Aren't bad questions to be removed by moderators from the HNQ? see this.
And here's a better framed one, removed for good

6:54 AM
@QueenieGoldstein Well that one is a duplicate so I can understand the mod not wanting it on HNQ. Each site does determine on their own where the lines for taking stuff out of HNQ. What makes the first one bad, btw?

7:33 AM
@Tinkeringbell see the time it was dupe flagged. The purpose of sharing the activity log of question is defeated if you don't see that....

I can't see flags on sites I'm not a mod on.

@Tinkeringbell I flagged it october 10, the question was removed from HNQ @october 2
The first instance violates the very first guideline: chemistry.stackexchange.com/help/how-to-ask

Hmm. Okay so there might've been another reasons for it's removal. Have you searched the site's guidelines for removal on Math as well?
@QueenieGoldstein Then flag it for removal of HNQ?

@Tinkeringbell not a memeber on that site

shrug then my advice is to not meddle in their HNQs either.

7:37 AM
perhaps a moderator edited that question after it was HNQ

We tend to rely on caching solutions to improve database performance. Caching frequently-accessed queries in memory or via a database can optimize write/read performance and reduce network latency, especially for heavy-workload applications, such as gaming services and Q&A portals. But you can further improve performance by pooling users’ connections to a database. Client users need…

Can anyone see who deleted the answers in meta.stackexchange.com/questions/354978/…? Were they deleted by the creators themselves or by mods or by other users?

May I ask what problem I would be addressing by answering such a question?

Rob
1:01 PM
The answer is in the FAQ, and yes.

1:15 PM
why should only the math experts be confused, this deserves to be reposed here to confuse more users.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе If you want something confusing: New corona measures yesterday said 'no more selling alcohol between 8PM and 7AM'. Now the police union is arguing that it's easier to enforce a 4 week period of 'no alcohol sales at all' claiming people won't be tempted to organize a party if they don't have alcohol.
They're quite honestly forgetting that the average household has enough alcohol in stock for at least 3 parties.

@Tinkeringbell that's not confusing, that is depressing and somehow stupid. Also, expected, at least based on all the stupid thing we are doing here too.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Wait, there's more places where they're arguing prohibition can stop covid?
It's confusing in that I can't follow how they come to that conclusion. But sure, stupid works as well to describe it :)

@Tinkeringbell here we are arguing that smartworking is evil because it kills bars and restaurants so people must try to return to workplaces, pandemic and everything
So, yep, I think we get the prize for "stupidier"

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Oh. I'm glad we're not that deranged here yet. You can have the prize ;) Though I do see people arguing here that we should keep going out and spending extra money to 'keep the economy going' too.
At least the government is sensible here, and these are just random covidiots with no power to change the rules :D

1:22 PM
@Tinkeringbell nope, here that comes from government too.

Sigh. That sucks. You have my sympathies.
Ours is slow with implementing strict measures, but they finally did so yesterday, so I'm hoping numbers will again go down to less worrying levels soon.

Well, government are clueless, but everyone else is ignorant here :/

@Tinkeringbell naaaahhhh, here the policy so far is "France is worse"
(or whatever the country with the highest number has been for the few previous days)

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе "France is worse, but that doesn't mean we'd have to get on their level, we're better than that" would be a good Dutch mentality :P
@MetaAndrewT. Same. My mum works as a caregiver and with elderly patients, and I had to explain to her that no, the PCR tests don't also give a positive if you just have a rhinovirus cold.
She's not even listening, and she works as a caregiver ffs.

nope, the mentality is "we are doing great because..... here, we found this country that has more daily cases than us! What do you mean it is also three times our size??? THAT DOESN'T MATTER !"

1:27 PM
Over here they argue that an approach that works in low population density countries like Sweden will work in a country where everyone is packed like herrings in a cask.
There's so many people arguing so many things, I could entertain myself for the rest of the pandemic (and probably run out of time doing so)

Recent weeks, we had some massive demo that went into riots, and the comments on the news sites were: "covid is fake", "government uses covid to suppress free speech"
I was like, "okay..."

Oh yeah we have a few of those here too.... They seem to spread faster than covid.

@Tinkeringbell we could do that too, if we weren't panicking at the realization that those are the ones governing the country.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Yeah, I understand. That really sucks :(

@Tinkeringbell I mean, who sane in their head would start arguing that "maybe schoolbus doesn't need social distance if the trip is shorter than... 15minutes"

1:35 PM
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I don't know... Over here, every bus needs a face mask and social distancing, no matter how long/short the ride.

Rob

Problem solved.

Hihi
I like that, it's funny :)

Rob
Part of the campaign to introduce the idea that face masks will be needed to ride. The bus company must present its ideas cautiously as they've made errors in judgement previously and been shot beaten and burned for it.

Yeah two bus drivers here have been in the news recently for being abused by covidiots that didn't want to wear a mask.

oh, here they managed to remove the mask requirement while "in the open", still required for closed spaces. But the school bus thing is different.
On normal bus, actual "customers" are few right now, so having people leave an open seat between them is easy.

1:44 PM
And I mean serious physical harm. I can't imagine the amount of just verbal abuse hurled their way because of it.

School bus.... few of them, and those were quite full.
So option a) you implement social distancing, you have to find a way to either have more buses or more rides.
Option b), social distance, first comes, first served. Hope you can get in, others will have to find another way.
Option c), fake some data so that you can claim it is safe to travel in a "sardine can" like you did before the pandemic
option A requires work to find resources, option b requires work to have people understand that you can't do any better right now and option C just requires to not have any moral
What option do you think was chosen?
Spoiler: I said that before.

I was just about to say that you already gave away the answer...

Rob
@Tinkeringbell More serious than what I said, that's pretty bad!

Yeah, some people are just wonderful beings.

@Tinkeringbell let me find you an inspiring quote....

1:54 PM
Oh please don't, they're always just empty words without nuance anyways.

Rob
Option C was always the case, someone too close spreading something; you need a strong constitution to pack together with strangers.
Or, You come at the King you best not miss.

@Tinkeringbell here found.
Think for once it was appropriate. Don't mean that you should take a club and go head bashing, but explains a lot of behaviors we get.

Rob
Cannibalism is a deterrent.

I mean, even without going as far as causing real physical harm to drivers.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I mean, we probably should take clubs and start headbashing then, just to fix the idea that your head won't get bashed!

2:00 PM
Here, during the original lockdown, we had people posting selfies of them doing parties and stuff with no mask, no distance etc with the hashtag #not-stay-at-home

Rob
But the drivers attack and threaten the passengers, and the police took their side; that resulted in a huge escalation, with the drivers having to back all the way down.

Oh yeah, we had the #I'm-no-longer-participating.
Which was fun, as it was started by an organisation whose founder lives in Germany, and they managed to collect an influencer that was first sponsored by government to promote the rules among young ones as their figure head.

Now, tell me... In what universe one could ignore public laws on a word-scale pandemic, make fun of violating the law on the web, providing proof that incriminates them in the process and... GET NO CONSEQUENCE?????

Of course the only one that benefitted from all this? The influencer XD I must admit at least she's good at her 'job'.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе The one that lacks headbashing, of course.

this one, of course
as demonstrated

2:08 PM
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе or staple masks to their faces

@JourneymanGeek we had a tv spot for mask usage that actually had some of the actors wear the mask WRONG.
With their nose outside the mask.

._.
Spray the nose!

@JourneymanGeek yes, with ghost pepper spray, just to be sure.

Socially distant skunking seems appropriate

anyway, if you want to come visit my country... it's easy. Second star, turn left and then just follow the circus music.
We are a bunch of clowns.

2:15 PM
I might, if they do ban alcohol sales here ;)

Rob
2:55 PM
@Tinkeringbell One example for 68 bottles, $2.55/bottle. There are 1000s of DIY kits available.

@Rob Yeah but that's beer. I don't like beer.

Rob
@Tinkeringbell Same for wine, or do you want hard liquor?

3:49 PM
@Rob Okay that's much better :)

@Trilarion ping!
I think you might have some questions for me. The answers might be unsatisfying, but I'll try to explain as well as I can
Couple of points - there's a couple of folk who think nothing should be deleted, and who deleted it - well would be a mix of users, flags, mods... and quite a few of them were discussed heavily. And well, pointing fingers at specific folks seems ... not very good in the current environment

With all the questions on ELL and the "New Contributor" banner there may be no tone; just asking. — Rob 23 hours ago
@Rob no, far from it.
The questions on ELL are perfectly written, with excellent English.

and comments over who deleted things is noisy... and we don't like noise.

The tone is there. I stand by my downvote. I don't like a customer who rush to me yelling "Fix this bug now!"
huh? Drama? grabs popcorn
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе no way you're bigger clowns than us in tiny Israel.
Small country, big stupidity. :D

we're thinking of renaming the country Chelm

3:57 PM
We used to be smart..... I suspect Corona has a side effect: it makes leaders utterly stupid.

Then certain leaders were infected long before they tested positive.

lol
@Mithical isn't it Helem, of Chelem? checking

I feel like there's a joke here I am missing

@Mithical OMG.... all my life I thought there is a סגול there, and was wrong. LOL

heh

4:00 PM
@JourneymanGeek Mith linked to wiki page explaining the joke.
> These stories often center on the "wise" men and their silly decisions, similarly to the English Wise Men of Gotham or the German Schildbürger. The jokes were almost always about silly solutions to problems. Some of these solutions display "foolish wisdom" (reaching the correct answer by the wrong train of reasoning)...

@ShadowWizardWearingMask then you lose, we were stupid far before the pandemic

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе oh....

4:16 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask just to give you an idea of how pathetic we are (strange competition we are playing)....
Every time the news report a new record in the number of daily cases, they either go on the blame route, saying that other states are worse (and in the process comparing numbers for states like Danmark VS USA... same size, right?) or go for the even more stupid explanations "There are more cases today because we made more tests today"
little problem, a) even if you didn't do the testing to discover the cases they would still be there so.... I don't see why that is a positive thing to say.
second, and more important.... THE RESULTS OF TODAY TESTS AREN'T INCLUDED IN TODAY SCORES IN THE FIRST PLACES SO THE TWO NUMBERS ARE UNRELATED
To quote Charlie Brown.....
GOOD GRIEF

when your state is reporting the same number of cases as another state but has 3x the deaths
Also, the first state to lift mask mandates

@user400654 when your states claims that they have lower number of cases than nearby country ... but forgets to mention the mortality is double, yep....
@user400654 also, when you state does little to nothing to avoid drug stores scalping the masks prices up to 10000% during a world pandemic....

there is a bug/feature in the account merge process. Stuck with two chat identities and the system sometime chooses at random
or at least I didn't notice the pattern yet

Also says you are Derpy.

@Rob Who's Also?

@Rob This account is the Derpy one, it just has a different name for meta and everywhere else.

Nicee bug
I have replicated this one too...but not with the merge
I manually deleted

Nevermore (said the crow) is a name I set to the meta user after the nice meta tirefires we got last year

"m" is special character here
infact I cannot tag you with @Never

A: Is it ok to start a sentence with “also”?

Cerberus_Reinstate_MonicaBurchfield in Fowler's Modern English Usage advises against it. He says it is now quite frequent, but still a "marked feature of uneducated speech". I have always disliked it myself; a sentence can easily be recast to avoid it. I see it a lot, even in academic writing; but it is still considered...

"The Raven" is a narrative poem by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. First published in January 1845, the poem is often noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. It tells of a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distraught lover, tracing the man's slow fall into madness. The lover, often identified as a student, is lamenting the loss of his love, Lenore. Sitting on a bust of Pallas, the raven seems to further distress the protagonist with its constant repetition of the word "Nevermore". The poem makes use of folk, mythological, religious, and classical references...

A: Is it ok to start a sentence with “also”?

Jimi OkeCertainly, it is correct to begin a sentence with also. All adverbs (also inclusive) can be used at the beginning of a sentence with the proper punctuation. For instance, the first sentence in this answer begins with an adverb. Other examples are: Furthermore, we have exhausted all the oth...

Q: Why should I not ask questions regarding puzzles on Stack Overflow?

bragboyI raised one question on Stack Overflow regarding a puzzle. It was closed with the reason stated as it's not related to programming. This should be relaxed. As good programmers are natural problem solvers. They think very effectively. In fact, attacking a puzzle is like finding an algorithm with ...

@Tinkeringbell If you meant my question. I'm just curious. If the creators removed their own answers I think it's only fair. If the mods did it, I would rather think more about it. But it seems currently the environment is not good (see Journeyman Greek in chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8592592#8592592) so maybe I should ask that much later if at all. Probably from 10k on I could see for myself anyway, if I understood the privileges right.

Ah yes. Curiosity, the stuff that kills cats.

curious if fire is warm, putting a finger in the fire
@QueenieGoldstein umm... No? Why?
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе this can be the TL;DR of the whole Corona, in 6-8 years.
Playing with the numbers is used by all red countries, I think.

meh
it has an answer, it won't be auto deleted, why doesn't it need to remain open?
just because it was old?
usually historical locks are used on things that still have some value. The answers provided don't cover the current thinking on puzzle questions on SO (plus this is a question about SO specifically, not the network)
there's no value in keeping it around
whoops, why does it need to remain open
