I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like your poop if you did that. They had that indigestible oil (olestra?) and it gave people who ate too much of it "anal leakage"... I've also heard of fat bonding molecules that are in pills you can take to prevent your body from collecting the fat and, again... not good for pooping.

My point is that it is getting overused to the point of frustration. I can see moving off-channel for a thorough discussion, but the way it is being used it is removing comments as the chat moves out of band. I mean, I did my research and the data I used was correct according to the internet. It's a stats on something before I was born. One of our room's regular user created a room with the same name and added 2 ROs as RO of this new one

You'd definitely want to avoid the impression of "if you close this one, I'll just open up another one"

Moderating more as RO isn't the answer. There'll always be times where no RO is around. You have to make a room that won't degenerate into a racist slurfest the moment you leave.

So your answer to how to stop the room from degenerating is to always have a RO present

make @Bart an RO. he's active 24x7

I'm unconvinced that it'll work. You need to get rid of people that make these comments when no RO is present

as someone who's active in a chat room, the real work of moderation is in basically making things such that people know what's right.

Here is my proposal that I won't put it on the answer: create 2 chat rooms, 1 on SO (and always preserve its on-topicness & Be Nice rule), and create another one outside SO for..... anything goes.

I hardly if ever need to directly stick my nose in to tell people to behave, cause most folks know what's expected. If you can't do that, things won't work

if you can't get your regulars to know not to misbehave then it's a losing battle
