I seriously considered posting this as an answer to the sticky top bar question so I could include alt text. But for now, I've left it as a comment with an external link to the alt text

5:01 AM
@Feeds Changing of the guards: onebox departs.

2 hours later…
6:34 AM
@Feeds So... a Stack Overflow podcast titled "Changing of the Guard" has not a peep about the departure of several long-time devs from Stack. Got it.

7:20 AM
@Mithical The great purge has commenced

7:59 AM
just too late

30 messages moved to Chimney

@Mithical I am of the opinion that the folks who do the blog are not that aware of network goings on.... Also worth a meta post?

also: the podcast might be recorded 6 to 8 weeks ago?

@rene probably, also non-chronological

8:17 AM
Still. Rubs the wrong chord, so to speak.

1 hour later…
9:18 AM
@JNat stackexchange.com/users/21483976/sharmapinky one for the spammer backlog

9:36 AM
@BoltClock'saUnicorn Maybe they copied the wrong game dev? Like... Balam Wonderland?
> a single button will be enough for the full game.

9:54 AM
@SPArcheon I tried the demo and uninstalled after 15 minutes and never touched it again. What a letdown

@BoltClock'saUnicorn Expected a cross between NiGHTS and Little Nemo. Got.... a worthy opponent for Mighty #9

It's that "Turn Milk Sour" button that we heard about.

12:34 PM
Happy Friday. I hope everyone had a good week and has fun plans for the weekend.

Sure. How was yours?

It is almost weekend :)

My reply still stands :P Sure! How was yours? :P

It was a busy week here but good. Looking forward to catching up with some friends that I haven't seen in a while this weekend. Going to a friend's for board games. They just had knee surgery so they aren't able to venture out at the moment
What's everyone else up to?

Eh, not much. But that makes for an excellent weekend imo :D
I'll probably end up reading, gaming and/or crocheting.

12:49 PM
trying to get my code to work will probably how I spend every free bit of time
besides the obvious weekend chores

I haven't crocheted in a long time @Tinkeringbell I kind of miss it. My grandma taught me. My partner's mom crochets. In NYC living space is small so I feel like when I moved here I unconsciously made a decision to only focus on one type of craft because I didn't have the space for all of the supplies.

1:05 PM
@Rosie Heh, yeah. Crafting supplies can take up a lot of space! Unless your other craft involves yarn, then having a few hooks extra doesn't really matter ;)

Rob
1:39 PM
@Rosie Lucky you can afford yarn, with rent prices 2-3x above average: zumper.com/blog/cost-of-living-in-new-york businessinsider.com/…

Yup @Rob rent is absolutely insane here. My partner and I both have rentals that we've kept for now because of being such great details for here but neither is our ideal forever place. We're lucky that we don't have a time crunch when it comes to moving but looking for housing in NYC is such a soul crushing experience

Rob
I guess Marble Hill is far from the server; gotta include rent differential in the wages. 馃榾
Moving is a pain. I've lived 10-15 years in the last few places, basically everyone else moves (even the landlord sells the property) and I'm still there; but I choose carefully for amenities.

1:57 PM
I bought an apartment two years ago, will be getting keys next month... and I don't think I plan on ever moving. Maaaaaaybe I might move once (probably in 20 years then, when the home loan needs to be renewed for the last 10 years anyways), to a place with an extra bedroom I can turn into an office/craft room, but things don't really get better than what I have now.
I keep hearing horror stories from others, but I've luckily never heard anyone mention paying 4k a month in rent alone...

Why are there bile and vitriol tags on MSO?

Probably because someone thought it'd be funny to create those.
If you don't have the reputation to edit in more appropriate tags, I'd flag for a moderator to take a look and fix it.

@Tinkeringbell I thought that was Stack Overflow, where We Hate Fun?

Hence my suggestion to go and get rid of it :)

@Ollie not anymore ...

2:12 PM
rene fixed it.
They'll disappear at 3:00 UTC, yes?

yes, unless they are added again to some question
But my bluriness will come down on whoever attempts that ....

Have you ever considered running for mod on SO?

Yes, but the consideration had a negative outcome.

Rob
> "Bile or gall is a dark-green-to-yellowish-brown fluid produced by the liver of most vertebrates that aids the digestion of lipids ..." Source Wikipedia.

Or, according to that particular user, the digestion of suboptimal design changes...

2:30 PM
@Ollie indigestion, probably :P

Rob
2:47 PM
We shall see if Dai reverts rene's gall.

3:05 PM

3:26 PM
@SPArcheon tricky ;)

As part of the [expiration] cleanup: Think this should be deleted (1 moar if it needs to be)?
It has an upvoted, accepted answer...

If you have not quit your job yet, you are doing 2021 wrong. :)

Well I always do everything wrong, so that's no news :P

user302202
Becoming quite a bit wealthier due to stock options + SO sale does not hurt either.

Probably not no. Combine that with way more places probably offering fully remote working option too now....

What will happen if a meta post announcing a change receives more than 500 downvotes?

The Earth will explode?

4:36 PM
Probably nothing

@MetaAndrewT. Run! run!

@Wolgwang The author loses a stupid amount of reputation, the waffles will burn (!!), the unicorns will sulk (!!!), and we'll have to wait for 6-8 weeks for everything to die down.

Can you repcap on downvotes, or would a +0/-500 question always lose you 1000 rep?

No, you can't cap. Bounties, downvotes, etc.

Wonder what the most rep lost in a single day is, ignoring bounties

Q: erm... I lost 2,134 in reputation

Mari-Lou AYes, I know. When a user is removed, or they delete their accounts their upvotes and downvotes are removed. But tonight I lost 2,134 rep. That's a lot. Seriously. This is no laughing matter. I just wish I could lose weight this easily... And, apart from anything else, I thought the down and up...

@Wolgwang They want to change the license again?

@Dudecoinheringaahing Another contender (though a Staff member mentioned that the reversal was more aggressive than intended and it was lightened later) meta.stackoverflow.com/q/408562/11171084 , at -3429 in one swoop

and to be fair... that is three time less the record....

@SPArcheon which is...?

@Spevacus I thought there was a post here on MSE too... where a lot of users lost votes overnight.

4:48 PM
@Spevacus nuts

Some very much too

@Ollie -1770.

@Tinkeringbell I remember not too long ago that users reported relatively decent rep loss, yeah, presumably from a profile deletion. I don't know the specific one you're speaking about though.
In the event I refer to, I believe I only lost around 60 but others mentioned somewhere in the ballpark of 200 or something like that.
FWIW, I believe it was voluntary self-deletion and the CM handling it decided to remove the votes.

That's why you don't ask people to upvote your posts in exchange for X. Cut the head off the snake and you lose thousands of rep...

@Spevacus Yes, that's the one I was thinking about... and I thought it caused some rep losses into the 1000s as well but maybe I was wrong.

4:52 PM
If it did (quite possible) I'm just not aware of it. Could you find something on it?

Ah, found it I think...

Q: Massive user removal in one night?

Graviton I woke up this morning to find that I suffered a massive drop in reputation points across the network because lots of users had been removed. What happened to those users? Was there a database cleanup?

Ah, this was pre-me then.
That's quite a lot of rep across many profiles!

Yeah. That's why I remembered it XD
For the curious, I also stumbled across meta.stackexchange.com/q/331691/369802

Did chat go down?

You're still typing, aintcha?

5:07 PM
Well, I got like a 5-minute lapse of "the server took too long to respond" on all 3 chat servers, but Q&A sites were normal

same here
I assumed something on my end was borked
Since KPN decided to take control over XS4ALL the service hasn't improved.

5:47 PM
I'm curious what the mean time of tag synonyms suggestion to apply or decline?

6-8

@KevinB -2? right? // anakin_padme.jpg

2 hours later…
Rob
7:23 PM
@伪位蔚蠂慰位蠀蟿 They can sit for several months, with no votes. The system in place has too few users who could vote and a difficult to find interface; usually mods make the approval. See: meta.stackexchange.com/a/265817/282094

@Rob so I'll wait for mod then meta.stackexchange.com/tags/…
BTW I don't get why some my old tag synonym suggestion on that list, but not the recent one. // that's not about MSE, but for ruSO.

Rob
7:54 PM
@伪位蔚蠂慰位蠀蟿 A recent one could have received -2 votes and been removed while better suggestions did not get +4 and so they remain until they hit -2 or +4. See: meta.stackexchange.com/help/privileges/suggest-tag-synonyms - You could try asking a mod in chat or post on the site's per-site-meta a discussion explaining why you think it's necessary (hopefully drawing a tiny number of people to notice, which is hard to do on some sites). See my link above, the related questions, and
It's not a good system for most sites, reasonably succesful for Stack Overflow and not too bad here at MSE.

Rob
8:26 PM
@伪位蔚蠂慰位蠀蟿 It's difficult to actually find somewhere with pending approvals, but when you do the suggestion is usually old: physics.stackexchange.com/tags/… space.stackexchange.com/tags/… workplace.stackexchange.com/tags/…
- The place to offer a Feedback with an improvement suggestion (and a Bounty, a couple of times) is here: meta.stackexchange.com/q/329687/282094

2 hours later…
10:15 PM
@Rob I was merely talking more in general about screen-shot tools.

Rob
10:55 PM
@user3342816 Should have directed the reply to them, then.

11:17 PM
Was only expanding on the topic about screen capturing at the time. Sorry for the noise.
