1:06 AM
Dammit... it happened again...
Mr. Atwood is so getting this

1:45 AM
@YiJiang Were the other two members whose identities you assumed from Singapore as well?

@TimStone Possible, but they don't identify themselves

@TheUnhandledException I just saw The Social Network by the way, very interesting stuff.
@YiJiang I reminisced about this for a moment, heh.

2:03 AM
@YiJiang Hey, trusktr! Did he ever get his account merged?
He did!
But, uh, why were you complaining about it, @YiJiang?

@PopularDemand Because it indicate some sort of serious problem with SO's account system
I just went around to that guy's account, and got this:

Oh, that user. I thought you meant the OP, who was the subject of an unrelated issue yesterday.

@PopularDemand Eh... what? The problem is that old one, account mixup, remember?

That's really odd, I've never heard of someone getting logged in as someone else before.
(Unless your SO username is "william.")

@PopularDemand It's not the first time I've seen an Internet service got confused like that
@PopularDemand It's not

2:09 AM
Quickly, blame!

/blame @JeffAtwood for not fixing account mixup problem and marking my problem as [status-complete]

there was an issue where stackexchange.com (the root domains) was actually issuing incorrect login tickets
that actually did get fixed
what you're showing, we can't repro

@JeffAtwood Might not be the same problem

I agree, it's probably not the same problem -- but if we can't reproduce it, it can't get fixed.
give me the steps to reproduce this and I'll gladly fix it
other than "be you"

What's worse is if any of those users can become you, @YiJiang :P

2:11 AM
my gut feeling is it's some kind of caching bug

@JeffAtwood I can't, not even if I want to. The problem isn't serious because it's hard to reproduce, if not I'll be whining a lot longer

eg, you are not ACTUALLY that user, it's just something has decided to show you that page from its cache
there's no way you could be that user unless you hold his cookie

@JeffAtwood Hmmm... could also be a problem on the ISP level, but I can't imagine how that would happen

you're also using a beta browser, which we don't support

@JeffAtwood No I'm not, that's Firefox 3.6.10

2:12 AM
oh, my mistake -- looked like FF 4 beta

The Strata 40 theme is designed to look like Firefox 4
I've actually tried post comments and upvote comments when the page shows me as that user - neither worked

do you share an IP with that user?
his IP is in the screenshot

@YiJiang beta-ish theme... UNSUPPORTED!
3

allo

olla

2:15 AM
@rchern Ahoy hoy.

'Ello, welcome back to the <del>dark</del> gray side.

@JeffAtwood Close, since both are in Singapore, but no: 220.255.7.217

that guy comes in on a TON of IPs all in the 220.255.7.* range
like nearly 100 of them

ouch

@JeffAtwood Singtel, the ISP. Wikipedia has a special warning for Singtel users because their IP address keeps switching around

2:18 AM
yeah this is probably related to that
but rest assured, unless you have his cookie there's no way you can "be" this user
somehow I think you're getting served a cached page he's already seen

@YiJiang Singapore: unsupported!

ah, so if you assume his IP..
generally we don't cache on our end for logged-in users though

@PopularDemand Those South East Asian ISPs are tricky..

that's why I think this problem is upstream either HAProxy or higher

Actually, that's not true, I had a pretty tame experience with PCCW.

2:25 AM
@YiJiang, i now have starring and quoting working with shift+enter.
what's next? ha.

@JeffAtwood, apropos of nothing, thanks. (Because I don't think I've ever said it before, at least directly to you.)

hehe

@rchern Is there anything you won't do with Greasemonkey?

hahahaha

@PopularDemand Cure cancer, world peace, get to the moon...

2:34 AM
@YiJiang You think?

jQuery might let me do a lot, but i'm pretty sure i can't do those...
@PopularDemand really it should just tell you how much i hate using my mouse

Maybe jQuery and a mouse would make that possible..but.

rofl

$.cure('cancer')

ah, switching rooms is next.

2:37 AM
$('*').bind('click', function() { $(this).cure('cancer'); });

@TimStone I don't think my HTML elements have cancer....

The SO General room is getting a little....Doomsday-depressing..y
@YiJiang You haven't used enough semantic markup to correctly link them to real people.

@TimStone Talking about Corona Mass Ejections makes you depressed ;)

Perhaps it would be easier to get cancer, secure moon peace and... cure the world?

@PopularDemand Chaining make things like that so much easier

2:41 AM
Wow. I'm finally getting around to downloading an IDE for the effectively new computer. Skipping MyEclipse and going with regular Eclipse... but so many flavors!

hehe

@PopularDemand Wow, the MyEclipse website is....
Eh

@TimStone Tablelicious, that's the word you're looking for

@YiJiang That works, but I also want something that speaks more to the "WTF are these colours?" feeling I'm having.

There are way too many add-ons to Eclipse. I have no idea what to get.

2:44 AM
@PopularDemand What are you doing?

> Congrats, you've gained the privilege to edit questions and answers [on SO]
Finally! </itsAllAboutMe>

Oh, exciting!

nice!

Thanks!
Alright, where's some poorly-formatted code at?

Look for 1 rep users

2:47 AM
@YiJiang Heh, thanks.

@YiJiang Unformatted HTML is the best, because then other users think that no code was posted.

By the way: does anyone else not close the "you won a badge"/"you gained a privilege"-style banners?
I feel like there's not enough color without them.

Nice

@PopularDemand I close them almost immediately, because if not they propagate to the dozen or so SO tabs I usually have open like a virus and takes up that precious 20px of screen space

I don't need that third of my screen.

2:51 AM
Brings that crafty alien down to eye-level.

haha

@JeffAtwood How long will the migration last and associated accounts get turned on again?
@rchern rchern bot string collection ['haha!', 'nice!', hehe', 'ello!', 'oy', '):']

@YiJiang You missed " oy ."

o:

@rchern Yeah, that one too.
Oh, and don't forget >_>!

3:00 AM
huzzah!!!!!

@rchern Hmmm... the bot's behavior is getting British

i got /join working now too (;

Any Eclipse suggestions before I choose by throwing a dart at my monitor?

suggestions?

@PopularDemand What are you doing with it?

3:04 AM
oh, for the versions?

@PopularDemand Here's an edit for you: stackoverflow.com/posts/3947298/edit

@YiJiang I assume bold means "I already asked you this and you didn't respond, dolt!" So, sorry.
Java, primarily.

Note the use of <blink> tags around the code.

@PopularDemand Tim did

Wicket, I hope.
I've had trouble installing that in the past.
JS, perhaps.
I'm thinking of learning C#, but I didn't see an option for that and never hear about Eclipse and C# in the same sentence, so I assume they aren't compatible.

3:07 AM
@PopularDemand Well, it is a general purpose IDE, so maybe...

@TimStone Heh, thanks.

Then install WTP, I guess. I actually think there might be some sort of plugin in WTP for Wicket, but I might be wrong..

@TimStone This just baffles me.
Did he truly want blinking code?

@PopularDemand His code is really attention worthy.
I was actually going to edit the post before I got confused by the random ellipsis and felt the urge to comment "Well there's your problem."

@TimStone You mean attention-worthy only every other second?

3:11 AM
@PopularDemand you are welcome!

@PopularDemand Yes, it's a sort of hit and miss approach.

Argh, while I was hovering on the submit button:
"Be advised: this post has been edited 1 time by other users while you were editing."

@PopularDemand Hehe.. beat you to it
I feel slightly more evil now

There are four users named Justin Johnson?

@YiJiang's evilness has increased! +10 EXP

3:14 AM
@TimStone Thanks for this.
@YiJiang You left the all-majuscule title?

Let me know how Wicket turns out for you by the way, so I can decide whether or not I made a bad decision by not going with it.

Meh, not quite worth another edit.
I'll find plenty of things to edit on my own in the coming days, I'm sure.
@TimStone I use it at work. I have no experience with other frameworks, but it seems quite reasonable overall.

@PopularDemand How did I miss that! Go edit it, before somebody get's blinded by all the uppercaseness of it

Since 1.4, it's been kind of a pain figuring out what to pop in for the generics, though.

Ah, cool. We're using Play! right now.

3:21 AM
Right, time to get my download on.
See you all in a bit.

Good luck, heh.
shakes fist at Eclipse

3:32 AM
alright. who here is a keyboard shortcut person? other than star/quote/join what would be useful?

I can't think of any other suggestion that isn't ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous, actually.

i am positively loving /join ^__^

Well, I guess you could add a quit too? I never leave, so not that important to me. :P

hehe yeah, me neither.

@rchern Hmmm... maybe some sort of random phrase generator? Yeah, running out of ideas

3:38 AM
Do you have/is there already a shortcut to edit your last sent message?

Or /transcript to switch to the room transcript?

@TimStone hit the up arrow

Oh right, I actually knew that...
Whoops.

(:

@rchern Where/When can we get a copy of your uber cool script?

3:41 AM
i don't consider it finished yet (:

4:00 AM

Q: 打包时怎么忽略掉不需要打包的文件,tar命令

jelly打包时怎么忽略掉不需要打包的文件,如果用tar命令怎么打包? In English How to exclude files when packaging using tar? A BETTER TRANSLATION: How do I exclude files when packaging files using tar? Thanks Google Translate

What sort of advice do you think we should give him?

4:33 AM
@YiJiang I'm not sure, but you should reply in French.
Well, the first half in French, anyways.

4:52 AM
/join <89 | tav>, /quote <id>, /transcript, /star <id>

@rchern Sure
/star 241173
Oops

shift+enter >_>

@rchern Well, do you expect any bugs?

@rchern Awesome! Is it supposed to leave the command in the text area?

no and no
my code never has bugs
only features.

4:58 AM
Well, it has that particular feature for me :)

heh

This is way simpler than I thought it would be, I didn't think of just clicking the existing buttons

all commands or just one?

I was going to try and figure out what it sent to the server when you click a star and replay that
I only tried /star
The others don't appear to work. Maybe /star didn't and somebody else just starred the same post at the same time

hrm

5:00 AM
Yeah, never mind, I don't think any work

):
/transcript ?

Let me shut off some of my more intrusive extensions

@rchern what is /quote suppose to do?

i had some console.log statements in there but i took them out

15 secs ago, by Yi Jiang
@rchern what is /quote suppose to do?

5:01 AM
16 secs ago, by Yi Jiang
@rchern what is /quote suppose to do?

Ah, okay, now it works

It works now; I blame Vrome
Very cool

vrome?

It seems to interfere with other extensions rather a lot. chromeextensions.org/other/vrome

ah

5:26 AM
Hello
I feel like a cukoo clock
every hour or so I come in here and say hi..

@Chacha102 I can build a bot to do that for you if you want ;)

heh

@YiJiang I think @rchern sees me enough. Every hour on the hour might make her head explode
2

o:

and she has such a beautiful head.. :)

5:47 AM
Yes, that is me practicing being nice/social....
night

3 hours later…
8:38 AM
the avatar to-fade-or-not-to-fade issue should be fixed now, so if you see that again, please re-report

Q: What programming languages will have highest chances to exist if World War 3 happens?

user5528Ok, this might sound like a weird question at first but ... believe me, this is not a stupid one. If World War 3 happens, will Microsoft have any chance to sell Windows? Will they make .NET source open and free? Will C# die? I think Java will have best chance to survive but I want to hear your o...

Was this the original intent of programmers.stackexchange? lol

@TimStone I'm sorry, have 15 consolation rep

10:03 AM
@rchern <del>Bug</del> Feature Report: Some messages, such as deleted or edited messages, get double message id. Like this one here. I wonder if I can get more than one to appear. Yup. They disappear on refresh of course.

in Chat feedback on Stack Overflow Chat, 17 hours ago, by rchern
yeah, there's duplication on my edit, but meh

@balpha Haha... It's a feature™ alright.
@rchern I think giving the id their own class, then checking for length should do.

10:26 AM
Right... let's see if my patch works. With one edit... and again. Right, this works
if(!$this.siblings('.id').length){
   	var id = this.id.replace("message-","");
	$this.before("<div class='timestamp id'>" + id + "</div>");
}
Or not... Dammit, this fails for more than one posts joined together
Okay, take two. let's give this a try.
var id = this.id.replace("message-","");

if(!$(this).siblings('#id-' + id).length){
	$('<div />').insertBefore(this)
		.text(id)
		.addClass('timestamp')
		.attr('id', 'id-' + id);
}
This fixes the repeating id <del>bug</del> feature

Hello

@AidenBell 'Ello
You'll want to take a look at the chat userscript @rchern is developing

link? What's it do?

10:41 AM
5 hours ago, by rchern
/join <89 | tav>, /quote <id>, /transcript, /star <id>
Then press shift + enter to execute the commands

cool

Basically, it add's IRC-like commands
@AidenBell I've just fixed a bug. It also appear to be very customisable, kudos to @rchern for making it ;)

/quote <user> would be good to quote a user's last message
id's are unintuative

@AidenBell Yeah, but that's unlikely to be useful
I've asked her about keyboard navigation, but she seems to prefer this method

or along those lines, I don't see anywhere immediate to grab ids

10:44 AM
@AidenBell The script auto-adds the message id to the right of every message

aaahhh

The scripts above is my attempt at fixing a <del>bug</del> feature in her code about the auto-adding feature

that makes more sense

Yet, they're the two least-used browsers between the mainstream ones.
Clearly that's not right?

When has mainstream browser choice ever been right?
Saying that, im not a massive fan of Chrome development.

10:54 AM
in other news Opera 11 is adding extensions.
that said I just can't switch from anything that isn't Chrome :/
even though Opera does torrents (nice!), sync with my mobile (nice!), email (meh), feeds (meh), webserver (meh), widgets (meh)...

2 hours later…
12:30 PM
case "load":
	var loadBtn = $('#getmore');
	loadBtn.click();

	setTimeout(function() {
		if(loadBtn.text() === 'load older messages'){
			$(document).scrollTop($(document).height());
		}
	}, 100);

	handled = true;
	break;
@rchern I've just written a load function for that script

1:21 PM
o:

@rchern How does the jQuery plugin injection script work?

hm?

I'm trying to use livequery for something else but can't seem to get it to work

is // @exclude chat.* valid for greasemonkey scripts?

case "highlight":
	var messages;

	if( isNaN(parseInt(id, 10)) ){
		messages = $('.username:contains("'+ id +'")').parents('.messages');
	} else {
		messages = $('#message-' + parseInt(id, 10));
	}
	messages.livequery(function(){
		$(this).addClass('gm-highlight');
	}
	handled = true;
	break;
I'm using this for highlighting, but I think it's failing on the livequery call

1:32 PM
the plugin gets included with this call/function
with_plugin("http://stackflair.com/jquery.livequery.js", function($) {
take a look at how that works

@rchern Yeah, but I read the function source, and it seems to insert a script element everytime it's called
Which seems very inefficient for this

well that's why there's only one with_jquery and one with_plugin (:
what if you just switch the order of ^^

@rchern Also, why isn't the with_jquery function inside the with_jquery function?

huh?

@rchern Oh wait.. chat uses jQuery... stupid question

1:35 PM
ah hehehehe (:

A: What's the correct way to @include all SE sites?

radp// @include http://stackoverflow.com // @include http://superuser.com // @include http://serverfault.com // @include http://askubuntu.com // @include http://stackexchange.com // @include http://nothingtoinstall.com // @exclude http://odata.stackexchange.c...

am I missing anything there? (It's CW.)

@radp Eh, why not just include http://*.stackexchange.com

Oh wow, it's Saturday...Hmm.

er, good point, stackexchange.com and *.stackexchange are different

why is NTI on there and what @YiJiang said and those won't include the metas

1:37 PM
chats, odata, area51 are good examples however
NTI will eventually be its own site <_<
Added metas.

kinda
meta.so
meta.su
// @include        http://*stackexchange.com/*
// @include        http://*stackoverflow.com/*
// @include        http://*superuser.com/*
// @include        http://*serverfault.com/*
// @include        http://*askubuntu.com/*
// @include        http://*answers.onstartups.com/*
isn't perfect either though
but that's what i have in my SEModifications script

@rchern I think it's just http://answer.onstartups.com/*

@rchern be careful not touching chat in unwanted ways :)

o:

1:41 PM
chat.stackexchange.com matches */stackexchange.com/*
just saying.

i know. but i also know the stuff in my SEModifications.user.js doesn't conflict
heh
and let's not mention SEChatModifcations.user.js.......

I know you know, but for the context of that general answer I guess it's better to exclude them <.<

4 mins ago, by rchern
isn't perfect either though

That's why I'm trying to get something perfect here:

Q: What's the correct way to @include all SE sites?

radpWhat's the @include sequence that most accurately lists all the SE sites for greasemonkey/userscript hacking purposes?

yes i understand that

1:44 PM
tbh it'd be best if GM could just fetch the site list remotely

i was just showing you my variant because you didn't have the metas

thanks, I've added them all now :)

(meta.)?seasonedadvice.com

cooking got their own redirect too? nice :)

cooking actually gets to be called Seasoned Advice
check their page/logo

1:46 PM
highlight = function(element){
	element.livequery(function(){
		$(this).addClass('gm-highlight');
	});
};
This isn't working very well I think

you should expand on the @excludes for chats

gah, I thought I did have a chat.* rule

you do, but it won't match chat.so

no wait, it doesn't matter
chat just isn't matched by the includes

oh right got it

1:49 PM
except for the upcoming chat.SE

@YiJiang, nice work on the id div modification. taking a look at load now

@rchern Can you say something, I'm testing the highlight script with livequery

something

@rchern Hmm... not working. Thanks
@rchern Can you try that again?

>_>

1:59 PM
@rchern Yes! It works! hugs and kisses ~
