I think asking users to delete "problematic" answers on bad questions is a nicer idea than downvoting them, but that doesn't take into account users' selfishness/desire for rep in the case of answers that've received upvotes within the past 6 months

I would also point out that so mods have encouraged community down vote activism in the past, rather than accepting that some things with up votes on them should be deleted.

@ChrisF unfortunately that involves invoking the meta effect or chat room group down voting to get the question low enough score to get 20k rep users to down vote it... @Shog9: try to post such an answer with fresh evaluation cycle. That is, starting from zero score, and see how far it goes. Try to get people 50-100 people to downvote a highly-upvoted wrong answer to compensate the site policy changes. Only a few will do it, especially within a short while, so they are rare. If the post starts from scratch, it might even be downvoted to oblivion in worst case, but I am almost certain it would not even exceed ten upvotes altogether, or perhaps even five. — lpapp Apr 22 '14 at 17:10

The consistent message is: if something is wrong with the post (such as answering a poor question) down vote and continue on.

I don't think the issue is with people downvoting a bad answer to a bad question, I think the issue was with getting a group of people together to do it

@MichaelT it makes a difference if 'each' down voter turns out to come from the SOCVR

@MichaelT There's a difference between telling a group "you should downvote these" and passing a list of questions (which I've done in the past) and asking if a question should be deleted and letting people make up their mind

Also, SOCVR is considered to be a private group even though it's public to anyone. It's not public enough, and you have to admit that we tend to work as a group

Again, so? The mods have never come up with an alternate way to work with our limited tools than collected down votes from the meta effect.

@GeorgeStocker ... realizing that the other options are to get a meta effect, or a chat vigilante group to go cast down votes on it so it can be deleted. Those approaches seem to garner a rather "Stack Overflow is mean" result when people decry mob voting. I am under the impression that a simple this isn't even an answer to the question flag (or maybe custom one) would result in the cleanest, least disruptive approach to addressing the issue. I wouldn't mind knowing if I should flag the next non-answer or try to find 108 more down votes. — user289086 Aug 11 '14 at 17:37
