Let's add "the user" while we're at it.

@SmokeDetector Suggested an edit.
Everybody vote up my answer so I can get to 2k. :P
Oh hey, I logged in! Yay!

Hey, when did they change the text for the recommendation close reason?
And is SU abandoned? superuser.com/review/suggested-edits/264091 APPROVEAPPROVEAPPROVE!
Ok, here are the damages from account merge:
- Lost 120 flags
- Broke visit streak
- Time was used testing
- Didn't get to review when not signed in

- Skin grafts and scars from Frankensteining accounts together lead to a lifetime of ridicule and social isolation

@AnnaLear There are still comments, revisions, and reviews that are on bjb568@gmail.

9:18 PM
@bjb568 That's not getting transferred back, sorry.

:O
Why not?

My best advice at this point is to move on. I'm sorry we apparently merged you erroneously, but seriously? There's a profile that belongs to your friend with nearly identical email, overlap in contact emails, IPs, etc? Don't share your stuff.
Because we can't tell reliably which things belong to you and which belong to the owner of the other account.
And because account merging and unmerging is technically tricky.

Then... ask before merging?

The vast majority of merges are user-requested. Automated systems go through a lot of checks first as well. To be perfectly honest, I'm not 100% convinced you don't run both accounts yourself. I'm taking your word for it, but unfortunately there's only so much I can do to separate them again and we're pretty much at the limit there.

Why would it even matter if I owned both accounts myself?

9:25 PM
@AnnaLear Is there a significant risk of automated merging of users with the same IP?

@bjb568 It doesn't in principle (so long as there's no cross-voting, etc. Which, to be clear, there wasn't here as far as I know), but we don't officially support multiple distinct accounts per person and in most cases it's people accidentally creating multiples.
@JasonC "There shouldn't be." (TM) Seriously, no. Automated merges are rather conservative.

Well, warn before doing a potentially destructive action, always. Preferably me, not just a robot that rubber-stamps everything based on IP (like that's accurate).
And... why the hell is the log out button on the site drop down? Is it a site?
I didn't notice it until yesterday.

@bjb568 Yeah, I'm not super thrilled with that either. We couldn't think of a better spot for it, though that wasn't prominently on the top bar.
(And before you ask, it's not on the topbar itself because we have things we want to put there more.)

I forget where it used to be before the new top bar.

My favorite is still putting it somewhere on the user profile, but that didn't get supported internally.
@JasonC it was in the dropdown you got when hovering over your username

9:28 PM
@JasonC it was on the profile dropdown

Oh right.

why don't we have one, again?

@AnnaLear How about not letting users log themselves out at all, then put a log out button on everybody else's profile page. Then community vote can be required to log somebody out.
Whether they want it or not.

@JasonC Stack Overflow Survivor

@AnnaLear I... don't have horrible design taste.
@AnnaLear How about you get rid of the stupid openid provider adder, and replace it with log out?

9:30 PM
@AnnaLear Haha, yes.

@bjb568 What? Oh, you mean the "my logins" link?

I still have no idea WTH it is.
(that's a yes)

never noticed it

You can have more than one way to sign in registered with your account. Google, Facebook, etc.
For as long as we support that (or logging in with third-party providers), we can't replace that... but that would be a logical place for a logout link as well, yeah.

@AnnaLear Yes, with the cost of confusing people, cluttering the space, making it look like you're building features for the sake of it, especially if nobody uses it.

9:34 PM
I don't think you can say we're "building" it. This has been in place for years. I agree that it's confusing as hell, but we're kind of stuck with it now. I'd like to work out a saner system... might get to that next year? Not sure.

FIXITFIXITFIXIT!

I personally think we originally bet on the wrong horse with openid and all, but that a) predates me and b) isn't easy to undo at this stage.

Instead of cookies for every site, make it a SE login, one page (stackexchange.com/log(in|out)), one cookie, one openid provider. No signup for individual sites. No damned account merging!

@bjb568 That wouldn't remove the need/possibility for merging.
We do have global login in the works, though. Not sure what shape it's going to take (and I'm probably not gonna be the one working on it)

In the works = 6-8 years?

9:38 PM
Hold on, let me look up this super up-to-date schedule we have that will definitely never be deviated from because that's how software development works. ;)
All I got is that it's currently on the roadmap and we don't plan that far ahead.

What do you guys work on, anyway? It's like every once-in-a-while, I see a meta post by Shog or somebody like "Everything is crap, I'm changing it!", then the 10kers say hooray and I dunno what happened. Or like today the recommendation CV reason changed it's wording.

@bjb568 Bug fixes, new features, performance enhancements, etc.
@TheWobbuffet Seems naive... Mostly due to your choice of tags.

@TheWobbuffet where are some newlines?

@AnnaLear Ah, version 4.56.7890: bug fixes and performance enhancements (every iOS app store update ever)

9:42 PM
@AnnaLear It's kind of biased... I mean, noobs aren't going to use assembly and I've seen more nooby questions in the php tag

@TheWobbuffet (AnswerCount*(1+-Score)) as [Difficulty Level (The higher the easier)] - you might as well just use a random number :)

:P
More answers = Easier Obviously
If score is low question is bad which means probably obvious

or unclear

I think I'll go ahead and remove that or php or js thing
If the question is good (positive amount of votes), it's not an easy-to-answer question
Or not that easy, anyway
If you look at the results, this has the highest difficulty level: stackoverflow.com/questions/24505712/…
Which means easiest
And we can see it is really easy to answer :P
Haha "not connecting to the internet" :P
This has second highest, also extremely easy to answer stackoverflow.com/questions/24490575/…

I want to write one line of XML and connect to the Internet. :(

9:49 PM
@AnnaLear And the point was, that just gives the application permission to use the internet :P

Y U NO WERK?
SELECT (
  Id as [Post Link],
  (AnswerCount*(1+-Score)) as [Difficulty Level (The higher the easier)],
  Score,
  AnswerCount,
  Tags from Posts
) WHERE (
  Score <= 0 and
  (Title LIKE '%if%' or Title LIKE '%<%' or Title LIKE '%>%' or Title LIKE '%not working%')
)
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'as'.
I know nothing about TSQL.

Me neither, but after a while I figured my way out

@bjb568 leave out the parentheses after select

Hmm
That looks fine
Oh yeah that :P

@JanDvorak Why? MySQL allows it. Ugh.

9:52 PM
@bjb568 select (... from ...) ...? I'm sure not

@bjb568 I hate that you can't "contains()" in tsql

@JanDvorak Try it.

Or at least you can, but not in SEDE

The query processor ran out of internal resources and could not produce a query plan. This is a rare event and only expected for extremely complex queries or queries that reference a very large number of tables or partitions. Please simplify the query. If you believe you have received this message in error, contact Customer Support Services for more information.

@bjb568 I don't see how that would work

9:53 PM
"if" isn't always bad

@TheWobbuffet SELECT (This, That, TheOtherThing) FROM Table WHERE (Name = 'BobbyTables')
Why not?

Oh yeah that works
Just not in the parenthasis
Anyway, why did you remove the not assembly?

I doubt there are noobs who will consider trying a Hello World app in assembly

@TheWobbuffet Assembly is a minority. We can ignore it.

9:55 PM
Yeah, I doubt there will be much questions on it

@JanDvorak O.o

BTW, LIKE is expensive. That's what makes it run out of resources.

@JanDvorak <insert here BOOM SFX>
@JanDvorak BTW: "I would like to solve all my problems with domain" wut?

@bjb568 Why don't you have a SEDE account, or what is it?

@TheWobbuffet Why do I need a SEDE account? I just solve a captcha, and I'm good.
@JanDvorak CV unclear, -1

9:58 PM
Meh
Sometimes the captchas don't work

My query found this one (difficulty 15):

Q: HTTP status: 404 - Java Servlet

goutamThis may be a very small problem but still I am not able to find the solution. I am using Apace Tomcat 7.0.54 with JAVA 1.7 I am getting the following error in the webpage in which I created a html page and added a servlet name and URL mapping to the web.xml Error message: HTTP Status 404 - /...

@bjb568 voted

Wow you beat me to that edit
stackoverflow.com/questions/24507044/… <- Kind of questions my query is supposed to find

Close above as norepo/typo.

@bjb568 Let's call it our query, then :P
Of course, there is no algorithm for easy-to-answer questions
Just an algorithm to nooby questions

Q: How to send 100,000 emails weekly?

xRobotHow can one send an email to 100,000 users on a weekly basis in PHP? This includes mail to subscribers using the following providers: AOL G-Mail Hotmail Yahoo It is important that all e-mail actually be delivered, to the extent that it is possible. Obviously, just sending the mail conventiona...

@bjb568 I'm going to make it sort by difficulty level
Lol
High to low

^^ Lol, the answer is "buy a big-ass emailer"
@TheWobbuffet Done.

@bjb568 I wish there was a way to star the query and not the edits

"buy a big-ass emailer" XKCD-ified: "buy a big ass-emailer"

Gahhhh SEDE isn't letting me scroll
With mouse wheel
Very well, I mean

10:11 PM
How can I make it WHERE NOT Closed?

Umm
Play around with it :P
Oh wait is there a closed boolean listed?

@TheWobbuffet No

@bjb568 WHERE ClosedDate IS NULL

@hichris123 doesn't that exclude reopened?

10:13 PM
@JanDvorak Probably, but it's the easiest way..

@hichris123 We could do something with reopened date... does that exist?

I tried ClosedDate = NULL. What's the difference?

@bjb568 NULL doesn't equal itself

@JanDvorak that

IS NULL is a syntax construct

10:15 PM
@hichris123 Don't worry, I fixed it
@JanDvorak Yeah, well I don't know much about sql

TSQL vs. MySQL is also annoying...

It also probably is like obj c's isequaltostring

I work with MySQL all of the time except with SEDE. :P

Well, my query picks up impossible questions too.

@hichris123 Can't we do if title has [CLOSED] or something?

10:17 PM
First one, too broad, score 280: stackoverflow.com/q/22881919/3890059

@bjb568 Yeah, I think that's better. Why don't you check if Title is like [CLOSED] or however it works

@TheWobbuffet Isn't this just a display feature?

Eh, you do that. I need to do some exercising (wii).

Hehehe
@JanDvorak What do you mean by that?
Oh, it's not included in the actual title?
Hmmm
I'll try it...

I would guess

10:19 PM
Let's see
Wait
Part of my query was that it checks if simple coding statements were in the title
I guess we can leave it out...
@JanDvorak Yes, it is a display feature. Doesn't work; sigh
Also, easy to answer questions are closed

Closed questions have a not-null ClosedDate. You can query for that.

@hichris123 I work with a system at work that is only ANSI SQL 92 Entry Level compliant. That makes going from modern systems to work less than fun.

@hichris123 owo

10:32 PM
meh, half of the <put OS name here> are OT

... pretty much.

@AnnaLear Uh... Merge this into this.

@bjb568 will not be easier just to search for all your accounts everywhere in all sites?

Everything works... except A51.
Oh, but no association bonus here and here.

11:04 PM
@JanDvorak Holy crap!

By that do you mean that if FSM completes the form, all crap will become holy?

That is a ton of form data.

@ShadowWizard I can't believe I made that typo! I've read that title so many times and never noticed it.

11:19 PM
@ɥʇǝS What are you replying to?

11:47 PM

DV, mod flag to remove bounty and close.
(I did the mod flag, now everybody can help with the downvoting)

kk thanks

@Cupcake Wow, SO Academy. Another Area 51 classic.

@ɥʇǝS yeah, happens to the best ;)

Q: What happened to the broken link review queue?

ɥʇǝSFor a bit there was a sort of "beta" review queue for broken links at yoursite.se/review/links, you can still see the stats for that queue at http://meta.stackexchange.com/review/links/stats. However trying to review more bad links gives me a 404 page. I assume the queue was taken down. What hap...

"ed" was... forgotten.

If that ever makes it in then out of private beta I pledge to troll the crap out of it, even if it costs me all SE network privileges.

11:53 PM
@JasonC When you get to commit to the Area 51 proposal it will ask you "Why you want to join the site" and you should put "So I can troll it"

@SantaClaus Ha; Tempting if it didn't help increase their follower count.

@bjb568 It's been closed

@ShadowWizard Huh... I just found that post on my own. Telepathy?
Anyway, upvote it pls.
@AnnaLear Is it the same with votes?
