Congratulations Ethereum community! We’re going to be creating a custom site design for you that we hope will represent your subject and we want you all to really love it. You’ve been waiting almost 5 years and we really want to do this well. To facilitate this, we’re reaching out now to ask you ...
Looks like they already limited the scope of the customization
> We'll be able to create a logo, background colors, and textures in addition to your logo - but please don't expect illustrations like what you may have seen on some of the older site designs.
By "error images" below, I mean the images used on each site for the 404 Not Found page, the 500 server error page, and the captcha page. I'll admit that I'm a bit biased as I strongly believe that each site should have its own, unique set of error images, as they add a certain level of charm to ...
can't see the original of https://superuser.com/questions/1721968 (not enough rep), anyone able to fetch a screen shot or copy/paste of the edit history?
Y'all - if you have questions about the site design stuff, feel free to ask here on MSE but I'd really rather you weren't leaving semi-hostile comments on the individual site posts.
@SonictheSaveUkraine-hog but it's not her fault that happened - it's not really helpful at this point to make that a point in the design process. We're creating site designs now - maybe focus on that?
@JourneymanGeek of being a mod, there's constant stream of new users, naturally some would be nasty at some point. You can suspend, but more will come.
@JourneymanGeek Sonic is quoting a question about a new site design from one of the designers - hint. There's currently seven of them and I wrote the post because I'm the one supporting the project.
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar I'm slightly less pessimistic but thought it was further down the line
@Catija I mean, this is a very positive thing but I didn't know this :D
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar In theory I could suspend them all, but I'd be running through keyboards like no one's business...
But the broader issue is a mix of a sense of entitlement (and admittedly SE's kinda not lived up to expectations in the past) and a certain disconnect between the folks building things, and the folks using it (work in progress fixing?)
@Luuklag The layoffs really don't have anything to do with it - we revamped the entire layout of the network in 2018, which included having to redesign a bunch of sites, we also have actually created a handful of site designs since then (Code Golf and Anime at least)... the difference is that we now specifically have staff who have dedicated time to pick up where we left off.
But I guess I don't really think it's fair to ask a designer to answer for the layoffs in 2017 - I understand that's maybe not your intention but... it feels like a really pointed and direct comment that's kinda... I don't know. My point is, you can ask the question "are all of the sites that don't have designs going to get one?" without being so upfront about the layoff stuff. :)
There's been a few attempts to get back to the themes over the years but we just haven't had the staffing to do it, particularly not to the scale that the backlog indicates. That's what happened with Code Golf (which went pretty well) and Anime (which ended up having to get farmed out to a contractor)... and I think they got stymied again at that point... Honestly, I think Philippe's put in a lot of work to get this moving again. :)
While I get to be the one supporting it, he was the person figuring out how to get time from the design team for it. :D
@Luuklag Okay, I don't know how hard you kick your walls but back when I had my own steel-toed boots, wall kicking wasn't painfull at all (and a great outlet!)
@Luuklag Well I am the guy... I'm horrible at anything DIY. I can do crochet, or embroidery, or all those finer crafts... but give me some wood, a hammer, nails and a saw, and whatever I manage to make is horrible XD
@MetaAndrewT. apparently I was too quick to mention this since the Ethereum.SE meta post was the newest among network-wide meta posts at the time I posted this. Apologize for being possibly misleading... (the earliest was German.SE)

Ethereum has the highest-traffic among non-designed sites (15K visits/day). German has 1.7

Sciences, ranked by SE popularity (traffic in kilovisits per day): 1. Mathematics 122 (+10 from MathOverflow) 2. Statistics 58 3. Physics 25 4. Chemistry 6 5. Computer Science 5 (+0.7 from TCS) Then a steep dropoff to Astronomy, Biology, Economics, Earth... each with about 1 or less.
@VoteDukakis well, people would do a lot to have chance to become rich. And virtual coins that are actual money sounds to many like easy gain, so they try to learn how to get it.
Most fail, naturally, and thus empower the machine.
It's one gigantic pyramid, now way too late to stop it.
I've put meta.stackexchange.com/a/342669/622284 in a table. Someone more markdown-savvy may want to clean it up. Or, someone who has a knack for making things look prettier might want to touch it up.
