No need for TikTok, watch this while I retrieve your solution:
@above_4 Request a Rooms Configuration for The Tavern, msg_types & no-<reason>: This room won't receive reports with the specified reason (e.g no-all-caps body)
Remove links at beginning and links at end

Is it better to flag an offensive comment as RA, or to flag it with a custom reason and explain my reasoning if it might not seem obvious at first glance?
In particular, a comment condemning Palestinians in general as terrorists.

hm
@forestdistrustsStackExchange that's the comment flag options... and uh....
I can't think that one that won't fit that situation from a certain point of view.
Its not much help but pick the option that works the best. The first if its obviously terrible, the second if its less obviously terrible...
I think calling a whole group of people terrorists is probably fairly obviously not ok
So unless you think it absolutely needs explaining - or its a flag asking for a review of several comments or a conversation , I suspect a custom flag would be vaguely redundant
....
Actually...

@JourneymanGeek I suppose during such a politicized time, it would be difficult to do this as everyone is going to have strong opinions on this.

@forestdistrustsStackExchange the first one feels like the 'best' option
@forestdistrustsStackExchange You're telling me :D
I'm quite aware of that, but the 'right' thing sometimes trumps your feelings over an issue

So I'd suggest going for the first
Ah..
So, here's kinda a thing
> Palestinian groups
Wouldn't mean all Palestinians no?
It would mean specific groups

6:14 AM
But it groups up all Palestinian groups that want their land back.
It's not just, say, Hamas (although even them I don't consider terrorists - and neither does the UN).

Are there any peaceful counter examples?

Sure. The BDS movement.

Yeaaah, at this point, with context, its a minefield
So you could try a custom flag - but it very much comes down to how the mod "interprets" palestinian groups

@JourneymanGeek The worst part is that the comment is on an answer by a mod which asserts straight up that Hamas defending themselves has no purpose other than to terrorize.
On Skeptics.SE, without any references to show that.

@forestdistrustsStackExchange Sooo.... here's the point where I really don't think I want to argue on politics and the rightness of the statement.

6:16 AM
Yeah we probably won't agree on this conflict. :P

I'm merely trying to advice/try to work out the most effective flagging option
and I'm not sure what it would be here.
@forestdistrustsStackExchange that's quite evident

Thanks. Was just a matter of time before someone got mad and reported me for being on the "wrong" side of the conflict. But I stand by my words and will continue to support BDS.

lol
I won't say 'please' unless If I was threatening :D
I understand and respect that

Anyway, politics is so polarizing. Let's talk about... religion!
(kidding)

lol
Or Text editors...
:D

6:30 AM
lol
I vaguely remember how to use that from an old job
Never quite wrapped my head around the two modes, and that system was primitive enough to to use the jkl(?) cursor system

hjkl
And that's not about being primitive, it's about efficiency. I exclusively use hjkl.

It's so much easier to navigate.

lol
Options are nice

It used to be ed, which was the old one. Then vi, which supported rewriting on the screen. Then vim, which is the improved version and is used widely today.

6:33 AM
(mostly nano on linux terminal, sublime text on everything else... mostly cause of the auto-save)

And then there's emacs which is basically an entire goddamn operating system.

lol
and that blue background one on dos whose name I always forgot

Midnight Commander?

naw
MS-DOS Editor, commonly just called edit or edit.com, is a character-based text editor that comes with MS-DOS (since version 5) and 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. It superseded edlin, the standard editor in earlier versions. Until MS-DOS 6.22 it was actually QBasic running in editor mode, but from DOS 7 (Windows 95) QBasic was removed and MS-DOS Editor became a standalone program. Editor is sometimes used as a substitute for Notepad on Windows 9x, where Notepad is limited to small files only. Editor can edit files that are up to 65,279 lines and up to approximately 5 MB in size. MS-D...
._.

Well MC was also blue.
from wikipedia

6:39 AM
Everything in dos was blue or black... :D
and MC is a NC clone isn't it?

Wierdly I'm half certain my first PC was too old for even MS dos editor...
@forestdistrustsStackExchange It was started by Miguel de Icaza in 1994[1] as a clone of the then-popular Norton Commander.

So I changed my avatar to a political one (I do know political avatars are allowed!), but it's not showing up in either this chat or the other chats. Is this a caching issue?
(I feel like I asked this before, but I keep forgetting. Probably because chat kills my brain cells)

Cache

@forestdistrustsStackExchange want me to kick it?

6:42 AM
Yeah it's certainly a cache issue.
@JourneymanGeek Will that work on non-MSE chats?

@forestdistrustsStackExchange I can do it for you on the main server but not SO
Did on MSE

I never use SO anyway.

@forestdistrustsStackExchange done

Of course it did :D
Else I'd be very confused and suggest to log a ticket :D
(in theory it would catch up... eventually)

6:46 AM
I wonder why it's not automatic.

@forestdistrustsStackExchange My 'guess' is that the chat system syncs up avatars with the main/parent account periodically
So I just manually refresh it from that account and.. it works

You'd think that the action of changing an image would trigger it right away.

\o/
Maybe its too 'expensive'

How often do people change images? O_O

@MetaAndrewT. did I cover the mods use-case enough in my answer: meta.stackoverflow.com/a/407690/578411 ? I still don't fully grasp what you're using those tagsynonyms for

6:49 AM
@forestdistrustsStackExchange Rarely :D
And most folks figure it'll update eventually?

still too often

So you'd think it wouldn't be expensive at all. :P
Imagine if it updated instantly and had no ratelimit.
Someone could implement an animated avatar by constantly uploading images.

@forestdistrustsStackExchange \o/ Maybe
@forestdistrustsStackExchange it'll still likely only update on refresh

I generally need to refresh to see your 'new' (slightly delayed) ava

6:51 AM
@JourneymanGeek yep

Well hypothetically. I don't remember if I gave it a kick the last time

I think you did, when I switched back to æ-tan.
But I try to use political avatars when I can (as I did with Monica). It gets old seeing anime characters and website mascots when there's opinions to display. :P

@rene it's okay, it started when I was doing science on tag synonym.

@MetaAndrewT. Science ._.

*yawns*

6:54 AM
/me hands Mithical some coffee
Damn this place needs a proper /action command.

hands @Mithical a flaming tin of sardines

sardines? that's a new one

Now that'd smell horrible.

@JourneymanGeek well, I didn't expect creating tag synonym both from and to non-existent tags to work and think it would be nuked on daily tag cleaning script, but alas... it worked.

@Mithical tuna?
I donno, its fishy.

6:55 AM
it was tuna, yes
@forestdistrustsStackExchange thanks, but I've already got a cup

There are two issues here one of which is that the traffic light is broken ....

Is that the Ever Given Memorial Bridge?

I'll see if that idea gets any traction ...

Or if it gets stuck in court.

I think only RWS will put a claim forward here. But I assume the insurance company will check if someone else is to blame

None of the answers here actually answer the question

@EkadhSingh uh. Its people hunting down questionable grammar
One of the 'interesting' side effects of trying to get rid of meta as a feedback source is...
People insist on using meta as a feedback source

“ Could this please be updated to reflect more closely on what moderators actually do?” was the question. The question was not “please hunt down questionable grammar in the linked post”

Apparently the community broadly disagrees

Okay

It's Meta. Things work differently and in surprising ways.

12:47 PM
Still,
Aren’t answers supposed to, answer the question?

"From a certain point of view"

It's... not really a question.
There's not really much to answer there.

"We took your views into account and got someone to rewrite the offending parts"

@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard It's absolutely amazing how far Google Translate has gotten. I remember the days when anything you put into it would be spit out an incomprehensible amalgam of nonsensical half-phrases for all but the simplest of inputs.

11:47 PM
Huh, is SE going to also increase font size?
Even though posts are already squished with...
a couple of different
words per line because
they wrap due to the
tremendous amount
of space taken up by
the sidebars and ads
