I'm tempted to put my name down for the moderator nominations on Language Learning...
but my rep is like 200 vs their 1000s (granted I have more Meta participation than most of them ;p)
I know I'll be downvoted and probably guilted into removing my nomination ;-;

It's said somewhere (don't remember) that CoGro avoid picking the most prolific answerers as mods, when practical.

user315433

But 200 vs 1000 is indeed a big difference (especially after 100 bonus is subtracted)

160% symmetric difference

There's not a lot of voting anymore now that things have slowed down since the start of private beta
Most of them haven't moved up much more than like +20 for a few weeks
I'm sure the CMs will choose the right people for the job
Speaking of, it's just Robert Cartaino doing the CoGro stuff nowadays isn't it?

@Meta My finger slipped. I went to upvote your duplicate suggestion but was hovering over that comment. I then missed the unupvote window checking his account for signs of that -1 answer.

That comment you linked sums up that idea's death pretty well though
Interesting thought, I suppose

I have got an issue with chatroom info update.
Whenever I add some more tags to chat room info, it redirects me to Oops! Something Bad Happened! page.

@balpha, you around? ^

@TheLittleNaruto no repro here on MSE (just changed tags in Den), what chat room exactly?

Important: Read dos and don'ts here: androidera.github.io . Ma...

7:23 AM
What tag you try to add?

ionic-framework
and angularjs

It already got quite a few tags, maybe it's limited.

Yup, reproduced with too many tags.

@TheLittleNaruto Not sure why you want to add those tags on Java/Android room though...
The tag should show the best relation to the chat room. Otherwise, you'd have to add 500+ tags.

7:35 AM
@AndrewT. IONIC is a cross-platform mobile framework, so somehow related to Android.
And angularjs is used in it. So...

OK, the limit is 180 characters, including the spaces.
You can copy it to some text editor to count characters.

Ok fare enough! got it.. I can't add more tags..
Sob! Sob!
Still I feel like, the error, they're showing is wrong.
If there is a limit, it should simply show limit error.

@TheLittleNaruto weird, currently it's 92 characters in your room

@ShadowWizard did you try with more than 8 tags?

7:38 AM
So you should be able to add those two just fine... unless on SO the limit is 100.
(I checked here on MSE, different chat domain)
@AndrewT. it's not about amount of tags, but total length of the field.

Let's pray Mods for the resolution...

@TheLittleNaruto weird, chat tags limit on SO is not 100, see here - 190 characters and it passed. Sure you only tried to add tags? Maybe you also added to the description, which also limited and without a friendly message.

@TheLittleNaruto then we should add xamarin, phonegap, react node, and some others too. Just saying :P

Folks, any quick references on why bounties are not refunded if no answer comes up?
Re this comment
thank you! may I in addition ask if there is any reasoning behind this feature? I have currently got a bounty running and it doesn't seem like anyone is interested/able to answer it. That is of course fair enough, but I feel like I should at least get my reputation back :( The only reason I can see is that not getting it back would prevent me from starting another bounty on the same (possibly bad) question. But isn't that already taken into account by the fact that the bounties increase when set on the same question? (see second last bullet point above). — Numrok 20 mins ago

Q: bounty expired with no answers... wasted reputation?

paleozogtI put a bounty on a question (here) which has gotten no answers. The bounty has since expired. I sort of expected to get my reputation back since nobody 'won' it. Is this really how the system works?

In short: that's how things work. You pay in advance, like cash. No refunds.

@ShadowWizard Yeah, the OP seems to be asking for the rationale
particularly in the case of no answers at all

> Placing a bounty puts your question on a kind of pedestal for a week. It is more visible, and has a bigger reward, to attract people. This is what you actually "pay" for. It's normal to not recover it after the time.

the only losers on the internet are the ones that got knocked out first, so in a way rage quitters will never win

@Telkitty define rage quitters. Do they lose because of the rage or because they quit? And, if the later, isn't a worst lost to have patience when your opponent is confusing trying to be the best with trying to make other worse?

Tell that to Achilles.

@Telkitty and sharp teeth

user202362
@tchrist which Achilles, this one?

user202362
In Greek mythology, Achilles (/əˈkɪliːz/; Ancient Greek: Ἀχιλλεύς, Akhilleus, pronounced [akʰilːéu̯s]) was a Greek hero of the Trojan War and the central character and greatest warrior of Homer's Iliad. His mother was the nymph Thetis, and his father, Peleus, was the king of the Myrmidons. Achilles’ most notable feat during the Trojan War was the slaying of the Trojan hero Hector outside the gates of Troy. Although the death of Achilles is not presented in the Iliad, other sources concur that he was killed near the end of the Trojan War by Paris, who shot him in the heel with an arrow. Later legends...

user202362
2:01 PM
@ShadowWizard plenty of rage quitters have sharp teeth, but they don't have the persistence

Achilles was a rage quitter.
> Rage. Sing, O Muse, of the rage of Achilles, of Peleus’ son, murderous, man-killer, fated to die, sing of the rage that cost the Achaeans so many good men and sent so many vital, hearty souls down to the dreary House of Death.

user202362
@Derpy All I meant was that, on the internet, momentary winning is almost meaningless in the long run

@Telkitty Agreed. And you momentary don't still realize your pony nature.

user202362
And if you are out of a game, you don't even have a chance to win

@Derpy now that's a trick question. Can go both ways ;P

2:14 PM
@Telkitty next question would be... have you always at least a chance to win if you stay in the game?
Are winning and not losing the same or does a reality stand in the middle?

user202362
depends on how you define winning

@Telkitty Then what would your definition be?

user202362
to achieve your goal

Then you should always strive for you goal to stay clear and focus.

in a way, there really isn't any 2D printing - it's just that the depth is so small, it's negligible

Letterpress has depth.

user202362

user202362
@ShadowWizard in theory, yes

user202362
but in theory, people should be able to travel through wormholes too

stepping through a wormhole

@Telkitty not in theory. There is a whole project aiming at creating a 3D printer capable of printing its own components
actually, multiple projects

@ShadowWizard some of the community 3D printer projects require the core rails to be bought (as they define the dimensions of the printer, and hold it rigid) and have all other parts available from other community members

2:52 PM

@Derpy well, you'll still have to feed it with raw materials, it's not like it will be able to make them out of the air. Though maybe one day...

@ShadowWizard considering it needs the materials to build any item, not just printers... I am not sure it counts

@Derpy I would not be surprised that there are multiple projects investigating how to travel through wormholes too

user202362
Unless it's commercially available, it's just probing the possibility.

@Telkitty I will take this one as a claim that until space travel is end-user available, NASA is just probing the possibility to send someone on the moon :P

user202362
NASA wasn't?

user202362
so what was it doing?

And we're back to our regular schedule of programming questions on Meta

Is Close Vote Reason Logic When There Isn't a Majority really a duplicate? I don't see it answered in the linked post.

@Meta yeah; my estimate based on the number of people still reading inbox messages is that we'll get 1-3 off-topic questions a day; if we exceed that by much, back up it goes.

@SmokeDetector ignore- it has been reposted for few times and no action, so...

Strong language is a part of the site's culture... kind of hinted at in the currently featured post title, What we'd like to do about those gosh darn "identification requests" questions

@Meta I have a personal opinion for that site, but for that particular (ID request) issue, it's been the biggest problem on that site for years, so.. understandable...

Hm... Yes, branching out is a good idea... I'll try following Python questions on Computational Science, although there aren't many and usually someone more knowledgeable answers them.

A rush of unannounced moderator appointments in one day: jdero on Startups, Chuck on Robotics, fedorqui on Spanish, JohnP on Physical Fitness. In each case, nobody was removed, so the sites now have 4-5 pro tems.

user315433
I guess this is Grace Note coming back from (something), and dealing with a backlog of moderator issues.

@Meta - Thank you. They are still transitioning and doing other tasks, I expect an announcement for all the new moderators to be coming along from the CM team in due time. — JohnP ♦ 20 secs ago

user315433
Startups and Fitness had visible lapses in moderation, I don't know about the other two sites.

user315433
And JohnP sprang into action, closing OTC MASS BUILDERS i.e. Nitro/ mass fuel..

Q: why use co() in node js

rishabh chandelA few months ago I started a new, typical 8-4 job. Since I started, my boss has called me at usually once a week outside work hours to ask me what I did at work today and what I'll be doing in the next coming days.

He's feeling like having a discussion.

user315433
And "using co() in node.js" was his answer to the boss's question.

"1-3 off-topic questions a day" was an underestimate, I saw 6 in the last two hours. Not that I mind farming flags.

Well, I need them to get my 12th Marshal badge and thus become the ruler of the Galaxy.

This is how badges work, right?
