@Tinkeringbell looked that up on wiki :D
> Although it is a vital raw material with diverse applications, including the manufacture of products like polysorbate 20 and polyethylene glycol (PEG) that are often more effective and less toxic than alternative materials, ethylene oxide itself is a very hazardous substance
oh noes...
> . At room temperature it is a flammable, carcinogenic, mutagenic, irritating, and anaesthetic gas.
Sounds fun
Which begs the question
how do you dip a cotton swab... in a gas

6:44 AM
That's some nice marketing buzzwords.

Also, I finally got my new keyboard

I saw the boxes on Twitter... Not the finished product though

7:00 AM
The Key one?

@JourneymanGeek keep it below 10,7 C

@rene naw, a drop ctrl
I don't have a c and a V :D
@Tinkeringbell alas, it arrived fully assembled
I need to do some config though (disable capslock, adjust LEDs etc)

why would you want to disable capslock?

the keyboard came with a free/spare set and I got the default colour by mistake :D
@Luuklag I never use it

@JourneymanGeek you rather keep your shift key pressed?
OR YOU NEVER WRITE ANYTHING IN CAPITALS?

7:11 AM
I rather keep my shift key pressed

that's going to be one sore pinky finger ;)

@JourneymanGeek I just saw. It looks like a keyboard :P

@Tinkeringbell ah, but you can swap the switched without a soldering iron

That sounds like a good thing :P
I'm not much of a keyboard connoisseur. Bought mine a few years back together with the mouse, and both are still working. Though I should put the keycaps in the washing machine again someday.

@Tinkeringbell I don't think this keyboard I have can even detach the keycaps. It's a really flat apple thingy

7:25 AM
I don't like really flat apple thingies.
I bought an 'old fashioned' one, with high keys XD
"gaming keyboard"

I like this flat one, but its a bit at an angle, so not as troublesome as the laptop keyboard itself
And it has two additional USB ports, not that they're good for much of anything but I can connect the mouse to it
Otherwise the USB cable of the mouse would be too short to be usefull

@Tinkeringbell oh this is mechanical, so its as loud as you want and has high keys
and in theory I can get any sorta keys I want as long as they're compatible with the defacto standard switch brand

7:43 AM
@JourneymanGeek That sounds nice! I've seen some really crafty mechanical keyboards on random internet places :)

lol yup
also after spending much too much time swapping keys, I determined my 20 dollar aliexpress keyboard has 2 faulty keys :D
I am in possession of some free time and I bought a key sampler set so I might just swap them (and other keys) with random switches :D
(Which will require soldering)

Replace your capslock with an on-off switch ;)

I couldn't live without my capslock.
I need to shout at too many people.

A: What is a permanent solution for black mold?

FabbyDepending on the environment this is happening in (pets, children, food preparation, ...) this permanent solution might not apply. A bit of back-ground: Mould is one of the oldest life forms on Earth and thus pretty resistant to pretty much everything... You can temporarily stop growth, but ev...

still the best one.
> Final warning: If you would want to apply all of the above, please allow sufficient time between applications as mixing the vitriol with the Potassium Cyanide will generate Hydrogen Cyanide: a gas smelling of nice raw almonds that kills any oxygen-breathing life-form on Earth within seconds!

@SPArcheon I thought the only permanent solution to get rid of any kind of mold is creating circumstances in which it can't grow, or removing all the spores and making sure no spores ever get back in. Neither seems doable for a regular house :P

Yeah that's a nice one. Too bad they all focus on using chemicals, whilst UV-C could be a fine solution as well

@SPArcheon I mean Lifehacks is a joke, but that answer is just outright irresponsible
KCN is not something an amateur should handle at all

A: What office equipment can I use to safely observe a solar eclipse?

panonskiRemember the floppy discs? We dug one out from our storage, opened it up and looked through the film sheet. Alternatively, a friend of mine took a lighter and a glass cup mat. He placed the glass mat above the lighter to get some soot onto it and watched it through the mat.

I also don't think cyanide will kill mold

waffles
the read back wasn't as good when it popped up in my weird mind.

@MadScientist at least not the spores

It will be kind of Whack-a-mold

The toxicity in humans is because cyanide binds to hemoglobin, last I checked mold doesn't have blood

Napalm?
SharePoint?

SharePoint is lethal

8:28 AM
@rene Microsoft Exchange as well
especially when you are a supplier of chees to Albert Heijn

Yeah, on the plus side: I have this week some new cheese I never had before to try

I love how they stated: Our DigSec was on point, but then be closed down by ransomware

They need a proper post-mortem and if possible make it public.

8:43 AM
Also, these feel nice. For some reason cough my old keyboard turned from clicky to silent, and the replacement felt off. Only complaint I have is the keys are hard to read with the backlight off, and I need it till I get used to this keyboard

8:53 AM
@JourneymanGeek is the lay-out non-standard?
@rene yeah

@Luuklag its standard but .... I've been using my old keyboard for a decade +
Its going to take some time to adjust

Don't you 10 finger blind type then?

Oh I kinda 2 finger blind type
ish
Never learnt to type formally

ah that sucks

Rob
9:53 AM
@JourneymanGeek True programmers type one-handed, the other hand is for the coffee and cigarette.

10:05 AM
@Rob Aim: Never become a true programmer :D

@Rob Reading this, with my coffee and cigarette in hand, was quite disconcerting.

Rob
Two (or more) handed typing would be far worse.

10:28 AM
@terdon Clearly you were the one who was prophesied! Granted, the prophesy was "He will have a coffee and cigarette in hand" and not much else.

I'll skip on the cigarettes

11:18 AM
@Luuklag no no, they meant sausage cigars, not actual cigarettes. Technically doesn't even contain pork, so halal as well.

@JohnDvorak I think the packaging says it all.
Look at how they compare to ones at 3x the price. Note the superior wrap and individual lot numbering:

1:04 PM
@JohnDvorak I can agree to those
@Rob One fine example, but then replace the coffee with liquor
@JNat another cross site spammer for the backlog: stackexchange.com/users/20954865/clear-exam?tab=accounts

Rob
@Luuklag I can't think of a liquor that wouldn't alter the taste of the cigar. Some people would accept whiskey, but I would prefer something flavorless; like vodka. Those smokes are 20 bucks each.

@Rob Agreed, but then again a good single malt can really enhance the flavour of a cigar, and vice versa

Rob
Funny how cigars seem to have gotten much less expensive, and booze so much more. Decades ago, when I smoked cigars, the good ones were half that diameter and slightly more - so, cigars ~2.5 cheaper, and booze ~2.5x more.

Have they gotten cheaper relatively to other things, or has their price actually gone down?
Things like e.g. more taxes on booze could make it appear cigars are getting cheaper.

1:29 PM
@terdon look to your left, you'll see the camera @Rob planted there. ;)

I keep getting upvotes for one-liner on SO.

@rene someone disliking the giant S I guess ;)

@Tinkeringbell isn't your parrot sense tingling? Or the batteries of the surveillance cams you left in my room died out?

@SPArcheon We're having a guest (my brother), so I haven't really been paying attention for the past few hours... I also expect I will be away most of the night :)

Thanks for fixing though! ;)

@ShadowTheVaccinatedWizard should we try to make Tink switch to a MLP parrot?

4:35 PM
@SPArcheon Ahhh. Not going to happen, I don't like toxic positivity.

toxic? us poor ponies?
;_;
@Tinkeringbell But you know... Shadow is right. You wanted a red parrot, right?
So a red parrot it shall be.
Here.
ask for a red parrot, get a red parrot.
No need to thank me :P

@SPArcheon oh, inside the fish belly?

5:14 PM
The blood parrot cichlid (or more commonly and formally known as parrot cichlid; no binomial nomenclature) is a hybrid thought to be between the midas and the redhead cichlid, although the true parent species has not been confirmed by breeders. The fish was first bred in Taiwan around 1986. Blood parrots should not be confused with other parrot cichlids or salt water parrotfish (family Scaridae). Natural colors of the fish are red, yellow, and grey: other colors are injected by breeders. Because this hybrid cichlid has various anatomical deformities, controversy exists over the ethics of creating...
known has Blood parrot or Red parrot.
Just an attempt at hijacking the requirements
I don't think Tink specified that the parrot had to be a bird.

5:42 PM
@SPArcheon I also don't remember even specifying I was looking for a new avatar :P but when I do, I shall be more specific :)

@Tinkeringbell Can I get some advice from you about bounties?

@Tinkeringbell I still see that comment as a desperate plea for someone to find you a less uncouth-shaped avatar.

@SPArcheon Oh, don't worry :) I'm perfectly satisfied with the shape, size and color of this one!
@AnnZen Tomorrow? I'm on mobile rn. The rest of the room can probably also answer ;)
It's annoying to type advice on mobile, the messages get too long :)

@Tinkeringbell Oh, okay. Thanks!

@Luuklag I protected the question but I assume they land on the next active question then ...

I considered throwing protection on there but yeah, I don't think there's much about that particular post that's attractive to them. They just post on whatever they stumble upon, I imagine.
I felt a little bad because I had unprotected The "Teams is now free for 50 users forever" post and it immediately got another spam answer that re-protected it. I guess it's fine if it's protected now. I imagine most new questions about it are being asked on MSO, not on that post.

@Spevacus I edited my answer earlier today so that put it on the active tab

6:23 PM
So what you're saying is... The spammers are trying to steal your spotlight?
:)

right ;)

7:05 PM
@Spevacus Just a tip of advice: try to share the link to the low-quality review if you can. This way, users who don't have 20k rep but do have 2k rep can recommend to delete.
...and delete votes from 20k+ users will also count toward the count of users who recommended to delete, whereas they won't if they vote externally.

7:27 PM
@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog I'll do that in the future, thanks for the tip.

@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog please don't use our real names if we haven't chosen to do so.
JNat and I in particular intentionally chose to use pseudonyms.

10:19 PM
@Catija Sorry. I pulled those from blog and meta posts so I thought it would be OK.
The main reason I put those in is to avoid the confusion that one user had, with an email signed by Juan Garza but no staff account by that name.

I understand. Honestly if I could have prevented my name from ever appearing, I would have but we weren't as careful about protecting visible staff's privacy until recently.
Juan's probably okay with it but some of us never use our real name, even internally.

Is there a way to see a list of all a users messages in a specific room?

@Xnero In the info page, all users listed to the right of the "Tavern on the Meta" panel are currently in the room.

user707129
@Spevacus That's not what I meant, sorry for not making myself clear. Is there a way to see a list of all my messages for this room, for example?

Oh my, that was my fault. I read that as "Is there a way to see a list of all users in a room" and glossed over the "messages" part. Whoops!

user707129
I realised that you can do something like this chat.stackexchange.com/search?q=+&user=ID&room=ID but unfortunately the search query can't be empty.

Yeah I tried that myself. I tried searching for a vowel to see if I could get anything with that vowel in there, but no dice.

Had a pleasant discussion with a Covidiot, as Tink often calls them
The cherry on top is when they can't speak good English, so when tightened into a corner, that becomes an excuse
Eh well, I'm a bit of a masochist sometimes
