Not to discount the work itself, mind you. Managing people is important. But if you're gonna give yourself a fanciful name, you should at least get a pointed hat to go with it.

Speaking of front end, the fancy triangular shapey photographs on business.stackoverflow.com have hover text "home1.png" and "home2.png"

that means it's business time

You should set them to "you've uncovered the first in a set of clues, go to stackoverflow.com to look for the second clue. Wonderous plunder awaits, good luck adventurer!"

Eh. Voted to reopen - we'll see what the queue thinks.

I don't get it. How is LOC better than line? You need to push shift so it's the same number of keystrokes.

Well, most answers have more lines than they do lines of code.

The majority of my CV reviews on SO is Leave Open.

@hichris123 meh, then it can be reduced to a lower lined codeblock
What's really insane is code that I have to look thru and understand where it's split up into 10 files, each with 300 lines. 80 of the 300 lines are whitespace, 150 are whole-line comments. The remaining code is split up into cryptic functions which all call each other; each function is only a few lines of code.

@404 I see both. I'm probably guilty of using too broad on some questions that shouldn't be closed.

Like, d00d, just make one big function that's 150 lines long and has no comments. It's a lot easier to read.

Except for being written in idiot language, it seems perfectly testable.

It's a damn library, yet it's huge and sprawling and unreadable.

Libraries are supposed to hold functions, not untestable behemoths.

We don't need a utility function for incrementing a variable with 5 lines of javadoc, 3 of whitespace around it, and 3 extraneous of whitespace conventions in it.
@tchrist You shouldn't need to test libraries, they should be minimal.

@hichris123 Ended up with 3x Leave Close votes. stackoverflow.com/review/reopen/11835459 :/

oh well

I wonder if many questions are even reopened from the queue. Seems like most people just hit Leave Closed on 99% of them (although most probably should be kept closed).
@Shog9 Thanks, I guess? :P

I found the reopen queue very frustrating. Many tasks were edits by hopeless askers or protest reopen votes on old recommendation questions, but the few I tried to save with edits stalled out at 2 or 3 reopen votes.

Reopen queue for some 60-day period:

So not quite 0%... but looks like in the teens?

2:53 AM
yup
which was actually a marked improvement
most stuff just doesn't get seen
I guess I could be feeding more stuff in there

Didn't you try that a while back with old questions?

I've tried it repeatedly
I just keep forgetting to try it again

What's the relative proportion of reopen votes from the queue versus organically?

relative to what?
what's the ratio of queue-votes to non-queue-votes?

Er, relative to each other, I guess. What fraction of reopen votes are cast from the queue? (And then 1-p is organic.)
(I typed relative before I finished thinking.)

2:58 AM
@hichris123 there you go, 600 reopen tasks to play with.

@Shog9 Hmm, do I stay up and review or go to bed? :P

@JeffreyBosboom for the same 60 day period pictured above, 6407 votes from review out of 10520 votes overall.

user315433
In the monthly Meta rep league, Patrick Hofman is #1, while ##2-7 are employees.

@Shog9 Interesting. I wasn't expecting so many non-queue votes, though maybe that's because reviewers predominately Leave Closed.
@Shog9 I'm also curious how many questions had a unanimous Leave Closed decision but were reopened from outside the queue, but I don't know how I'd interpret the result, so you don't have to get it now.
My get feeling (including as a reopen reviewer) is that it's pretty hard to get a question reopened from the queue and most people don't click on closed questions, so it's hard to get organic votes too. But I'm not sure what data would quantify that feeling and what, if anything, we should do about it.

I think supper is a good answer here
gonna heat up some borscht

3:07 AM
I mean, with regard to pushing more old questions into reopen, are we (you) doing that because we're not reopening enough, or just because there's idle review capacity?

yes
my theory being, those two things are not unrelated

Seems reasonable. You can go eat, I'll go review.

Then one day I meet a man, he came to me and yellied, "Hard work good and hard work fine, but first take care of belly"

Oh cool. Shame they haven't got workshop integration working yet

Yeah, I think they’re working on that.

Finished my reopen reviews. Just one "edit and reopen", but it has four votes already, so it looks like it'll go through. I did see two salvageable R questions, but I don't know enough R to fix them (I skipped). There were a lot of old recommendation/comparison questions that could be narrowed down to today's standards, but editing would have invalidated all the existing answers, so I had to Leave Closed.

@rene true, average time for my flags is 2 months, and I have about 10 flags which still wait, more than 3 months. I kind of stopped even hoping a custom flag will get any attention, doing it out of pure habit. /cc @Pandya

@ShadowWizard I suggest we run MSE elections. You'll have my vote...

No need to hammer though

@Pandya not sure if that question should really be on Meta Ask Ubuntu. You could argue that the question is also interesting on MSE for users that want to know how other proposals started. The question is more about the process of site creation as it is about Ask Ubuntu.

Q: What to do about hundreds of the same basic question?

Bryan OakleyFor the umpteenth time someone asked the question "what does 'str object is not callable' mean?" with the tag [python]. This is a very common error for newbies, so it just gets asked over and over and over, each time in a slightly different context. A little spot checking shows that nearly every ...

Well then.

user315433
Imagine if error messages were more like "you put (n) after a string variable, which does not make sense in Python. Did you mean [n]?" rather than "'str' object is not callable".

5:03 PM
@404 that assumes that by the time the interpreter/compiler figures out the error, it has enough context to create such an error message; it also means you've need to have countless different error messages for what is probably caught as the same fundamentla problem.
"oh, you tried to call something that's not callable. Is is a string? ok, error message 1. Not a string. How about an array? ok, error message 2. Not an array either.. any kind of container? ok error message 3."

5:22 PM
@404 would probably be the case when there will be global peace, no more wars, no hunger, and little green aliens will live among us. :-D

user315433
@KutuluMike The context is all there: just looking at 'str' object is not callable and nothing else, we can guess what the newcomer to Python tried to do. It's have to be some option like python -novice file.py. And I don't think it's countless number: str, list, and dict cover most of such errors committed by beginners.

user315433
The message would be different for dict, though I'm not sure dict(2) is even a common error

Q: Job listing offering INR 7-30(USD 0.106- 0.45)

VinI came across a job listing on my homepage, which offers INR 7-30(USD 0.106- 0.45). Considering that the listing is for a senior dev role with desired experience of 10 years, and you can't even buy a decent cup of tea with INR 7 in India, I believe this to be a bug. Should raising the issue on ...
