@JourneymanGeek being broken is one problem, missing because of a bug is a different issue, never been a thing is yet something else.
I can't recall ever been able to flag your own comments.
yep, so I was just my memory playing tricks.
good to know.
@SPArcheon Its a bit of an afterthought :S
08:25
If it helps, I do recall being able to flag my own comments.
No, that's totally unhelpful XD
2012 request, 2021 request... doubt it was possible in the meantime :P
08:45
I am nothing but helpful.
09:14
Why do people still post that garbage?
09:56
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact Cause its easy, and they figure no one would notice/care
if its a spammer, its an additional automation step
It makes perfect sense if you don't really care about quality

So... the hyphen site (Yes, they are still around) paid Toms hardware to put a hit piece on on stack exchange tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/…
> Experts Exchange takes a stand against AI-creep by blocking companies from scraping content and data from its community
Isn't this just what they've been doing anyway for, like, a decade?
So, not really related to AI.
OK, sorry, I meant "more than a decade".
> Some companies that hold the communities most frequently targeted for LLM-scraping are gleefully partnering with AI companies, selling out their communities and betraying the creators behind their vast databases of knowledge.
links to SE's twitter announcment about tying up with openAI
I mean part of me is like "guys, we exist because you messed up 15 years ago"
but also "maybe we're stumbling into the same mistakes"
BUT SE's also not putting paid hit pieces out
@JourneymanGeek you know that thing about the clock that loses one second each day and the one that is just broken right?
lol
Now, if they'd posted it on their blog, I'd probably have had mad respect :D
and honestly, I respect the sheer level of snark, spite and salt here
The broken clock is right twice in a day, while the other will have to wait 43200 days (about 120 years)
@JourneymanGeek I will point out that speaking of anime I would probably prefer the usual "Vegeta" character that starts bad and then joins the heroes than the good guy that then backstabs the main character in the new season....
14:08
I think its more "Somehow the emperor returned"
probably because I prefer to see things getting better than someone turning them to mold.
I mean, as far as SE goes, certainly
@JourneymanGeek does badmouthing individuals on online press and making their lives worse so that you can look like the "Shining Knight In White Armor For Equality&Inclusion" count? -_-
Well no, they're mess ups
also, I can't imagine them competently doing paid hit pieces, I've read their blogs sometimes
@JourneymanGeek At least the other site is just being snarky and the target is a legal entity
14:12
@SPArcheon I mean, they succeeded in reminding me they still exist
it is not worse than the official "congratulation" twitter post Sega made on Mighty #9 release.
I somehow don't think this will end in a good natured social media war between the hypen site, SE and codidact
well it'll not end up in an ill tempered one either :D
14:36
@JourneymanGeek The full cast looking around in dismay, shocked over the quality of the script
@JourneymanGeek Somewhere in the multiverse there is a timeline where Prosus bought Expert Exchange and Stack is a no-profit living on community donations.
Maybe a better timeline :D
I said nothing
The ponies are whispering
15:27
@starball error: missing /
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact normally this would have received a very specific response but... that guy proved very tired of its own dreams now and even somehow toxic as he hated the ones who came after him, the same he praised when there was money to be made by signing an anniversary collector edition...
so, it gets nothing instead
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact quietly?
16:01
btw, @JourneymanGeek you also missed this part
> Some Q&A companies put strict limits in place on how users can interact with their content after it has been submitted. This prevents users from deleting questions or removing their answers if they do not want their contributions used to train large language models. Experts Exchange doesn’t have this problem, because the company is committed to blocking and prohibiting AI companies from scraping content to train large language models

Q: How can a user unhappy with the LLM partnerships protest constructively (and ideally- effectively)?

starballI'm more asking this on behalf* of the many people I see trying to express protest to the OpenAI partnership in ways that get themselves into trouble: Deleting their own posts- individual or en masse Defacing/vandalizing their own posts- subtly or non-subtly The result of doing those things is ...

and the preceding flood of users asking how they could delete their contributions.
@SPArcheon All I wonder is who that guy is.
@ShadowWizard No, with much noise.
As if deleting questions helped... I mean, there is plenty of literature about LLM poisoning. Learn how to make your text harmful to the LLM instead.
@SPArcheon they linked a mastodon thread of one unhappy user 😅
Humans should be able to read your contributions even after a few well placed zero width spaces or homoglyph. Sacrifice accessibility, join the rebellion :P
@SPArcheon @Mithical will hate you for that.
16:10
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact I say that we should start posting all answers as images instead.
@SPArcheon You are really trying to make enemies today. :P
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact arxiv.org/abs/2310.02401
I am quite intrigued to see if there are similar ways to craft text that will decrease the train model quality and introduce hallucinations.
Lucky enough my writing style is already very Pinkie, so god save the souls of the crazy ones using that..
btw, this may or may not be a way to tell a certain dog that despite his deleted comment, it is possible to "poison" a training model. :P
16:37
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact ^ this
oh, nice. I never realized that Prosus was also an investor in Tencent of all thing.
maybe they could make a partnership and let you buy stuff in Brawl Stars with Stack rep.
17:22
@SPArcheon the other day I looked it up, and apparently 40 percent of my body is owned by Tencent

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact terrible.
@M.A.R. all your bones?

@JourneymanGeek Why do responses to Smokey's fun commands get moved to Chimney?

2 hours later…
23:26
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog cause the more complete cleanup script hates fun

23:44
@JourneymanGeek Is there a GitHub repository to contribute code to the cleanup script? I don't think it should be hating fun.
I don't remember, its one of those things that's been sitting in my computer forever :D
but it gets the stuff Glorfindel's one misses
