A: What HTML tags are allowed on Stack Exchange sites?

user2284570For those who don’t use ie, every tags are allowed except<iframe> <script> <input> <video> <audio>. Just use put xhtml in an ꜱᴠɢ image! The image above contains this code, as you can see there are html in it : <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" w...

No idea what this is, but it surely doesn't fit as answer on this faq.

@ShadowWizard : Why ? you an use xhtml inside an svg?

No idea what you talk about, and again: to test stuff use the sandbox don't hijack existing official faq!

@ShadowWizard : That if you want to really use the tags which are not on the whitelist you can still do it inside an svg file with the<foreignobject>.

umm... no. You just put this as image.

1:34 PM
@ShadowWizard : This is not for testing stuff, this is a well known workaround on many other sites and an important security point among web rendering engine designers. Stack Exchange for example don’t allow to use tables tags like<tbody> this answer provide an alternative on how to use it and have it’s place on this FAQ like this answer.
@ShadowWizard : And as you can see with the latest edit, this is no different from using html in the post directly.

Never mind. This will be deleted soon enough. If you think you found some security breech, you better contact the team directly (email, "contact us" in the footer etc) and not try and exploit it here.

Yes, but I don’t understand why ? about the downvotes and delete votes.

Because you are only using an image tag and think for some odd reason you are using other tags. You are not, so it's not relevant to this faq. I can also post screenshot of a frame and say "hey, I used iframe"!

@ShadowWizard : This is not a security breach. No web browser ever allowed using ꜱᴠɢ with an ɪᴍg tag with JavaScript, the security level is completely different than using an<iframe>this feature exist specifically for using tags which are not on whitelist. But as you can see the image contains html tags (this is no a screenshot).
An ꜱᴠɢ image doesn’t contains any binary data, but use xml which can contains html as well. Before closing please [look at this link](view-source:http://ytrezq.sdfeu.org/test.svg)!

Still, the only actual tag you are using in your Stack Exchange post is <img>
@user2284570 if you mean this as an easy way to create tables, proper place for such answer is here:
427
Q: Is there any markdown to create tables?

leoraIt seems like a lot of people try to display tables in SO questions but don't do a very good job. Is there any markdown syntax that supports creating a proper table?

and explain how to create tables in SVG, then anyone can create and show them using the <img> tag.
Whatever you do outside of Stack Exchange to create contents, isn't really relevant for "what tags are allowed" faq.

Are you expecting that to actually show something?
It doesn't show anything for me.

@tchrist because you are using Internet explorer ?

Safari chez Mac.

@tchrist Une vielle version de Safari alors ?

C’est possible. Laquelle?
Version 7.1.7 (9537.85.16.12). C’est trop vielle pour ce que tu veux faire ici?

1:58 PM
@tchrist Il faut utiliser un navigateur qui supporte ceci. Donc Oui c’est bcp trop vieux

Wait, why are we speaking French? :)

lol
fetching translation bot

@tchrist because you started speaking french so I replayed in french Safari chez Mac.

Mais il dit "Copyright 2003–2015" Apple.

@ShadowWizard [Powered by Yandex Translate] An old version of Safari then ?

I am surprised 2015 is too old.
Where do I get 2016 from?
Oh, how queerious.
So they keep updating 7.1 with auto-updates instead of updating you to version 9?

@tchrist Anyway the Safari version 7.1 is clearly not on that list For getting something working you need version 9.

I just use what they give me, although I can update at my leisure and pleasure should the occasion see fit.
I find it odd that there is an old Safari running on a new computer.

@ShadowWizard : Good point! If you load the answer with internet explorer you will see a completely different image with exactly the same file beeing served.
showing that’s not a screenshot.

> The only way to increase the Safari version is to update the Mac OS X version.
Ok, that's not acceptable.

@user2284570 doesn't matter. The only tag you are using is <img>

2:04 PM
I’m running 10.9.5, which is hardly ancient by any measure.

@tchrist tu peux tjs utiliser un autre navigateur comme Seamonkey ou Opera.

Mais bien sûr. Et je le fais mais pour autres choses que le SO.
I really need to re-install Opera.
I need to do testing with a variety of browsers, and I had left all my SO stuff on Safari for a variety of reasons.

2:19 PM
@ShadowWizard And what is the difference ? I could have used<iframe href="http://ytrezq.sdfeu.org/test.svg" width="999">instead of<img src="http://ytrezq.sdfeu.org/test.svg" width="999"> if it was allowed. The only difference would have been that the script inside the image would run (remember the flashing thing with random color order was also using an <img>tag). My point here is that thesrc=""attribute can also load a valid xhtml document and that this no different from using an<iframe>.

@user2284570 the difference is that <img> is allowed and <iframe> is not allowed, simple as that.

@tchrist You can still access it by clicking on this link
@ShadowWizard : So the answer should be removed because what I did should not be allowed ?
if this just because this is loaded as an image, it became nonsense.

@user2284570 no it should be removed because the question is "what tags are allowed?" and there is already answer saying that <img> tag is allowed. Pointless to have another answering just to prove images work.
No matter what you put as the image, it's still inside image tag.

2:35 PM
“In addition to random’s answer, if you still need tags which are not allowed, you can do it by using an ꜱᴠɢ inside an<img>tag. The disabled tags will be<iframe> <script> <input> <video>and<audio>.”
@ShadowWizard You didn’t get the purpose of my answer. That’s not the point of it .My answer start with :
My answer doesn’t say the img tag is allowed. It says that the img tag can load xhtml.

@user2284570 and it is not relevant in "what tags are allowed" faq question.
period.
You can start a new discussion on MSE with all of this.
It's like a security guard will ask you "Do you have a gun?" and you will answer "gun can be used to kill people".

@ShadowWizard As commenting is disabled, it would be nice to document the list of allowed protocols.
