

Can't we all just agree that pineapple is preferable to broccoli on pizza?

4:32 PM
@Shog9 ok then... won't close them. :)
@Catija no no... pineapple is a fruit, it doesn't fit on pizza

.... tomatoes..... something something ....

yup
any vegetable can fit
or cheese

but but but. tomato is a fruti. frutiIIII!I!

4:34 PM
> As far as cooking is concerned, some things which are strictly fruits, such as tomatoes or bean pods, may be called 'vegetables' because they are used in savoury rather than sweet cooking

@Catija to be clear: email is fine. Email may even be preferable at this point. What I don't want to see is folks taking the time to write up a bug report and getting bounced around because they put it in the wrong place. That's really discouraging; writing bug reports is time consuming and frustrating enough already - the more unnecessary overhead we pile on top of that, the more bugs go unreported.

hand waves vaguely

Pizza is about cooking, so vegetable it is! :D

user315433
I used to order pineapple pizza for math club events, and it was well received (better than broccoli on average). But then again, math club,

Pizza is mostly a vegetable because of US tax agencies

4:35 PM
This one time, at band camp, I ordered pineapple pizza and they disbanded band camp.

MSO has the advantage that it's attached to SO. MSE has the advantage of allowing reports from folks with no rep anywhere public. Email has the advantage of... I don't really know what the advantage of email is, but let's assume there is one. Convenience maybe? Anyway, as long as a legit report gets posted somewhere, that's preferable to someone just throwing up their hands and silently cursing us while we sit blissfully assuming that everything is good.

Email has the advantage of privacy

well, the appearance of privacy

^^^^ Has obviously never heard of the NSA

but, fair point

4:37 PM
some mailling list / bug reports threads are public

Fewer people will read about SE's vulnerabilities if you send them through email than if you dump them in a MSE post whose rep pins it to the sidebar for weeks
And the only option to avoid NSA is ... sneakernet

We don't have vulnerabilities, we have unintentional features.
2

maybe a one-time pad with the key exchanged over sneakernet.

@TimPost and now we discover that SE is secretly inserting security vulnerabilities and backdoors into users posted code samples on behalf of [insert preferred government here]

@JohnDvorak sneakernet is vulnerable to evil-bellhop attacks

@Shog9 So... I've been busy since your last messages to me... I intentionally phrased my comment to be open and welcoming and to make the emphasis on them getting attention sooner. I understand what you're saying... the guidance from Tim helps... even your further explanation helps... but "don't do that"... not so much. Maybe I just hit a pet peeve of yours... fine... but there's a lot of shitty stuff people do on MSE and I didn't do that.

Anonymous
8:29 PM
@Taryn FYI FTP was mistaken, the dataset has been updated more recently than that. The ball has not been dropped.

Anonymous

If I can chime in... I think the reasoning behind Shog's pretty "harsh" response is tons of emails he's getting (sent via contact form) with bug reports, which he then refer to MSE, i.e. asking those who sent it to post on MSE (or relevant per-site meta) instead. Just my two cents, and how I see it from my point of view over here. @Catija
oh oops I'm to blame, lol
@JeremyBanks what is this?

user315433
@JeremyBanks The date is "Jul 10, 2017, 10:51:55 PM" for the posts table, bigquery.cloud.google.com/table/…

user315433
That was the one I queried.

@ShadowWizard Hence the "maybe I just hit a pet peeve of yours"... But to not get any sort of "oh, you may actually have an explanation for this" or "my preferences may not be their preferences" when I responded... and Tim responded. It feels... meh. I try really hard to be respectful of people when I do things. I guess it would have been nice to have been given some benefit of the doubt.

Granted, its description also says "Don't use this table - use posts_* instead". Which I didn't read.

@FTP Ah, I understand.

user315433
So the deprecated one was note updated (except perhaps to put that note). The other ones are indeed updated.

@Catija not 100% sure I understand? Shog refered only to your advise to send email instead of posting a question on meta, not to your attitude, which is beyond any doubt good and respectful.

user315433
Which still isn't great if you want to query all posts, but...

@ShadowWizard Except that I was correct. They do prefer email. And, again... I didn't vote to close it, I gave them additional information on how to get help.

user315433
8:39 PM
Also, it seems Id has no special role in BigQuery, the rows are numbered by something else unrelated to Id. So querying the Id column is indeed scanning all rows.

@Catija oh. Well, Shog jumped the gun then, probably before they had chance to discuss it internally.

Anonymous
@FTP Yeah, I just noticed that when I tried to find max(Id) and I exceeded the free query quota...

user315433

@FTP Eh, it's required enough that a merge/burninate request on IPS received comments from someone saying that it failed to meet the need.

Ano
9:17 PM
@Shog9 Why doesn't this post show up on the homepage, between the two that were modified 2 and 4 hours ago?

@Catija we're always open to emails. And if folks are asking how to report stuff, we'll occasionally specify email as the best option for various reasons even for the public site.

@Ano It's at -10...

The danger with that as a stock recommendation is that we send folks into sort of a loop where they get repeatedly redirected and just give up.

Ano
@Catija Ah, overlooked that. I forgot what the MSE threshold was for a second

Questions at -8 or below don't show up on the home page.

Ano
9:19 PM
I thought it was below -10 for a moment

Your attitude is fine. I wasn't criticizing that; just... Please try to avoid greeting folks with "try this other venue" whenever possible; a lot of folks will just walk away.
We ran into this problem repeatedly with Jobs -> Careers -> Careers 2.0 -> Jobs

Ano
May I ask, are you drafting an answer to the question of mine you retagged, or do you think the existing ones are sufficient?

It wasn't a stock recommendation.

@Ano the ones there are fine

Ano
Did you see the comments, which say that it's not really possible in SEDE, because the queries also pick up suggested edits from registered users whose accounts were later deleted?
I think you should provide an answer as to what the internal technical details are and why they don't allow for it (if they don't).

9:22 PM
if you can't differentiate them in SEDE, I'd say it's unlikely they could be readily differentiated internally

Ano
The question talks about edits, not suggestions, however. So is there no internal flag set on Community edits done by automated scripts?

Hi everybody!

The question talks about edits, not suggestions, however. So is there no internal flag set on Community edits done by automated scripts?

@Ano I'm in well time scheduled contact with shadowiz, no worries.

9:31 PM
@Ano ok, what are you trying to do here?

Ano
See my edits and allow others to see them
...without the thousands of pages of automated edits getting in the way

@Ano and why can't you do that with SEDE?

Ano
How would you filter out the automated script edits?
I detailed the different scripts at play. The HTTPS links, before that the MSO-MSE links, and before that, adding duplicate links to older duplicate closures.

I had some thoughts:
Some of you may well know, I was banned at SO and I ran a sock puppet that rep raised quickly for about half a year, and was tolerated by the SO mods (though there was even evidence about my identity) until I blew that in an Sylvester Hangover from chat (user0042):
What I'm wondering about is, what would happen if my main SO account is reinstantiated in a few month, and I would ask to merge these. Would the "user0042" ban be inherited?

@πάνταῥεῖ pretty sure merge can't happen when one of the accounts is suspended. @Shog can confirm, right?

9:37 PM
@Ano I'm not such a big fan of "speed", though I liked to drive motorcycles years ago.

@πάνταῥεῖ on second thought, if you merge an account into a suspended account, the result will still be a suspended account. But not the other way around, so... it's quite confusing.

@ShadowWizard Yup! That's exactly what I'm wondering about also. Hence that questions.

@Ano the difference between us is that your speed is natural, inherited... my speed was gained through training and hard work. :D
@πάνταῥεῖ sure! Only SE staff can give real reply though, I was just guessing.
(even moderators can't merge anymore)

Ano
I remember, if, say, you had an account with a remaining suspension term of 3 days, and another with a remaining term of 5 days, and you merged them, the remaining term of the new merged account would be 8 days.
This was why the old "deposit" account on Super User was suspended for a long time.
(Basically, mods would take a spammer and suspend it for one year, and then merge it into the "deposit" account, back when they could merge users.)
It got deleted because I asked a question about it

I'm no longer trying to undergo the ban right now. There were really funny attempts and cool sock puppets. I have no clue how they (mods) had caught me; probably when I exposed these at the SOCVR :-D ...
@Ano Blah, blah!

Ano
9:46 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ What?

@Ano Blah, blah! But very fast ...

Ano
@πάνταῥεῖ What?
Feb 9 at 11:05, by Ano
@Derpy Whenever someone mentions me without asking me an actual question for me to answer, I always respond with "What?".

@Ano To be precise: I'm not interested into your "speedy" non answers about that topic

Ano
@πάνταῥεῖ You can't flag chat messages as NAA.

@Ano Sure, and I won't try to do so.

Ano
9:50 PM
Okay. Discussion closed.

@Ano At least the discussion with you, and TBH your behavior annoys me a bit.

Whoa what the hell
Oh okay, not that dramaish
When I discuss with myself I get annoyed a bit

Speedy discussions with your _rubber ducky_ ;-) ...
Before attending the next meeting.

@ShadowWizard they'd both be suspended
@Ano ok, try this:
select top 100 *
from PostHistory h
where PostHistoryTypeId in (4,5,6)
and UserId=-1
and not exists (select 1 from PostHistory s where h.RevisionGUID=s.RevisionGUID and PostHistoryTypeId=24)
order by CreationDate desc
that should be JUST Community edits - stuff like URL rewriting or that crazy retagging stuff I did a few times
No Community-attributed suggested edits

@Shog9 Thanks, that's what I thought also.

9:56 PM
Edits from deleted users have a NULL UserId; they're not actually attributed to Community

@Shog9 Could that be done by mods automatically, after the ban is released from my main SO account?
^ That's one of my major concerns :-/

If it's done by mods, it's not automatic, is it?

@M.A.R. Well, so if I don't ask for it (merging accounts), they just won't do it?

@πάνταῥεῖ If your suspension is over, wouldn't it also be for other accounts?

Ano
@Shog9 I want the opposite

10:08 PM
Or do you mean something else by "ban"?

Ano
I want just those Community edits resulting from approved anonymous edits, without the script edits.

@M.A.R. I don't think so. I'm talking about (tolerated) sock puppet accounts.

@πάνταῥεῖ Why?

user315433
I would try changing and not exists to and exists

@Ano Too speedy, less thought

10:11 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ that's how chatting typically works

Ano
@FTP Perfect! Thanks

@M.A.R. Yup. But @Ano also answers too speedy at the Meta Stack Exchange IMO :-P ...

That's how meta works? shrug

@Ano so remove the "not"

@M.A.R. Wrah ... Dad attitude :-P

To be clear what I'm talking about: There's another suspended account of mine user0042, and I'm afraid my main account could be prolonged in suspension because some mod(s) getting the idea of it. @Shog9

Ano
Fixed this.
@πάνταῥεῖ [goes off to let the mods know] :)
(Just kidding)

@Ano I've been asking them primarily, if you didn't notice so far.

(Just kidding)
a.k.a. it's not relevant

@πάνταῥεῖ so what do you want?

10:21 PM
@Shog9 Being sure not to be bitten in the ass :-P

well, that's hard to promise
but I'd say if you avoid messing around you're probably fine

@Shog9 That's a statement :-)

no one has requested a merge of those accounts just yet

@Shog9 I know a bit about @YvetteColomb's story, and I'm in good private contact with her ;-) ...

then you kinda know... The trick with suspensions is to give some indication that you're not just biding your time until you can go back to whatever got you suspended in the first place

10:26 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ huh? I'm not sure what this has to do with me and yeh we chat privately from time to time

@YvetteColomb Just to cite "The queen of suspensions" :-) No worries!

user310756
@πάνταῥεῖ oh yeh I try to avoid repeating the behaviour that got me suspended in the first place as @Shog9 said, but you know that, I've been frank with you :)

@YvetteColomb I can confirm that you were frank all the time!

user310756
@πάνταῥεῖ :)

Frank? I thought she was Yvette.

10:30 PM
so THAT'S what happened to Frank!

user310756
Nice to see you back on this account @πάνταῥεῖ

I've been wondering where he got off to

user310756
@Catija you know what - we had a running joke in our family, my Grandfather was called Frank and my Nanna Mary - when anyone said - "well to be Frank" we'd say "what about Mary?" :D great minds and all that

user310756
@Shog9 we had a horse called Frank! (yes after my grandfather)

was he a tree-like Tavern regular for a while?

10:32 PM
@YvetteColomb I'm doing my best, and going to contribute with moderation at sites with lower throughput than Stack Overflow.

user310756
@πάνταῥεῖ yeh - it's a matter of staying off the site when not in the right frame of mind - for me too, for everyone

user310756
@Shog9 huh?

user310756
ah

Q: Indexes on BigQuery Table

piyush pankajI have a use case in which we have a few tables in BigQuery. Now I want to implement an index on one of the columns in the BigQuery table. But I am not finding enough documentation to do that. I found a few blogs and posts mentioning BigQuery doesn't support indexes. Please help me find a blog or...

Anonymous
no indexes. :P

@Ano No offence. But you're a user for several month, and you don't have all the background and interaction with well known users here. Thus your "speedy responses" just reveal that, and are going useless in vain. That's what I've mentioned, when saying that you're annoying sometimes. I don't want to push you off, but probably slowing down speed and getting experienced in more depth. Just my 2¢!

Ano
No problem

@Ano So you give up that attitude?

Ano
I just said, "no problem".
So, I found 464 anonymous edits made by anyone before my coming out, and after the end of 2013.
@Shog9 Why does this query have duplicate entries?

10:53 PM
@Ano title, body, tags - three history types

Ano
Ah, thanks.
