@rene I noticed your comment here. It might be a good idea to have that first "Meta" be "Meta Stack Exchange", given the increasing confusion between MSE and Facebook (now "Meta").

@Makyen I'm ... not sure that will fit. IIRC I've had versions of that comment that were tool long by 6 to 8 characters. I'll prep a PR of the lost soul script.

@rene Yeah, fitting it in there might be a challenge, but it seems the confusion level of wayward users is only going to increase over time as the "Meta" name becomes more synonymous with "Facebook". It would probably be good for us to do what we can to preemptively address it, at least a little bit.

Welcome to Meta! Sorry, but your friend request won't be accepted here. Consider searching for other social media that may accept your request.

@rene Thanks for taking a look at it.

How about:
Hi Makyen, welcome to the Stack Exchange Network Meta site! I'm not sure which search brought you here but the problem you describe will not be answered on this specific site. To get an experts answer for the topic of your question you'll have to find and then re-post on the proper site. Check How do I ask a good question and What is on topic on the target site to make sure your post is in good shape.
Your question is definitely off-topic on Meta and is better deleted here.

That seems better. Thanks.

that is 573 chars, with your relative short name in it

That should give 33 characters for usernames, which should be enough for most, but, obviously, not all.

@rene nitpick: experts -> expert's
One less character available... :'(
More broad critique of the message, now that I'm re-reading it (and unrelated to the PR): I think the instruction to have the user check the help center for the target site is likely needed, however it's quite roundabout. We link to the help center for our current site, but then instruct that the user needs to check them on the target site, when it's quite possible they won't know where that is.
We don't have any real alternative, though.

@Spevacus I assume @Glorfindel will do proof reading before merging .... thanks!
@Spevacus yeah, you would hope they notice what the help center looks like and then go look for that same thing once they picked a better site. Can't help them if they go to reddit ....

:)

Look man, not everyone is perfect.
So what if I'm ugly
