and other than that it was ambiguous as hell and also a likely duplicate

what's that score?

his reputation score is 4289
3 gold badges
32 silver badges
65 bronze badges

it's weird he doesn't care about his quality... either that, or he didn't notice, which would be even weirder

agreed

8:06 AM
Should rep change from downvotes not be reverted when a question is deleted?

yes

> Windows is not responding:
> * Page is not responding - Chrome
time to launch a kickstarter for a new PC

@JanDvorak so you want to penalize downvotes even more? no thanks

@lostsock why not? Deleted questions = bad
undeleted crappy questions are even worse, I know

oh, so you mean the downvotes that the questioner received

8:17 AM
I see that @uni is going to build a bot to detect when Jan falls off the shelf...amusing

@lostsock yep

@Jan, is spam canary open source?

31
A: SPAM deluge over at WebApps (and pretty much all over SE)

Jan Dvorakaug 19 - tex.se is under attack. Yes, this is a call to arms. Keep flagging the spam posts while you can, anywhere they go. As this seems much heavier than the initial attack, I will try to notify the tex mods as well. I have written a userscript for the network-wide real-time feed - just copy/p...

i still disagree with that

@lostsock why?

8:18 AM
^@uni Use Jan's userscript when he falls of the shelf
and please name your bot Dodo-Detection :)

deleted questions count towards question ban, and if for some reason it isn't enough to stop majority of bad questions by same users , then it'd be a job for banning earlier alogorithm, not reputation disincentive

What were the two bots doing btw?
!!/alive?

@InfiniteRecursion not at all

@InfiniteRecursion nothing sleeping

bots are dead, I fail to announce to have gone to sleep - spam has a free range

8:23 AM
@InfiniteRecursion don't look at me, I think it was @undo who programmed them to sleep 23 hours a day

:D

Hmm, that is disappointing.
Atleast Zephyr is awake :)
@lostsock: how do you find spam when Jan sleeps? Userscript or manual monitoring of the realtimetab?

spam sense

@lostsock When did you wake up today?

spam thirty

8:32 AM
(CEST, please)

bets @lostsock won't answer that

@JanDvorak cool script, only saw it just now :)

should I prepare a canned message "I've fell asleep, someone please run [link]"?

nvm its my fault

have you hit my breakpoint?
be sure to check "enable notifications"

8:36 AM
@Jan, some users don't reveal info about themselves, no good mornings, good nights, no reference to our timezones etc....@lostsock and I fall in that category. That's why lostsock said he woke up at spam thirty

@JanDvorak Realized, hence it's my fault :)

(spoiler warning for Guardians of the Galaxy)
@Unihedron you just specify a greasemonkey header (name, where the script should run) and then javascript that then runs over the page

cool, what's javascript?

8:40 AM
:O

JavaScript (JS; English pronunciation: /'dʒɑvəˌskrɪpt/) is a dynamic computer programming language, and increasingly considered an "assembly" language (a compiler target) or "the x86 of the web" according to its creator and others. It is most commonly used as part of web browsers, whose implementations allow client-side scripts to interact with the user, control the browser, communicate asynchronously, and alter the document content that is displayed. It is also being used in server-side network programming (with Node.js), game development and the creation of desktop and mobile applications...

@TGMCians You like making fun of c#, don't you? ;)

Uni are you allright?

I was trolling, but does that mean I write code that automatically runs once when the page starts up, so I can register event handlers or something equivalent like using the console?

@rene no

8:41 AM
@TGMCians Oh, OK

:)
it depends on my mood :)

@Unihedron yes
read my script source code

It's too long to read, and the "TODO" comments are confusing.

@Unihedron well... except for the "using the console" part

gotcha

8:44 AM
@Unihedron in L26:L49 I set up a websocket connection
which is just a single constructor call followed by three function definitions
@Unihedron I'd like to have a code review from you; how readable is my code?

It's great! Love the slopes

I always sort my declarations by length

me too :)

brb

Kk

8:54 AM
@uni, bots have a lot of constraints in terms of having the infrastructure to give them good uptime and enough learning. I think you can help more with userscript as compared to writing another bot....it's entirely a suggestion as a friend...feel free to ignore it :)

@InfiniteRecursion Gotcha :)

9:08 AM
What is the number that shows under "ignore this user" in out chat profiles? For me it's 5 and it's 4 for Jan, 8 for rene...

5 for you, 4 for Jan, 8 for rene as well
Hover over it, it's "all time rooms" joined

i have 9, i win

where where ?

@lostsock I have 11, I win! :D

9:10 AM
8 :/

Thanks @uni, am using SE on my phone, so couldn't hover :D

starts creating rooms

@InfiniteRecursion lol :D

am on 5 only.

There's a game called Stack Overload on android.

9:12 AM
I thought it may be the number of users who are ignoring us @uni

@InfiniteRecursion that won't show to other users

Does it show it to the user who is ignored @sil?

nopes.
its like blocking some user on whats app or on cell Phone. we just dont get his/her notifications

:)
@uni you got your string tag ?

9:15 AM
@SilentKiller Nah, tag scores update 08:00 Stack Overflow time :)

tie the string on your finger for better memory @uni, once you get it

@inf: Ay ay!

aye aye captain. :D

Did you try Jan's userscript @uni?

Yes, it runs very well!

9:20 AM
Good to know :)
Now we have two saviors

I'd like to reduce the amount of false positives, though

You can sleep in peace now @Jan, @uni is watching the skies
!!/alive?

no, still asleep

(just tried it in Charcoal HQ, worked fine there)
!!/alive?
Hmm...

9:27 AM
good to know that @ProgramFox

Perhaps it's dead here...

I rebooted SmokeDetector, just to be sure.
!!/alive?

@ProgramFOX You doubt me?

@InfiniteRecursion ^

9:30 AM
!!/alive?

@InfiniteRecursion Yup

We never doubt you Smokey
@ProgramFox: Could Smokey be missing stuff while it's processing a post? Since the bayesian thing is added, processing time must have increased. So, maybe the input for Smokey comes in faster than it processes them, and a buffering or queueing of the inputs could help

Sam
Morning.

@InfiniteRecursion No idea, we'll need to have some spam posted to check that. But Smokey handles spam in a different thread, so I don't know whether a queue would help.
@Sam Morning!

9:37 AM
We had some spam missed some time ago, you can see them if you scroll a bit up @ProgramFox, Smokey missed those spam

@InfiniteRecursion Because there were no 'bad words' in the title.

@Unihedron is that not programming-related?

Ok, got it now @ProgramFox :)

@JanDvorak it's about how to deploy gift cards

/me wants gift cards

9:40 AM
closed
g2g, bye

Sam
Cya

Sleepy owl

Bye bye!

Bye Jan

@Uni (Just an update on Pham's development.) After a few hours of research on statistical analysis, machine learning, blah blah blah; I've come to the conclusion that any "analysis" command is going to be either: too inaccurate, too complex or too expensive. So, I'm gonna drop the whole with that command and just continue on the whitelist scoring system instead.

9:42 AM
@Sam xD

@Sam I like the "too complex" and "too expensive" options

Sam
lol

Go dodo, take a break :)

I should change my avatar...

another owl pls ;)

9:45 AM
what about a winterbash owl peeking through a badly drawn telescope?

Just because I call you dodo?

I'm not a fan of you having called me that.

Don't listen to what random ducks say on the internet.
and SPArcheologist calls you a dodo too, it isn't just me.

I'm not a fan of either of you calling me that

Jan whats your first choice for new avatar ?

9:49 AM
g2g, sorry
::poof::

Boobies and ducks and chicks don't mind, why do dodos mind? :/

@uni: are you guarding the skies? Jan is gone

@InfiniteRecursion There are no spam, only false-positives yet...

Good to know you are watching
phew

9:58 AM
I have the spam helper running as well..

:)

Nice @rene

@rene need 1 cv

I won't call you that anymore @Jan, don't change your avatar

@SilentKiller that seems doable.. tnx...

10:01 AM
@rene welcome. :)

EEEEEK! goto don't do that....please....don't...really...don't... — rene 14 secs ago

10:19 AM
@Unihedron No, too broad (because you would have to explain for every single VCS how pre-commit hooks work) or Unclear because extra details are needed to answer it. The two answers are just a guess in the right direction.

thanks for clarification!

@Unihedron gone

@Unihedron gone

@SilentKiller :) !

10:27 AM
!!/alive?

@ProgramFOX ... did I miss something?

Hmm... in Charcoal HQ, it is not alive and I also cannot reboot there.
And rebooting here is not possible, because the chat IDs are not the same here...
!!/reboot
Indeed, nothing happened.

That piece of Spam had a title with bad keywords and Smokey was alive and missed it. Add to to-do debug list please

10:43 AM
status-closed

:)

@uni my notifications like comments or pings not showing is it happening with you too ?

Oooh gold badge!

@Mysticial good chance you'll get the number back when the bug is fixed, so if you're into hoarding it, do not click the drawer! ;-) — Shadow Wizard 13 hours ago
i clicked many times.. :-/

@Unihedron Completed at least 1,000 review tasks. This badge is awarded once per review type.

Yes, I want a gold tag badge!

10:58 AM
you received recently. :)
yup

@InfiniteRecursion No, there were no bad keywords in the title.

yeah
flag it ^^

Spam at -5

thanks

11:38 AM
POB still there

I can't vote there
I can flag it only

same here.

same for Uni also

I have to sit out this infernal rain, no more work today until it stops :(

@Frank morning

Sam
11:40 AM
@Frank morning

@ProgramFox: The titles had "skin care" and "weight loss", these look like bad keywords for Spam, please consider adding them as bad keywords for Smokey

^^^

@SilentKiller Yeah, I only got in 1 1/2 hrs of work, and it begins to rain!
@everyone morning!

Jan's script tagged the question I just posted as potential spam. ._.

11:41 AM
o/

Morning!
\o

@InfiniteRecursion Will add them when I make !!/reboot available here. I will disable 'weight loss' for fitness.SE though.

I also used up the five tag spots so there cannot be [status-bydesign] added. :D

Jan did say that he would like to reduce the number of false positives, you can try to help him in that @uni :)

11:46 AM
I have no clue how his script works though. I think the links are a problem.

Perhaps text body with a trailing link. Have heard him mention it innumerable times in the tavern, haven't seen his script code though.
Sep 3 at 18:15, by Jan Dvorak
If it's got a trailing link, multiple paragraphs of words with no periods, it's probably worth flagging.

Mercy! There be five periods in my post!

Sep 2 at 14:25, by Jan Dvorak
@Undo trailing URLs
The trailing url was the red flag in your post. Next time notice the structure of a true spam, they have lots of periods and a trailing url @uni.

Thanks for the explain!

Code is a lot like poetry in that aspect @uni, it reflects ones style and their way of thinking. Since you talk to Jan in the tavern, you will find it easier to understand his code. Also, he has asked you for a code review too :)

11:59 AM
Yes... I should read through the code :)

Q: Re-enable adverts?

SurfbutlerStrange question I know, but occasionally I connect to Stackoverflow without logging in, and I see the adverts, and (gosh) some of them are actually quite interesting! Is there any way I can choose whether to see them or not while I'm logged in? Some thoughts on the feature: When the user gets ...
