Someone might be terrible in chat, but still give good posts, or be helpful in other ways, like reviewing.
That said, I believe that in extreme cases, moderators can decide to suspend user on the main site based on chat activity. I even think it happened, by mistake, to @forest a while ago.
However it's not automatic, the mod need to manually suspend on the main site.
In chat, it would usually be posting extreme NSFW stuff, or being really really nasty.
@nobody CM and mods are same when it comes to suspension, i.e. they follow the same rules.
I even tried to ask about suspended user once when it was odd they got suspended via email to a CM that I used to email before, and got expected reply that this can't be discussed.
@nobody also, you can't know it's just because of chat, that user might have done something bad on the site itself, and you can't see it. Only if you contact that user directly you can know, assuming of course they'll tell the truth.
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Extremely unlikely. I see most things that happen on site, and I know that user too, they don't do any sort of questionable stuff on site
@nobody look, people can just "lose it" sometimes. It happens to the best.
So when it happens while they are in chat on on SE site, we tell them to cool down, take some time off, and come back when things calm down.
And it can be something totally different, no way to know. And if mistake, that user can contact SE staff (contact us form) and they'll handle it, nothing we should or can do.
I was chat banned once, when taking jokes too far, and I deserved it. Luckily no site suspension so far. :)
@MetaAndrewT. I'm now curious, say I suggest an improvement or request clarification, and end the long comment w/ thanks, is that also one-flag deletable?
Not sure. @Journeyman you happen to know? If there's a comment with a blocklisted word like "accept" or "thanks" and it also has upvote(s), will a single flag delete it?
Anyway, on second thought not sure why using sock for this, but here's the test comment:
This is a test to see if comment with thanks is insta removed when it has upvotes, but need upvotes to test it. Thanks! +1 and don't accept it. ;) — Shadow-of-the-Shadow's-Shadow47 secs ago
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Welcome to Tavern on the Meta @rene! I'm SmokeDetector, a bot that detects spam and offensive posts on the network, and posts alerts to chat. You can find more about me on the Charcoal website.
@ymb1 if the last comment from the user has already been deleted from the post before your comment is posted, then I believe it shouldn't ping the user (the only way to avoid getting pinged on that post anymore)... unless the user is the OP or had done a moderation action single-handedly (e.g. edit/dupe-hammer)
@ymb1 afaik no, the check is done when submitting the comment, if there's no matching reply with that name no notification is created. But as we just saw, can be wrong. ;(
hmm Smokey bugged? There's no linked punctuation ^
ohh OP edited
Dunno then, spammer won't edit spam out.
Anyone else has MSE load terribly slow now? (20 seconds each page)
@MetaAndrewT. and @ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar: my thinking is deleted comments aren't really deleted, e.g. mods can still see them (right?), so maybe, just maybe, the notification would work
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar It happened to me because I hotlinked an image from an IB that apparently really doesn't like hotlinking, so it replaced the image with a shock image, but I couldn't see that because it was cached on my end. Then I got suspended from chat and posted it on MSE asking what was so offensive about it lmfao
