Hi. I have been going back and forth about posts/comments/answers. I need to understand something better.

It was suggested if a comment in a post is no longer useful then I should flag it. Two things: I thought flagging was only for serious issues, since it pings all moderators. And since I can delete my own. Isn't flagging others comments for whatever reason violate their right to comment? (Regardless of the value of the comment)

I have been getting into plenty of discussion through comments, even on posts that originally asked about how to better remedy the SE solution to move it to chat. Just for the sake of the discussion for future reference I can see preserving the question (even if closed), but is oftwen filled with extra comments that are now of no use to the flow of the post.

Also, consider reading the comment privilege, particularly the "When shouldn't I comment?" section if you haven't. Some types of comments are just not useful and worth deleted.

@DavidPostill TY. I understood I should only flag comments that violate CoC. Not fluff. My case in point is the question a user had only addressed a small part of a problem. That through comment discussion had been ironed out. The idea now is remove the comments that arent useful in the resolution for future reference.
