inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I would've gone for some freehand if there already weren't outlined with the help of the SE chat UI. As you can see, the image is misaligned, and thus intrudes the realm of the next message. So, why does it happen? Is a fix coming or have we found a way to surprise people in other SE chatrooms?

@Shog9 I'm not sure increasing the time before auto-delete qualifications are met (in the case of recent voting activity) will really help anything, unless you're just trying to keep questions in a "bad" state longer before they're deleted, which I don't understand

hi @Shog9 I was hoping we could chat in SOCVR because that's the hotbed of controversy at the moment

I think asking users to delete "problematic" answers on bad questions is a nicer idea than downvoting them, but that doesn't take into account users' selfishness/desire for rep in the case of answers that've received upvotes within the past 6 months
or answerers who disagree that a question should be deleted

A: Proposed Change to Community Deletion Criteria

ChrisFI'm uncomfortable with the idea of a "good answer" to a "bad question". If the answer is good and useful it implies that the question is actually a good question too. It might be expressed badly or have suffered from some initial down-votes before it was knocked into shape, but ultimately it mus...

user213963
I would also point out that so mods have encouraged community down vote activism in the past, rather than accepting that some things with up votes on them should be deleted.

6:24 PM
@MichaelT I'd love to see a source for that

user213963
@ChrisF unfortunately that involves invoking the meta effect or chat room group down voting to get the question low enough score to get 20k rep users to down vote it... Which other meta questions are decrying. What is the least disruptive option to handle (almost)non-answers? — user289086 Aug 11 '14 at 10:24

user213963
@Shog9: try to post such an answer with fresh evaluation cycle. That is, starting from zero score, and see how far it goes. Try to get people 50-100 people to downvote a highly-upvoted wrong answer to compensate the site policy changes. Only a few will do it, especially within a short while, so they are rare. If the post starts from scratch, it might even be downvoted to oblivion in worst case, but I am almost certain it would not even exceed ten upvotes altogether, or perhaps even five. — lpapp Apr 22 '14 at 17:10

@TylerH That also doesn't take into account users who gave an answer but have not been active on SO for a long period of time

true. I didn't think of that. I'm sure there are other things it doesn't take into account as well

user213963
6:41 PM
The consistent message is: if something is wrong with the post (such as answering a poor question) down vote and continue on.

user213963
That several people did this should be a message to the author.

user213963
The first one would have been a "yep, off topic question now, cast a delete vote on the question"

user213963
(The op there has 20k rep)

I don't think the issue is with people downvoting a bad answer to a bad question, I think the issue was with getting a group of people together to do it
2

that ^^^^

user213963
6:44 PM
Saying "here is a tag with problem questions that need to be cleaned up - each acts in their own way.

@KevinBrown agreed

user213963
That people lack tools to clean up otherwise, and those who have the big tools refuse to accept a mandate to clean it up... Again, you use the tools you have.

@MichaelT it makes a difference if 'each' down voter turns out to come from the SOCVR

@MichaelT There's a difference between telling a group "you should downvote these" and passing a list of questions (which I've done in the past) and asking if a question should be deleted and letting people make up their mind

user213963
Half the down votes came from before the post edit.

6:48 PM
Also, SOCVR is considered to be a private group even though it's public to anyone. It's not public enough, and you have to admit that we tend to work as a group

user213963
Again, so? The mods have never come up with an alternate way to work with our limited tools than collected down votes from the meta effect.

user213963
It is also disappointing that the op of that meta post didn't act to delete vote the question after the first down vote.

user213963
@GeorgeStocker ... realizing that the other options are to get a meta effect, or a chat vigilante group to go cast down votes on it so it can be deleted. Those approaches seem to garner a rather "Stack Overflow is mean" result when people decry mob voting. I am under the impression that a simple this isn't even an answer to the question flag (or maybe custom one) would result in the cleanest, least disruptive approach to addressing the issue. I wouldn't mind knowing if I should flag the next non-answer or try to find 108 more down votes. — user289086 Aug 11 '14 at 17:37

@MichaelT It was taken as a personal attack (downvoting a highly voted answer), it's not actually clear that it was that they knew a delete vote was needed at the start

Whoa, whoa, whoa...
@MichaelT what are you insinuating?

user213963
6:56 PM
When people consider down votes to be personal attacks, there is a misunderstanding from the start.
