@NordTheLoftyWizard It is weird. Even doing a search only turns up a single instance of those robo-comments - and the accounts don't appear to be bots. [🤔 Wonders if it's a UserScript to fire off auto-comments].

@Ollie pic or it never happened.... ;)
@DavidPostill so why doesn't he change name?? lol
@Rob yeah, @Ollie linked to different account. Guess by mistake?
@NordTheLoftyWizard that's terrible. It's hammering the person with useless comments. One is enough, the rest are just rude noise. Hope you flagged?
And if those are accounts of same person, they should be suspended right away, maybe I'll give it a look myself and flag. Thanks!
No wonder people hate SO. :/
@JourneymanGeek Portal.... now I imagine what I said to Rob, by using the portals from the game. Previously just had blurred image of some wormhole, StarGate style. Thanks! :D

Wow, that's one enthusiastic toilet...

What do you guys think of this post? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/347489/…

First screenshot seems to me to show 3 upvotes and 1 downvote, bringing the total score of the post 2 and the notification to +28

yeah, its a lot of fuzz about nothing if you ask me
Also goes on to grab the RSS feed into it
I VTC'ed with a custom reason

Yeah, I wonder if the last screenshot isn't omitting two downvotes filed below 'last 7 days'
It's... weird at least.
Dunno if it necessarily needs to be closed.

Or some downvotes by OP him/herself
Less then 100 flags to go for the marshall badge :)

I would need 35 more, apparently... but then I won't get it because I'm a mod XD
I only have Citizen Patrol...

@Tinkeringbell tilted both ways. Kind of a rodeo. ;)

ARGHHH stupid hour booking system
There was an error, and apparently there is a hidden feature that when you press esc you exit the page
So now I can do the entire last week again :/

8, tab, 8, tab, 8, tab, 8, tab, 8, submit, ok.
But slowly, because if you tab before the first 8 is converted to 8,00 by the system, you lose the second 8.

hahaha
No its more like 1, click 0:30, click, 1:30, click etc. etc.
Totalling to 32 hours

Ughh okay that one really sucks then, yes.

9:59 AM
its about an hours work most of the time

10:27 AM
@Luuklag Wow. I have to do the double registering thing (client and company both expect a timesheet), and both systems kinda suck... but at least it doesn't take more than 30 minutes, usually!

Well if I would keep things up to date it wouldn't have to take so much time
but I usually forget, so now I have to think about what I did last week etc.

10:39 AM
8 hours of 'beheer' and the rest is 'development' for me :P

yeah that should take no more then 5 mins

should. You're overestimating the speed at which those pages load XD

Yeah same here. In that sense our previous system was far superior
Now were using Exact Synergy
But querying the DB to return 30 rows to me takes a couple of mins

Oh, the old system on the company side was definitely worse/slower... I just don't know when they introduced the delay after pressing tab though. That definitely wasn't there in the beginning and I wonder who thought that would be a good idea.

@Shadow10YearsWizard Yes, there's multiple ones; possibly even someone who really has that name, to take the flak - apparently, as David well knows; everyone is passionate about Wesley.

@JNat cross site spammer, for your nuking. Thanks! :)
How on Earth this spam doesn't even have a down vote, after one hour on Stack Overflow????????
I mean... actual questions get like -10 in few minutes.
What a sad moment.
Bad questions are nuked on spot, spam get to survive hour(s).
Bad reputation for SO, literally. lol
@rene doesn't Smokey monitor SO, due to the amount of traffic?
This can explain how spam can exist for long time until someone spot it by chance, in the less common tags.

@Luuklag of course, after being reported the good folk of Charcoal nuked it, probably.

Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard An hour ago is page 18, not sure people scroll through that; just search or (re)ask.

But it was intact for whole hour. No flag, no close vote, no downvote. It used to take seconds in the past to nuke spam, that's the weird part. @Luuklag

yeah thats curious

Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard Use the MS Search link I gave earlier, search for the site, see if it qualifies for blacklisting, otherwise it can be watched; which adds a tiny bit to the detection.

12:15 PM
@Rob still, unless Smokey doesn't/stopped to monitor SO, can't explain how he didn't catch it.

Rob
It doesn't appear over at CHQ outside of your report. You could search (I didn't note the site) and see if it has ever been mentioned in any prior TPs.

12:23 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard there was nothing in that question that could indicate for smokey that something is off. It read like a natural question, it had a link in the middle of the text, it wasn't obfuscated in anyway. No earlier reports for that domain exist in MS. Even on SO it is the first. If we don't tell smokey what to look for, it will ignore a lot.

@rene well, question from 1 rep user with external link is most likely spam, no matter if the link is in the beginning, middle, or end of the question, IMO. Why not report all of those? (only 1-rep users, only questions... answers might often contain valid links indeed.)

You're free to open an issue to get that detection added.

meh
More fun to rant here. :P

I've added the domain to the watch list so at least any next post will be reported

Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard rene is correct, you could have checked by clicking there.
^^ Reported, with +1 and one reason; without more weight it's nearly weightless.

by the way @ber I ate an Orange flavored YOLO this week :D

Rob
and you lived to tell, must be weaksauce.
@Shadow10YearsWizard @rene It's a reasonable suggestion, resulting in a measly 17 TPs, 2 FPs, and one NAA; over the past four years. --- Infrequent occurence, but a great observation and barely worth having. --- You might convince @Makyen (unpingable?) to write a regex, but I don't think that alone ties to rep.

In just 20 years, software engineering has shifted from architecting monoliths with a single database and centralized state to microservices where everything is distributed across multiple containers, servers, data centers, and even continents. Distributed architectures have enabled developers to scale and meet the needs of an increasingly connected world. Distributing things also introduces a whole…

Hmm, that pins badly ...

5:06 PM
LOL

And it's only a week until they're allowed on a site where they matter :P

We were going to make them live on DBA today but we pushed a week because of the holidays and the code freeze.

That looks really nice! :D

5:26 PM
@ArtOfCode did you try to see if right align would work there: meta.stackexchange.com/q/321346/158100 ? Can be achieved with a |---:| in the header.

I didn't want right-align :P
It does work, though

Yeah, it is a bit all or nothing.

Now I'm sad I don't have a post to try things on. I guess it's off to the Sandbox for me! :)

@ArtOfCode I was looking for the width control of the column .. I kept removing spaces until I read it makes up its own mind ...
@Tinkeringbell here are potential posts you can edit: meta.stackexchange.com/search?q=code%3A%22----%22

I should not read HNQ posts from parenting.se. My first instinct answer is always did you try electro shocks? but I'm unsure if parents have humor ...

Works though. Baby gets hurt once and won't ever try again ;)

That is my reasoning as well ...

To be fair though... we weren't even allowed in the kitchen to explore. Just block off the entire kitchen.
Reduces the risk of stumbling over the child while carrying a pan with boiling hot water and potatoes to the sink as well..

@Rob ikr, i found this weird too. Made a screenshot since i didn't know how to link to comments, though i guess could have linked to the answer it self and mention the comment...
it is yeah. I was surprised given i never saw those kind of comments unless they're spam (but given those kind of things get nuked fast here). Reminded me of youtube comments.

And sadly no, i didn't flag any of them, given they're kind of old? and I never flagged a comment before, so wasn't sure if it was fine to do it without asking first (given everyone here have more experience about this than me) :)

Good way for the team to see if the community uses an apparently low-use or irrelevant feature: 1. intentionally introduce a bug in it. 2. see if users file bug reports about it.

@Shadow10YearsBlizzard Where can you download the tcpman.exe file?
;)

10:36 PM
Thanks ;)
Erm
To prevent more like that, and for appropriate investigation will that be escalated to a CM(s)?
Or is that not up for discussion?

@Ollie yes
no
in any case we've escalated it to the relevant folks for appropriate action

@JourneymanGeek new one here

@JourneymanGeek I was about to ask about that one just now.

10:53 PM
@MadScientist tbh - it feels like a user with a vendetta googling a name, and pulling out a decade old news article that may or may not be the same person. He clearly is spoiling for a fight, and I don't see any positive contributions on meta.
that said, its my duty to let the right people know (in terms of other mods) and deal with the problems I have (on my site :D )

@JourneymanGeek There's also the added mess because in the US and it seems like in Canada as well the names are also published for accused persons, who are not convicted yet. I think this deserves following up, but it's easily possible this is a name collision or a false accusation

Yup
And the second post was clearly completely out of line

Rob
11:33 PM
Lots of people have the same name (need a better source, but it's a popular question; that I don't have time to research properly); for common names (which that isn't particularly) out of ~11M users there's bound to be some overlap. It's difficult to say with a decent amount of certainly; so that ^ source
isn't awful).

\o/
Don't need to

Rob
For example we appear to have barely a tiny handful of "Rob" users (just one half of a common name (in North America)) yet where I live there are a dozen people with exactly the same name (and my city has fewer than 11M inhabitants).

lol
Everyone on chat is Rob or Bob.
