@MetaAndrewT. DoOBA - Denial of OneBox Attack
hmm... "dooba"... lol... @Mith is the only other one who might understand why it's funny... :D
@M.A.R. no, the other Steve.
@M.A.R. that's your cat, from the future.
@Tinkeringbell and when they drive a big truck, they might kill many people when they lose control over the truck due to speeding. :(
IMO such drivers are no less than killers, and should spend lifetime in jail, or even better, executed. They do not deserve to live.
Speeding on purpose just for the fun of it is the same as playing with loaded gun, just for the fun of it. And when bullet is shot, even if by mistake, and kills someone, it's a murder.
And now to happier thngs!

thought you could use a refill

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar I'm not fond of executing, and life in jail is very expensive. Forced labor? :P
Something that benefits society as a whole, perhaps. Treadmills, green energy? :P

7:47 AM
@tink very off-topic question to smash: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/378798/…

@Tinkeringbell ban them from driving?

@Luuklag Gone :)

And bright purple vests?
thogh

@JourneymanGeek That is of course another option, though as a pedestrian they can be just as much a danger on the road :P

7:49 AM
@JourneymanGeek That's kinda mean though, kindergartners wear those too when being transported, and they're not criminals yet!

Yes!
Its only a matter of time before they become part of the criminal element!
(I mean same idea who.Make em obvious so can't miss em)
we do however put bright yellow vests on people cleaning up for community service

Hmm. I still don't know if that satisfies the wish for vengeance enough though. You made sure another person can never enjoy the world again, and you get to enjoy the world but only with a purple vest?

If the vest is ugly enough, no one will miss what you have done

So, you want to rely on social stigma or something? Bad service in restaurants, and supermarkets refusing you entry?

@Luuklag oh wow double mocha! Now I have too much energy! :P

7:55 AM
@Tinkeringbell \o/
No jail, no execution, no embarassment..
What can we do?

@Tinkeringbell hmm sadly those are both good points, and worthy of serious discussion at some point. ;(

Make them talk to my boss?

I'd go with self sustaining jail, probably.

@JourneymanGeek Oh no, the embarassment can work, but it should come with more than just embarassment... like it should severely limit 'enjoyment' :P

Prisoners work to pay the jail's expenses, etc.
Kind of forced labor, thinking about it. lol

7:56 AM
naggy ankle braclet that yells at you when you do stupid things?
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar US private prisons do stuff like that, its abusive

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar This might work, but before you know it the prison is better than outside life :P Work in the garden for a bit in the morning so you have your meals, and be a couch potato for the rest XD :P
While others slave away 40 hours or more a week in corporate jobs and can barely make ends meet :P

@JourneymanGeek part of the punishment, so fair IMO.

@Tinkeringbell not all places have cushy prisons
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar They also encourage local law enforcement to incarcerate

@Tinkeringbell exactly! :D

@JourneymanGeek Free trip for convicted criminals, to those places! :D

7:58 AM
@JourneymanGeek to what? Didn't understand...
too lazy to Google...
@Luuklag what makes it "very"? Actually on first glance it was somewhat spammy, but probably just lost soul.

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar basically you make money by prisoners, so you want more, so you get the local police to arrest more people...
then keep them as cheaply as possible and make more money

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar well it wasn't on-topic, not even anywhere else on the network

@JourneymanGeek ohhh, yeah that's really bad. Must have tons of layers that check for those things in order to make it be just and fair.

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar also OP had one of the sites they mentioned on their profile
Smited

@Luuklag as about 80% of the MSE occasional off topic questions, yeah. ;)

@tripleee gone but why didn't Smokey report it?

IIRC it only triggered experimental reasons, so it was only reported in Charcoal
most of the ones I report manually here are like that

@tripleee hmm there was link in end of the question, I do see lots of those here. Weird.

there's a dot after the link so it's not strictly at the end

@Luuklag huh? What's that? Never seen it used.

8:36 AM
perhaps the rule should be adapted but OTOH it's rather FP-prone anyway

I know k, f, and naa

rude/abusive
basically just an alias for tpu (IIRC)

@tripleee ohh. lol
@tripleee yeah, registered in MS as tpu-
"k" is much shorter though.

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar but also less specific
@tripleee you might want to clean up the comments metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/366282

ouch, thanks for noticing

8:55 AM
@Luuklag k

2 hours later…
11:04 AM
are Ubuntu spam posts unwelcome here? There was a recent one which was not reported here but I guess that was on purpose
hmm, looking at rooms.yml looks to me like only Stack Overflow is exempt, and then a bunch of moderately FP-prone reasons

11:25 AM
@tripleee no idea, and wasn't aware it can be excluded per-site.

3 hours later…

hmm I can see @curious @nobody ;-)

Did you mean to ping me?

@nobody well, I did! ;)
What's up?

2:39 PM
hmm

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar exams... that I'm not prepared for.

3:00 PM
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar This is now fixed :)
!!/tea Shadow

3:29 PM
@nobody ouch. Been there, usually ended in not-so-good grades. Good luck!
Which exams, if I may ask?
@KevinB is it up?
@Spevacus huh???
!!/bleh
But they never even admitted there's a bug, I'm sure I told about it at least three times, every time someone said "nah there's no bug that's how it always was". meh.
Well, until it breaks again. :D

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Unsure if it was mentioned in here, but the SOCVR folks noticed it, and Ryan M posted a comment towards the bottom that delete commands weren't working as well.
All happy now tho :D

@Spevacus yeah it was mentioned by yours truly, several times.

Well, it's never really been prioritized. They are a bit busy with the spam barrage on SO, to be fair.

@Spevacus it's not about prioritized, it's about acknowledging there was a bug to begin with. But again, it's not SE, it's not like something terrible happened, so all is good.

@nobody the number kind, or the alphabet kind?

5:15 PM
@Tinkeringbell both
Its mostly the damned integration that worries me

I'll be no help then. Unless it's the Pythagorean theorem ;)

Yeah I never really got past differentiation. Nailed the universities statistics course though (it was open book and the only thing I did wrong was forget a calculator so one of my answers was off by one :( )
Integration isn't something they teach in highschool math here, as far as I remember

Open book and calculator allowed? What were they testing you for then?

(and I never did any after that)
@nobody knowing which principle/theory to apply when

5:19 PM
That's always the easy part for me
Well it was university statistics, so probably more complicated then the statistics I've done till now.

Well the people making you remember those theories are the people who make math unnecessarily difficult imo. Its like a car: I know the dashboard lights explanation is in the manual, and I know to check the manual if strange lights stay lit...
No need for me to remember every single light and how to fix them!
@nobody Not really, it was for archaeologists ;) if you're already doing integration you can probably survive that statistics class easily ;)

Well, to be fair, you should know some of the lights atleast, or else you won't know if you need to pull over if one lights up when you're on the highway

@nobody you can always pull over though, and check!

But that's annoying! I don't want to pull over unless absolutely necessary :P

Then you need to learn all the relevant lights ;) still, there are plenty that you can ignore (if only for a little while)

5:26 PM
Yeah. Read the manual once and figure out which ones are important, then just remember those.

But okay, bad analogy but you really don't get any resources on exams? We used to have some even in high school, just to help with formulas and stuff.

We do have calculators of course
Trigonometry is impossible without them (and alot of other stuff too)
But that's all
Is there any way to search through all my comments on a particular site?
Except for SEDE, I barely know any SQL

@nobody ask a mod.. but otherwise I don't think so.

Dang. Nowhere near important enough to bother a mod.

Isn't there a SEDE where you can just fill in some blanks? That's what I usually look for as I don't know much SQL either

5:36 PM
So you know a bit? I thought you weren't a tech person...

5:47 PM
@nobody I know a bit. I program for a living ;) I'm not a tech person though :P

oh, ok. I didn't realize you were a programmer :)

i mean, there's only one party being toxic as far as i can see
whoops
this isn't the chat i meant to click on

@KevinB toxic?

toxic
yea

It's the tech person, right?

@KevinB I initially thought you were accusing me of misogyny :D

it's an SO Meta thing

@nobody if he was, I'd have kicked his butt for being patronizing ;)

@nobody "Post on Math.SE" is missing from the flowchart.

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar I always imagine people typing tpu- as doing a long-range spit

pls cna i how to interrogate dx/dt = dt/dx

> Over 50 per cent of Brits admit they don't know what many of the buttons on their car's dashboard does
> More than 62 per cent have no idea what it means when a warning light or sound goes off in their vehicle
> A quarter are unable to find the fog lights button, reset the clock or locate the lever to open the bonnet

8:28 PM
@DavidPostill Hmm... I must admit I would have to look for the fog lights (but I know the general lights thing, it's not a button but a dial for me, I bet fog lights are there too). Resetting the clock would be one of those thing in the manual... and while I thing I know it now, I did use the manual to look up the levers to open the bonnet twice XD
> 14 per cent have needed to fill up on petrol, but when pulling into a petrol station have completely forgotten what side their fuel cap is on.
At least I know that one, the dashboard has an indicator XD
> while 16 per cent have been left embarrassed by being unable to unlock the doors to let passengers in - and 15 per cent haven't ever been able to work out how to put the rear-view windscreen wipers on.

OMG are you telling me Brits are clueless too

No problems there, though I do keep forgetting that the doors lock automatically so I need to unlock it when picking up friends XD
@M.A.R. Just a bit more than half of them.

We may drive like maniacs in getaway cars here but we can locate our fuel cap
I think?

I also did put the thing in semi-automatic once, then wondered why it wasn't making speed XD
@M.A.R. I have one of those indicators. Mom keeps thinking it means the fuel tank is almost empty XD

Her glass is half empty

8:33 PM
Like that, and then the fuel meter isn't a circle but a bar, with this thing near the bottom XD
> Yet 16 per cent say that despite this, they've never consulted their handbook to try and better understand how their vehicle works.
I mean, I didn't either, unless I needed to know. I'm not the 'read manuals for fun' type of gal.

I need to have a word with the prolific 15 percent that show up on everything

Yeah, I guess those don't have much of a life :P

> 15 percent said they lick their fridge instead of putting water there

I don't think that's very car related, which article about Brits are you reading now?

Maybe it's by a clueless Brit

8:36 PM
Still, link?

Oh it was a self-quote so it made my joke more authoritative

Ah.
Boring :P

And if you think jokes don't need authority don't go to China
@Tinkeringbell clowns are all dead inside
I mean I haven't checked
There'd probably be cotton

How would you check though... I doubt you'd get permission

Q: How can I figure out which side of the car the gas hatch is on (without getting out)?

JaydlesAs a longtime New York City resident, I've never owned a car. I drive fairly regularly, though, thanks to rentals, Zipcars, and the kindness of relatives and other not-quite-strangers. Since much of my driving is done in cars I've never been in before, I frequently found myself pulling into a ...

Among others, hairboat objected:

user302202
I downvoted because this isn't a hack; it's an indicator made for this exact purpose... and it only works if you're driving a car that has this arrow. Not all of 'em do. — hairboat Dec 22, 2014 at 18:40

@VoteDukakis I agree with the comment.

> I upvoted this comment because i agree with it

9:31 PM
@Tinkeringbell I drive in semi-automatic mode all the time. Gives me finer control over my speed.
99% of new combustion cars sold here have paddle shifters
Also, some cars (e.g. the Aston Martin Lagonda) actually came with dual fuel fillers, so you could fuel the same tank regardless of which side you park on.

does the fuel indicator just have two arrows in that case?

@KevinB "same tank"

right

And, of course, semi trucks have dual tanks, so a fueling space actually has two pumps, one on each side

but without an indicator it's ambiguous
it could be dual, or just lacking an indicator

9:35 PM
It doesn't have one. It doesn't have gauges either; it has CRT screens instead of gauges

@SonictheSaveUkraine-hog my brain refuses to handle manual and semi automatic anymore so I have to drive around like a (mentally) disabled driver. It sucks.

@Tinkeringbell Yeah, I'm very different: I pay attention to the RPM and to road conditions, plus I try to consume less fuel. I'm in a deep minority here; you'd fit in quite well here where automatic is typical and highways are significantly less mentally taxing.
The same fate is also beginning to befall my uncle who lives in the UK

@SonictheSaveUkraine-hog it's (usually, if there are no murder attempts while on it) not the highway that's a problem. It's getting on there. I know all the steps just somehow I don't allow myself to follow them. It's not a simple matter of paying attention or wanting to be fuel efficient, it's knowing I can do something because I did it for ages but now I just won't let myself

9:51 PM
i gave up on trying to conserve fuel after doing so for a week resulted in roughly the same awful gas mileage in my truck
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sometimes you're already doing everything right ;)

hovers between 13.8 and 14.5, per gallon, meaning i use about 1.5 gallons a day, or, $6.30 a day, 5 days a week,
switching to remote work would be a raise

In other news, I'm finally replacing my original 2012 Surface with a new Surface Go 3
