[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: ANYBODY CAN CHECK MY CODE. HELP ME NOT GET HACKED? THANKS by Love_PHP on codereview.stackexchange.com

This was probably the first CR question picked up by SD. :D

@Jamal Can you please revert my edit? I accidentially removed a whole file from the question.

@ProgramFOX Done

@Jamal I... don't see anything that changed.

6:46 PM
Damn, there was an error. I'll try again.

@Jamal If it still gives an error, I can also add the file again.

I'm still getting errors for some reason. Oh well. It's a crappy question anyway.

oh, it's already removed by the author

7:06 PM
@ProgramFOX story of my life ...

user259867
SE should come up with a better way to get rid of old closed unanswered questions... I just came across a question where the totality of what's written is "How to create a media player for Android?"... closed and kept around since 2011, because it got one. stupid. upvote.

user259867
The policy is too... discrete in this regard. Score = 0 => deletion after 9 days. Score =1 => kept forever. There should be a sliding scale.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii To what end? Some 1 score answers are good
especially on less popular tags

user259867
I'm talking about unanswered questions. No answer whatsoever. (Not surprisingly, given the question.)

Oh. I misunderstood your scenario

7:14 PM
Oops

Also good morning to you....

7:31 PM
Guys! We need to assemble a team to infiltrate Pixar before the 2017!

7:42 PM
Hi. Question about the Closevotes chat room. Is its existence an admission that the close review queue on Stack Overflow doesn't work well? Or is its purpose different?

@Boann No it is not.

@Boann It is not
dang. Rene for the win

It's not which?

@Boann, might want to read our faq

It is not an admission that the review queue doesn't work

7:46 PM
@Boann It's purpose is to make the life for the reviewers who do like to handle them a little bit nicer

He's talking about bjb's room. Same answers should apply though

@Andy Oh, missed that

So I don't understand the difference in purpose.

@Boann The queue does work, it is just the amount of questions on a daily basis that get close votes that make the queue grow out of control
Same goes for moderator flags

And just for reference, @rene is talking about Stack Overflow's CV queue

7:50 PM
I find that voting to close things on SO works incredibly badly because most of the time the votes just get deleted. Should I never use that feature, and just post links in that chatroom instead?

@Boann That room exist to get the attention on the real crap questions that otherwise would never get enough votes to get closed when left in the queue

@rene Aren't there about a hundred thousand of those?

@Boann You might check if you can filter on a tag like we do here
@Boann Yep, but there more than enough users with the privileges to vote. They should use that privilege.

Today there have been 1,883 reviews. If they all focused on the same tags, those tags would be empty in no time. Part of the problem is that everyone works on their own review items, so it takes longer to get 5 people to sign off on it before the close votes expire.

If they did the problem would be much smaller

7:54 PM
We could have [java] empty today if every person who reviewed today did java.

@gunr2171 I'd never thought of that before, but you're right, it's another reason why the automatic vote deletion is totally absurd.

@gunr2171 I doubt that....

@Boann That is what we try to do in our chat room
@rene It's a guesstimation at best

@rene I thought what we saw was what was there. The fuzzing is gone according to this - assuming I'm reading it right

@gunr2171 Wait, which chat room? Is 766 for specific tags of questions?

7:56 PM

 SO Close Vote Reviewers

This room is for support and discussion about reviewing and co...

@Andy No, that is not completely true
Not all questions with CV's are let in the queue

@gunr2171 Okay, then I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of 766. It seems to just be a handy queue-jumping system.

@Andy It is filtered such that around 10K of questions are in the CVQ

I can't comment on 766. @Sam brought this conversation to our attention and we wanted to weigh in our input.

And that isn't because votes age away, @rene?

in SO Close Vote Reviewers on Stack Overflow Chat, Jul 23 at 18:59, by Shog9
@rene FWIW, that number reflects those fixes I mentioned a while back. We're no longer holding things in review just because someone said they shouldn't be closed. ;-P

Interesting. Thanks.

@Boann On low traffic tags that have no chatroom that are open for cv-pls it is handy to have such an room.
the php room does accept cv-pls but c# and c++ doesn't if I recall correctly
So if something needs to be closed fast a chatroom is your only hope
And still: every user should check/evaluate the question before taking any action.

To quote our faq/rene:
> We don't want to become a close vote posse. Every user should handle the review based on their own opinion/knowledge, choosing leave open, close, edit or skip when appropiate. Concentrating attention on a question in the context of whether or not to close a question, severely biases attention toward closing the question.

It is not the purpose of the rooms to organize voting-rings / bashing of users etc...
@gunr2171 Not only my text but also that of Andrew

SF is having an election

8:09 PM
@Braiam Oh, let me check...
Need 200 more rep before I can nominate myself
And, despite being a back-end dev I have nothing with servers...

user259867
How much rep is required to vote in election? Let's organize a voting ring. Whom do we support there?

Evan Carroll

oy @gunr2171. Welcome!!

Why not simply hire him @Shog9?

user259867
Argh, 150 rep required to vote in elections... off to edit 25 posts... or not.

8:21 PM
@Rafflesiaarnoldii you did have an account before the election started?

user259867
I did not... is that a requirement? Then no edits for you, SF...

sf?

Server Fault

user259867
We are talking about rigging SF moderator elections, @Frank. Want to run?

SO, SF, SU, AU...

8:24 PM
How about we just get bluefeet elected over there?

I wonder if any of the acronyms complete STFU?

SOFU was close

yep

No problem, hopefully that reason is adequate

8:27 PM
Yes

@Rafflesiaarnoldii AAHHH! runs
far away

@Rafflesiaarnoldii I don't think so but voting in an election feels weird if I only just completed the tour...

user259867
@rene It requires 150 rep, so the tour would not suffice.

When GL has elections...

8:31 PM
@Rafflesiaarnoldii Le me try to answer a bounty question

@Bart Are you implying he can be bought? Shame on you!

See it as a reward for all the valuable contributions he has supplied you with over the years @Shog9. And who else to make the perfect Jeff replacement?

@TGMCians already voted on that one in august

8:36 PM
tl;dr: cv-pls

Yes ^^^

Oh, that's where all these close vote requests are coming from...

and now..time to sleep
thanks guys..
night!

@Rafflesiaarnoldii SF is depressing, so much I don't know....
@TGMCians sleep well

user259867
@rene I sometimes use the query Questions with a very short title to find questions with totally nondescript titles, and edit. Requires some understanding of what the question is, but a lot less than answering it would require. 12 suggested edits => can downvote, 25 => can vote for a moderator.

8:49 PM

[ SmokeDetector ] URL in title: Would a redirect from “/” to “mydomain.com” delist a site? by WPMonkey on webmasters.stackexchange.com

So just wondering, how can SmokeDetector talk in chat? That user (which I know is a puppet) has 1 rep, and you need 20 to chat. How is this?

@gunr2171 chat.meta.stackexchange.com/rooms/info/89/… - it's in the explicit write list.
> Even when this room is read-only or their reputation is too low, these users will be able to talk in this room.

Ah, thank you

[ SmokeDetector ] URL in title: Would a redirect from “/” to “mydomain.com” (to add the www) delist a site? by WPMonkey on webmasters.stackexchange.com

@SmokeDetector really, someone should change that title

@SmokeDetector false

@hichris123 Registered as false positive and added title to Bayesian doctype 'good'.

user259867
I doubt that Bayesian really helps with such small and non-representative amount of feedback that the bot gets in the Tavern. If it could feed from the SE database...

@Rafflesiaarnoldii That's what my bot does. It uses the top 200 question titles from every site.

user259867
10:33 PM
Top 200 posted every day, or all-time? All-time leaders are probably outliers of some sort.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii All time.

user259867
The most-upvoted question on Math has the title "Can I use my powers for good?". Not a good example of titles that regular on-topic questions have.

Sorry, top 400.

user259867
The titles of questions ranked 101-500 may be more representative than the top 400. (Likely so.)

@Rafflesiaarnoldii To give you an idea of the titles we're talking about, here's the list: data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/210600/….

10:36 PM

user259867
There we go, "How to deal with sexual advances from students"

All I'm looking for is questions that aren't spam. My bot isn't designed to look for LQ questions.

user259867
Can the bot see the reputation of question asker? All spammers I saw so far had 1 rep.

.... uh...

Sam
Currently, only Pham can see those stats (from what I know).

10:40 PM
Maybe?

I just mod-deleted an answer, and immediately got +15 in the topbar. I should do this more often.

Sam
SO chat is coming up it's 20 millionth message...
(~19,999,700 atm)

user259867
@Undo I don't understand the connection.

11:00 PM
@Rafflesiaarnoldii My guess: Random Number God.
