@forestdistrustsStackExchange lol. Reminds me of a troll that kept demanding Smokey delete mentions of him.... or he'd keep trolling

Plot twist: He enjoys when Smokey keeps mentioning him and he's using reverse psychology.

Probably
tho, I do think it would be nice in some ways if SE helped out with SD infra in whatever way they can :D

Privacy is something you must actively create, not something which is given to you.
So if someone really doesn't want Smokey to have their info, they shouldn't write anything on a public website (or at least should use Tor if they just want their identity hidden).

also everything SD collects is public and is no different from say akmiset
only that it logs even less data, + looks at content as well

And it's not like it's using the data for anything particularly nefarious.
Whereas the malicious ads that run on SE are a different story, since they want to track as much as they can in any way they can. Smokey is just not a threat.

12:40 AM
I block ads but I almost feel SE's been less dismissive of complaints of those/there's been less complaints?

Maybe for sexually explicit ads, but afaik they still allow ads with malicious JS.
(Browser fingerprinting, "supercookies" and the like)
Actually the first time that was pointed out, SE staff said they didn't know that and would remove the ads, but then some other staff stepped in and said "actually on further review, we'll keep it here".
(In fairness, I haven't checked to see if that ad is still present, but I assume it is)

1 hour later…
2:04 AM
@Glorfindel I think your script might be making some incorrect link fixes again:

2:46 AM
@forestdistrustsStackExchange the link returns HTTP 301 to https://corpredirect.intel.com/Redirector/404Redirector.aspx?https://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/application-note/pci-sig-sr-iov-primer-sr-iov-technology-paper.pdf --> https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getcontent/321211 --> https://d2pgu9s4sfmw1s.cloudfront.net/UAM/Prod/Done/a062E00001XMS0qQAH/df6576bc-817a-916e-4eb2-b8e1dc4bd436?Expires=1637030966&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJKRNIMMSNYXST6UA&Signature=...

@MetaAndrewT. I know, but the link it redirects to expires after some time.

Yes, though is there a way to distinguish which HTTP 301 should be replaced or not?

I think it'd be better just to leave out those replacements. Glorfindel's script is only running on my account to fix SE links (the user ID).

8:15 AM
@MetaAndrewT. excellent idea, my script isn't smart enough yet. Thanks @forest for the heads up!

8:55 AM
@Wolgwang got HTTP 522 from Cloudflare, maybe proxy site, which should be reported to SE if it's true
@Feeds 250 oneboxes per month on a chat room? Only if you can fix that code.

Rob
9:20 AM
@forestdistrustsStackExchange @Glo - Doing a search on Intel's site for "PCI-SIG SR-IOV Primer" returns search results that claim that the current version is: "Last Updated: 02/13/2020 - Content ID: 321211" (much newer), but the link offered
in the search results (even with "explicitVersion=true&" removed from the URL) returns a version with the text: "321211-002 - Revision 2.5 - January 2011". I can't help but think that there's a newer version. Also, that URL is certainly shorter than what was proposed in that rolled back edit.
Not sure how you could code such URL replacements, but that URL is probably better than what was proposed; though it's certainly possible that there are physical locations where it may not work (that site expects the redirect to go to a different server).

@tripleee poof

Asking here since the site chatboard is empty. Anyone familiar with Skeptics rules?

10:00 AM
@SPArcheon notable claim for question, credible source for answer?

And link your sources I think

@MetaAndrewT. That seems to be the basic idea, yes. I was trying to see if questions that ask if something ever happened are considered OT.
Probably not.

10:42 AM
So, random trivia of the day.
I just discovered that technically the sound a parrot does is considered squeaking, while bats "clicks". So apparently a parrot is more similar to a mouse than a bat. And bats must be similar to big mushroom zombies....

squawking

11:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek mayday mayday

@MetaAndrewT. piglatin vibes.

@Wolgwang best case one of many copycats trying to gain traffic by copying SE contents, worst case some scammer.

@SPArcheon I'd say bats are similar to dolphins
@Tinkeringbell o/

Rob
An average rat.

11:27 AM
And my daily ad check got me to see something rather odd, he does not appear to be really happy:

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 what is 70% off?

Worth to mention I don't see many ads from that company, they pop only in special occasions like November sales.
@Luuklag up to 70% off, from collection of winter clothes and ski tools.
The "up to" is there, in tiny font.
@tripleee gone

Good thing we hardly have any winters left here xD

probably colder than Israel, still

11:32 AM
@tripleee I guess that depends on where in Israel you are
I think there are skislopes in Israel, we don't have any (outdoors that is)

huh, TIL (only one, but still, 2000m above sea level)

Rob
*and for

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 You wouldn't be happy if you were waist deep in snowcapped mountains either

Well I'm gonna make some coffee, about to endure a meeting from 13:00-17:00

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Why would anyone copy chat.stackexchange.comm ?

11:47 AM
stupid misdirected SEO experiments is my guess
!!/coffee tripleee

@tripleee brews a cup of Affogato for @tripleee

@Wolgwang just going directly to that url times out for me
host probably getting overloaded
as cloudflare does redirect me

@Luuklag Same here.

@tripleee for sure, we have 30 degrees celcius during November which should be winter already.
@JourneymanGeek true! Good catch. ;)
@Luuklag ouch. Long meeting. Client?

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 consortium meeting

11:56 AM
@tripleee redundant, you can omit your name. ;)
@Luuklag sounds.... important. Take coffee container with you.... :D

@Wolgwang they probably just indexed every page they could, with internal links and everything, which explain why they got IP blocked.

12:12 PM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 🧐
It is a news website!

@Wolgwang no... it just copy everything it can lol

XD

!!/copy Wolgwang

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 No such command 'copy'.

@Tinkeringbell RIP
@Tinkeringbell I am unable to find "community leader".

Where did you get that term? It's not generally a 'title' for any role on SE as far as I know

(Probably because it's not a role meant specifically for staff)
a community "leader" isn't a community manager
it can be

It may be part of the 'job description' for e.g. the role of moderator, but those are still wearing the title of 'moderator'

3:37 PM
I used to though that it means "CM" or "modraters"

Can also be very active community members, that are behaving exemplary
But yeah, it's not a specific group or thing

well, it's like, not all bread is toast, but all toast is bread. CM's and Moderators can both be part of a given community, but they're not necessarily the people or group of people that are leading the community
such users often become moderators, but not always

ew toast
I see that my secretiveness in performing my job has worked well, but you need to know the truth. I am the community leader

Hail community leader! XD

@KevinB Speak for yourself. I love alcoholic toast
But yeah, you're right

3:45 PM
@Tinkeringbell yeah, it's kinda mentioned on the election page "Community moderators are [...] leaders within the community."

There was also this lead by example and stuff. Although might have been a chemistry pun, I forget

@M.A.R. Nah, that's that game... Simon says :P

Which reminds me, OR.SE is a good candidate too.
QC has the longest announcement.
We'll be getting an announcement sometime, RSN.

I wonder if CommunityBuilding.SE will also be graduating. The site's stats don't look too great, but... It's fairly old.

> New elections by 2022/2023
That'll be the fourth election in recent times for Freelancing :P
I suspect they won't be too high on the list of priorities for elections :P
