Heh first time in a very long while it's not already reported. Yay.

Rare case of mistake in advertisement, usually they pay more attention before sending...

Huh!

♫ the heat never bothered me anyway🎶
@tripleee how does the bot work?
It's not even in the room, there is some central server?

8:54 AM
All gone @tripleee

9:11 AM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 it just reads the transcript, it doesn't have to join the room to see what's there
@Luuklag yay, thanks
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 like chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/89

@JNat lets start a new backlog of spammers: stackexchange.com/users/23283032/jade-mckinley?tab=accounts

it's actually useful to preserve their account because it's a dead giveaway that a post is spam

@tripleee but spam nuked accounts feed into spamram to IP limit spammers for once

hmm yeah

@tripleee heh. So which rooms does it monitor?
How can one tell if a specfic room is monitored by the bot and won't be frozen?

9:26 AM
github.com/tripleee/sloshy has a readme and of course the actual configuration file
there were periods in the past when it was less reliable; in particular, one of the rooms it tried to watch was removed from underneath, which caused it to crash for several nights in a row until I had the time to sit down and figure out what was wrong

@tripleee something still odd... why did you choose this "friendly cafe" as "bot test room"? Who asked for it? The contact in the config file was never part of the room. meta.stackexchange.com/users/391772/user1271772

what do you mean by "bot test room"? Sloshy has its own room for testing chat.stackoverflow.com/rooms/233626/sloshy-the-thawman

I think someone got confused...
(Not sure who?)

oh, that's just part of the room's description ... but if the bot is unwelcome there (as I have recently learned) I can certainly remove it

Not that I care, just strikes me as odd.
@tripleee ohh, I see now. lol, blonde moment for me.
You can leave it, but still wonder, who added to the watchlist?

9:34 AM
user1271772

Odd, like I said he was never part of the room...

they did a wholesale add of a dozen rooms or more, I prodded them for a bit and they answered all my questions to my satisfaction but I suppose I could have been more thorough

Anyway, all good. Time for...
@tripleee well the room I asked about just have.... history. But it's in the past, and worst case mod can still manually freeze.

gone now anyway

oh. OK!
@tripleee when sloshy starts watching a room, have it post a message ln the room. :)
Easy to do?

9:37 AM
good idea actually, I have an issue related to that already

I just saw the message, wondered who is this user, started to dig, and found my answer, but would be easier if the bot will announce it by itself.
@tripleee :)

yep, agreed

Again, nothing crucial, just nice to have. Good work with the bot!

the reason I had been putting it off was that it's a bit tricky to figure out whether a room was recently added from just watching the config file. The bot could keep a copy and compare to an earlier version, or scan the transcript for previous messages from itself
I guess the latter would be fun to do actually
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 thanks (-: much appreciated

@tripleee scan can be trouble in case of busy rooms, maybe keep a file where you write the rooms where the initial message has been already posted.

9:41 AM
It's definitely a cool bot! Too bad moderator-only spaces require a moderator to post, instead of a bot... I'd have had use for it otherwise ;)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 again, it only needs the transcript, which I imagine will be static and often cached for the recent previous days
@Tinkeringbell it should not be hard to run on your own account if you wanted to

@Tinkeringbell give a diamond to the bot. ;)
@tripleee hmm why not just adding another property to the object?
- name: "The Friendly Café (room for testing bots on Meta.SE)"
     id: 1543
     contact: user1271772 (1327177)
     announced: false
Then just set to true when posting the message.

@tripleee I'm usually weary of adding too many things to my account, including bots :)

rewriting its own config file from a Github Action does not seem uncomplicated

There's socks for that!

9:43 AM
@tripleee oh
@Tinkeringbell socks are weak ;)

@Tinkeringbell just run it on the command line with your user name and password (but probably edit the config file first :-)

@Tinkeringbell what's the worst that can happen? :D

Yeah... ehhh... :P
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Rogue bots, hassle of getting diamonds back... XD

10:39 AM
@Luuklag gone

10:51 AM
R.I.P backlog
:D

11:22 AM
there was a spam/abusive flag for a COVID-related message in the Tex&LaTeX chat room, this user seems to be posting mainly off-topic messages there but I'm not familiar enough with the room culture to decide whether this is okay there or not

@tripleee usually off topic aren't spam/abusive, but dunno. Link?
@tripleee how come Smokey doesn't report those here? Is there a bug?

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 there was a weird miss where that particular spam was not reported anywhere at all as far as I can tell, but it seems to be an isolated glitch

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Getting diamond back:
@tripleee There seems to be some off-topic and repeat pings (that people respond to positively) there by another user: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/59743036#59743036 that are worse than that single one.

11:58 AM
@tripleee oh. Well just lack of taste, don't think it's offensive.

I would tend to agree, I was wondering if there was a broader context I wasn't seeing but it seems like just a spurious flag

@Rob what's wrong with pings?
@tripleee yeah, the user is OK
Their last message on MSE chat was directed at me. What an honor. :D

@ShadowWizard yeah, but note that Academia was shifting the badge sprites by "half a pixel" to significantly improve the rendering, so it cares about pixels ;)

Rob
12:29 PM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Read them.

1:01 PM
@Rob all the "ooh"? Still, not worse (or better) than the bad COVID joke.
BTW, @Mithical forgot to ask something, but I'll ask now... did you recently (few months) notice a change in במבה? The ordinary product, I think they made it smaller, though still the same taste.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 I don't eat it, so I wouldn't know

Rob
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Where is the "joke", or the lack of truthfullness in what they wrote, something funny?

2:38 PM
@Mithical :(
:(
@Rob dark humor, when joking about death. No? Still a joke. (never got to really delve into the terms, but that's what I know.)

10:01 PM
of course
people voted on it, therefore it's useful and can't be deleted ever forever because clearly it's useful

yeah, sure. But it is F***ing outdated xD

yeah, but we can't pretend to be able to predict the future
