@Feeds a database built for a onebox?

5:39 AM
@JourneymanGeek Like we have a to show something important in Meta SE. This post should also have the because this should be shown to everyone using Meta SE because this decides future of Meta SE but the problem then is that it will be shown to every site in SE. So do we have something like which makes a question of Meta StackExchange come in right side "Featured on Meta" but not on every site?

@JitendraSingh nope
@JitendraSingh don't forget... If we chose poorly, we can always revisit our choice
+ meta regulars miss very little

+1 for + meta regulars miss very little :D

6:15 AM
@JitendraSingh post important posts on the Tavern, they may get highlighted when starred/pinned :p

@Shree "Very little" means less but not 0

well, "less but not 0" is a hard situation. Some SE sites also use [featured] tag on their child meta, but still, not all regulars notice it.

But @JourneymanGeek @MetaAndrewT. won't it be helpful if we have a tag to show importance of posts on Meta SE which are important to Meta users but not for other SE communities

I feel like we have been on this before... post a feature request then?

@MetaAndrewT. Post on Meta SE in form of question right?

6:24 AM
yes, like the usual

6:36 AM
@JitendraSingh that's generally what a feature request is
I wouldn't say tag. Maybe a way for mods to set a per site banner ....
Or other way to advertise matters of importance

@JitendraSingh hm, useful thing to be aware of - MSO's hot meta questions
Which might be one way to do it

7:22 AM
@JourneymanGeek Doesn't that one have its own mess of problems?

@Tinkeringbell mostly politics :D
MSE hardly has any /s

I'm going to agree with others here: This is a solution in search of a problem. XD

I prefer a problem in search of another problem though...

7:38 AM
I like riddles wrapped in enigmas, dipped in sauce...

I like french fries...
and chocolate
But not together.

I'm sure a sufficently insane gifted chef might make it work

Oh, for sure.
But combining junkfood only makes it more junky

7:54 AM
@Tinkeringbell make them out of pear, and coat them in chocolate

I'm sorry, but pear-fries aren't real fries.

@Luuklag I was thinking the other way

It's like how you can't call processed vegetable a hamburger.

there's a variation of mole that uses cocoa :D
Also, It wouldn't contain tomatos which would be a big plus for our tomato hating parrot

@JourneymanGeek Chocolate sauce sounds nice... and unhealthy :P

8:02 AM
pfft really loving that this meeting is online :)
09:30 - 15:00

oof... well at least you can just mute yourself and go do other stuff? :)

that's not a meeting, that's a conference

@Tinkeringbell yup
@RyanM nope, its a meeting

A meeting in name only, perhaps ;-)

Yeah, I prefered when these meetings were in person. Then you could at least have some usefull networking during the breaks

Rob
8:07 AM
@JitendraSingh That was last discussed (briefly) here:
Sep 23 at 21:16, by Rob
Even the Wiki doesn't mention that detail: https://meta.stackexchange.com/tags/featured-tag/info - we'd need a different tag, such as

@Luuklag this meeting could be an email
a VERY long email
@Tinkeringbell Chocolate is good for you
Its a fruit
the sugar and milk... that's the unhealthy part :D

@JourneymanGeek XD I don't think a lot of people eat chocolate without the sugar and milk though.

@Tinkeringbell 99% chocolate is a thing

@JourneymanGeek This is the elaboration on an email ;)

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, fair.

8:16 AM
@Luuklag THIS COULD BE MORE EMAILS
(fun fact, chocolate and durian are apparently related)

Well every family has a stinky one :P

Durians are underappreciated

I don't know, they don't sell them here XD but that's what every family member would say XD

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, the first one was about 50 pages in pdf

THIS PDF COULD HAVE BEEN AN EMAIL

Rob
8:30 AM

@Rob I can attest that the sign is entirely true

Rob
Dunno why the Wiki page doesn't onebox properly, but at least it clicks thru.

@JourneymanGeek Singapore is a fine city~

wiki does the links so its slightly annoying to direct link from a preview

@JourneymanGeek The fine on durians is so high it didn't fit on the sign?

8:38 AM
@Luuklag they take you out immediately and cane you.
More seriously, I think it would be so obvious they wouldn't let you on

yeah, it's banned on public transportation

@MetaAndrewT. So you can't take the bus to the market to buy your durians?

@Luuklag no
Generally people just eat them at the stall

Can you smell them even unopened?

..... yes

8:51 AM
(I have never actually been near a durian, in case that is not obvious)

i can tell
If you had you wouldn't be asking that question

it can smell pretty bad, especially in closed space :)

Well the funny thing is you get used to the smell
it certainly is strong, but you build up a resistance

You can do so with a lot of smells
You should ask a pig farmer, they don't notice the smell anymore either
while most of us will be disgusted by the high levels of ammonia in the air when you enter a pigs stall

Can confirm; I'm not bothered by skunk spray, for instance, after a skunk managed to embed a large quantity of it deep within the bowels of my parents' house when I was growing up...

8:57 AM
Now that I think about it, I can resist some kinds of bad smells, but not other smells yet...

well
Durian is also seasonal
so its not a constant thing

9:09 AM
I like durian though!

Rob
@JourneymanGeek That's a relief, I thought they'd make you smell them but not eat them.

oh, there's worse
they could make you eat it, husk and all
those spikes are not for show. Durian vendors need protective handwear
the whole evolution of a durian is about "ripen, fall, break open, smell strong, get eaten"

If Newton got a durian instead of an apple...

All this talk almost has me interested in trying one :P

9:24 AM
@MetaAndrewT. haha, then gravity wouldn't exist ;)

Rob
There's always this delicious treat, puke fruit juice:
Morinda citrifolia is a fruit-bearing tree in the coffee family, Rubiaceae. Its native range extends across Southeast Asia and Australasia, and was spread across the Pacific by Polynesian sailors. The species is now cultivated throughout the tropics and widely naturalized. Among some 100 names for the fruit across different regions are the more common English names of great morinda, Indian mulberry, noni, beach mulberry, and cheese fruit.The fresh fruit's strong, vomit-like odor has made it a famine food in most regions, but it remains a staple food among some cultures, and has been used in...

@MetaAndrewT. technically, the durian would have gotten him

dunno which one is worse, durian or this
Salak (Salacca zalacca) is a species of palm tree (family Arecaceae) native to Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. It is cultivated in other regions of Indonesia as a food crop, and reportedly naturalized in Bali, Lombok, Timor, Maluku, and Sulawesi.The salak Salacca glabrecens was featured on a Malaysian stamp, issued 27 February 1999 under the rare fruits series of stamps. It is a very short-stemmed palm, with leaves up to 6 metres (20 ft) long; each leaf has a 2-metre long petiole with spines up to 15 centimetres (5.9 in) long, and numerous leaflets. The fruits grow in clusters at the base of the...

The manchineel tree (Hippomane mancinella) is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae). Its native range stretches from tropical southern North America to northern South America.The name "manchineel" (sometimes spelled "manchioneel" or "manchineal"), as well as the specific epithet mancinella, is from Spanish manzanilla ("little apple"), from the superficial resemblance of its fruit and leaves to those of an apple tree. It is also known as the beach apple.A present-day Spanish name is manzanilla de la muerte, "little apple of death". This refers to the fact that manchineel...

@SPArcheon I'd argue that dosen't count since it'll actually kill you
If we're talking poisonous...
Pangium, containing the sole species Pangium edule is a tall tree native to the mangrove swamps of Southeast Asia (Indonesia and Papua New Guinea). It produces a large poisonous fruit (the "football fruit") which can be made edible by fermentation. It is dioecious, with male and female flowers produced on separate individuals.The taxonomy of the tree is uncertain and it may also be classed in the Flacourtiaceae or the Violales. == Ecology and cultivation == The tree requires many years to mature and the seeds are therefore most frequently harvested from wild trees, as it is not economica...
I'd love to know how someone worked out you could eat this
> The fresh fruit and seeds contain hydrogen cyanide and are deadly poisonous if consumed without prior preparation.[6][7][8] The seeds are first boiled and then buried in ash, banana leaves and earth for forty days,[9] during which time, they turn from a creamy white colour to dark brown or black.[10] The method relies on the fact that the hydrogen cyanide released by the boiling and fermentation is water-soluble and easily washed out.

9:41 AM
@JourneymanGeek that is not just "poison". That plant sap is caustic too. Can damage car painting
anyway, as you wish, no poisonous plants then
Amorphophallus titanum, the titan arum, is a flowering plant in the family Araceae. It has the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world. The inflorescence of the talipot palm, Corypha umbraculifera, is larger, but it is branched rather than unbranched. Amorphophallus titanum is endemic to Sumatra. Due to its odor, like that of a rotting corpse, the titan arum is characterized as a carrion flower, and is also known as the corpse flower or corpse plant (Indonesian: bunga bangkai—bunga means flower, while bangkai can be translated as corpse, cadaver, or carrion). The titan arum's berries arrange...
disclaimer: button is ready to fire. You are warned @ShadowWizard

hm
Is that edible?
More precisely, do people eat that?

ye continue to add more and more requirements....
Fine....

@JourneymanGeek I do think some people do, yes :P

Durians are stinky and edible :D

Casu martzu (Sardinian pronunciation: [ˈkazu ˈmaɾtsu]; literally 'rotten/putrid cheese'), sometimes spelled casu marzu, and also called casu modde, casu cundídu and casu fràzigu in Sardinian, is a traditional Sardinian sheep milk cheese that contains live insect larvae (maggots). A variation of the cheese, casgiu merzu, is also produced in some Southern Corsican villages like Sartene.Derived from pecorino, casu martzu goes beyond typical fermentation to a stage of decomposition, brought about by the digestive action of the larvae of the cheese fly of the Piophilidae family. These larvae are...

here. Have fun

@SPArcheon What... not the fermented duck embryos?

@SPArcheon oh this takes the cake cheese

@SPArcheon I thought Sardinian is sardine...

So infamous, it even managed to slip in a DORAEMON episode
(Suneo claiming he ate those during a vacation without even knowing what they are like, Doraemon actually getting a can for him to try....)

9:47 AM
Balut ( bə-LOOT, BAH-loot; also spelled as balot) is a fertilized developing egg embryo that is boiled and eaten from the shell. It is commonly sold as street food in South China and Southeast Asian countries, notably Cambodia (Khmer: ពងទាកូនា, pong tea khon) and Vietnam (Vietnamese: trứng vịt lộn). The term comes from the Filipino language. The length of incubation before the egg is cooked is a matter of local preference, but generally ranges between 14 and 21 days. == Description == A balut is a fertilized bird egg (usually a duck) which is incubated for a period of 14 to 21 days, depending...

9:49 AM
Hákarl (an abbreviation of kæstur hákarl Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈcʰaistʏr ˈhauːˌkʰa(r)tl̥], referred to as fermented shark in English) is a national dish of Iceland consisting of a Greenland shark or other sleeper shark that has been cured with a particular fermentation process and hung to dry for four to five months. It has a strong ammonia-rich smell and fishy taste, making hákarl an acquired taste.Fermented shark is readily available in Icelandic stores and may be eaten year-round, but is most often served as part of a þorramatur, a selection of traditional Icelandic food served at t...

@Luuklag XD This one might interest you too, it happened near here yesterday: stefanverkerk.nl/public/media/2021/10/11/… ... raw frikandel in it's natural habitat ;)

@JourneymanGeek ah, uhh, that milk is strangely nsfw

@Tinkeringbell delicious

@JourneymanGeek Thanks for the rabbit hole btw :D

noo, not the shark

9:54 AM
Did I mention that the Casu martzu is actually ILLEGAL for health/safety concerns?

@Tinkeringbell I am surprised that's still around

@SPArcheon So? That's the same for a whole bunch of harddrugs and eating tide pods!

@SPArcheon dunno, people eat anything that they think can be eaten...
I mean, a certain Vtuber idol ate a tarantula...

@Tinkeringbell Oh its traditional
and the maggots need to be alive

I know. I'm no Bear Grylls but live maggots aren't that bad, right?
Great source of protein and all that.

10:01 AM
I do believe that's part of the plot of the latest bladerunner movie

If there's no limit on what is consumable, and bad smelling: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shit_stick (not oneboxed, for a reason).

@Rob uh. DISQUALIFIED

Rob
There's an expression in English, for food that is not properly prepared or tastes bad due to the cook's skills: "S on a stick".

oh, I thought it "tastes like chicken"

10:20 AM
@Rob there was a bit of a miscommunication there with the message you're pointing to. Apologies for any confusion, but... we don't appoint folks as pro-tems without at least an attempt at a competitive election first.

Rob
Very well.

the blue bomber said "we don't appoint folks as pro-tems"
so, door is open for parrots fairies, dogs, owls, flowers, eye correction devices, blue erinaceinae, cats, chickens and most importantly candy colored ponies.

@Allart Lets not bother the rest with our discussion: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/rooms/1611/…

@SPArcheon I feel honored that you warn me even when I'm out of the room. :D
Shows how big of an impact I make. ;-)

@Luuklag One Day, it'll be the next 'world language'

> The fact that I'm targeted by everyone is proof that I'm powerful, after all
what do you say @MetaAndrewT., does @ShadowWizard look like a yellow octopus?

11:06 AM
Octo-Shadow

@SPArcheon he may transform soon

(better than Shadow-Pus)
hides below the surface

@MetaAndrewT. this is quite suspicious to be fair...

@Rob funny, my son asked me today out of the blue "dad, how many people around the world eat their poop"? I told him that only one crazy person in the whole world doing it and he's very sick. Hopefully this would push aside any ideas he might be developing. (he doesn't like being sick) :D

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Curiosity will get the better of him

11:12 AM
@Luuklag nah, he really don't like being sick, and proud that he wasn't sick for long time. I do wonder where he got the idea... :/ (not from me, didn't mention such thing)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Probably from the next new "squid games" thing

@Luuklag he didn't watch it (and won't watch it if it's up to me)
Unless it's also in trailers? (this can't be avoided)
He get movie trailers while playing on the phone (ads) and watching YouTube vids.

Yeah, and like these clips on facebook/insta

I'm so out of synch, lol, have neither of those and didn't see any trailer.

You're getting old ;)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 By the way for anyone's knowledge such people who eat poop are called "coprophagia" if I remember my bio lessons right

1:52 PM
@M.A.R. I know you want, just too shy to ask for it.
:D

Y'all will please take that with a grain of salt ^^

Adding extra salt to half-eaten food doesn't suddenly make it a whole proper meal again :P

sdc salty-coffee Tinkeringbell

@Ollie No such command 'salty-coffee'.

Does anyone present actually put salt in their coffee?

1:55 PM
@JitendraSingh correct. Amazing the wikipedia page mentions a very extreme video as example. lol
@Ollie the patience, or the other "p" word? :P
@Ollie no.... ?

Poke... with a sharp stick?

Chocolate perhaps
Poke with a poke stick.

2:34 PM
@Luuklag gone

When I go to this user's profile and look at the list of "top posts (497) their top to posts are both questions, but when I go to the part titled "top questions (334) the top two questions are ordered differently. Does this happen for anybody else?

2:47 PM
mine is titled "newest" not top
if i click top i get top
filtering to just questions i get reversed order on the top 2

Yeah that was what's happening for me.

@JNat In the past 2 1/2 years there's been 3 failed elections, with one appointment, this is why volunteers stepped forward; it's not a case of no attempts, it's a case of barely any interest in the site, users assisting in moderating (Reviews / Flags), nor running as a candidate: freelancing.meta.stackexchange.com/a/298/21562 freelancing.stackexchange.com/election

1 hour later…
5:44 PM
@Rob I know it's not "a case of no attempt," that's not what I was saying. What I said is that an attempt at an election is our current way of getting new mods (in the case of pro-tem mods, sometimes a competitive election is skipped and nominees still appointed). My message was addressing the fact that Juan offered you a position by mistake, because that's not our standard procedure for appointing mods.
Juan himself invited you to share your interest on a Meta post as well as to participate a bit more on the site after that original message.

6:00 PM
I do hope this election gets some engagement. 3rd time's the charm, right?

7:00 PM
@JNat I hope things end out on the upsite. Would be a shame to see a site close down because the ones that wanted to take on the load were not eligible for being a mod.

7:40 PM
@EkadhSingh-ReinstateMonica what is the point in digging up these old posts? meta.stackexchange.com/posts/188780/timeline

8:10 PM
@Spevacus not if it's the game's RNG deciding the charm

@Luuklag I was browsing high voted posts on meta, and decided to suggest an edit. Wasn't specifically trying to bump it or anything.

You might want to consider if you really need to edit such an ancient post the next time.

goes to edit
Adds 'M.A.R. was here'
comes back on chat to lament vandalism of historical sites

@M.A.R. reminds me of this trend "swaffelen" (NSFW) we had in NL a couple years back

I tried to google that but the sheer numbers of aa's were overwhelming
TikTok ruined today's kids.

8:18 PM
Its slapping into things with one's manhood

And then today's kids ruined TikTok.

There were people doing that on the great pyramids etc.

It's a vicious cycle.
And meta posts are just collateral damage.

Yeah tiktok is really F'd up

@Luuklag Oh wow
Marginally worse than TikTok I'd say.

8:21 PM
I think its cultural height predated tiktok

Fidget spinners ruined today's kids.

@M.A.R. luckily mine are too young to have lived in that era

@Spevacus @Luuklag thank you both, one of my badges is for handing out several thousand reputation points; unfortunately the site gets 240 visitors per day, and Spevacus has earned 0.5607 reputation points per day; maintaining that rate it will only take 247.90 days to get the required amount.

10:45 PM
Eh, I should answer and suggest edits more.

Rob
We are the top rated for participation, so that's not helpful (for us getting noticed): freelancing.stackexchange.com/users?tab=participation
Edits don't get approved, there's not enough reviewers; you'll age away.
@Spevacus See:
It's seven not because it's active, it's because they've sat there without two approvals.

Yeah I had noticed that the (albeit few) review queue items were sitting rather stagnant.
Also I love your avatar there. Lol

Rob
Meta is worse, only one person who visits the queues with enough rep.
I went the whole nine yards, excellent corner office with a beautiful view; couldn't afford any furniture though.

I'm sure you'll find something to your tastes :)
