Any idea who is the fraudster?

The shop gave me an email address @ShadowWizard. But that does not ring a bell at all. They informed me that several other post addresses were used as well. So I asked them if there is any logical connection. Perhaps if they share them I might figure it out. But I would not be surprised if it's at random by someone in my neighbourhood.

That sounds scary...

I don't particularly like it. But then again I'm not really at risk. I asked the company if they wanted to take any action if necessary. Let's see.

Today it's a phone, tomorrow it can be white powder... who knows?

That I will keep

2:14 PM
Not a good idea
The 2001 anthrax attacks in the United States, also known as Amerithrax from its Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) case name, occurred over the course of several weeks beginning on Tuesday, September 18, 2001, one week after the September 11 attacks. Letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. Senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others. According to the FBI, the ensuing investigation became "one of the largest and most complex in the history of law enforcement". A major focus in the early years of the investigation ...

Ah right, it's the blue crystal-y stuff I want

@Oded are you present?

Am now

wow... "Summon Dev" spell. Impressive!

2:20 PM
Ha, and then it went silent .... @Flyk is really just trying out a spell

no, I'm explaining a possible bug using personally identifiable information

Sssst you spoiler of fun. Don't take us out of our dreamworld.

Weird, can't see @Oded in the users grid to the right
And can see @YiJiang even though he didn't post anything for 17 days

They are all watching us...

YiJiang just observes the room and then shakes his head in disappointment.

2:30 PM
If you have a long discussion with someone in comments, you get a "would you like to chat...?" option. Is there a way of forcing that early?
Or do I just create a room and leave a link and wait and see?

Q: Is it possible to import comments into a chat room without the link appearing?

M. TibbitsQuestion: For an answer on a stack exchange site with say 8 comments, how can I / is it possible to import the comments into a chat room? Background: I was helping with a question and made several comments before I saw the link to auto-import comments into a chat room. This was awesome by the w...

Short answer: nope

Ok, thanks @Bart.

Talking about stalkers, @rene, another weirdness.. Bret Copeland appears to always be here and it even says "talked 16h ago" but no actual message anywhere (recent tab is empty)

@NickCraver What's the font in this screenshot? Me wantz it.

Monaco?

2:40 PM
@Undo Consolas in VS 2013 in Parallels @ 200% DPI

Maybe he talks and then remove his message? @ShadowWizard

@NickCraver Thanks!

@rene no, found it. He posted in the Hangar, the "talked [x] ago" and "last message" in profile both show last message anywhere, not in the specific room or site.
@Nick who read those comments? ;)

@ShadowWizard people with very tiny eyes

2:58 PM
We need a new special tag, [sscce] that works like [meta] or [help] and points people towards sscce.org.
Can those tags be site-specific?

You don't mean "tag" do you? You mean an automatic link, right?

magic link

Yeah, whatever it's called. I went for "special tag", but call it "magic link", "unicorn text",...

[help]
doesn't work :(

@ShadowWizard It works only in comments, not in chat.

3:13 PM
@ProgramFOX but chat has same mini markdown as comments.... oh well

@ShadowWizard I don't think that it is actually markdown, but just a comment-feature.

status-needs-help

How we can assist?

Urgh, I hate trying to squeeze an SSCCE from someone who can't be bothered.

I hate improperly configured load balancers.

3:17 PM

"LOLZ I just filled my question with inputs and outputz thats same thing right? Plz help realsoon"

"We support a limited subset of Markdown styling in chat, similar to comment formatting on The Stack Exchange Network"
Note the "similar", so it is not exactly the same as comment formatting.

Yup, @ProgramFOX - thanks!

Welcome.

3:22 PM
Just noticed something weird. The Interesting questions list no longer shows questions with tag you ignore. Can anyone reproduce?
(and yes, it's "Gray out questions in your ignored tags" in my prefs)

The system probably thinks that questions with ignored tags are never interesting (which makes sense)

@3ventic yeah, but it used to show grayed out. Ignored tags had some weight in the formula, now it looks like it's 100% weight.

isn't that how it should be?

@ShadowWizard I don't see that blog post being updated, especially since we're still tweaking...and are about to start a long ML process to make it better. It's basically a constant work in progress for the moment, as time allows. — Nick Craver 16 hours ago
It wasn't like this until they started tweaking the formula

I'm not saying it was bugged before

3:29 PM
No bug here, just undocumented changes :)

I'm just saying that you should only ignore a tag if you don't want to have anything to do with it

@3ventic sure, but then the "Gray out questions in your ignored tags" becomes irrelevant

only in interesting questions
ignored is like the opposite of interesting after all
Having greyed out questions in a list of interesting questions is like saying "You're not interested in what you're supposed to be interested in"
That's not particularly friendly to the user

Just got offline for maintenance on mSO - is it happening?
Wait, it's back.

@ShadowWizard He's talking in employee-private rooms.

3:40 PM
Oooh, query all the things!!

@TimStone found something ;)
the Stack Exchange text & icon isn't Retina like it is on the main sites.

Wow, why is CR still beta with those figures?

Because CR

Because reasons, I hear.

@Undo Meh. :P

3:43 PM
:P

Argh. |:

Regarding my SSCCE discussion about, I just found stackoverflow.com/help/mcve and raised a meta question to request a magic link for it.

Does it need to say "Stack Exchange" behind all those @TimStone?
Just remove that and it should be fine.

@Bart Close mv.se. Problem solved.

3:45 PM
Or that.

@Bart No, which is conveniently the easiest solution. Blame redirected to @NickCraver, whew.

Ha

I should have checked for even longer site names though, that's my bad.
My local instance doesn't have those betas.

@TimStone "most recent" isn't updated, all points three days back

That's right, the data hasn't been updated since then.
Really that column isn't particularly useful now, but neither is having the full list of sites on the front page either...sooo...
mm..I also should have just given widths to the columns.
Will fix.

3:50 PM
I thought "most recent" means most recent query

No, it's the most recent update of the data.

@TimStone table so we can sort it IMO, could move most recent to be a label above everything instead of a column, get the max from Sites table?

Anyway, another one... when clicking site with long name e.g. data.stackexchange.com/music/queries?order_by=recent the site icon becomes unreadable

@NickCraver Yeah, that seems reasonable. It's in the help page too, but that's not front-and-center. The whole organization of queries needs some work in these post-saved-queries days, at which point it might make sense to repurpose the front page anyway...but haven't thought that one out yet to see if it'd make sense.
@ShadowWizard Ah, yeah, I didn't even touch those pages yet, but thanks for reminding me.

Wow you fixed the column widths, that was quick!

3:53 PM
Nick's quick on the draw. ;)

that's what she said
@TimStone sexy changes btw, sorry I have little time to assist besides the quick bits - busy uploading all your data to the NSA and all that

Can a moderator please rename the tag "git-stack" on StackOverflow to "gitstack"? I created the tag, and the lead developer of GitStack (gitstack.com) just sent me an email asking to remove the dash. (Is this the right place to ask?) Thanks.

@NickCraver I thought it was the fast shooting she mentioned, not the quick draw?

where's that ban button?

@NickCraver Heheh, thanks. And no problem, I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't enjoy it, and I know there's always a mountain of things on your plate. :P
And I have a federal ID from a three-letter agency, I imagine the NSA already has all my data.

3:58 PM
no one seems to have noticed yet but we are uploading timings from 0.1% of requests to our network so we can see where perf in the world sucks, and make sure our upcoming changes are making a difference

@DanNissenbaum If it doesn't get done here you can make a post on Meta about it with your reasoning, I'm sure someone will handle it.
@NickCraver I noticed. o_o
...Because you or someone said something about it.

@TimStone the Help page contains a link "Subscribe to data dumps" which is dead (ClearBits no more)

Yeah, I'm holding off on fixing that until another arrangement is made.

But better just removing/disabling it for now... no?

How would people remember to complain about it then? :P

4:01 PM
writing a script to upload a fresh data dump to internet archive now...would hold off on changes there

See, @ShadowWizard! My laziness knows what it's doing. ;)

writing a script to upload a fresh data dump to internet archive now ... I'll try to hold back on the toilet humour.

@TimStone of course! And @Bart why hold back? Surely everyone here will appreciate some fresh humor :D

How fresh can it be if it comes from a toilet?

"Fresh" might not be the right word there.
"Steamy" however...

@Tim you should really get a diamond on Meta... or at least "assign moderator tags" privilege :)

Maybe one day, when MSE exists, I can campaign my way to the top. :P

4:34 PM
You're gonna call MSE moderatorship "the top", @TimStone? =)

It's an upside-down world @jadarnel27.

Haha, right.

1 hour later…
5:59 PM
Hrm, no Tim Post..

is it OK to cast a close vote on such an awfully upvoted primarily opinion based questions? stackoverflow.com/questions/137975/…

Absolutely.
Old, upvoted and popular != on-topic within current rules.

Thanks Martijn. A user I tried to help called me "Mr. Police" today in a comment
because I voted for closing his question as well as 2-3 links like that he sent to me for closure consideration. This is one of them.

6:19 PM
This answer is actually a question.
I flagged as NAA, and it got disputed.
I knew I should have used a custom flag =)

Wow, the author of that answer has 36 questions with 10k views.

Ha, Mr. Police is still rather polite @LaszloPapp. I've received emails that said far worse things. :D
*"I really didn't want to have to do this twice today, but I am going to have call you out. On what you ask? being-an-#ss.

I didn't want to have to leave a full detailed message on just what exactly it was that I was trying to imagine. Instead it was meant as a short message, suggestive, you know, like an idea. Yeah, that's what it was, an idea. And where should I suddenly but a moved to, but a place to post a relatively simple http request... where I could post a question, you know where, #ssholes like you seem to post.
That one amused me most

6:34 PM
@JessicaYang I think the Undo disappearing thing is for sending an email. Google holds your mail for 10 seconds, during which time you can undo. After that 10 seconds the email is sent and you cannot undo from that point on. — Danqing Jan 13 at 18:38
That comment thread was slightly amusing to me :P
I didn't know I disappear. And apparently it's a feature.

It's somewhat disappointing to me that you have not left this room 10 seconds after posting that.

Heh
I'm looking forward to that MSE split ;)

6:54 PM
@Bart: :/
one more close vote please :)

@animuson - My hero! Thanks.

Already did

@Bart: ok, thanks. I think I will suggest to the user to bring it up on meta if he wishes.
I am restricted by the site policy for my activity, so I am between two forces. :)

Yeah, usually my approach as well. "Take it to Meta"

It was Nick Craver - he hacked my account. :P

7:09 PM
@animuson you missed one - or is it because it's tagged ?

Oh what the hell. I did that the hard way? Those links aren't actually links in the chat transcript... I was copy-pasting the ID numbers.

@animuson I triple clicked each line to select it --> right click --> Go to "link here" :)
The wonders of Chrome

I didn't know that feature existed...

@animuson yeah, they keep adding new cool features... and now you know :D

wants to get into mSE
pokes dev.se

Ohhhh a private beta invitation.

@animuson Huh wha? Where?
Ooooh.
I know ;)

I don't think mSE will have private beta, or any real beta at all

They'll just ask us to test it for a while to find all their bugs :D

7:18 PM
@ShadowWizard We would fail miserably on the niceness category :P
@animuson I shall henceforth refer to it as R&D

I didn't even realize it had reached full commitment.

It did this week, methinks

@Undo why? we're very nice to each other... and newbies won't reach mSE in the beginning ;)

@ShadowWizard Yes, but we tear programming questions apart like nothing else :P

@animuson weird, I committed and never got email with invitation to the beta :(

7:20 PM
@animuson Will the babaji spam be on-topic there?

@Undo yup, and feature requests we don't like.

@ShadowWizard Yeah, that too
in Relationships and Dating on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 31 secs ago, by Undo
I herewith declare the abbreviated name for this site to be R&D.

@JanDvorak Not for at least a week. ;)

Time to prepare dinner, c'ya all!

^^^ (go up three messages) Everyone go star that so that it takes them a long time to get it off their star board

7:21 PM
thanks @Undo ;)

@ShadowWizard There, ambiguity removed :P

@Undo Or a moderator clears the stars on it?

@animuson Yes, but what mod would do that? glares

@animuson Oh yeah, that would have been terrible of me to give you non-link links

7:22 PM
@animuson can mod clear stars?! Wow

@ShadowWizard Room owners can too

This chat is like Chrome, I keep discovering new features! :D

@TimStone It's hard to tell if I can trust this new with-face version of Tim Stone...

this change alters too much in the existing tim

Blame @Pëkka

7:24 PM
Is that what the wheel said?

No, it actually is his fault.

Oh

@tmslft haha that gravatar is awesome. When will it come to Meta?

Get the pitchforks!!!

I should make me one of those.
@TimStone pure photoshop or did you hold a piece of green fabric or something?

7:26 PM
I held an official Stack Exchange Blue box.

@TimStone Where do you get those?
looks for official looking blue boxes

My swag came in one once.

Ah

@TimStone That was you?!

Given Pekka's involvement I have to doubt you are the genuine @TimStone.

7:27 PM
I just heard about that earlier today!

What did I do?

Discovered the blue box.

Speaking of which, I still haven't gotten my New Year's swag!

We must have a picture of this box.

I think I might have gotten rid of it. That or it's in my closet.

7:28 PM
@Undo One of my t-shirts came in the fancy blue box. I didn't keep it though because the postal service kind of destroyed the box in the process and it looked like crap.

@TimStone Noooo!!!

I cannot tarnish the Stack Exchange name with a dingy looking box!

Also @TimStone (now that I'm reading a bit of scrollback), haven't you used that avatar before? It doesn't feel brand new to me.

@Pops We must hear the blue box story.

It's my Careers avatar

7:30 PM
@Undo It's not a good story. It was interesting to me only because I just heard it.

oh

Kissing up to the Skeet at the bottom of the page there, eh?

There was something in the swag warehouse generically labeled "box" and we sent it to someone and it turned out to be just a shipping box, not really its own special piece of swag. (No disrespect intended, blue box.)

That's not a bad story!
note to self: do not hire Pops to gauge story goodness

And here I had visions of Dr. Who @Pops

7:34 PM
@Pops Hahah, luckily mine came complete with Arqade swag. :P

Pffft. If Stack Exchange had a TARDIS, I would have told you the same story while making immediate plans to travel to the swag warehouse.
To be fair, Dr. Who is one of the pieces of geek culture I've completely bypassed. I'm not against it, I've just never experienced it at all. Okay, let the flaming begin.

I've not only bypassed it, I've actively stayed away from it.

I should flood R&D will LGBT relationship questions right away. xP Ha

Hey, as long as they're good questions, go for it.

Nah, I'd personally not throw my entire dating life out on an SE site.
However dramatic it is.

7:39 PM
@jmac what do you think of automatically protecting questions that collect a lot of answers from low-rep users in a short period of time?

LGBT always makes me laugh. I had a birthday party once where someone asked "What does LGBT stand for" and one of them started their response with "Ehm ... Lettuce ... "
BLT ... LGBT ... same thing

Lettuce Garlic Bacon and Tomato?
Some people really like garlic.

I would have loved to wait for his full response, but he was corrected pretty rapidly.

@animuson See, until you said that, I would have had no idea that you were basing your questions on personal experience.

I based most of my questions on The Workplace on real experiences...
Those make the best questions.

7:42 PM
These are sites where I expect to see both "I'm posting this for a friend" and "I'm posting this for 'a friend'" a lot.

One sec, I need to go post a bunch of questions for a friend...

How terrible did I do?
gtg

Undo... UNDO!!

8:14 PM
@Undo no face, -1 :D
@Bart maybe Laszlo Got Bart (and) Tim?

I'm sure I would remember that @ShadowWizard

any 10k rep around that can judge a java answer? stackoverflow.com/a/21288979/578411
I think it is fine
but my java knowledge is .
gone
and I want to keep it that way

@rene don't think we need Java skills to judge rough quality... this appears to be a fair answer, unless its author explain in a comment why it's bad can't see any valid reason to delete it.

@ShadowWizard how do you vote for undelete on that answer?

Oh... might need 20K for this

8:27 PM
Yeah i gess

10K give you power over questions, not answers

Where're all the high reps when we need them? ;)

I'll leave it then to the 20k-ers and tnx for the support.

Sure thing!

8:29 PM
listening...

8:46 PM
That answer is now undeleted. Does that user needs to get a comment what to do if the answer shoud really be nuked and never return? or do we wait how things evolve?
never mind Robert Harvey got it already

Any mods around?
Is it possible to merge posts? That is, take answers from one question and merge it with answers from another question?

@Werner It is possible, mod only as you say.

@hichris123 What would be the typical procedure to request this, other than flag for moderator attention and "suggest it".

3
Q: Merging questions

SkeithMy question was closed as a duplicate of another question I also asked, this explains it for those that care. How many times can I ask the same question? How can I merge these questions so they are one question ?

you basically ask a question on meta

@rene Thanks, there's always a meta question for it. :P

9:03 PM
is any mod around?
@Flexo @BoltClock @ThiefMaster could someone unplonk me on SO chat?

> This user has been automatically suspended for posting inappropriate content and cannot chat for 27 minutes.
You'll get auto-unbanned in 27 minutes.

@hichris123 the whole point of me coming here is not wanting to wait 27 minutes

Well, why did you get banned in the first place?

@Pops because someone found it necessary to flag my "fuck you" message

Well out of context, that seems reasonable. Got a link?

9:12 PM
@Pops was a reply to this
it's not like me and that guy get along very well
OTOH, come on.

That's not enough of a clearly wrong decision by the flaggers for me to override the room. The ban's already halfway over, anyways.

sigh
I guess JS room isn't as mature as the lounge when it comes to this.

Oh, @Pops, I have a question for you: do I need to attribute SE if I'm scraping the number of questions in the CV queue and making a graph of it because of CC-BY?

Mmm. That's not a user contribution, so... I'm gonna say no.
You're always welcome to attribute anyways, if you feel like it.

Okay, thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to cross any legal boundries.

9:39 PM
@rene Thanks!

@hichris123 that's arguably fair use (not that SE would be likely to come after you for copying a number anyway)

@Pëkka Heh, true. :P

9:53 PM
But whatever you do, don't use 12. 12 is mine and I will sue.

@Bart If the CV queue ever gets down to 12... I invite you to sue me. *not valid after 1-23-2014.

/me heads over to the CV queue to empty it

You're not a mod. :P

@Pëkka Sounds like a challenge!

@Pops As long as you don't come after me for telling the truth about the rising CV queue numbers, I'm fine. :P

10:05 PM
In almost 24 hours that queue went from 107.7K to 108.3K

The thing about the close queue I think people are avoiding saying but are thinking - it doesn't really matter.
Closing questions that don't get answers anyway is rather meaningless anyway. The only case that's very helpful is duplicates.

@rene Me has all of the data behind it. :P
@BenjaminGruenbaum Meh, that's kinda like saying we should keep all the unanswerable crap around on the site. Closing is the step before deletion.

@hichris123 the problem with unanswerable crap is that it takes visibility from good questions - not that it takes memory in the SE servers.
If it doesn't take visibility - it's much much less important imo.

That's basically what I'm saying. However, do you really want there to be crappy questions just laying around, since no one wanted to deal with it?

@hichris123 To be completely fair - I don't really think dealing with unclosed but should be closed questions that don't get any visibility anyway should be a priority.

10:18 PM
Don't you love MySQL?

You spelled MySQL wrong

@rene Huh?

It is MSSQL...

I'm actually using MySQL, not MSSQL. mysql.com

@rene ^ What do you think? :P

That dip is the aging script?

Yeah.

Is this the last 24 hours?

@rene Ish. Give or take 2 hours.
22 hours

about 2 hours before the aging script we had the close vote review event, with just three present. I don't see any siginficant drop there :-(
we need more close voters

10:37 PM
@rene Just gimme a 800 rep bounty. :P

Pffft. So I go to the Close Votes review queue and it gives me an audit the first time. The system apparently does not want me to help decrease the size. Sorry.

@animuson welcome to the club :-)

@animuson Careful not to get yourself review banned! ;)

Or it doesn't trust mods. Wise thing, that Close Votes queue.
@ShadowWizard He could just unban himself. :P

I passed it, at least.

Yep
lol

Yeah, though its not a "private beta". I can still make an account, without commiting.

10:41 PM
@hichris123 only if you know how
Google for one can't index it yet

Huh. Didn't know. But the A51 linky is pretty obvious... :P

@hichris123 wasn't obvious to me until a week ago

Joe
curious. Why doesn't this chat room show up when you search for chat rooms associated with meta.stackoverflow.com ?

@Joe On chat.SE?
@ShadowWizard I'll give you that, but if you click on the A51 proposal then it's obvious.

This is way too broad. You'd really need to narrow down the subject here to have a more definitive question. This is like asking "Could I ever become President?" Well, possibly. There is a lot of other stuff that plays into it, though. — animuson 38 secs ago

10:46 PM
Well, there's no "share" links in private beta

Joe
@hichris123 Yep, click on 'more sites', type meta.stackove... and it shows you just one poor chat room

@animuson Huh. I can get into that without an account. :P
@Joe mSO and SO aren't on chat.SE. They have their own sites. Though lemme look.

@ShadowWizard oh cool I didn't know you were from Israel

Hmm, I don't know @Joe.

Ug, do people really have to post 3 self promoting answers (spam), and the site name is their username?

@ShadowWizard yeah, I just didn't realize it. I'm working in Tel Aviv when I'm not sick :)
Also, I see you mostly on meta, and I'm usually on chat in SO - so I can see why we wouldn't really get to chat much.

@BenjaminGruenbaum "when not sick" means you're sick a lot, right? And yeah, I found my place in Meta and go hunting on SO when hungry ;)

@ShadowWizard I'm actually sick now for the first time in ~4 years. It sucks but at least my wife is sick too so I wasn't bored. For the last few days (until yesterday) I didn't get out of bad and mobile SO chat sucks :)
So what do you do?

@Pops they would never dare. They would totally chicken out.

@Pops any update on the chat flags thing?
