Bird migration is the regular seasonal movement, often north and south along a flyway, between breeding and wintering grounds. Many species of bird migrate. Migration carries high costs in predation and mortality, including from hunting by humans, and is driven primarily by availability of food. It occurs mainly in the northern hemisphere, where birds are funnelled on to specific routes by natural barriers such as the Mediterranean Sea or the Caribbean Sea. Historically, migration has been recorded as much as 3,000 years ago by Ancient Greek authors including Homer and Aristotle, and in the Book...

user202362
birds definitely cover longer distance than migrating mammals that are limited by the boundary of land they are on ...

user202362
looks flying is definitely faster than migrating on land

A lot of loan offers in answers there. They still appear, but Spring 2016 was the prime time for those.

At least it's not programming.

Due to heavy rush in train, I travelled by standing near the door
Caught by RPF
Asked me to pay fine
Used my political influence

You're not allowed to stand in a train?

yes. but not near the door

I'm in a train now btw ...

the particular section (rule)

9:41 AM
@SagarV I can assure you that on morning rush hour we stand everywhere ...

yes. many people stand in the door. Even I am doing this for years.
But the problem is their superior officers give them quota. like they should catch these much person in the month

So you didn't get a fine, instead you go to prison for three months ?????
@SagarV LOL,WUT?

So to complete the quota, they will catch even if we didn't do that

Awesome

@rene it's upto the court. If we didn't pay the fine or misbehave in court, they will sent us into prison

9:43 AM
This is like paying software engineers by LOC

@rene Today they caught 20 of us. I am the only one escaped from fine
@rene exactly. This is everywhere. Train Ticket examiner, traffic police, normal police, everyone have this quota

hold on, need to show my ticket ...

ok

Ok, all settled

hmm. I stepped down from the train to give way to other. at that time, they caught me

9:47 AM
So your courtesy caught you ...
That should teach you!

@rene ~O_O~
don't give way for others. Do our own business :-)
Hi @Yve

@SagarV well that is the kind of behavior you'll get as a result of this ...

@rene I argued directly but they didn't mind it. So I had to use my influence

@SagarV hello:)

@YvetteColomb some days before you asked about my pets. here is one of them

9:56 AM

10:44 AM
@SagarV that is a VERY large dog ;p
@YvetteColomb in india... folks don't always know ;p

@JourneymanGeek lol I saw an amazing video about markets on a train track and when the train comes - they fetch up all the stalls on the track and hold them back while the train goes through - I can't remember exactly where it was - It was Asia - not in India - hm thinking

iirc thailand or vietnam
MAAAYBE laos

11:23 AM
@YvetteColomb one actually, to amsterdam, and then a bus .. now arrived at dest.

@rene like this?

@SagarV no, fortunately not. There were maybe 10 passengers in the bus (and none on top).

oh you're lucky

I also notice that "Stack Overflow" link in the Company section goes to stackoverflow.com ... should that be stackoverflow.com/company ?

user315433
"Company" -> a bunch of JavaScript questions is an unexpected transition.

2:22 PM
@Michelle This is working as intended. The "Company" header for that column links to the company about page. The Stackoverflow item is meant to feature our main site. Yes, its a bit of a compromise when we collapsed down our footer links to work for the Q&A network sites. Hopefully people can figure it out.

Makes sense. The price you pay for rebranding...

Not by Joel. Discourse was done by Jeff Atwood. discourse.org

Yes! Thank you!

Why in classic Japanese horrors, those female ghosts tend to act like whore? In the ring, this long haired woman wearing wet dress crawled towards a man ... and in The Grudge, the female ghost is more direct - she went right into your bed - very safe for work but if you have heart conditions, please watch it at your discretion

user202362
and they are so confident about their looks!

Because.... Japan?
Though I really admire those classical horrors... nowadays horrors are... comedy :/

@AdamLear hi, Adam! NicolasChabanovsky is on vacation now, could you please force transfer transifex DB into new build? // Just want to see new footer translated on ruSO.

user202362
The looks that can kill - Japanese horror ghosts

?

3:19 PM
Probably because the scene in The Ring was somehow based on a scene from Video Girl Ai. An anime / manga that despite having probably good intentions and attempting a romance / science fiction genre, was also plagued with the bane of fanservice-because-it-sellls. And sadly the plot only gave excuses for more fanservice.
Anyway, if you are looking at common tropes in The Ring, I would move my attention to other cliches like the "young dead girl dressed in white, died in a well, black long hairs covering the face"
Furthermore, Japan narrative and folklore seems to just "love" telling stories about women whose death is somehow connected to a well.
If I recall correctly, a "died-in-a-well girl" appears even in one of Murakami books.
Probably dates back to Konjaku hyakki shūi, a book that among the other describes a yokai called Kyōkotsu
> Kyōkotsu are formed from bones which were improperly disposed of by being discarded down a well. The bones may come from a murder or a suicide victim, or someone who died after accidentally falling into a well

this happens me frequently. What to do

@alexolut I can't right this moment, but I will in an hour or so.

@AdamLear thanks!

This closed question may be real after all: 36K views, and I just now flag-nuked 4 thank-you comments under the answer.

4:04 PM
@AdamLear who are all the people behind http -> https ?

@Michelle not quite sure how to read this map; if color represents # of accounts, what does circle size represent? Traffic? And why are circles stacked in some areas; if they're trying to represent individual cities, then I have to wonder how many cities are obscured do to poor choice of z-order.

4:23 PM
@Shog9 when merging account, what will happen to flag count? will it combine flags from both accounts?

drops to -1 and stays there forever
j/k - it should attribute all past flags to the remaining account.

I mean I raised 1K helpful flags in account X and 500 helpful flags in Y. so when merging X and Y will it become 1.5K or the biggest one that is 1K ?

should be 1.5K, unless some flags don't count for whatever reason

@Shog9 thanks for the info. If I am out of flags in an account and raised some flags on the next account, is it a rule violation?

@SagarV yes

4:26 PM
I mean for different posts. not for same post
?

sort of bummed boltclock deleted the Old Yeller response to the abandonment of docs...

user315433
4:57 PM
@Shog9 Both size and color represent # of accounts. Size is proportional to it, the color only emphasizes the distinction by being different in three ranges. (So, all red circles are larger than all green ones.) And some circles are large enough so that other cities are on top / below them.

@Shog9 those bubble maps are awful, imo

user315433
Do you prefer heat maps?

yeah... That's not ideal, especially without labels.

The new footer applied to all sites.
When will the topbar applied?
Welcome our new mod @CodyGray

user315433
Hopefully never.

In a meta post, I saw an employee said it will happen in 6-8 weeks.
SO staffs count as follows 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,...

Oh no. We count: 0,1,2,3,...

Oh. so 0,1,2,3,4,5,7,9,... right?
time to leave office. It's 10.45 PM.
@Sha you got a good chance to bomb me since I may not be available on next 2 days. Enjoy:)

A: Did the site policy regarding link-to-tool answers change?

Shog9Almost 30 comments here, an hour of discussion, and I'm both the first person to answer and the first person to downvote the answer being discussed? Y'all are slacking. Anyway... "Very low quality" is subjective, one of those "I know it when I see it" things. I wouldn't consider that answer VL...

Also edited the question, but given the years of views and answers I'm of two minds about it; might make more sense to roll it back and merge it into some other question.

the lack of downvotes was ... well ... a missed opportunity I would say....

Meta effect avoided? What blasphemy was that...

The meta crowd was busy testing the new mod ...

@AdamLear good! Thanks. But I forgot to translate "Company" word before you did pushing.

@alexolut Is it translated now? I can do another update today

7:02 PM
Didn't translated? It's nick's mistake

@AdamLear yes. It would be cool. :)

sometimes you really wish it says Shog9 is typing a comment ...

@rene That's the default state, no?

@JonEricson Oh, yes ... sure ... but I mean under the same answer ...
specially if my comment has roughly the same message but his is worded 10-times better

Been there. ;-)

@rene comment? Isn't it "clarification" now? ;)
@SagarV not here.... and might not have time... but who knows.... :D

ha

I tried to reproduce a bug in MSE when editing title but I can't. Then I abandoned the edit. even after 10 minutes of cancelling the edit, the error message stay there (which says title must be 15 character long). Didn't raising in meta because I am not 100% sure is this a bug or a problem with my browser. But it will be good if someone look into it

Pets got 2 pro tem nominations which is 1 more than last time. Data Science also have 2 nominations but that is 1 fewer than they are going to elect.

That is a nice feature Windows to block files that might harm my PC. But ... I'm a dev and I actually need to install cmake-gui.exe and all others files to actually do my work. Please trust me?

8:26 PM
@rene it may be a fix released after the Ransomeware attack

@SagarV sure

Time to sleep. It's 2.02 AM
