@Rob that's the main singer, yeah. Nice! But I asked who is going to be the special guest, it's written as text only:
:D
(the text to the right says "special guest" then his name in white)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 via Google Translate: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Broza

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 his?

Translated the circled text as "Distinguished Guest David Broza"

@RyanM that assumes you know or have the patience to find the weird hieroglyphics of Hebrew, or is there some OCR involved?

@RyanM !!!
Can it really translate pictures?! wow
Well it did make some progress.

8:03 AM
Entirely OCR. Pointed camera at screen, snapped a photo, swiped my finger over the text.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Any time I see that I imagine the person going "AAAAAH" cartoonishly, like Tom & Gerry
Jerry

@RyanM failed on "distinguished" lol it's just "special"
@RyanM Google Translate app?

Dgerry

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 is that a misreading of the text (do the words look similar?) or a translation issue?
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Yep

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 He's glued to other members?

8:04 AM
@M.A.R. hmm?

@RyanM word choice issue I would assume

@M.A.R. yeah last I checked David is "he" ;)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Yabbut there was only a single person that was a woman in the picture

@RyanM most likely translation, let's see in the web translator...
hmm I was wrong
So looks like the OCR picked a wrong word.
Wonder if you can see in the OCR the Hebrew words it found?

Darn, why is SE so slow for me?
I'm assuming our wise censors in their eternal wisdom blocked some important resource or script

8:07 AM
@M.A.R. it's you, you're too fast.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 it's not Ramadan

@M.A.R. check network tab

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 That tab is unhelpful because it always used to show multitudes of errors
I'd miss one more.

@M.A.R. Gerry from Sponge Bob?

It read "אורח מיוחז דויד ברוזה"

8:09 AM
@M.A.R. that's Gerry ^ (oh, Gary but still it's obviously spinoff of Jerry ;))

which looks right to my eye, but I can't read Hebrew.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 from Sopranos
@RyanM Hebrew always looks like Greek letters suffered attrition and faded away

@RyanM yes that's the text. So it's really weird why it translated as "distinguished".

And Greek is weird enough on its own

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 gotta put in the full phrase

8:12 AM
@M.A.R. well yeah Greek is kind of the source

I guess whatever AI that Google Translate uses is a fan of David Broza and thinks he's distinguished.

@RyanM :D
hmm Greek isn't the source, Aramaic is.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Yeah and you guys decided, "you know what, I don't like this extra stroke, I'm just gonna make everything look like cat scratch marks and let people decipher things on their own"
Though to be entirely fair, it's probably because chat font is too . . . smooth? What do font nerds, er, typographers call it

@RyanM ohhh there is typo! I missed it before.
The OCR gave "מיוחז" however the actual word is "מיוחד".
Those are two different letters lol.

They look uh, very different

8:15 AM
Yeah, I see how it got that one wrong...

ד is more straight

Precisely illustrating my point

If that's actually "distinguished," then it's quite funny that they're so similar.

@RyanM no, מיוחז is just typo without any meaning of its own
But Google Translate goes really awkward with typos, something about their neural network, read about it long ago.

8:17 AM
Sickle and hatchet. Commie letters

Yeah, it's occasionally useful when it just ...does the right thing.
But you can also get really strange results.

@M.A.R. think it's using the browser/OS default font, no?

Machine translation is funny enough itself. Doesn't need curved and carved letters
#KeepMachineTranslationPure

lol
It's more funny when you know the meaning of the letter in slang. :P

One of my favorite Google Translate results: hit the "Translate" button at the bottom of these song lyrics that consist in large part of 3-4 letter initialisms. Note that some of the initialisms get translated, sometimes to other initialisms.

@M.A.R. remember this? ^
:D

@RyanM e.g., "FCKW" (Fluorchlorkohlenwasserstoff) gets translated to "CFC" (chlorofluorocarbon)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 not really, I mean, when it comes to the Arabic script, Google translate is racist or something. It gets REALLY bizarre
The weirdest, most nonsensical translations (besides Chinese translations of course)

lol
This and dark skinned people?

Oh, and occasionally Japanese too: Advanced Mission
(From the LL link above)

@M.A.R. sans serif is not an island in the Caribbean

@magisch I see the catcus is back, nice!

@Rob I didn't quite get it so wasn't sure how to respond.

@Rob I mean I don't know who that woman is, Google reverse image search doesn't help either...

Rob
Use your OCR!

how are things with your new house @Tink?

Rob
Hint: নিকিতা গান্ধী

9:45 AM
Also OCR means reading text displayed as image, didn't even know it can be used for pure images.

Rob

oh. stealing OCR from @M.A.R. then

@Rob The google translate app has that capability as well, it works pretty decent, unless people start writing really fancy letters with lots of curls etc.

Rob
It's not Persian either.

Living room and bedroom are all wallpapered, so only the hallway left to go. Mom will hopefully get a big chunk of that done this Wednesday. I managed to put ~1/2 of the clothes closet together before dad started meddling and things slowed down significantly.

Tonight I'm planning to go over and clean the ... "plinten" ... and the floor, so the furniture and bed can go in tomorrow.

9:48 AM
@Rob Nikhita Gandhi

Otherwise, a lot of chaos and arguments about cleaning. Mom seems to think everything needs to be cleaned entirely before the furniture moves in, and I'm of the opinion that things like doors, windows and the inside of the kitchen cabinets can wait.

@Tinkeringbell what's a "plinten"? Kind of lantern? ;)

@Tinkeringbell baseboard / skirting

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 No... Luuklag translated it for you :P

@Luuk is on a translation roll today. :D

Rob
9:50 AM
:)

hiring @Luuk as Chief Translator

Rob
cheap

Didn't say how much he gets

Rob
cheap translator, not chief
The answer to @Sha's OCR Challenge is: bn.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

9:58 AM
Argh our IT provider started using Jira, and now I get a shitload of mails from Jira
The only option is to unsubscribe per issue

Ugh, that doesn't sound good!

I made an email rule to just mark as read and move to trash
problem solved :)

@Luuklag Nice!

10:22 AM
@Luuklag LOL
@Rob you've successfully passed the Beginner's OCR challenge. Now for Expert challenge. Identify the app:

@Sha, has anyone ever told you that if you invert the text it's easier to look at (guess letters), as an English only reader?:
See: it's "LliL ClIte" !

@Rob this shounds pretty NSFW ;)

@Rob you're the first to tell me that. :D
@Rob NSFW?

Rob
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 It's approximately 25% easier to read, I don't understand it either way; but it's easier to remember when comparing the letters on two pages - just read the word upsidedown and compare for equality.
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Maybe he's a Rapper.

@Rob he has one item in Amazon for sale.

Rob
Is it wrapped?

11:19 AM
hmm let me see
@Rob nope.

Rob
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 99¢ seems a lot to charge for an unknown singer.

@Rob think it's the minimum
It's also one song, 1 minute.
Can't post the song name, I'll get kicked. :P
But it goes well with the singer stage name.

11:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek NO U

@M.A.R. You callin me fat?

No, I'm calling you cholesterol
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 well you can't have mine!

@M.A.R. Good or bad though?

12:00 PM
@JNat spammer for your gentle care: stackexchange.com/users/21417450/roadly?tab=accounts

Rob
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 It's a huge ripoff, the shortest top 100 song (also 99¢) comes in at just under 2 minutes; but it's a well known song from an established artist. Most songs are longer than 2 minutes, source: billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8514407/…
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 He has 11 items on Amazon: amazon.com/David-Broza/e/B000APXKBQ why do you say only 1, blocked?

Morning/afternoon folks!

@M.A.R. :(
@Rob we're talking about two different things, which isn't uncommon.
I'm talking about the new name you found when putting it upside down.
2 hours ago, by Rob
See: it's "LliL ClIte" !
Give or take couple of letters, it's actually a singer (?) name.

Guys why is this review showing I have voted to open when I voted to close it?

You probably chose leave open in the review queue and voted to close it outside of review.
the same thing happens to me all the time.

@SPArcheon recripsi? Sorry, not that big on Latin, only know a few popular phrases.

@Tinkeringbell it means I came, I saw, I wrote back (according to Google translate)

Is there any legal reason that people filling out a form here have to confirm they’ve read the privacy policy?

Same reason as every other form on the internet having that?
Legal requirements

@Tinkeringbell don't worry, that isn't my objective. Just a way to not have to look at the skull.
