@Frank I can't understand how a person's brain could even [not] work that way.
I wonder what their world is like
I love the dude who just gets into his car and pulls it right out.
Omg and it keeps getting worse
@Frank youtube.com/watch?v=Q_S61MyZtkA&feature=youtu.be&t=197 lol @ traffic lights at 3:17 (yes, you got me sucked into car compilation videos)

8:36 PM
@Frank oof, and I thought I was bad at parking

@JasonC hahaha! that tiny car with the triaxle trailor...

@Frank Haha I know!

@AlexisKing damn, nuked my comment :D

@hichris123 yeah, it's your graph

@nicael lol, I didn't actually flag it

8:47 PM
@AlexisKing new house

I'm a little unsure if we should really be trusting @bjb568 with home ownership.

:p

@AlexisKing Sorry. :(
@bjb568 I'm confused how my graph made jQuery slow, but...

9:11 PM
ahahaha! The first one is awesome... youtube.com/watch?v=dxMts3sfdr4

@hichris123 other way around

@bjb568 Wait, vanilla JS made my graph slow? That makes sense!
@AlexisKing How would you do that?

@hichris123 close enough
LOL

@Haney Managers. I wonder who was the cause of the Denver office "issues", hmm?

ben is uǝq backwardsAccording to Stack Exchange's trademark guidance: The website domain name is always written stackoverflow.com (no CamelCase, single word capitalization rules apply). Huh, interesting. Most places have mandatory code reviews.
Good presentation other than the trademark issues. ;)

Thank you!
I should tidy up the branding stuff... Will get to it this week. Thanks for pointing it out.

:P it's not super important.
I find it interesting that you all blog quite a bit & give presentations; tell the world about what you do. A lot different from other companies.

@bummi yup

due to my poor english, his other answer sounds for me like LQ but answer?

I think? I'm not sure either.

reassuring :) , the name/website does not expect to much positives, but I saw worse names with good content

@hichris123 wot

@bjb568 Isn't that what you said?

No

9:57 PM
Well, isn't it true?

Absolutely not.

Why?

Since when does jQuery even claim to attempt to be fast or optimized at all?
Are you just trolling me or what?

Since when did I claim it did?
I'm claiming that vanilla JS is making my graph slow.
And that it is -- if you removed vanilla JS, the graph would be fast, albeit slightly less than functional.

Any code can be made faster, as long as it doesn't have to work.
I think @bjb568 would benefit from a thorough reading of c2.com/cgi/wiki?OptimizeLater.

10:11 PM
@hichris123 I don't think you're effectively conveying information.
Or trying to.

user259867
Speaking of JS: what would be a quick practical way to add a keyboard shortcut for "downvote the currently open question?" I'm tired of clicking.

@Woodface ... use the built-in keyboard shortcuts?

user259867
All the key up/down events are confusing...

10:13 PM
@Doorknob I agree with that, I'm not making unreadable code for the sake of performance, nor did I ever say it's a good idea.

@bjb568 Hrm, well let's make this simple then: jQuery is slow. Vanilla JS is slow. The best code is no code at all.

user259867
@Doorknob Well, I wanted one click, but since that would involve typing something else, I guess vd will work.

peace ... please :{

10:16 PM
@JasonC the answer in howtogeek.com is referring this question, that's what I found interesting

@bummi wait wait wait really? Ahahaha.

@hichris123 So code the minimal amount for it to be functional. Fine. What's your point?

@bjb568 That everything is slow. It's just a matter of how slow.

@hichris123 would be interesting to know is superuser and name are enough to attribute the owner?

@hichris123 That makes no sense. "Everything is slow"… relative to something that is very fast, of course, that's by definition. "It's just a matter of how slow"… that is not a logical sentence.

10:21 PM
@bjb568 "relative to something that is very fast" or relative to no time.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

Everything is slow.
Start off with that.

at least the are linking somewhere to the thread

@bjb568 Is the code you're using now noticeably too slow?

@hichris123 Relative to what?
@JasonC What code? DD?

10:23 PM
@bjb568 Whatever you're talking about.

@bjb568 0.0 seconds.

@JasonC Nothing specific.
@hichris123 So?

Doing something is slower than doing nothing.

Obviously, I get that.

@bjb568 @hichris123 Then it's perfectly fine code. Next.

10:25 PM
@bjb568 Therefore, if you want to do something, it's going to be slower than you want it to be.

@hichris123 Let's see if you can find assumptions that led to that conclusion. I'll just sit here and watch.

@bjb568 Assumption 1: you want what you're doing to be as fast as possible.

Ok.

Assumption 2: What you're doing by definition takes time, which is therefore not as fast as possible.

Shakey, but fine.

10:27 PM
Assumption 3: You will never be truly satisfied with how quickly it happens.

Nope.

Or would you?
I don't know.

Hint:
1 min ago, by bjb568
Nope.

It seems that Assumption 1 would propel you to optimize as much as possible, and Assumption 2 states that that's never possible.

I want to optimize as much as possible, but I also want other things as much as possible or as little as possible. So I make a tradeoff.
Like with literally everything in life.

10:31 PM
Exactly.
Which is where jQuery comes into play.
Ease of use, or speed?

I say you lose both with jQuery.

There's quite a few things that are much less verbose with jQuery.

Sometimes verbosity is easier to use.

For programmers that Google solutions? Hardly.
Now, that's not to say it's always the right choice.

@hichris123 Who are you referring to here?

user259867
10:46 PM
Woodworking made it to the public beta.

yay

Maybe I need to ping @woodface
@woodface may just be on another tab
Pinging @woodface shouldn't annoy him at all, it's just a pleasant reminder for @woodface that kitteh has a question for @woodface so @woodface should come answer the question for @woodface
Or maybe he's gone.

Oh @uni is here, maybe he can answer by usability question!
@Unihedro poof
