5:13 PM
So, apparently GB approved mass usage of the Pfizer BioNTech vacine
And here I wonder if Average Joe knows the difference between cure and vaccine or if thing are going to get worse now that "I don't even know how to correctly wear a mask" people will start thinking that if they get covid hospitals will just give them vaccine and they will be at their home after a few hours.

5:31 PM
Wait, isn't that how it works?

If enough people get vaccinated, the spread will go down like a lead balloon somewhere near summer.

It's tempting to not get one though... would give a perfect excuse to stay away from people.

So they don't spray the vaccine from a plane over the whole country?

@Tinkeringbell You can get one and tell nobody ;-)
@rene That's DEET.

But... what if my employer decides to check by having me prove it with medical records?!

Rob
5:34 PM
Referring to: "DECISION NO. 2003/17/RM
OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE AGENCY of 14 November 2003
on certification specifications for very light rotorcraft", which is probably not the only applicable regulation, and without reading all the amendments to: [certification specifications for very light rotorcraft](https://www.easa.europa.eu/document-library/certification-specifications/group/cs-vlr-very-light-rotorcraft#group-table), it looks like at least: CS VLR.561 General, CS VLR.625 Fitting factors, CS VLR.777 Cockpit controls, and **especially** CS VLR.785 Seats, safety belts, and harne

@Tinkeringbell Illegal.

@Mast For how long?

@Tinkeringbell In NLD? Probably until they change the Grondwet.

And that's not impossible ;)

Not any time soon, not for something like this.
But technically not impossible, no.
Very, very improbable.

5:36 PM
Hmm. I might consider it :P

Elections coming up, nobody is going to touch it.

@rene I think you saw too many Zombie Apocalypse movies.
Or more realistically, since you are a flower you think the vaccine works like pesticides

possible

Rob
Mast Airlines, but not carrying a passenger:

that looks like it will chop your legs above the knee ...

5:43 PM
Pfizer United

@Rob sometime, I wonder if I shouldn't just become a youtuber instead of working....
you know, you play games and get paid for it.

@Rob Is it still a seat if the wing is on the chair?
Nice.

Rob
In 100 million dose quantity it costs U$40 per person, to inject. Spraying from a plane would be costly, and possibly ineffective. ---- OTOH, you could spray the virus from a plane.

I think they were talking about 10-20 bucks a shot here, everyone requiring 2 shots.
We'll see, EMA isn't done yet.

Rob
40 for two is a low price, but we will see what completion brings in a few months.
Flu shot can be U$28-$80, depending on who delivers it: nytimes.com/2020/07/22/upshot/…

5:55 PM
@Rob depends mostly on how much Momo's Gray Men were involved

A bit over a week ago prices in UK were estimated at 3 to 25 pounds, depending on which version.

Yeah, the US is about paying double what the EU is paying per dose.

EU cheated the prices a bit by contributing to the development of a couple.

I dread the day Americans get better at negotiating health care prices... surely it would mean ours go up :P

Early buy-in like that gets you discounts.

Rob
5:58 PM
@rene It's not like the 787-9.
Rumor has it that they serve Leg of Man for an inflight meal.

:D

"To Serve Man" is episode 89 (#24 Season 3) of the anthology series The Twilight Zone (1959). It originally aired on March 2, 1962 on CBS. Based on Damon Knight's 1950 short story of the same title, the episode was written by Rod Serling and directed by Richard L. Bare. It is considered one of the best episodes from the series, particularly for its final twist. == Opening narration == Respectfully submitted for your perusal – a Kanamit. Height: a little over nine feet. Weight: in the neighborhood of three hundred and fifty pounds. Origin: unknown. Motives? Therein hangs the tale, for in just a...

Rob
From a non-US biased source it appears that funding and pre-ordering double the US order is rumored to be close to U$20 each (and not 10): aljazeera.com/economy/2020/11/11/… - but they are not commiting to divulge the actual amount ATM.
At 20 that's 4B bucks.

6:14 PM
@Rob Still better than the average funeral cost of between $7,000 and $12,000 ...

Rob
Germany and Poland alone have 120M people, leaving 80M doses; with not everyone accepting that's 100M for the rest of Europe.

@DavidPostill .... I think this quote just won you the "best Tavern quote of the year" prize. You are my hero, sir.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Why thank you kind sir!

And to whoever was thinking to reply "yep, but the state has to pay for the vaccine while the funeral is paid by the family" let me add that that money was our taxes in the first place.

Rob
Burn or bury costs less in Glasgow: mygov.scot/funeral-support-payment/…

6:19 PM
So don't worry, you will pay the vaccine too, in a way or the other even if it is "free"

but but but, it's free

Rob
... and U$25K in Japan: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… on average.

@Rob Not everyone will be vaccinated. You can discount most people 12 and under outright.
Many under 18.
Or what's the magic number nowadays, 15?

6:36 PM
@Rob watch Departures and you may get a vague idea of why it cost that much.

Rob
So, maybe 120M doses (/2) for the rest of Europe.

6:53 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard Officially I'm just an advisor. My speciality lies in reducing the impact of pesticides used in agricultur on the environment
@Rob yeah very true. And also our growing seasons are shorter I believe, mostly due to legislation on cover crops in wintertime and a ban on manure application in the wintertime.

Rob
@Luuklag Likely more money from flowers and cheaper to buy grain/silage from elsewhere.

@Rob Yeah, but that market is also limited. They have very un-intensive rotations. Once every 7-8 years. Only Tulips you can have in a shorter rotation like 3/4 years.
They even kill off harmfull soil pathogens by flooding the plot for a few weeks every winter
If you ever get the chance you should go to Aalsmeer flower auction
I think it's the biggest building in Europe, in terms of m2

Rob
7:14 PM
Unfortunately they use 6x what is produced: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

True, thats one of the reasons we have to export a shitload of manure
I do wonder what the definitions of those measures are
Seeing that the largest part of production is exported

Rob
@Luuklag Thank you YouTube: youtu.be/slIjWMuKwa0?t=899

@Rob What you see is a relatively small part here
At about 2:30 is more like the real buzz. These guys racing around on their small tractors like ants

Rob
I expect that, but it shows the storage warehouse, loading and the auction room.

Yeah, there are like a few dozen auction rooms
But if you want to see this buzz with your own eyes, you better be there about 5AM

Rob
7:35 PM
@Luuklag Speaking of forklifts, and running like ants: youtu.be/pbIjL2jdn8M?t=14

Tahts one expensive workplace accident
Health and Safety are going to have a fieldday about that one

8:11 PM
cc @Mithical, who served as a mod before turning 18

...

This was because the moderator agreement is a legally binding contract, which minors can't enter into

🚽

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog THere's a whole questions thread, please use it.

Sorry, wasn't paying attention to the home page and didn't notice it.

8:31 PM
Do we know how many current mods will be affected by this?

I don't know of any off the top of my head.

In the end I think SE should add a moderator level without access to PII. A large part of moderator duties can be done without that, and the privacy concerns will only get larger.

that's called regular users
we need more of'em stepping up on their own to help

regular users can't handle flags

That's certainly a possibility... but I guess the question is... where do you prioritize it? For right now, there's five years or more of stuff that needs fixing that will impact thousands of people trying to use the site... so do we spend a ton of time on making it so that a handful of people can be mods in a partial way? It's not a simple change.

8:35 PM
@HDE did I leave you off the list?

@Catija that's why I'm ranting in chat, not posting on meta ;-)

It took a year to get the TL back to working order... (and it's still a week or so away).

@Mithical Sorry, which list? I've kinda only just popped in on a whim.

A: Questions about the new minimum age for diamond moderators

MithicalLess of a question than just... I'm disappointed. You state: We understand that this is a change some may be disappointed by and that it may seem to indicate that we don't believe that younger members of our communities can be great moderators - over the years we have known many mods who started...

I have a vague memory of you being under 18 when you started, but I could be misremembering

Ah, thank you. Yes, I was under 18 for my first couple of years as a mod.

8:38 PM
"handful of people" reminds me of that crucial misconception that caused the Mess of 2019

Hardly.

There's also a legal issue involved: minors can't enter into binding legal contracts, which the moderator agreement is

And I'm honestly really frustrated that you would even make that comparison.

sorry
how many moderators are going to be affected?

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog Yes, that's the crux of it.

8:40 PM
I understand the legal issue, and I've wondered about that aspect in the past (but intentionally never raised that publically). It's still very sad that this is changed now

@JohnDvorak I don't know of any, to be clear. If no one reports that they're under 18, that won't be surprising... but if I had to guess, there's maybe 2-4.

Maybe a few years down the line, SE can make an "honorary moderator" position that's considered separate from full moderatorship that allows some rights, but that's a long way away. It'd involve having to fully discuss which exact rights should and shouldn't be granted, and some of them would be particularly contentious.

anything that doesn't require a legally binding contract

@MadScientist Remember when there used to be a 10k flag queue?

that was only spam

8:49 PM
we still have a 10k spam queue on chat

In any case, I picked the wrong day to hit the rep cap

I'm still worried some smaller sites may now be understaffed

That's already the case. I have probably 20 sites that need elections where the site only has 2 mods. There's probably one that only has a single mod.

9:15 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard Yep. Same thing also applies to manual reporting "reasons" in quotes.

9:32 PM
*sigh*
I'm having trouble even expressing why I feel so disappointed with this change.
I just... am.
(And no, I don't blame you, Cat.)

9:45 PM
@Mithical because it is quite a stupid legal thing, and about as useful as age checks on porn sites.

@Mithical Yes, same here. This is not about you Cat. I edited a lot of You out in my answer.

Thanks, y'all. I was watching Mith and Shog on Twitter and feeling really shitty even though I know y'all don't see me as the cause of it. :(

@Shadow10YearsWizard it does that on its own, you don't need a . . . Whatever you're doing right now to make MAR unhappy these days.

10:01 PM
eh, i see it as a necessary change tbh. sucks, but, that's the world we live in
The right way to fight against this kind of stuff is to do so via your local gov., not by ignoring them until you get hit with a lawsuit

@Catija Sorry you had to be the bringer of bad news. :(

^

Rob
Even Kenny seems affected.

He is?

Rob
10:17 PM
In addition: Must also check the box that they got the joke, and understood what Ollie said.
