12:00 AM
The fighter pilot who's also capable of flying himself by spinning his tails (not a typo)?

That's like the most stupid idea of the century. What cartoonist came up with that?

Well... Happy hour is over. Time for tacos and dos equis

Wait, is it in Sonic?

Wait... you're eating and drinking after happy hour?

Feels like that was in a Chuck Jones comic too

12:01 AM
@Shog9 and yelling at CMs

@Catija have to. It's lunch time

Well, my job here is done for now, going to shower and sleep... have a great weekend @Adam, @Jon, @Shog, and keep up the good job! (And see @Adam, I didn't forget about the comma! Your answer is always in my mind. ;))

@Shog9 Last week this was breakfast time...
I'm glad to see your schedule is normalizing.

PROGRESS!

12:02 AM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard I'm glad to hear I made an impression. :) Have a good weekend!

SE obviously doesn't care. If they did, they would have fixed my obscure bug report from 2012.

throwing bug report on @M.A.R. before going

@M.A.R. Link please?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Pretty sure that's a joke.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog lol he's trolling, he wasn't even around in 2012

12:03 AM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard dodging
What can I say. I am very sophisticated

Yeah... he joined the network in 2014

@Catija But you just said it's difficult for you to get jokes!

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog she's been exposed to MAR for a couple of years now

I have an obscure bug report from 2013, which escaped the Roomba due to a special exemption

Radioactive type

12:05 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog It is... but I also know that MAR is young and it's unlikely he would have been here that long ago... it's more of a logical guess that it's a lie rather than actually knowing it's a joke.

I do have obscure bug reports though

@Catija Under a different account, like me?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog @M.A.R. how old are you now?

Also I have a (real) obscure bug report from 2013. So it seemed real to me.

@Catija 19.07

12:06 AM
Eh. I fixed a bug a couple days back that existed since 2014 but was reported (AFAIK) only recently. Time is an illusion.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog there are a lot of obscure unsolved bug reports from 2012 for sure

On that note, I'm also heading out. Have a great weekend, y'all.

Like the fact that custom-flagging "not an answer" can be used to bypass the system prohibition against multiple NAA flags? That still exists.
@AdamLear Wait! ^^

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I doubt it. :) I'm just glad he's back to being MAR and not being a rotating molecule.
@AdamLear Have a great one!

I'm pretty sure that half of that isn't relevant to the bug report... also, can it be reproduced?

Whatever happened to Andrew T. and @Norm a.k.a. Crazy Ivan? Haven't seen them here.
Remember them from the Anonymous Editor days

Well... when you find something that works...

@TelautonomousKitty yeah, I didn't get why that walrus is raising his hands at a yawning man in your first pic
@Catija we're not cavemen anymore like back in 2012 so the chairs don't get left under the rain

user202362
maybe because the walrus is complaining to the man how his/her front teeth are missing ...

user202362
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog they are still here, but under different names

Also Pseudohuman isn't here anymore (cc @JennaSloan)

@TelautonomousKitty It's missing porgs :-(

@JohnDvorak and jabba ... probably :x

Recommend flagging it as spam or rude/abusive, since the mods are out

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog what the heck is that answer trying to convey?
A script kiddie trying to attack SE servers?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog That's really not how it works. There are additional penalties for those that shouldn't be conferred on someone who simply wrote a non-answer.

@M.A.R. It has all the hallmarks of possible spam. Plus, it's definitely abusive.

@Catija looks spam to me

12:56 AM
@Catija It definitely looks like an abusive answer (if not spam)

The only sense I can make out of it is "I'm responsible for the current attack on your servers. Contact me cause I'm awesome. "

@M.A.R. Hence, "definitely abusive".

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog internet connectivity problems

@JennaSloan A couple days ago it just got pushed further in the user avatar list; how did that happen?
@JourneymanGeek Ah, the folks from 100 miles north.
Please note that the question must meet quality guidelines in order to be accepted there. In particular, you must explain the specific problem and your attempts to solve it on your own. @Edric please mention the guidelines whenever directing an off-topic question here to SO. — Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog 3 mins ago

1:05 AM
@JourneymanGeek My favorite touch is that city seal has been improperly resized so that it's slightly squished.

@JonEricson Well, SE clearly appreciates quality graphical design. Especially in crayon ;p
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog don't forget CR

@JourneymanGeek I directed them to /sites, and since they want review it's likely they'll find it
Asking your question here is not the right process to follow. Please post it on the right site. — Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog 9 mins ago
What would you think of this idea: provide a survey link in the comments on every off-topic question on MSE, asking why they posted it. If people fill it in, we can better analyze why this occurs and use it to provide better guidance.
(cc @JourneymanGeek @ShadowtheHedgehog @M.A.R.)

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog No one would answer them

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog we do know why this occurs more or less
So many buttons to push, you don't even notice site design is different
Add the confusion caused by a new environment and language barrier
Voila! OT salad

What do you guys say I try it out for some questions, and if it ends up working, we all link to it? Then once we have a sizeable amount of data I can update my answer

1:18 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog leaving a comment under blatantly OT questions has been like talking to a cement wall to me. Even the wall looks boring
1 outta like, 50 cases responds
So I doubt they read comments
however, knock yourself out

@M.A.R. Some people do respond, as I recently edited into my answer and what happened in the most recent example

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog tbh, I'd rather spend the effort on stuff that's useful, and folks who post in the wrong place arn't useful

@JourneymanGeek Aside from the one example and Tim Post's (possibly speculative) statement, my answer is purely speculative.
What do you guys think of this?
@JourneymanGeek @M.A.R. ^^
@JonEricson How about you?

1:39 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog We've been tossing around an idea to poll users after they experience certain things on the sites. It would be incredible useful to work out what people think they are doing and not just guess from what they do.

@JonEricson You only look slow because of my speed :)

I went with hot wings instead of tacos. Something something not just red bull

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I like where you are going, but I wonder if we could make a pretty good guess based on referrers. Not sure what we'd do with that information, however. I know meta can be confusing, but it's hard to know how to fix it.

@JonEricson Can't exactly do that with HTTPS and all

HTTPS still passes referers. Just not to everyone

Better to know why it's happening than to not know anything at all

I’m pretty sure you can whitelist referrer recipients.

1:56 AM
I'm pretty sure ignorance is still bliss

@Shog9 A survey link in a comment is better and can be done by the community, without requiring any software changes.
@Shog9 "Nothing starts until you take action." --Sonic the Hedgehog

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I'm a fan of just nuking them till they know, then shoot them in the delvotes...

@JourneymanGeek Can't users see their own deleted questions, and thus see the comment?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog they can if they bother to look

@rene Since you've made this comment so many times, what do you think?

@JourneymanGeek it's not just about bothering
I know what it feels to be on a site you dont even know the meaning of
They probably didn't even recognize that as a comment from someone else
The screen looks so bizarre they can't find the comment even though it's in front of their eyes

@M.A.R. some of these people already have accounts elsewhere they use

so much so they named the company after it (again)

Well they find a site, they don't look around, they post...
I see some fundamental issues there not related to the SE model

Not much different from an alien trying out a computer for the first time

@JourneymanGeek Not much different from Quora

@JourneymanGeek they do look around, their brains doesn't process what they see

@M.A.R. how does a survey help their brains process?

2:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek is really neither their fault, nor SE's
@JourneymanGeek I doubt they'd read the comment, let alone click the link and heck mmm doing the survey
I have no idea how autocorrect turned a comma into "mmm"

@M.A.R. 'm' lies next to ',' on the keyboard

Q: Questions migrated from other sites, closed as duplicate, and then locked show the wrong notice

Sonic the Anonymous HedgehogThis question was migrated from a different site, then closed as a duplicate. Later on, it was locked for historical significance. The revision history shows it correctly, and the vote arrows and flag option is gone (as expected). However, the lock notice for historical significance doesn't show ...

@Catija dropped waaaay back in the MSE rep standings due to the 2 week vacation buuut, apparently I'm #74 all time ;p

@JourneymanGeek YAY!
It's been a tough couple of weeks.

@SmokeDetector Huh. I thought they added me to the privileged list.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog There's a different one for each room... did they add you to the one for the Tavern?

4:05 AM
@Catija I think only to the one for Charcoal HQ.

Angus is in there right now... I think he can give you privileges in here.

@Shog9 Now the migration notice is missing.
@Shog9 Please answer in addition to simply adding in

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog PATIENCE... FFS.
He usually changes the status and then posts an answer.

Two pings while I'm trying to type is just rude.

@Catija lol
Thanks for the clarification @Shog

4:11 AM
np

I was confused because that banner on the post on Veg.SE looked same as the one asked in the question and it was locked.
The migration was first accepted and then edited, voted and then closed as too broad by users. Then it was locked. Or am I wrong?

@NogShine all rejected migrations are locked (unless a moderator unlocks them manually)

Migrations can't really be "accepted".

Ohhh!
They land directly?
Shouldn't it go first to the moderators of the target site?

Should... probably... do... no.
There are a lot of different ideas on how to improve migrations... including banning them completely.

4:19 AM
Haha, the first time anyone has argued their own question should be changed from to .

One thing I observed is the users who have accounts on both the sites can vote twice on the question. This alters the actual question score. So, it is gaming the system.

@NogShine People have floated a double review process for them... users on Site A vote to migrate to Site B and sufficiently high rep users on Site be review the question and "accept" it... or mods doing the same thing, though there's nothing about migration review like this that really would require a moderator's intervention... sites are usually pretty good at judging the topicality of their own scope...
the problem is users who aren't on Site B who think "this sounds like it could fit on Site B" without even bothering to look at that site's scope.

@NogShine That's a design flaw, not a bug.

@Catija Yeah. They are either closed as off-topic or POB

@NogShine Depends. If the post has a negative score before migration, the votes are cancelled... if a post is getting upvotes on the originating site... it makes me wonder why it's being migrated.

4:24 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog It should be corrected either way.

@Shog9 What made you think of Texas here?
Feb 23 '17 at 5:22, by Shog9
Speaking of Texas, some anonymous benefactor has been beefing up the migration FAQ

Feb 23 '17 at 5:06, by zaq
The color reminds me of Texas A&M, those were good times. And of an album I like...

But why bring up migrations in that case?

@NogShine Depends on the site. I see it the most with the ELU to ELL migrations... A lot of ELU users seem to think that ELL will take just about anything in the way of questions about English... but they still do have standards for research and detail... so a good number of migrated questions are closed/rejected (there's no way to close without rejecting) that would (if fixed) be find on ELL...

I hear Texas is big on migrations

4:27 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Because Texas has major numbers of people migrating through it?

For a moment I thought he was checking the IP address behind the edit, which incidentally was from Texas
@Shog9 That was a coincidence, right?

@Catija I can give you an example of an upvoted question migrated to here from Hinduism meta. The reason given by mod was it does good on MSE and gets a good answer here. I was surprised by the reason and the user whose question got migrated thinks that a good upvoted FR on per site meta will be migrated here.

@Shog9 Sorry about that and the lateness for this.

@NogShine That's different... and I'd say a rare case... most migrations should be because something is off topic on a site.

Yeah. It is a rare one. That's why I was surprised.

Is there a reason that we can't just let users vote to close without asking people to hammer it closed?
These sorts of things aren't urgent. There's no reason to ping a staff member to do it. There are plenty of regular users who can do the same thing.

@Catija I usually do that with @Shadow when he's around, but I thought I'd ping Shog since he's around and Shadow's not. That said, I believe that blatant closures should be expedited (in general on all sites), as the delay may allow for an answer to be posted. Which contributes to the impression of some people that they should try their luck in getting the question answered before it gets closed.

Ah non, the staff loves smashing these things

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog It's a duplicate of a bug in the app. The only people who're going to answer that with any expertise is Kasra or Brian. I think it's safe to leave it open while it collects close votes on its own.

@Catija Okay, not so blatant, then.
@Catija It's the mobile site, not the app

4:45 AM
The tags are wrong on that question.

Eh... whatever... the point stands...

The thing is the OP of the new question added , to the revision. Not a new tag. So, is it still a dupe?

The dupe is the error message on a failed edit saying "your answer could not be submitted" instead of "your edit could not be submitted"... so... yes... it's probably essentially the same. The reason for the failure is likely immaterial.

This also happens for edits that don't go through for any reason, not just for creating tags without rep. — Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog 1 min ago

... yes.

5:21 AM
I... uh, what?
We have to phaseshift the meta, then phaselock it.

@rene @Catija @Shadow
The answers are in random order

Him agreeing that it was a good idea is not the same thing as him giving permission for you to collect the data... particularly depending on what data you collect... if it records user info like email addresses, that would likely be a privacy issue.

@Catija It doesn't record user info. The only things it records are the time and the answer to that question.
@rene If you want, I can give you the canned comment I use for this

Personally, I don't see anything dangerous with that survey.... though without any identificaction, fraud answer will be expected...
but with identification, more fraud answer will be possible...

Hmm... Guess it should be edited then. Suggesting again (one more time) can be valid sometimes.

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard What should be edited? Also, it's not in the FAQ because most of the time the edits are truly wrong.

A: Why are blatantly off-topic questions often showing up on Meta?

Sonic the Anonymous HedgehogUpdate: In an attempt to figure out how and why users post off-topic questions here on MSE, I've created a survey, which simply asks why the user chose to post the question here on MSE. Hopefully, the response rate on this simple form will be higher than the response rate to our comments. I'm us...

@rene @Catija @Shadow Canned comment there ^^

4:00 PM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog no... "we're conducting a survey" sounds like SE is... you aren't staff, it's not official. That's deceptive.

@Catija Changed to "We, the Meta Stack Exchange community, are conducting a survey"
Anyone here respond? I got a series of quick responses in succession that had the same choice. @SensibleAlexander was that you?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog not at all. I only opened that survey link once, read the options, and close it.

Well, since the timestamps very clearly indicate they're the same person, I've deleted all but one of the responses.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog you voted to close this question five hours ago

@M.A.R. I can't cast close votes
Hence the "probably"; I was assuming the 4 upvotes on my comment were from close votes, not recommend closure flags or manual upvotes

Is this on-topic? It's about SE, and there is a similar post from 2009 that was left open.

It doesn't seem to be SEDE-specific

@JohnDvorak Then what about the 2009 post (linked from there)?

That doesn't seem to be SEDE-specific either, but at least it provides value to the community.
