On an unrelated note, someone mentioned that they asked here about posting PGP-encrypted messages and some mod said that was against the rules because they "can't read what's inside it". Is this correct, or was the answer only relevant for Tavern's own rules?

@TheforestofReinstateMonica there's a standing rule that if its not in english, and its flagged, its ok to mark the flag as valid - we have a workaround of asking around for a mod who speaks said language, especially for languages that SO or SE supports...

no one can read PGP, and tbh, if you don't want to talk in public, you shouldn't be using a public chatroom

@JourneymanGeek There was one case I think two days ago where someone wanted to say something private to another member (something about a security vulnerability, I think), so they used PGP. There's no reason why anyone would have flagged it, though.

But I suppose it's not too much of a hassle to link to a paste with the PGP text.

It'd just be a lot easier in such situations to just post it straight up.

@JourneymanGeek I'm 99.9% sure that if I flagged any non-English text here, I'd get banned. :D

Also, my GOD there's a lot of link rot in some of my older posts... :/

In some cases I can't find an archive in web.archive.org or archive.is.

it makes it a one off thing, full context, and I think if a mod noticed it in time they might even remove the suspension

@TheforestofReinstateMonica I do that, but occasionally someone reads over your shoulder (shoulder surfs) and says that you posted it publicly in chat; so it's their business too. IRL if two people were talking and some random person snuck up and starting listening in, taking sides or attacking them both, there's few people I've seen that appreciate that - but in chat and forums they rely on anonymity to make new rules.

@Rob SEDE stores the result of a query in querycache table. The exact same query will, when "run", be served from the cache instead of actual being executed by the SQL Engine. The cache doesn't expire until the sunday refresh. See also: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/325802/data-explorer-cache/…

So a bit of a circular closure happened: an author asked a question on Hardware Recommendations and it was closed with a directive to ask on Super User, and so they asked the same question on Super User and that was in turn closed with a directive to ask on Hardware Recommendations.

If we still had too localized as close reason, that one would apply here. You don't describe a generalized problem that applies to a wide audience, your are asking for consulting on your specific case and the answers are at best entertaining for you but not for many others. Either ask for an hardware device that can sustain a strict specified workload, that can be asked on hw.se. Or "invent" a problem with your setup that you need a solution for, as that can be asked on SU. Asking us to decide for you are not a great fit for the Q/A model. — rene 17 mins ago

@rene With a bit of JS trickery, it is still possible to vote to close questions for that reason. And since HR only requires one vote to close questions, using that trick would have closed the question with that reason.

That will work for me. I only asked David as he commented earlier in the transcript on "the case". I didn't want to give the impression that I didn't value his opinion and went straight to an MSE mod that happens to be an SU mod as well.

@rene Thanks for your answer but I think @Glo and myself found that where time is concerned that doesn't seem to be the case, the value varies. Take this query for example: data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/125988/… - enter a different value to bust the cache and frequently the time is different; yet one would expect the migration date to remain the same (for a week).

From what you are saying (1 + rand() - rand()) - (1 + GETUTCDATE() - GETUTCDATE()) (rewritten correctly, using proper T-SQL syntax) should equal zero (due to caching) while the true result would obviously be different.
