I wonder if regex.DOTALL is even a thing in regex library. (If I remember correctly, it was originally using re)

user259867
The codeblock removing seems to be broken.

user259867
6:19 PM
Ah, flags like DOTALL work differently in regex module: they are scoped. This is probably why Smokey didn't remove some code blocks.

One normally uses (?s:blah) for a scoped /s flag. Pretty sure the regex library supports that.
You can also use (?s) to enable it.

user259867
Yes, I think I'll do that. I kind of wish the library was named in a google-able way...

haha

user259867
Searches for "Python regex" invariably turn up re.

This helps to find the library itself, but not questions/answers about it.

Is it part of the standard python distribution yet? Guido talked about having it replace re years ago.

user259867
No, it's not. Checked in 2.7 and 3.4

That's too bad. You really can't use re with Unicode.

user259867
Ugh, there is no bug after all. I was staring at this post and wondering why specific-diets.com triggered an alert, when it's in the code block. But the OP also has a direct link there, "this page"...

@bjb568 I don't think he meant the math question.

@UniformsForSale For some reason, random was a mod on meta.so back when it was a separate site. Don't know what the reason was.

Our sign-up experience is messed up in a variety of creative ways. That doesn't seem to be one of them if I understood the post right, but a bad experience's a bad experience.

@AnnaLear Maybe the non-email-verification step got the user confused. Not sure if it helps to warn upfront for that and landing on /tour seems the best place to go...

Stack Snippets got moved to the central SSL certificate?

does anybody else have the same issue?
0
A: After the move to Denver Stacksnippets.net is offline

cybermonkeyWas going to write this as a comment, but I thought I'd make it a full-blown answer instead... The issue still exists, but however it just seems to be a matter of the server certificate rather than the actual server availability itself: when loading the Snippet as a full-page frame: After ...

@cybermonkey Yup, it's not that it's offline it just has a new SSL certiifcate

@KevinBrown interesting, and by the sounds of it it hasn't been properly installed

The certificate is a wildcard for stackexchange.com, not the stacksnippets cert

why not have it on the Stack Exchange domain? surely something like 'snippets.stackexchange.com' would do.

8:41 PM
XSS or something
Most likely

what locale are you? in another chatroom a user is reporting that it's working for them

don't think they fully support SSL yet so ....

hm
not working in locale en.GG and en.GB, I know that much..

I'm en.US

I can tell you that stacksnippets.net is not on the HTTPS Everywhere list
And I don't appear to have SOUP installed on this computer

Just tried it with Edge and it worked.
@KevinBrown What browser are you using?

Chrome 44.0.2403.130

same as myself, could be a Chrome-specific issue then

I have the same error in Edge

> We render the Snippets on an external domain (stacksnippets.net) in order to ensure that the same-origin policy is not in effect and to keep the snippets from accessing your logged-in session or cookies. blog.stackexchange.com/2014/09/…

good idea in retrospect for security

Alright, I also can't run Stack Snippets in Edge
so I definitely don't have any plugins that are causing this

@rene (or someone else not hitting the stacksnippets issue), what's the thumbprint for your certificate on stacksnippets.net?

from stacksnippets.net: * If same-origin was possible, users could write code that caused other users to do things that they didn't want to on their Stack Exchange account. What kinds of things? Evil things. Things like logging a user out, or updating their profile, or even possibly posting questions or answers! *.

imagine if every time you visited a question, a snippet made your account ask some spam question, or gave a random upvote to a user's posts

that might be the issue. Nick forgot to put it in the van when they moved from NY to Denver....

Q: Stacksnippets has the incorrect SSL certificate :(

cybermonkeyAs discussed here, was prompted to post it as a brand new question, so here it is :-). Earlier today there was an issue with Stack Snippets, caused by the move to Denver. That issue was fixed, but however created/revealed a brand new issue; the Stack Snippets' domain has the incorrect SSL certif...

@cybermonkey your screenshot of the console contradicts your "I don't access Stack Overflow/Stack Exchange over HTTPS" statement

@KevinBrown I don't, look at the edit to the post

@cybermonkey Look at your console picture, it specifically says you are loading meta over HTTPS
You may not normally be doing it, but you were in that case

interesting, now it's not loading over HTTPS
I found it via the Hot Network Posts, maybe clicking on a question through this automatically makes it HTTPS
