Is the advice of locking/deleting still current? Or is that just for cases where problematic comments are coming in from either the OP or other users? — Lilienthal 6 hours ago

Uh...I'm not sure, @Lilienthal. I'd guess so (not sure what might have changed that?)...but maybe I'll see if Shog9 is in Tavern on the Meta, and ask him. This is essentially his answer, anyway. — Shokhet 1 min ago

@Shokhet It's what we've done on IPS relatively recently... we'll flag for CM attention and close/delete.

locking it makes sense because letting it carry on dosen't really help anyone - and they need help, not attention

Makes sense, @Catija. ...I understand why those posts were closed, but I'm mildly surprised that they haven't been deleted -- if we don't want to give advice online, closing doesn't change anything. It'll still be found and read. (Not that this is a problem, necessarily; it looks like both of those posts contain good advice.)

@Catija Fair point. But, if you're not CM/mod, it may take some time until it's deleted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that users with a threshold score can lock posts unilaterally.

You're probably right. ...it's been a while since I've really been around SE, and I don't think I have protection privileges anywhere.

If you need any proof, look at the chatter in here for the past few days about getting the make your own hat post locked... only the CMs could do it.

If Shadow can't lock something on MSE, no one can :P

Not sure. If a mod's acting, then they can just delete. If users are acting, they can close first and then delete... closing prevents answers.

Hopefully, flagging and contacting CMs will take care of it much more quickly than user Cvs will. (Depending on the speed and reliability of user-closing on whatever SE site you're on.)

If it's middle of the night in the US, stuff on IPS can be closed in 30 minutes because we have a lot of active European close voters... but all of the mods are asleep.
