@Xnero Here is one such example.

@hyper-neutrino I fell asleep waiting for the script to kick in, so...
o.O
damn. well that's certainly something :D
thanks for testing lol
yeah, this is like trying to undelete a roomba'd question and realizing it getting deleted again on the next roomba day

I was expecting Tink to still be asleep, but she already posted 22 mins ago
So no gaming all through the nigt ;)
@Luuklag The backyard neighbour's rooster woke me up at 5:30, I went and closed all the windows I had still open, slept a little more... but I was up by 8:30.
Like I said, I was just waiting for the house to cool down before bed :P I think I was in bed a little past midnight.
You got to love roosters
Especially when they're dead... 'halve haantjes' are tasty.
07:39
er, I thought SD posts only made it here if they were still up after 5m? or am I remembering that wrong?
@hyper-neutrino yes
huh. the post was gone before SD picked it up. could that be why it still posted here?
Don't know, you should ask in charcoal ;)
fair enough :p

1 hour later…
09:04
@hyper-neutrino yes. If you see the report on Meta Smoke, you'll notice the " (deleted X minutes after being reported)" is missing.
Not sure if it's a bug or not.
09:30
@Luuklag I'm pretty bad at double negation but I think I got it right at that one: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/366557/… ?
double negating @rene
If there is an moderator for SO here, please help with this pending edit that has been in that state for a couple of days:

Ah yeah, I missed the "not" part
@Curious next time please remove the "thanks" and other fluff. See meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2950/…
Thanks @rene

@hyper-neutrino MS never registered that that post was deleted, so it's possible that, because that deletion was never detected, 5 minutes elapsed and it shot that report out to other rooms under the presumption that it was still alive. The cause of why that happened is unknown, maybe some weird server foo.
@Spevacus youshouldblamecaching.com
Probably. Lol

Lack of ca$hing.
Wouldn't mind some more ca$hing.
13:04
@Spevacus ah, okay. i suppose i will refrain from being too fast in the future :p
i nuked it in 10s lol
@hyper-neutrino Naw, be as fast as you want. Smokey typically recognizes when a post is deleted, it's just that in this case it missed it. If you're looking for someone to blame, uh...
picks an admin's name out of a hat

@Luuklag It's Catija's fault.
Sorry Cat, it appears to be your fault :/
If anyone wants to flag some R/A: gaming.stackexchange.com/q/386986/259373

@Ollie gone
thx
@Luuklag Why? It's not R/A, unlike the other one, and doesn't even look NAA-
@Luuklag a Google search link of "Amathlaah"

This sums it all up...
@Luuklag My understanding is that Yaakov has an answer to replace Rosie's that's being approved before being posted - but there's a better answer coming.
@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard Yeah, we need SOTV...
@MetaAndrewT. true, but how is it related? ;)
huh... how have I never heard of that one
@Catija it would be nice to get a comment reply saying such thing then, instead of keeping us all hanging in the air. Thanks for the update! :)
@KevinB top secret
The TV is in the company cage.
Cloaked as a coffee machine.
14:25
funny thing is we had a letter letter TV section around that time too
?
What is letter letter TV section?
we being wher ei work
similar to SOTV
@KevinB oh for your workplace? Maybe the CEO saw that post and wanted such thing too. :D
doubtful
Looking for the hidden TV, found something even better.

@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard I just found out about 30 minutes ago myself.

@Catija I parsed that as Rosie's answer is being approved between posted ._.
@Catija hm. The twitter post about Teresa's State of the stack describes her as the CTO... isn't she the CPO?
Yes
... She's both

PEDANT!

@hyper-neutrino I just mentally switch them whenever Geek writes them.
@Catija LOL. i have a friend who'd always get them messed up. he's gotten better with it (still not perfect) but I usually just don't notice
just felt like being pedantic ;)
😉
@Catija fair. Thanks!
some error notifications are acting weird today
Instead of getting a targeted notification, like you can't perform action x for another y seconds, i'm getting a system error popup
and a 503 in the console
like it's falling back to a catchall
15:21
Here?
on SO
in this case i was editing a comment
the rate limit popped up the system error rather than the rate limit error
it wasn't the first time i had seen that popup today though, i assumed it was just a fluke the first time
but i don't recall what first triggered it
seems to be fine now
OK. If you hit it again, take a screenshot and report it?

1 hour later…
16:47
@rene Why?
Not 100% sure at the moment.
Looks pretty darn spammy to me, though.
@Catija he responded in CHQ here and I'm wondering if we talk about the same/correct MS report. But he is obviously busy and Thomas is doing live debugging in CHQ so the transcript is a bit of a mess.
I can see why it might not be. It follows the patterns but it's possible that the person's just genuinely trying to understand something that they can share with their clients.
> I work for [company] that makes fireplaces and one of the questions we get from time to time is whether bi-fold doors on the fireplace should be left open or closed when there's a fire lit...
That's a legit question. The company link is unnecessary but it doesn't necessarily make it intentionally spam.
Okay. Then it needs a serious edit.
Also, the IP actually matches where the company is located, so it's not, for example, a big spam farm in Asia or something.
16:55
given the prominent - bold even - link, I'd say the intent is definitely spam
... I'm making assumptions about where spam comes from based on when they tend to be busy.
Thing is there's no question, and the link isn't to another forum discussion or question or anything, it's just to the company homepage, so... not sure. I am very confident in TPUing this.
@JohnDvorak The link isn't bold on site - that's in Charcoal only.
The question is sorta in the title.
The title is the question.
16:56
oh
It's really common for first time users to make that sort of error.
oh wait, I forgot about that
my bad. i am not used to the title being relevant *facepalm*
I'm not going to object an CM. I follow the reasoning. I might even share your doubts. Maybe this one should be undeleted and the spam flags cleared....
Point and laugh at the Code Golf mod ;)
It might be appropriate to just let this off with a warning about how to avoid spamming (I think we have a link for that). It could be a legit question - the link and mention of where people are asking this is totally unnecessary though, unless they have a forum link for context, which would be appropriate.
16:58
Well - there's stuff a local mod can check to confirm
Could do either way but not with public info
Worth mentioning that their profile is also very spammy.
might apply ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi :)

Q: Fireplace bi-fold doors, should they be opened or closed when you have a fire?

Mike MonaghanI work for a company that makes glass for fireplaces and we often get questions from customers about whether glass bi-fold doors on a fireplace should remain open when the fire is going or should be closed. Is there a safety reason for one or the other? A performance reason?

At the very least, it can be a learning opportunity.
In 6 to 8 weeks all fireplace glass door companies have posts on diy.se .... ;)
If they're asking good question, status-completed?
user334271
May I ask a software recommendation question here? As it room often entertains casual chat.
user334271
?
17:05
@Catija I'm happy to tag you as such ;)
@AlwaysConfused did you already check softwarerecs.stackexchange.com that was offered in Charcoal?
user334271
Ok
@AlwaysConfused I did a cursory google and found Web Whiteboard by ExplainEverything. Might be worth checking out, as you did ask for a whiteboard software with audio chat.
@Catija Yeah, I saw the question in the title, so it's possible that the user accidentally posted what looks very much like spam. Maybe applying the spam penalty on the user is a bit harsh; a warning about promotion may suffice.
As far as SD feedback goes though, that looks so close to spam that it seems to fit TP perfectly. I'd want the system to catch that, even if it was posted unintentionally. I don't know if this is the best chatroom to discuss Charcoal feedback (first time in here really), but as rene points out, the transcript in CHQ is a bit cluttered at the moment.
@AlwaysConfused 85 results on whiteboard: softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/search?q=whiteboard you can narrow down that number or hand check those results.
@cigien We talk about most everything here.
:)

17:08
Yes i am filtering
@Spevacus Ah, cool, thanks :)
@cigien it is my fault as I commented to smokey in this room that undo challenged it and that brought Catija into the conversation.
I agree with you, though - TP seems to fit fine here, even if a spam flag is too final for some. Curious to see what the potential spammer's next post will be, though.
At least I now have a reason to post on meta.diy why my spam flag was disputed ...
Resurrecting the post is fine, I think. I don't think I would have done it myself; I would probably have left a comment after deleting telling the OP to fix it themself and raise a flag after doing so. Anyway, I can't bring myself to FP that, so the user is currently blacklisted, and their next post will be reported. I expect that will tell us a lot about the user's intent.
17:17
@cigien Sure, the post as-is (as-was?) seems to match a TP - what y'all do with stuff that gets caught, ticks all the boxes, and still somehow isn't spam... you're the expert there. :)
@Catija Why wouldn't a company who makes glass for stove doors already know the answer? And if they didn't they should be redirecting their customer to the manufacturer of the stove in question?
A simple google search:
> A popular misconception is that fireplace doors are able to increase the efficiency and heat output of masonry fireplaces.

The purpose of glass doors on a fireplace is not to increase heat output or efficiency of open fires.

Manufacturers of fireplace doors typically state that the doors must be open during and for a while after fires. Studies and research have also shown that closed fireplace doors do not increase either heat output or efficiency
I vote spam
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but giving someone the benefit of the doubt and if the question's not a duplicate, then... why not have the information?
Is it possible to slap the poster with -100 (formally), dissociate the post, and despam it?
At the least what I've done is tell someone "you're spamming our site, that's not welcome and it's actively prevented"...
I don't really think that's necessary. 1 the poster doesn't have any rep to take away. 2 they'll probably not come back anyway.
@Catija Expert might be a stretch, but thanks :) Yeah, I'm fine with the feedback on the report being in the current state. As to the spamminess of the post, the fact that the OP hasn't responded with even "oops, sorry .." makes me suspicious as to their intent. OPs posting questions that look very much like spam, and then immediately ignoring activity on the post, doesn't feel right.
17:25
the lack of response is never proof of malice
Immediately ignoring activity on a post is... normal for most people.
@Catija sadly
I got used to it on M&TV when people would ask ID questions and then never return to do anything, not answer comments on their question, add details, notice that there's answers... nothing.
@DavidPostill Looks like an answer :P
Oh, that is sad :( Well, ok, maybe it's not spam then. I guess time will tell in this case.
it is spam
17:28
Well, yes, that's what I think. I'm just willing to go with Catija and give the OP the benefit of doubt on this one.
@Catija I've answered it - with two different refererences.
Let's see what happens ...
@DavidPostill Nice!

this will help unblock me contributing to more edits
Not sure this is the best room to ask for us to review your suggested edits, given that this is a chat room on the Meta SE server and not an SO chat room.
okay, any suggestions on any rooms in SO?
I'm pretty confident SOCVR don't take those, so that is not an option.
I don't actually think there is a room that coordinates suggested edits or general review efforts that isn't SOCVR, and as rene said, that's not an option.
I will say, though, that I have noticed the suggested edit queue being full pretty darn often again over there on SO.
I had one room in mind but that one didn't make it past freezing time so that is not an option any more.
@Curious are you editing in a specific tag?
17:50
@Spevacus yeah that's true!
@rene I edit as many new questions I can for minor formatting and grammar.
if yes, you could carefully ask if a room that focuses on that tag is willing to review your pending edits. Not all rooms are open for that so ask first before you drop your list in.
okay @rene
@Curious do know that this are moderators. While they can review they are always busy doing important other things. You''re looking for users with edit privileges that come at 2,000 rep
okay understood @rene thanks
