user315433
@CodyGray: Yes, that's true. When I have a chance, I recommend new employees start answering meta questions. But, unfortunately, as with many programmers on main, there's a perception that Meta is touchy and judgmental. I know it's a small thing, but people don't know how to take a meta downvote or comments suggesting they use a red, freehand circle. — Jon Ericson ♦ 1 hour ago

in case you are wondering about that, Kali is sort of like the PHP of Linux distros, there are hordes of unsophisticated users and so they tend to repel people who actually understand what's inside

If I made an auth request with scope no_expiry, can I store the access token in db permanently

Sure, but I don't know if the token needs to be used now and then to prevent expiring anyway. Only an experiment can tell.

so you are saying that there may be chances of expiry due to inactivity, right?

9:08 AM
yes, but that is just a guess, there is no indication in the docs or on meta this is actually implemented. It is just what I would expect to be in place when handing out authentication tokens.

You get an authentication token, you get an authentication token, EVERYBODY GETS AN AUTHENTICATION TOKEN

anybody know the params required to add flag?
https://api.stackexchange.com/2.2/comments/{id}/flags/add?key={key}&site=stackoverflow&access_token={token}&option_id=33790
didn't work
produce 400 Bad Req

user315433
@SagarV Must be a POST request, not GET

user315433
As with other write API methods.

So what about the params? should I send it via post or attach it to url?

user315433
12:51 PM
In a POST request, parameters go to the request body, not the URL.

hmm but there are cases we use both

user315433
  var request = 'https://api.stackexchange.com/2.2/comments/' + commentId + '/flags/add';
  var payload = {site: site, id: commentId.toString(), option_id: opt, key: ApiKey, access_token: Token, filter: filter, preview: false};

user315433
The Id of the object being written to is in the URL, the rest in the POST payload.

why commentId used both in url and in req body ?

user315433
¯_(ツ)_/¯ This is how the docs describe it.

user315433
12:57 PM
Can't omit it from the URL because the path /2.2/comments/flags/add wouldn't be valid, I think.

yes it is necessary in url
but again in body?
@Michelle oh you're missing a hand

I suggest working with the console on the docs page api.stackexchange.com/docs/create-comment-flag until you get it right. Make sure the option_id parameter is obtained for each comment from /flag/options

@Michelle the console is not working. also there is a 404 error on the browser console
yes option_id is obtained from flag/options

You may want to sniff SE app's packet (refer to Is there a real time wifi traffic analyzer for Android?)

user315433
Hm. Write methods also require the application to have a currently visible Stack Apps post to which it's linked.

user315433
But I don't know what the console 404 is about.

(too bad my country blocks VPN, can't test it for you)

1:18 PM
@Elias which country you're from?
blocking SE ?

Somewhere on South-East Asia. Blocking VPN only, not SE.

user315433
@Elias That's a bit extreme, there are several open source tools that already use the API for flagging. Like my enhanced review, for example.

hmm
@Michelle the line says
The application responsible for creating content via the API may be indicated with a link to an app's Stack Apps post.
may be. is it necessary?

user315433
Here it casts a close vote

user315433
@SagarV It means that the site may add text like " -- via Sagar V's app" to the comments you create with the app. Which it used to do, in fact (not anymore). For this to be possible, a currently visible Stack Apps post is required (the text would be linked to it)

$.post(url, payload, 'json').done(function(data) {
       console.log(data);
});

user315433
Ah, the SE API docs console is buggy. Been a while since I used it.

hmm

user315433
I don't know if filter: 'default' is allowed, I use specific filter or none at all

user315433
Otherwise looks okay. The id must be a string, not a number.

yes id is a string

2:13 PM
@Michelle filter should be left out indeed.

@rene not required?

you can leave it out if you don't have a filter

user315433
@Pharap Subjects like this have no future in Stack Exchange if we can't figure out if these questions can be "answered" in our Q&A format rather than discussed. There are plenty of discussion forums on the web, but attaching a chat room to host answers here is no better than leaving them in comments. Answers should be posted as 'answers' below, or this site simply does not "work". — Robert Cartaino ♦ 30 mins ago

user315433
But following Jon's mining town / auxiliary town analogy, what's the big deal if IPS is a discussion forum? Its purpose is to provide entertainment for people in need of a break from sites like SO. It could use comments for discussion, or run on phpBB or whatever. As long as it's entertaining.

@Shog9 I made some queries in SEDE that flush out serial upvoting and voting rings. Initial sampling by me makes me hopeful they're quite accurate. Maybe they could be of use for you? data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/708836/… and data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/edit/708918

buh It get updated weekly

Shog has access to the backend DB
So he can run those on the backend

I think he didn't have access
CM's have tools to reverse scripts but don't have access to db

hm
Lets see if he finds those useful

user315433
4:25 PM
@SagarV They can read un-sanitized DB, but probably cannot write.

I may have spent half my workday learning SEDE because the script query to identify serial upvoters wasn't delivering me enough things to flag

check my app's initial version
that id's are comments that should be deleted from Stack Overflow.
most of them get deleted at the very single flag (immediately marked as helpful)
no db is implemented. It is JS array. So if 2 people tried concurrently, they may face issue as of now

user315433
Whose token is used by the app? Certainly not mine since there is no login.

user315433

Maybe show the text of comments instead of number? You can get the text of 100 comments with one API call.

(It's kind of weird how it takes 1 API call to read 100 comments, and 200 calls to flag them.)

The CM team was just talking about this on a call a few hours ago, @Justin. One of the other things I've been investigating is a new service some 3rd-party folks are looking to launch for real-time classification of comments; they just finished analyzing a test block of data I sent 'em, and report 99.5% accuracy - if further tests pan out, this might be something we could wire in as a beefed-up version of what Andy's already been doing, with indicators to let folks know what's going on: UI could be something like, "this comment will be removed in 30...29...28... (dispute)" — Shog9 ♦ 1 hour ago

user315433
Depends on what "99.5% accuracy" means. For example, one can achieve that kind of accuracy in classifying spam by saying "not spam" to every post.
