@Shadow10YearsWizard The existing post was by a user with the same(-ish) name, and this addressed comments on that post (linked by Rob). A moderator has since deleted some of the comments and combined the two answers, including the link you identified as spam.

Is this comment red-flagable?

@rene no. Surely not red flag, but might fit "unfriendly".

Okay, my comment repsonse is borderline as well then

Eye for an eye, unfriendly for unfriendly? ;)
Anyway, agree with your view.
@RyanM oh. Well, the mod has the last saying and if that's really a spammer, it's on that mod's hands. ;)

@Shadow10YearsWizard Spam hands
yesterday, by John Dvorak
how do you tell a male hand from a female hand @Rob?

spam hands = hams for short? Or is it spands?

Rob
Alas, ham fisted means clumsy and doesn't refer to the appearance of one's hands.

@JohnDvorak Previous explanation here and in surrounding comments:
Jul 19 at 18:37, by Rob
The digit ratio is the ratio of the lengths of different digits or fingers. The 2D:4D ratio is the most studied digit ratio and is calculated by dividing the length of the index finger of a given hand by the length of the ring finger of the same hand. A number of studies have shown a correlation between the 2D:4D digit ratio and various physical and behavioral traits. == Measurement == The digit length is typically measured on palmar (ventral) hand, from the midpoint of bottom crease (where the finger joins the hand) to the tip of the finger. However, recently measurement of digit on dorsal hand...

Hey people!
Is there any question (in MSE) (probably a feature request or discussion post) regarding letting the users decide if their posts can be shared on Twitter or not?

@technastic_tc you mean by the SE twitter bot?

@rene In Ask Ubuntu, my posts are shared by Ask Ubuntu Twitter account. I've no idea of SE Twitter bot.

@technastic_tc this one: askubuntu.com/posts/1265991/timeline ?
tweeted at sep, 2nd, 15:00 UTC

Yeah..

I can't find a particular FR that asks for users to be able to opt-out of that event from happening on their questions. If you proceed on asking I would careful word that as in general FR's that only benefits the asker without a clear positive incentive for the broader community you might be in for 6 to 8 down votes. There have been mishaps before, based on a few posts I scanned so you could us that in your justification for the feature.
here is a SEDE query for all Tweeted questions on AskUbuntu: data.stackexchange.com/askubuntu/query/1340890
Let me know if you need more stats to back your FR.

Someone is allowed to create a website consisting of only your posts, as long as the source is properly attributed; @technastic_tc, I'm not understanding how removing only the Twitter sharing helps hide your questions, though it definitely will reduce their exposure significantly (in some cases).

@Rob The point is not about hiding. Many users might be unaware of their posts being shared in Twitter. Some might not like their posts being shared in Twitter. So it would be better if this was made opt-in choice.

Rob
Same for Facebook, should that be opt-out too?

2:47 PM
I was unaware of down votes. Where can I opt-out?

Rob
At least you won't have to worry about it being a duplicate - as rene mentioned, quite the opposite.

@rene Down votes are explained (at least in a very minor way) in the tour..
@Rob Wait.. user posts are being shared in Facebook?
@Rob :)

@technastic_tc fair enough

3:02 PM
@rene :)
@rene "so you could us"?

Rob
3:53 PM
@technastic_tc Even if the direct Twitter sharing link is removed people are still allowed to copy the link:
If you wish to write a Feature Request on MSE, feel free to do so; I don't think it will be a duplicate.

4:48 PM
@technastic_tc a typo on my behalf. so you could use

5:46 PM
@rene I'm mostly just disappointed it's not this being implemented...

isn't that the first step? I mean based on what Cat just commented it is for TL moderation. That is a start

It's not... but it's a gateway. If we do more with it, we could let mods appoint room mods rather than (or in addition to) ROs. One of the features is being able to set a kick duration.

Oooh.
That'd be useful in Charcoal HQ about thirty seconds ago.

Hey @Catija? Waffles.

Essentially, we strip most of the mod/RO abilities in the TL and create a "mod" user in the TL who has most of them restored.
Anyway... I'd imagine only staff should be able to see that option at the moment since no one else can use it.

5:59 PM
@Rob I'm not talking about the direct Twitter sharing link. I'm talking about Twitter bot account(handled by SE) automatically sharing posts in Twitter without informing OP.
@Rob :)
@rene ok!
I have got an idea! Instead of posting a feature request directly, shall I first create a discussion post where the community can share its opinion whether it's ok (or not ok) for a bot to share their posts automatically in Twitter?
Depending upon the answers, I can come to better conclusion if the community might like or dislike my feature request.
What's your say people?

meh
the automated twitter accounts don't really serve a purpose at this point

It is worth a try but I've seen FR disguised as discussion go down the drain quickly as well.

they should just be discontinued full stop

@Mithical true!

6:08 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard .....

@Ollie ••••••

@rene I'm saying that I'll post a discussion post first.. then based on input from others, I'll create a separate feature request post..
@Mithical :)

@technastic_tc feature request is also a kind of discussion, answers can be posted explaining why people are for or against the request.

@Shadow10YearsWizard ....

@Shadow10YearsWizard oh..

It's a complicated situation and people are on it.
Sucks, though.

The waffles?

Yes.

6:13 PM
@Ollie well they are big

@Shadow10YearsWizard Sausage, eggs, bacon sandwiched between two huge Belgian waffles.
@Spevacus I can help, now that I'm in Metasmoke.

Your flags will be greatly appreciated. Have you signed up for autoflagging?

@Spevacus I... don't think so.
How?

That's alright. You can do it whenever. One second, I'll pull up the relevant how-to...
@Ollie Here ya go. The TL;DR is... Set up some conditions, press Clifford the Big Red Button (grants MS the ability to flag on your behalf) and then sit back and relax.
Your flags will most likely not be used as often as you might think, but you'll cast a few at some point, I'm sure.

Need to write-access my account first, apparently.
Whoa there @Spevacus.

6:19 PM
Yeppers. MS is sometimes weird about it, it might ask you to do so a couple of times. They don't always stick.
@Ollie Hmm... Weird. What page took you to that?

Hang on
metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/authentication/status. Clicked the big red button like you said.
Where can I report that?

Ah, haha. Their certification expired. One second, I think Undo had just recently asked Thomas to update it.
Yeah, he did. You can just hold off until Thomas returns and fixes it.

Cool.
"with a budget of four dollars a month"
Is that for me or them?

Undo

Oh.
Hey @Spevacus, where's the list of aliases in the charcoal wiki?

Thanks.

I'm done writing the question..

Nice. When are you posting?
*if SE allowed

I wanted to know opinion of people how good the post is..

*not everyone is
I'll support the request

6:38 PM
@JohnDvorak :)
Any other corrections?
@JohnDvorak Posted!

I think post authors are sent an e-mail if their question is tweeted, but I am not absolutely sure about that.

@Spevacus nope :(

@Spevacus pretty sure they're not, easy enough to confirm with someone whose post got shared.

Gotcha
Take my updoot then.

@technastic_tc I'd change the request to "Ask for post author permission before sharing their post on social media". This both doesn't imply the OP can actively make SE share the post, and include Facebook where they also share manually some posts.
(maybe even Instagram? Didn't check.)

6:52 PM
hmm..
@Shadow10YearsWizard I have no idea if SE bots share posts in Instagram. If they do, it must have been mentioned in post revision history right?

Not a must, it's fine now too.

@Shadow10YearsWizard I didn't get you.

@technastic_tc no no, not bots. Manually by SE staff. They do it on Facebook for sure.
@technastic_tc it's fine as-is, just sharing how I'd ask this if it was me posting the request.
:8647402 lol yes, it's 9 PM and I still didn't have dinner. ;)
This will help for now ^

@Shadow10YearsWizard oh.. Can you please share the Facebook account?

@Shadow10YearsWizard *takes cup of Affogato away from @ShadowWizard*

6:56 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard OK!
@Shadow10YearsWizard oh..
Why don't you eat then?

@technastic_tc it's in the footer: facebook.com/officialstackoverflow
@technastic_tc kids still doing bath

@technastic_tc Even if the direct Twitter sharing link is removed people are still allowed to copy the link:
But, write your Meta; reap your reward.

@Rob I'm ok with people manually copying links and sharing it. But I'm not OK with bots randomly sharing it.
@Rob What does that mean?

Rob
Should I look ...

@technastic_tc it means he's OK with you writing the feature request and @Rob wishing you to enjoy the reputation points you earn from it. :)

@Shadow10YearsWizard :)

You've earned the right for...

"Earned the right" haha..

Not really something I'm looking at myself...
stackoverflow.com/company/work-here/2513443/… but why does an India based person need to be fluent in german?
As much as it pains me - Hindi is the official lingua franca of india

10:03 PM
I'll ask a question :D
and troll SE a little :D

Brutal.
Yeah it sounds like an honest mistake if I'm picking up what's being put down.

Little bit of trolling never hurts, though. :)

@JourneymanGeek The only German-speaking people from India I know are those who work for Lufthansa

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog exactly
@SonictheK-DayHedgehog I thought the german office was in Munich for some reason

10:10 PM
Might be Munich, but I vaguely recall it being in Düsseldorf

(scroll alllll the way down)

Huh, I must be misremembering, or they may have moved since, or I may be recalling the physical location of a remote employee.
balpha was based in Berlin

yup
but balpha was remote
naw, didn't move I think
Austin kinda seems to have replaced the old denver location

Well, there is a glut of those employees open to being hired, especially as Lufthansa had to remove quite a few of theirs from duty

well - feel free to pass on the ad to whoever

What does it taste like?

spam, with a aftertaste of desperation.

Like luncheon meat, of course.

To be expected.

@JourneymanGeek According to Wikipedia Bangalore (Bangaluru) has Kannada as it's most spoken language; I presume that the English requirement is to request stick poking. Perhaps German is to speak with upper management, co-workers, or the market that they wish to expand into; maybe it's like some of the other condition employers ask for, to cut down on applications and obtain an additional skill not compensated for. I've had interviews where they thought they'd ask 50 questions (or the 64 dollar
question), but I knew they weren't paying that per hour, so ... no.

@Rob reflected in the question 😁
@Rob everyone speaks something similar to but not entirely unlike english
It's the common language of the dev community too

10:43 PM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, please do the needful 😂

@DavidPostill I have done the needful sir!

Rob
JG, Reading what goes into my prior background checks I'm fairly certain that I don't want random person authorized to conduct one - so I'm ineligible too:
> The background investigation will include credit and criminal history checks, records checks to verify citizenship of family members, verification of date of birth, education, employment history, and military history. Interviews of individuals who know the candidate and of any current or former spouse (divorced within the past ten years) will be conducted. Residences will be confirmed, neighbors interviewed, and public records queried for information about bankruptcies, divorces,
> and criminal or civil litigation. Additional interviews will be conducted, as needed, to resolve any inconsistencies or issues which have developed during the course of the investigation.
Carte blanche.

@Rob where is that?

Rob
I was referring to the link you gave, which says that they conduct background checks.
