When in doubt about what's best for your site/community, asking them tends to give you some good ideas. Time and time again the moderators of the Japanese site know what to say better than I do, and all I need to do is ask to receive.

MathOverflow gave me a chance to verify that changing the reputation payout of questions had very little effect compared to removing the penalty for downvoting them:

I've looked at some related questions on Stack Overflow, Super User and Server Fault. On those sites, I found no evidence that voting patterns changed as a result of the reputation payout. Given the unique history of this site, it's interesting to see if we can see something different here. I'm t...
