12:00 PM
oh wow.
I'm speechless.
anyhow, need to slip into a meeting. back later.

and that...is relevant how...?

I am feeling hungry....and one more thing this pure veg...
in Android on Stack Overflow Chat, 13 mins ago, by no9
well, its not chick food thats for sure :P

@Manjot I guess you have never worked on a software development project where a user reports a bug and you are tasked to fix it?

I worked on iPhone app development,completed my first Android app and now a days working on Blackberry app development.
If User reports a bug then I fixed with breakpoints.

12:07 PM
did you ever finish the product?
...
seriously?

I completed more then ten projects in iPhone and only one project in Android

If the user tells you "I get an error when I click the button", and you try it, and when you click the button, there is no error -- how would you fix that?

With breakpoints, of course!

If user say he got an error on clicking on button then that error would also come when I click on button definitely.
Can it possible that user is getting an error on clicking button and I am not getting.

ta dah

12:11 PM
How is it possible?

button.onclick = function () { if (!user.isManjot()) throw new NotManjotException(); }

@Manjot Work on anything that isn't trivial and you'll understand how.

You said this yesterday:
yesterday, by Manjot
I mean, if I want to become a part of SO then what would be a procedyre
judging by what you have just said that's not going to happen any time soon.

button.onClick = function () {if (userName == Benjamin Dumke) throw new SimpleUserException();}
@tombull89 that will happen one day faith in my heart we shall overcome one day :)

well, @balpha works for SE...any words? or just tears?

12:18 PM
After his retirement I'll try :)
in Android Updates on Stack Overflow Chat, 19 secs ago, by RobinHood
@hotveryspicy @DrJackal @surisahani http://chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/transcript/message/663636#663636

Oh boy
I just came back and lol'd :D
3

It is all because of you.Now tell me why would developers reproduce bugs?

to fix them.

@Manjot: I do believe learning that is your first step towards enlightenment

Multiple people told you already, people with tons of experience.

12:24 PM
by reproducing bugs, one better understands its root, and as such, fixing them. cause some bugs are sneakly little fellas and only come out when the conditions are JUST right

If there is no bug,developers reproduce bugs to fix them.

I even pointed you to a very good book on just that topic. I fail to understand how you fail to understand.

@Manjot I think you're misunderstanding the word "reproduce" here. We're not talking about creating copies of bugs, we're talking about being able to see the bug in action.
2

Oh! facepalm.

if there is no bug, you cannot reproduce it. to reproduce the bug, there must be a bug, there must be a reason for the bug, and by creating those same conditions, the bug comes out again. and then. BAM. its squished.

12:25 PM
Applauses
You rock :)

I'm not even a coder :)

Is it so? I think you must be teacher :)

naw, wierdly enough, i'm half a management major.
i DO mess with a lot of FOSS software, and report bugs when i can tho.

Google+

Well can someone post this image globally on all chat rooms?

12:33 PM
lol

Then go and check : done

it seems pretty neat... and.. will be out before diaspora.

Yes, surely. But this is just the 3rd time I saw it in chat I guess :P

yay! another social networking site, just what we need. What happened to Googles other Social Networking Projects?

lol. there were no other social networking projects. we were always at war with eurasia.

12:35 PM
they were washed away by a wave of buzz

besides, i rather hate facebook. its just so damned handy

didnt they run Orkut and Wave? they both dissapeared.

orkut is still around

@TheJourneymangeek it is? Oh.

wave got killed off. wave was cool, but a solution without a problem

12:41 PM
wave would have worked just fine if it was an upgrade to gmail that was 100% compatible with existing email systems. If it was an "email upgrade" and not a new product we would all be using it now.

@Hogan: and really, no one quite knew what to use it for

@YiJiang I wasn't able to reproduce this in Firefox 4 or 5 by the way. There was a very slight hiccup near the bottom-most message sometimes when autoscrolling, but nothing like you were seeing. It's not doing it anywhere else but chat?

@TheJourneymangeek people would have figured it out. I would love to have it available for my team now -- I have to look to other tools that don't work as well because it was never adopted.
I think in the long run something that looks very similar will emerge.

@TimStone No, definitely not. Like I've said, it usually happens after I'm away for a while and a number of new messages have been posted. I don't have reliably reproducable steps either

@TimStone I notice the hickup sometimes in chrome when I'm away from the window for a while -- but nothing that takes longer than a second to reset.
@YiJiang yes I've seen it too under same conditions.

12:49 PM
Hm, I'll leave the tab open in Firefox and see if it comes up.

(on chrome)
@TimStone we are talking 2 hours at least
an idea -- maybe it is also in combination with the stared items changing?

@Hogan: until apache releases a build.

1:02 PM
I have a question regarding the Tenacious badge.

So much lulz in today chats

@Reno lulz or facepalming?

Regarding the 10-day requirement, do any accepted answers newer than that count, whether they are zero score or not?

lulz?

1:05 PM
Just found another SE aggregation site - it basically just takes all of the data and wraps it up in different interface. http://www.streamreader.org/. It ranked higher than the AU question I was searching for, which is troubling

In other words, are any accepted answers with nonzero score less than 10 days old counted in the total number of accepted answers for this badge?

They are not, no.

@tom I would have facepalmed. hard. If I was present when it happened, but since I read the chat just now I lol'd

Actually, I say that, but that's a good question. As far as I know, they aren't included either way.

I've just downloaded "The mighty boosh" someone told me it is good.

1:07 PM
@Reno hmm...it's certainly a refined sense of humour.

What do you watch a lot on the telly? any recommendations ?

So as long as there are no votes on any of my zero-score accepted answers on Super User, I'll get the badge, regardless of any newer answers? (As it appears, there were a total of 5 eligible zero-score answers out of 23 eligible accepted answers at the time the last zero-score accepted answer was posted--six zero-score accepted answers with one self-accept, which is not counted).
See my profile on SU:
I do not want to be discouraged from answering more questions...

@DragonLord Yep

Thanks! :) See you later.

1:24 PM
See, here's the reason why we need the ability to turn all the coloring stuff off...

fair play to him for tackling it though.

@YiJiang i dont see the reason?... looks like a nice edit..

@Fosco I find it incredibly hard to read with all the markup and highlighting

oh, ok

Woo that's a nice refactoring of poor question

1:40 PM
Good Morning.

Morning /yawning

@Moshe Don't you live in Germany?
Oh no you don't. Sorry.

@Fosco That kinda rhymes if you have a regional accent.
@OctavianDamiean Correct, I do not.

2:18 PM
Hello -- could anyone tell me please whom I could ask to have an old, unregistered StackOverflow account merged with my current, permanent account?
It has only one question, but I'm very fond of it and want to keep it.

27
Q: How can one link/merge/combine/associate two accounts/users? (Anonymous/unregistered/cookie or OpenID/registered)

ChopsI accidentally posted a question without being logged in with OpenID. Is there a way to associate that question with my account? Return to FAQ Index a.k.a. How can you link an OpenID account to a cookie based account? a.k.a. How do I merge an unregistered account with a registered account a.k...

try this /\

Brilliant, thank you! I used the "flag" approach, let's see what happens!

@tombull89 It is dangerous to go alone. Here, take this: ↑
(du dun dun duuuuun!)

aww, I wanted a kitten.
But the star will do.

um, no, I gave you an up arrow.
instead of /\

2:28 PM
Is it made of wood?

then WHO WAS STAR?

speaking of made of wood.... check out todays shirt.woot.com

2:54 PM
@fosco wow... that is amazingly ugly

Maybe you're unfamiliar with the wolf shirts meme, but I think it's quite awesome (not buying though.)

I am familiar; it still makes my eyes bleed.

3:26 PM
@pekka what does klartext mean?

Iran has been testing missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload, UK foreign secretary William Hague says - Reuters

(the name of an album by Wise Guys)

aren't all missiles technically capable of delivering a nuclear payload?

Perhaps missiles need to be set up not to activate the payload at the wrong time?

@jcolebrand I can't imagine you fitting a nuclear payload into, say, a V2

3:29 PM
dirty bombs my friend, dirty bombs
Now, to say that they were testing ICBM style missles, that would be different

Well then technically an arrow is also a missile ;)

or "ballistic" missiles for that matter.
@YiJiang it is indeed. One of the first uses of that word. Also the rock from a slingshot.
And technically it's possible to make a dirty bomb (not super effective) that could fit on an arrow.
Ergo, the Iranians must be taking archery lessons!!! THE HORRORS!

Hello

Indeed sir

3:32 PM
Our nuclear tipped arrows will black out the sun! - 300

that makes two per site

I won't be joining google+, and i'm very close to deactivating facebook...

> Speaking in London, Hague said: "Iran has also been carrying out covert ballistic missile tests and rocket launches, including testing missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload in contravention of U.N. resolution 1929, and it has announced that it intends to triple its capacity to produce 20% enriched uranium."

I thought everyone was on Ping these days.

I want a google+ invite if anyone has one <wink/><wink/>

3:36 PM
SE Keyboard shortcuts bug: The keyboard shortcuts were taking effect on a completely unrelated domain... gfosco.kodingen.com to be exact. very odd. @TimStone @RebeccaChernoff

@Fosco @TimStone or @RebeccaChernoff

@jcolebrand I want one too <wink/> <wink/>

I also think about dropping my twitter feed and starting a new one that is anonymous.

@fosco I will hunt your anon twitter feed down!

3:39 PM
I say a lot less due to the fact it's my name, my picture, and it will be stored for all eternity (and a tweet of mine came up in my last job interview)

Oh I hope not a bad one.

It was relevant to the job discussion, and I was able to explain myself... got the job.

Good good. :)

it was really funny though... interviewing for a ".NET Developer" position, when they go "You tweeted this article titled 'Why we don't hire .NET Developers' and said 'this is perfect, I should work here.' why?"
believe it or not, I was able to salvage it... lol.

That is impressive. :D

3:51 PM
@Moshe A fitting translation might be "straight talk", "in plain English"
Leo gives some more: dict.leo.org/…

@Fosco Chrome?

@TimStone Yes sir.

Ah, BOM bug.
@Fosco Should be fixed now
I should make a note to check if Chrome's behaviour there is intentional.

@TimStone Thanks

Yeah, that was (probably) my bad, sorry about that.

4:07 PM
Not a big deal at all, I was just testing around with something and all of a sudden it tried to go to /reputation or /unanswered :)

Clearly the solution is just to make the entire internet Stack Exchange sites

I'm sure Jeff & Co. would salivate at the opportunity.

@TimStone yo dawg, I herd you like to stack while youre on the internet, so I put the internets n your stacks

> Write a GUI interface in Visual Basic to track down their IP, find their home, kick down their door and demand they stop listening to Rush Limbaugh – random 2h ago
Somehow I hadn't seen that YouTube video that the comment oneboxer botched up the link to before..

@TimStone the one where the guy was serious about using visual basic to create an interface to do something complex?

4:18 PM
Yeah, they're like "I'll go make a GUI in Visual Basic and trace their IP" :D

Yeah

"like i give a crap what language you use.. and really, you need a gui?.. shut up and go do it"

The sad part is I almost feel like somewhere in the world, someone has said something like that, and it wasn't badly scripted TV.

Somehow this nicotine gum is working... it makes my mouth/throat feel like I've had a cigarette. going on 24 hours and only used around 5 pieces.

@TimStone many many times.
@Fosco nice.
Google+ has been launched as the latest Facebook rival! Show your support for #google with a #twibbon: http://twb.ly/1Gc3JY
meta humor, isn't it great?

4:27 PM
Ugh. Few things need support less than Google.

@jcolebrand That would be funnier if I didn't have a sneaking suspicion they don't actually see the humor.

@mootinator this is why you're a hipster. you can see what's ironic.

Noooooo

@Fosco I need Google support. ):

We were talking about how annoying "philisophical hipsters" are yesterday =)

4:31 PM
@RebeccaChernoff You don't need to support Google, though, right? that's what I was saying...

@RebeccaChernoff you need google to support you, but google doesn't need you to support (evangelize) them
@mootinator ironic isn't it? ;)

@jcolebrand No, it isn't.

Hmm, I wonder if mine are grouped.

I liked Google when they were underground.

4:33 PM
@mootinator spoilsport
@mootinator wasn't that for like 3 days?

@jcolebrand Possibly.
I liked ICQ when it was underground?

Some people try so hard to be different, they all wind up the same.

As I mentioned the other day:

ICQ was a good time, somehow I still remember my id.. 1874791

<- 936882

4:37 PM
@mootinator aren't they still underground?

@mootinator aren't you the hip one... i'll get off your lawn now.

oh wow, was I really on ICQ that late?
19145409
and how the hell do I know that?

As I said the other day "I use my lack of tattoos to express my individuality."

@mootinator Awesome... I feel the same way about that type of stuff..

@jcolebrand The odd thing is that I downloaded ICQ months before I bothered actually creating my account.

4:39 PM
That is odd.

It was so underground when I first heard of it it was practically useless!
I had the same problem with Twitter.

but how do I still remember that account id?
remember when you could have an entire conversation and never hit enter?

@jcolebrand Same way I do. I have no clue.

some things just stick with you... that number just rolled off like ive used it daily.

4:42 PM
> WASHINGTON — In a blunt challenge to Republicans in Congress, President Barack Obama insisted Wednesday that eliminating selected tax breaks for oil companies and the super-wealthy must be part of any deficit reduction plan.
> Directly asked whether he now supported same-sex marriage, aside from the actions of individual states, he said: "I'm not going to make news on that today."

'must be' huh?... like, there can't be any discussion about alternate places to get the same effect?...

wait what ... I don't get this:
> He pointed to eliminating the ban on openly gay men and women serving in the military, a policy known as "don't ask, don't tell," as well as ordering the Justice Department not to defend a law that defines marriage as between a man and woman.
Checks and Balances anyone?
Is he over the Justice Department?

I can't wait until he's gone.. What a completely ineffectual, know nothing, arrogant and pompous prick..

@jcolebrand Um, yes? It's an agency of the executive branch.

I got that confused then

4:46 PM
@jcolebrand how about the idea that bombing another sovereign nation doesn't qualify as 'hostilities'...

I guess I presumed the entire federal court system was under the same protection there as the SCOTUS
@Fosco yeah ... warmongering is fun
different article for a moment:
> All this points to the much-used ‘user error’ acronym, PICNIC: problem in chair, not in computer.
since when is that a "much-used user error acronym"?
I've always heard pebkac

ha, PICNIC, nice!

Oh, she does lurk in here ... hello @RebeccaChernoff

@jcolebrand I've never heard that. Because it's a bear to pronounce.

@jcolebrand Sadly, that's ambiguous; could also be "Problem in computer, not in chair."

4:49 PM
how is PEBKAC hard to pronounce? o:

@Shog9 peb-cack

@jcolebrand The Justice Department doesn't run the federal court system; the judiciary does. The Justice Department is in charge of law enforcement. So, the FBI, the DEA, that sort of thing.

@PopularDemand may be why no self-respecting admin would say that

Yes, yes, it is very easy to pronounce when you're typing it

@PopularDemand ahhhh
@Shog9 just as easy as what I wrote.
I've literally said pebkac like 30 times in my life

4:50 PM
@jcolebrand See, if it rolled off the tongue, you wouldn't feel the need to count.

people literally say literally too much, like seriously... totally, like, ya know? :D

I count the number of times I've had the flu. Not the number of times I've had icecream

Would you feel better about the alternate spelling "PEBCAK," @Shog?

@Shog9 ok, you caught me, I literally used literally at the wrong place ;)
@Fosco beat me to it!!!
@Shog9 you do? Do tell.

now I'm thinking about ice cream

4:51 PM
I have some in my fridge
which is 5 minutes away on foot
I should go get some and then tell you guys all about eating it.

there's a bit left in the fridge... pineapple coconut w/ marshmallows & toasted almonds

except then it would be gone ...

chocolate ice cream + real banana + chocolate syrup + blender = joy

@Shog9 Yeah, all of us, too. As punishment, you should probably have to get ice cream for all of us. I really wish that could be enforceable.

@Shog9 Ben n Jerrys?

4:52 PM
cold stone

ooooh, bettterrrrrrrrrrr

@Fosco I was at a restaurant about 6 months ago and an old woman at the next table literally said "This soup is literally ice cold!"

Now I know what I want for lunch today ... checks' bank account ... cries
@mootinator nice. Except you're in Canada, how do they know how cold ice is up there, with all the snow

@jcolebrand Turns out it was actually only unheated soup cold. I was shocked.

@mootinator lol... i catch that word all the time now, since the girl im seeing says it wayyyyyyyyy too much.

4:54 PM
this ice cream is literally ice cold
^^^see how useless it is when used appropriately
(incidentally, I normally hate coconut, but this stuff is toasted & that makes all the difference)

@Shog9 and you have marshmallows in there, those two are complementary flavors

@jcolebrand It would.

@PopularDemand Indeed

@jcolebrand don't forget the almonds. Crunchy, nutty, fruity... Normally cold stone bugs me, too sweet, but this works

Annoyed utility guy: "You don't have any utilities in your backyard, why would you need a locate?"
Me: "Because common sense isn't always."

5:05 PM
doin' the "call before digging" thing?

Yep, putting a fence in the back.
Apparently they don't just run gas lines willy nilly across people's property.

No, that routine strategy is saved for important backbone fiber lines.

I would have thought they did from all the hand wringing over calling before digging :)
@Shog9 lol

"Verizon service is out again. Apparently some little old lady just had to plant some basil"

Our important backbone fiber line is across the street overhead.

5:08 PM
@mootinator that's a wonderful place for a fragile bit of glass.
I wish my neighborhood did that ...
I wish my neighborhood knew what fiber was :S
@mootinator "Because the man on the telly told me to call, I thought you might be bored"

I also called because I smelled natural gas once.
They told me not to do that again, as well.

Maybe they just don't like you, personally, @mootinator.

@mootinator lol

@PopularDemand Probably.
It isn't my fault their fancy sensors are less sensitive than my nose.
"Me: You can't smell that?" "Annoyed Utility Guy: I don't know what you're talking about. See this gadget? It says 0 on the display."

Maybe it was just something that smelled like the additive. Or stray additive.

5:13 PM
this Annoyed Utility Guy would make a great recurring character..

Probably.

(Was it really Annoyed Utility Guy, or was it actually Annoyed Utility Guy #2?)

(Does it matter?)

(Yes, it's much funnier if you got the same actual person both times.)

Speaking of annoyed utility guys, I got candy in the post today, lol.

5:15 PM
was it this guy?

@jcolebrand Both times.
The candy was funny because the postal union bosses were saying how they were going to tell postal employees to be miserable curmudgeons.

Somewhat strange request, but... does anyone know a really convincing GladOS impersonator?

Today is Wednesday but tomorrow is de facto Friday.
The next day is also Friday.

damn it's only wednesday :(

@mootinator Call them back. There is a gas leak at your place.

5:26 PM
I thought tomorrow was saturday
and then came sunday

Oooh, it's a rare Canada Day/Independence day falling naturally over a weekend year.

@RebeccaChernoff Huh, I was almost certain that Return-Path would be the culprit, but it seems not. Or at least it has no negative impact for same-subject, same sender in a short time period (still shows up as part of the conversation).

I need to quickly get a job with a US company so I can insist on having both days off.

@TimStone Yeah, but it seems like the only real culprit is it having the different +addressing string that goes back to the google group email. |:
Either that or because it is 24 hours apart, but I don't buy that.

Well I meant that I just tried that and it had no impact :P

5:31 PM
@RebeccaChernoff I don't buy that either
@TimStone which address had the +part

Return-Path

So a return-path with an alternate + address but the same from: address, right?

Yeah

what other headers did you alter/include?
presumably you sent these from code
just out of curiousity, what if you fake it with two google-groups email return-paths
I'm curious if this is done specifically on google-groups emails (special cased)

I imagine it'll tell me to bugger off since it won't authenticate :P

5:34 PM
Yeah, I was just thinking that :p
so we have no way to test that particular branch for true or false
idk either
I'm not sure if I'm prouder of my retort to the troll or the fact that two people upvoted it :D meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/96720/… (last comment)
reading this article, I now am curious ..
is my $1000 for a ~ 1400sqft loft pretty reasonable to you lot?
consider I live downtown, in a secure building, with gated parking, and quiet neighbors, and have all the "regular amenities"

define regular amenities

sounds pretty good...

@RebeccaChernoff pool and whatnots

@jcolebrand I pay $1000 for a ~1400 sq ft house, in the country, in the middle of nowhere, a gravel driveway, and quiet neighbors. So I'd say yes.

Whoever developed bacon was a genius!

5:41 PM
@OctavianDamiean THIS! I need to cook some more in my oven this weekend, I'm all out

Actually invented.

My next batch will be two pounds ...
> A resource that has an ID that is generated by the database must be created using POST. Resources that have IDs that are composite values in the ID that are known can be created using a PUT.
reckon the "can be created" really means "must be created"?

Oh wow, I just realized that of course my examples of Google Groups email (abridged summaries) wouldn't group, because the topics aren't exactly the same. Minor oversight on my part.

> You saved CDN$ 19.00 with Amazon.ca's Pre-order Price Guarantee!
I'm glad they told me that, or I wouldn't have known to appreciate it.

5:46 PM
@TimStone that might be a problem. q:

@RebeccaChernoff Well, shouldn't stop me from breaking the conversation that does work though I guess :p
Probably a sign I could stand to be more awake though.

@Hogan I found it through Scott Hanselman, but I'm sure he wasn't the progenitor
