Q: ASP.NET Site Maps

Zack PetersonHas anyone got experience creating SQL-based ASP.NET site-map providers? I've got the default XML web.sitemap file working properly with my Menu and SiteMapPath controls, but I'll need a way for the users of my site to create and modify pages dynamically. I need to tie page viewing permission...

if my guess are right, it could trigger the timelord hat
report here please
@DroidDev, could you do that ^?

2:21 PM
@SPArchaeologist nope, but I did get "Fascinating" on Server Fault just by upvoting
congrats for all the secret hats you got!!
@DroidDev wow, Pony spell is super cool!!! :D

seems the last golden tick secret hat was foud
hoped they would hide them better

can't hide them from masters

@ShadowWizard actually is more "not worthy much effort hiding if they are gone in 3 weeks"
Wondering.
A stack app could replicate the winterbash working?

4:01 PM
@SPArchaeologist what do you mean? Earning the iOS/android hats by just using the API? Don't think so

no. Replicating an all year long bash by developing an app

@SPArchaeologist well, you can display whatever you want in the app, but only those using it will see. You can't change how Stack Exchange sites themselves look...

@ShadowWizard I was asking myself what the limit of an app are

@SPArchaeologist depends on the device OS, but as far as design is concerned there's almost no limit, see all the super complicated games with ultra graphics... in the end of the day, they're just another app
So I'd say it's only matter of time and efforts being put to develop the app

@ShadowWizard Emmmh... nope. I didn't mean an Android/IPhone/Whatever app. I mean something that integrate with the site at the level the current bash site does.

4:15 PM
@SPArchaeologist not really sure what you mean.... :(
The bash site got the same backend as the other sites, e.g. database

Winter Bash is currently defined as an "app" - it even promps you with "An app needs to acces bla bla bla". The question is: does "apps" that can modify the stack exchange site exist? where? Are there other "apps" like winterbash? Or the level of integration it has is only possible because SE itself developed it?
Could I develop something that actually adds a button on SE? How?
back in 2012 devs comment gave the impression the bash site was managed by an external company paid from SE.

@SPArchaeologist oh, no..... it's internal Stack Exchange stuff. It's used for things that some people don't really like and want to opt out from.

so the only way for one to replicate that would be have a service hosted somewhere and then use greasemonkey
I was expecting that "apps" as from SE APPS site where actually additional scripts hosted on SE itself one can "subscribe to"

There's always a chance I'm wrong... maybe ask in the Tavern to hear more opinions :)

4:41 PM
as expected it can't
anyway, this is the first year Winter Bash does not reference unicorns in any way
bleagh
Anyway see you tomorrow
I have to go
bye
