4:01 PM
And sometimes I go run a 5k race without preparing at all because it allows me to gather data on just how out of shape I am.

@mootinator that's helpful!

@mootinator: Good Idea when some dominating you or scolding you if you did a wrong thing then what you do, i feel sad, i got distrub

@jcolebrand It is

@mootinator: mate share your thoughts

@SankarGanesh It would depend. Some people are just jerks.

4:11 PM
This computer reboots everytime I nudge the table >_>

And sometimes jerks do also have a point, and you have to find a way to take their advice without taking it too personally or you'll continue having problems with them.

> “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
> “Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do and damned if you don't.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
That was one insightful woman... She's got a ton of great life quotes.

4:33 PM
@Fosco We should just put that in a little tooltip for down-votes...

@Shog9 Lol.. I could see that showing up in the Activity section after every downvote, that'd be great.

@Fosco In fact, I'm going to remember that, and use it the next time someone complains about being down-voted. "Does this make you feel inferior? Remember, Eleanor sez no one can make you feel inferior without your consent..."

I wanted to use that quote when my ex-girlfriend would tell me I made her feel stupid... better judgment won, though, and I kept my mouth shut.

What does that number mean? When I click on it, I only see two flags, not seven.
Four if you count the fact that one of the flagged posts has been flagged three times.

33°C outside... I am dying.

4:43 PM
@Mvy 9º here!

At least you can put clothes on if it's too cold :P
summer.skip(); --undefined reference

Ohh yeah, I choose cold over hot every time, but, the past two days have been freaking cold
we are not really used to that

well I'm used to -11 :P

@Mvy yeah, thats f cold, I have been only a few times in that temperature, and not in my country

^^

4:48 PM
@Mvy I was on hungary once, not really used or prepared for cold, it was -10 with somthing like 80-90% humidity
I was sure I was going to die

yep humidity and cold... bad day
well in fact.. wind is the real killer at -10

@Mvy that all we get down here, its never dry
@Mvy it bites
I had never understood why they used that expression until that day

It was below -25C for 38 days straight here in 2009

it literally bites
@mootinator I can't image that. Really, I cant

Woot :P

4:51 PM
@PopularDemand there are probably some mod-only flags in there?

@jcolebrand A reasonable conjecture.

damnit Adam always has better ideas than me :p

@mootinator ok

5:21 PM
Yahoo answers comes through again:

lol :p

LOL

5:34 PM
I KNEW IT!

@Shog9 That it was crack? Big whoop, so did all those other people. But, fine: I hereby promote you to "as good as an above-average Yahoo! Answers user" status.

I cut it off, but the right answer with its 1 upvote tied with the answer "I've never noticed it before"

Now, where can I find some of this white powder microwave cheese?

@MichaelMrozek thats because lou just look creppy
I mean
would you accpet an answer from him???

@Shog9 I already ate it, and it was spectacular. You can get some at the supermarket, but watch out for the crap with maltodextrin in it

2 hours later…
8:02 PM
Ah, I think I found the buggy WebKit code.

@TimStone Brave of you to use the definite article.

Well, the buggy code directly related to this issue ;)

haha

Oh, you had a specific issue you were looking at. And wow, nice work!
Someone's gunning for a blue name....

It's pretty disturbing that that bug exists, actually. I guess I should verify if this is the culprit WebKit code and follow up on one of those bugs.

8:31 PM
What's a good way to say "what style of programmer are you" where people might say "C#" or "Java" but what is preferable is that they say "a good one"?
@PopularDemand no, he just does that :p

8:49 PM
@jcolebrand "What kind of programmer are you?" :)

a lazy one primarily, but not too lazy

@jcolebrand "What programming language do you like using the most?"

There is an appropriate amount of laziness that results in better programmers.

javascript ;) :p

8:50 PM
Ooh, I'm sorry, the correct answer was "a good one." (One would think you of all people would have known that.)

@PopularDemand hence I didn't say language in my question
given this Q:
1
Q: MVC routing with optional parameter

Illy CoslovaI have this route set up: routes.MapRoute( "home3", // Route name "home3/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); But in my controller I don't know how to get the opti...

Which style of the two answers provided would you most likely choose?

@jcolebrand Yeah... I had been attempting to make a funny.

@PopularDemand I know. Hence I went for the straight answer :p

But to answer your question, the one with the explanatory text. Always the one that explains why instead of just throwing out a link or block of code.

8:56 PM
So answer my Q por favor :p
@PopularDemand is that about the ob'd Q?
I don't know which one you mean.

Ironically:
> As you've seen by @Muhammad's answer (which is BTW the one to be accepted as the correct answer)
(That's from the one with an actual explanation.)

What George said.

So the lower voted answer is the one you both suggest (the way I was leaning is the one with the lower voted answer)
Thanks

Heh. I was just trying to make a funny...
Yeah, I would lean towards Robert's answer.

What should we do about a hypothetical user who gets question-banned from MSO, then posts questions to SO that end in "Please someone move this to META"?

9:01 PM
@PopularDemand we should let the Qs get moved to meta, then close/delete the question on meta.

So Italian has this awesome expression: "spannometrico". "Spanna" is a unit of measure determined by the farthest you can hold the tip of your thumb and the tip of your pinky away from each other. "Metrico" is meant as in "measure". The end result is "yeah, I measured it. Kinda sorta. Let's just say I measured it with my eye and I tend to get this stuff wrong too."

Does English have something like that?

@badpssockpuppet "I eyeballed it"?

"I'm telling you, it was THIS big..."

"My eyeball estimate is you need to build one 64 meters from the other"?

9:03 PM
Oh, George. That fish gets bigger every time you tell that story.

I'll go with "educated guess" tho.

@badpssockpuppet "Off the top of my head"? "Rough"?

@badpssockpuppet Are we talking about a measurement?

@jcolebrand Using which close reason?

@PopularDemand noise or pointless myself.

9:05 PM
Because, then "eyeballing" would be a correct expression.

eyeballing is the most common

Well... it's technically a valid MSO question, although it's not communicated well.

@badpssockpuppet Guesstimate

and to say "make it a little bigger" we also have many expressions. The local one to me is a "scoshe" which is sort of a nonsensical word, and when no "sensitive" audience is around, we refer to it as a cunt-hair (meaning a small difference in length or width)

@GeorgeMarian Oh, I wouldn't have guessed. I thought that was just @Pop pulling my leg.

9:06 PM
@Hogan but guesstimate implies trying a little harder

@Hogan Guesstimate is also a nice one.
«My guesstimate is no chunk (16×16?) can have more than 1 different portal. So that makes 32 meters in the overworld and 256 meters in the nether. Roughly.»

@badpssockpuppet Looks good. And thanks for giving me "spannometrico." I plan to start using that.

@PopularDemand Apparently it's "informatic jargon" so be careful

:661982 that was unfair, I didn't get to read that. (fortunately this nick @ gmail works)
@PopularDemand same here.

@jcolebrand He fixed the typo

9:08 PM
@badpssockpuppet I will, but only because I have no idea what "informatic jargon" is.

@badpssockpuppet doesn't change that I didn't see it. Care to key it into the modlounge and delete it?

@PopularDemand "I wgetted the tarball and ran make install, but the gcc automagic makes it crash."

@jcolebrand Don't worry -- you missed nothing. It is late, long day, and I made a bad joke. Same as every day at this time.

@Hogan k then, I've already moved on ;)

wow... like deja vue all over again.

9:11 PM
So regardless

I'm going to ding @badpssockpuppet everytime there is a (removed) I want to see now I know he can do that.

I can't
I just read it before you deleted it

Exactly, you read everything, now I know.

@Hogan they gotta be blue for that.
I could've gone and begged a blue-by to come in here and reveal it to me out of band

Wow, I've no idea what that means.

9:16 PM
the blue users are the only ones what can read deleted messages
I know several blue users that I could beg to come over here

9:45 PM
good god how much effort does it really take for me to say "add +1 to my service. Keep everything else the way it is and don't give me any new features since nothing has changed in 15 months. Just +1 and let me get off the phone"
apparently it takes 18 minutes to do so

10:18 PM
Hola folks, I'm back.

Indeed

What's up @jcolebrand?
Instead of blowing 2K on a new iMac, I spent thirty bucks on an adapter and now I can haz screen space with my 24" Dell monitor!

ah, ya know, the usual suspects
working

Hear, hear.
@Fosco - Sorry, didn't have a chance to do the build earlier, will do so shortly.
lulz

10:41 PM
Instead of the "parent" view, someone decided to call it the ...
...momma view.
Interesting.

10:53 PM
me: "you need to call me back when you're not frustrated"
her: "but I just want this *@(#$*@#( to work, make it work"
me: "press this key and that key"
her: "but I can't see what it says, it's not working"
me: "did you do what I said"
her: "@#$@# I can't see it cos it's messed up"
me: {yelling over her so she knows she can't call me and ask for help when she's this frustrated to that effect}
{repeat the instructions portion for an interminable period. Probably either 3 minutes or 30 years.}
her: "I'm gonna have to call you back when I'm not this frustrated because I can't do this right now"
damnit, just go pay someone to fix it since you're going to let ignorant 12 year olds use it without supervision, instead of calling me from 300+ miles away
"In my experience, the majority of people who would receive that [help]: a) Don't read b) Don't care c) Don't read and don't care."
Jeff nailed it of course

@jcolebrand LOL

So on a rather off-beat topic ...
I've had like ... idk a dozen? ... people comment in the past week to the effect that I'm a rather attractive individual. Not something I had expected of myself, and definitely not something I was seeking feedback on (meaning it was all unsolicited). So while that's an ego boost, and definitely unlooked for, I'm just curious how that goes with being an intelligent geek
Also I apparently have a lot of enthusiasm and charisma.
Are these traits that a lot of my peers also display?

Well, I wouldn't normally bring it up, but yes I am an astonishingly handsome and pleasant to be around.

lol
Funny, too.

@Shog9 you do actually seem to be a handsome individual
Granted, I think I've only seen a few pictures of you, and not going to run off double-checking those facts

11:10 PM
If you're talking about my Gravatars, I must confess that they are somewhat retouched.

@Shog9 that's prettyfunny
I was pretty sure this was the guy behind the head shog9.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=346 (tis the only one in a white tie after all)

Heh. That picture is like... 7 years old now? Back when I still had hair and teeth.

@Shog9 smartphones are wonderful creations
