@rene yes this helped! :P
@JourneymanGeek some worms eat big things

7:56 AM
o/

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 SHAI HALUD!

@JourneymanGeek that's a royal worm
Hope the second Dune part will give it more respect and focus, showing us their full glory. :D

8:48 AM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 lol yup
I wonder where they would end it tho

9:14 AM
suspicious chat flags on the other chat site.

9:28 AM
Seems handled
There's nothing pending anymore, at least

@Tinkeringbell yep, probably. May be worth investigating more because of the specific user involved.

I had a look at the transcript and they didn't seem the wrongdoers this time.
there may be some undeserved hate at work there.

To be honest, I don't really care. Maybe someone else will want to do a thorough investigation and waste more time on that specific user though.

old post, off-topic to my understanding, voted to close but is there something more I can or should do? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/300294/is-the-jekyll-blog-dead

Kinda cool/interesting situation: Voted to delete this question which had a delete vote from ChrisF before he became a moderator here. Following, the post is now considered moderator-deleted and I can't vote to undelete it (which is fine, not like I wanted to, just interesting)

@tripleee Why is it off-topic?
It's about the blog.
Answered by a then-staff-member.

@Spevacus sounds like an accurate case of checking permissions

oh sorry, my bad, I thought they were asking about the Github thing called Jekyll

Mmmm appears something is broken:
[02-Nov-2021 10:16:33 Europe/Amsterdam] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'Could not connect to the FTP server' thrown in /home/id212553/domains/milieumeetlat.nl/public_html/system/libraries/FTP.php on line 104
in my site, so no longer got access to the CMS :/

2:04 PM
still up: one (MS) two (MS) three (MS) four (MS) ...

... five (MS) Bitcoin spam posts (SD report)(
oh nvm then (-:

@Mithical first 2 are gone now

@Mithical Got rid of the last of the ones in this message.

2:10 PM
(thumbsup)

Bit satisfying to cast the last flag on 3 or 4 in a row

Charcoal could probably use some new members; things are taking a lot longer to be nuked. If you know anyone who'd be interested in fighting spam, send them over in that direction.

@tripleee want me to pin something like that in here for a few days?

2:25 PM
@Mithical excellent, thanks
I was thinking people are taking a few weeks off to plan their new year promises but it's not like we don't appreciate additional volunteers regardless, especially folks who are familiar with the sites

...aaaaand I hit the flag button while pinning it. *facepalm*

Might work best if it's not flagged :P

Eira May on January 10, 2022
Nearly two years into the pandemic, many Americans are reevaluating their relationship with work.

@Feeds Oh... this is not about people finally resigning to the fact that there's a pandemic and following the rules, keeping everyone safe?!

2:53 PM
@Tinkeringbell lol. I wish I could quit my job 😅

I've resigned to the fact that you can't :P

I'm moving to a new state and I'm planning on continuing to work at this place remote... If they let me (I've asked and should hear back today, if it doesn't work out I've got some options ready) but also monetary compensation is a bit of a sticking point. I'm not being paid what my previous colleagues are being paid now since they moved out of state and all.
My workplace has not been great about trying to get us (the software team) to work remote, and it's been a bit frustrating especially as we get folks who know they're sick coming in and causing a COVID breakout.

Ugh that truly sucks! If I could, (can't, legal stuff), I'd quit working for this company someday and continue working for the current client. Just because there'd be less overhead then. But it wouldn't really be an improvement in benefits (just different ones, so they offset each other).

@Tinkeringbell How strange that your employer won't let you go work for their clients directly... Who would've expected that....

Yeah, weird huh :P

2:59 PM
: )

You got a Switch, if I recall right @tink?

At least they've been pretty okay-ish at keeping everyone safe so far. (though, there has been peer pressure to join e.g. bbq's)

a Nintendo one, that is

Yes :D
For the other kind of Switch, probably ask @JourneymanGeek ;)

We got ourselfs one for christmas too :)

3:00 PM
Nice, what have you been playing so far?

@Tinkeringbell Overcooked 2

Ooh, that's a fun one. Played the first one as well, we always ended up yelling at each other :D
It's a surprisingly difficult game to get everyone coordinating right.

Sounds fun, never played it myself (not big on the co-op games :|)

@Spevacus yeah I don't think there is a level we finished in the first go

Whatever free time I had this weekend was spent playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond

3:03 PM
@Tinkeringbell Yeah my wife and me like to play together, otherwise its just one person watching, which is kinda lame xD

Yeah, I can imagine co-ops are a bit more attractive when you're not the only person in the house/gaming :)

@Tinkeringbell yup

If you want another one that's kinda fun to play together, Stardew Valley might be nice. I played that one with a few online strangers a few times, and it's also one of those games where you can achieve a lot by coordinating properly :)

@Feeds I love how I identify with almost everything in this blog post: Burnout, the ability to make more money elsewhere, deserving better working conditions, wanting more vacation time, wanting a better work-life balance... I typically don't care much for the articles in the blog, but this one was a nice read overall.

who doesn't want more vacation time?! :D

3:11 PM
Well, more than two weeks, both of which are chosen for me would be nice. We have a company shutdown for a week in the summer. If you have not yet used a week of paid vacation by this point in the year, you are required to take it during that shutdown. Then, for Christmastime, you're required to take the last of your vacation then if you haven't yet used it.

Wow. Yeah that is very little
I have 5 weeks, 3 days to use at my discretion, + 2 days I can only use on set days. I still feel it's not enough XD

That's plenty more than the U.S. folks get, but that still does feel quite little.
2/3 weeks here is pretty common unless you're working a state/federal job.
Or are working at an actual nice company :)

If I could, I'd be working 3 or 4 days a week instead (then the vacation days would stretch further too! :P). Technically, I should already be able to manage 4 days financially. But that'd have negative consequences for the amount of retirement money I save up.

🚽

@Tinkeringbell sad but true.
Or until I burn out

3:15 PM
I'd love to work 4 days at 10 hours a day. It'd make planning stuff to do on the off days a lot easier.

Oh, no... just 4 days of 8 hours a day, with time for gaming in the evening :P
Or cleaning, lately.... :/

Hm... Stack Overflow's looking for Public Platform engineers. Not super experienced with ASP.Net, but maybe I should consider applying.

Would be cool if you managed to get through :)

I work 4,5 days of 8 hours which is full-time for us.

You lose every opportunity you don't try
Go for it
@Tinkeringbell I would be good with 8 hour days or less night shifts

3:19 PM
I feel like the barrier for entry would be higher than I can hop over. Worth a shot, though. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll look into it a bit later.

@Spevacus Just tell them you know users are desperate for more new features, so they really need to hire whatever comes their way :P

I'm a bit thinking about it too lately. This job is great in terms of flexibility and stuff, but not so great on the pay

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I think you fall under both burnout, wanting a better work-life balance, and perhaps also working conditions ;)

@Tinkeringbell I may or may not be familiar with a select crew of folks who'd love to see some attention thrown their way that I could certainly lend the time to help with. That said, I could see it being a bit daunting to wade into a situation where 1.) Folks have been wanting improvements to (x areas) for a long time and have very specific opinions about how those improvments should be done, and
2.) Not wanting to be on the receiving end of an unacceptable amount of backlash when I would (inevitably) get it wrong

I'm a bit doubtfull if I should persue a carreer in IT instead of AG, but I fell I don't know enough to do IT.

3:22 PM
@Spevacus I'm here to moderate 2 ;)

I've got fairly thick skin when it comes to getting told I did a bad when I did indeed do a bad, but it might suck a bit more when I try hard enough to get it right and I miss the mark by more than a reasonable amount. Less a blow to my feelings and more my confidence.
Thankfully, yes, I'd have awesome folks like you, Geek, Mithical, and the other Stack folks to look to for support ;D
But anyway, I think that's enough procrastinating on the job. I should go fix something now I think. /o/

@Luuklag You could always try one of those 'omscholingen'.
If you have affinity with IT, it shouldn't be too hard for you to get into one.
And they're always looking for people.
(Though, of course, that would mean you'd be without income for a little while perhaps, depending on the kind of 'omscholing')

@Tinkeringbell Yeah, but I can't afford being without income for more then a month or so.

Hmm. I could ask my brother which one he did, I think that one paid.
Might not be a full pay check, but getting paid something may mean you can take a few more months :)

What is this room?

3:34 PM
Why are you specifically addressing me?

4:18 PM
@Fmbalbuena there is a description to the top right, but you already know, you're far from being new to chat concept of SE. So I'm not sure what is your goal by asking.... anyway, hello!

5:17 PM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 I have a quesion

do you though

@KevinB Is this for asking questions, like Meta?

it's chat
it's for chatting

i mean this room

yes
it's just a general chat room

5:29 PM
Chatty noise

There are people here that are knowledgeable of the site and MSE, and therefore questions do sometimes get asked here, and sometimes even answered
but that's not necessarily it's purpose

6:04 PM
@Mithical Alas, 'tis the exam season
At least in a part of the world that consists of 1.1% of the population of the world
@Vickel Voluntarily removed by its author
Probably after a few flowery words sent your way

nope, no comments besides for the "this is off-topic" one

@Mithical You can always use your imagination
I forget that you mortals cannot see through screens
@Tinkeringbell Parrots are picky where they perch.
Maybe. NatGeo would say it's true

Oh, definitely picky. Needs a firm cushion and a blanket, food and drinks within reach. And a toilet not too far away!

@Fmbalbuena please stop

6:20 PM
I'm testing the commands, which room is for testing?

22 messages moved to Chimney
10 messages moved to Chimney
@Fmbalbuena it is definitely not this room

@rene sorry
@rene Charcoal HQ?

@Fmbalbuena no, a quick search revealed this room: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/info/65945/… still, don't abuse it.

sorry

6:40 PM
hello
is anybody here?

*waves vaguely*
hi

hiiii

kinda busy, though, sorry; it's sorta the slow season around SE right now

whats SE?

Stack Exchange

6:50 PM
why dont all my points show here

because this is chat.Meta.SE, only your reputation points from Meta.SE will show here

oh
so what you doing rn

telling @Cat to stay away from work while she's sick because she's terrible at work-life balance

I am sick rn that is why I am not in school

7:12 PM
@Mithical is it working? ;)

?

@Mithical What'd I do this time?

you appeared

u went to work and u might get others sick

I turned my computer on.

7:14 PM
On a more serious note, feeling any better yet?

do you have covid

I'm pretty sure, as contagious as Omicron is, it's not able to transmit over the internet... yet.

thats called a computer virus cat

The day that computer viruses start infecting people, we might as well pack up.

go to mars?
or moon
@Mithical

7:18 PM
The moon would be a bit lonely. Mars would be a bit cold.

why would it be lonley but mars wouldnt

We've got a Mars rover up there to keep ya company!

we got 2
<:

:)

curiosity and peserverance
ignore bad spelling

7:36 PM
they are the 2 rovers on mars

rovers on mars

oh

6
5 by the US, 1 china

7:58 PM
dead chat

lol
what
I have the gud questions

8:16 PM
meh

whor
whot

8:27 PM
@KevinB do show face <:

please don't pressure people to share pictures of themselves

is there something wrong with it though

I find avatars to be far more recognizable anyway

wdym

8:31 PM
wdym
a face displayed in a 30 pixel wide box is far too blurry for any real discernable information to be reliably obtained in a way that would be useful for identification
where as, a graphic made for such a small display is far more recognizable

you can blow it up alot bigger
here

yes, however, in what way would that be useful

idk

the goal is identification, via the ability to personalize your profile in a way that fits you, whether that's with a human portrait of yourself or someone else, or a graphic, any additional information portrayed by it is merely coincidental (and potentially inaccurate)

oh

8:40 PM
but all the same, my picture is out there, somewhere, for those willing to dig for it
;)

ima find were it is from

this avatar is just a random axe i put an overlay on, applied a bevel, then stuck on a radial gradient... 10-13 years ago

oh

but it is the best place to start

?

8:43 PM
given that i've been using it for 10+ years, it's bound to be somewhere with a more complete name

oh

(though, do keep anything you find out of chat)

?

@Leah Don't reveal any identifying information you might find here

about>
?

8:47 PM
Kevin, presumably
But also, about anyone

I dont know kevin
I just wanted to do something cuz I am board

@KevinB That was scarily easy.

?
why do you guys not write actual sentences that make sneseseeeeeeeeeeeee

I could in theory close that loophole, but, meh

I mean, it took ten minutes to find a home address... I'd be concerned

9:03 PM
i'd be more concerned if i was in a situation that was likely to draw harassment

9:46 PM

@KevinB Does sending you crocheted parrots each month count as harassment? ;)

i don't think so
though, i'd feel bad about the shipping

Haha yeah me too probably :P

10:03 PM
MFW you frequent a medical group and even there you're not safe from anti-mask BS
@Mithical I'm showing my face on my avatar, nothing wrong with it
@Feeds No no you're doing it wrong. Adding e^x immediately keeps undergrads away
Undergrad repellant
@KevinB So that thing, uh, Batman's axe, personalizifies you?
Now I don't wanna look you up

not really
i needed a logo, and made one, and am too lazy to do anything new with it

@Mithical He hasn't shared any controversial insights on Twitter (hopefully) so he'll be okay

i don't think i've made a single tweet

You have lived a happier life than most
Well, actually, neither have I. But twitter bad amirite

i haven't made a facebook post, or reply, either, but one may have been made on my behalf
i'm just not a very... socially-adept person

10:14 PM
See, told you. You're happy.

🎉

I know it because I'm not socially adept either and think I'm happy
Correlation causes implication

i feel like i can more or less will myself into being happy

I have a facebook account, because I think I wanted some android game's reward for logging into facebook.
It's been censored for as long as I remember, and it never really took off here anyway.
Telegram is huge though, and even I couldn't avoid it. There were probably around 30 million Iranian accounts by the time they decided to censor Telegram
So it never worked
So with Telegram, I'm like a hamster on a wheel finding mildly interesting groups and then being turned off by one thing or another.

I have one for work reasons

10:19 PM
It's just really hard to listen to random people, you know?

i work for a marketing dept, and social shtuff is relatively important to marketing

Yukh

fortunately i don't routinely need to do marketing related stuff
i do integrations

Part of the reason I chose pharmacy over medicine was having to deal with people less

10:36 PM
@Spevacus These are all reasons folks familiar with the community should work for SE ;p

it's... a double-edged sword I feel. I've considered it in the past, but, I'm not sure how I'd feel about being assigned or expected to work on a particular bit that I adamantly disagree with or am sure will fail. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
though i guess that's true of everywhere you may want to work, but, here in particular, is a community i deeply care about, and that makes things... different.

And that's one more voice that'll point it out. And well, if you're right, people would listen to you the next time

from my current standing i'm able to easily say whatever i want

Hopefully!

within reason, of course, but without the fear that it could lead to a loss of income.

10:46 PM
\o/
I've applied to be a CM 4 times.
And well - your job security depends on the whims of the current management

right
and... the past... shakeups don't inspire confidence

@JourneymanGeek Tbf, that applies to any company

@KevinB Yet I tried (and got rejected for all sorts of reasons) simply because the voices the company sometimes thinks it dosen't need are the ones it might actually need
And at this point, I don't see myself getting hired, simply cause of how the company hires. But I don't want that to happen to the next person who happens to be in the wrong place, or happens to 'lack formal experience'

last i checked they weren't looking for remote anyway, and i ain't moving any time soon

@KevinB Stack is fully remote
they just only hire from countries they either have a presence in or a PEO to handle payroll and stuff
