So. My mom's almost brand-new phone is probably hacked. It consumed a lot of data in the form of "hotspot and tethering", even when I don't see hotspot on.

Are there other causes for this, or is my suspicion correct?

Its initial hotspot password was easy, so I guess that's the cause. Is there anything I can do besides a factory reset? Hmm.

@M.A.R. well, things change, it's natural that not everyone will change alongside. I don't know that person, don't know the reasoning behind not signing the new agreement, so can't make a good judgement call.

At least it wasn't done in public and while shaming him, that's an improvement.

@M.A.R. anyway as for phone hack, I've heard about lots of cases where people got whatsapp message from a friend asking them to confirm something, and once confirmed, their whatsapp is moved to the full control of the hacker. Not about hotspot, but if hackers can so easily steal whatsapp accounts, surely other hacks are possible too. Reset sounds like a good option.
