Chilis are hot, and they must stay that way.
I'll be going now.
Shadow, you'll have to make your own tea now.

Afternoon.

@Ollie 😭
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе good?
@Ollie that was the temperature when my wife and me arrived to Canada for our Honeymoon. ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Average. So, not really. Anyway I'm just dropping in here to ask if anyone in this room uses Vue.

🤔

3:32 PM
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе kind of
Vue.js right?
Senior programmer using it, I.... help him out.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask yep.

I know the basics, and bit more, but not a lot.
Why?

I don't get if it is indeed horrible, or just me not getting it.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе ohhh... my first impression of it was that it's horrible.

Seems like it has at least... four? ways to define a component.

3:34 PM
Now, two years later (but do note I'm not using it daily or in depth) the impression changed a bit, but only because I can work with it.
I'm able to make the changes I need, and simply don't try to bypass the framework like I used to do, e.g. with Sharepoint.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I'm using only one, the one used by the senior programmer, so dunno. :)

Will see... having a real hard time finding how to do things, especially since tutorials don't really seem up to date and the docs... not very good.

It's like driving a straight road.
Road is bumpy sometimes, but you know you must not diverge from it.

look.... just trying to use Typescript, to have at least basic typing.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе well all I looked for was the v-if and v-for syntax, but yeah never checked beyond the basics.
Any specific example of code that I can help with? @Νеv

the docs suggest using Vetur plugin... and the scripts template it produces aren't up to date as far as I see (script-Typescript creates an invalid declaration for Vue 3)

3:38 PM
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Typescript... proper IDE (Webstorm in my case) helps a lot with it.
Who knew you must put space after the // for comment?? lol
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I don't use plugins, but maybe the senior dev used something to create the initial project... never asked or looked into it.

the Cli.... it configures linting in the most ignoble way possible... Compilation error for spacing, the usual stupid "" vs '' zealot battle (really, if you care which quote are used please stop and take a break)...

He just pushed code to git, I pulled and started working on it.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе yeah, that's where the IDE saved me.

apparently, to use a class for a component you have to do something like
@Options({
.........
})
export default class MyComponent extends Vue

Yup looks familiar enough

yet I see blogs talking about a @Component decorator that I can't find anywhere.

3:42 PM
Again, guess if I would have dug into it I'd have got mad at some point. :D

Was it removed in release 3? Can't say....

No idea... but ask yourself "Why do I need to know?"

The official Vue site typescript support page is useless.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Because in my case I have to write something like....

I do look into the insides of jQuery sometimes, but don't see a point looking to the insides of other frameworks I don't plan to use myself beyond the changes I have to do in existing code.

@Options({
props: {
MyProp: string
}
})
export default class MyComponent extends Vue
with Options I have to put the properties in the options.

3:45 PM
I remember there is internal data object you must populate.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask thats state, not properties.

And all the properties of your class sit on that object.

and since we are at it, why they called the state "data" in the first place.

(those you show with e.g. {{Color}} in the html template)
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе no idea :)

data is for the component internal state, not for properties passed from a parent component.
for those you use "props: {........}"

3:47 PM
Well that's beyond my paycheck. :D
Did you try asking on Stack Overflow?

but there is basically no intellisense working nor typing.

(not sarcasm)

the samples I see...the @Component decorator seems to use a second decorator @Props to define the properties inside the class.

intellisense is always wonky in WebStorm, but it does show very well errors in the code and give tips how to fix them.
Can't you just use global variables for that? @Νеvеrꭑoꭇе
p-table @rene @Glor @Sonic @Art
Whoops

@ShadowWizardWearingMask see this one.
Can't find any match to the syntax he uses int the Cli version I'm using.

3:51 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask already voted on

So I guess it was removed in version 3.... probably because it was far simpler and readable than the mess you have to use now?

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе weird. Makes me happy I'm just using something someone else gave me as-is. :)
And it was 100% TypeScript from the beginning.
@rene oh well, let's wait for the other 3. ;)
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе probably...

@Component
export default class HelloWorld extends Vue {
@Prop() readonly msg!: string
@Prop({default: 'John doe'}) readonly name: string
@Prop({required: true}) readonly age: number
@Prop(String) readonly address: string
@Prop({required: false, type: String, default: 'Developer'}) readonly job: string
}
I would just like to know HOW they managed to get this syntax instead of the @Option one.

This I don't know.

Having the properties inside the class instead than having them defined in the class decorator probably would help the intellisense.

4:08 PM
Anyway, maybe it's intentional.
Making the component so uncomfortable to work with... Kinda promotes separation of concerns.
It is so messy that you will want to do as little as possible in the component.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе yeah not sure what are the motivation behind this...

@ShadowWizardWearingMask to be fair, so far, the felling I got is that whoever made Vue couldn't decide if he wanted to copy React or Angular.
since the two are quite opposite view on some aspects.... you get the idea.
neither fish nor fowl.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе is it a single person? Looks like it was a group. No?
Think I got it... it started with a single person, but now it's a large and very diverse team. vuejs.org/v2/guide/team.html
So each and their own style, result is.... mess.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask for a second, before the photo loaded, my blood turned to ice when I saw that name
Evan

Well that's not a rare name.

4:23 PM
luckily not Evan@makeStackGreatAgain

heh
With all his... down sides... I won't mind using something he wrote.
Will be interesting to see how many of those in the page are also on SO. :)
The creator appears to be on SO.

lol

Though not active anymore.

In the meantime, more oranges.
RELEASE. THE. UPDATE. TRAILER.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask You have my sympathy. Honeymoons should never be that cold.

@Ollie well it was in the warmest season, I think.
It was at night. :)

As it should be ;)
Anyway, I don't doubt that was the warmest
A friend told me it got down to about -40 F just above North Dakota

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Even Me?

@Ollie hmm... maybe not? It was June. And feel free to see some pictures. photos.app.goo.gl/NkZPFaZtGkL4hcv67 :D
@Aibobot You Won't

Bears!
I've only seen one this year.

also, this is one of the days I am wishing SE had a gadget site
I have a 'fun' issue with my mp3 player, with the screen upside down through several reboots, a firmware flash....

@Ollie "only" lol... no bears in Israel, at all... :D
@Aibobot isn't there hardware site?

that's hardware recs
there's no site for stuff like that
I'm trying their forums...

Q: Which Stack Exchange community is related to queries based on electronic gadgets?

dr.drizzyI have a question about my JBL Pulse 3, I wanted to know which community could help me in that. I want to know if I could connect a JBL Pulse 2 with JBL Pulse 3 using JBL connect. I obviously googled that but I got no answers.

Question:
Does the Vox Pupuli badge apply to close/delete/etc. votes as well?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Oh yes there are :)
The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem (Hebrew: גן החיות התנ"כי בירושלים על שם משפחת טיש‎, Arabic: حديقة الحيوان الكتابية في أورشليم القدس‎ Ḥadīqat al-Ḥaiwān al-Kitābīya Ūrushalīm al-Quds), popularly known as the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, is a zoo located in the Malha neighborhood of Jerusalem, Israel. It is famous for its Afro-Asiatic collection of wildlife, many of which are ascribed in the Hebrew Bible, as well as for its success in breeding endangered species. According to Dun and Bradstreet, the Biblical Zoo was the most popular tourist attraction in Israel from 2005 to 2007, and logged...
> The zoo sees its primary goal as the conservation of endangered species. These include animals mentioned in the Bible which are now extinct in Israel, such as the Asian lion, the Syrian brown bear,

I found an article on a new major Windows exploit.
It's pretty good.

@DavidPostill we get the occasional Syrian brown bear up here in the Golan as well

that sounds like a fun exploit

still needs a local attacker though
... does it work over WiFi?

4:56 PM
@user400654 Fun for the hacker.
@JohnDvorak I don't know, I could try it over a NAT Network in my virtual machines...
Two devices: One Linux, one Windows.

5:36 PM
@Ollie Nope.

5:51 PM
@Ollie I would rather name it, Iron-Man exploit drive than the given ZZZ name

Q: How to choose an AES encryption mode (CBC ECB CTR OCB CFB)?

CheesoWhich of them are preferred in which circumstances? I'd like to see the list of evaluation crtieria for the various modes, and maybe a discussion of the applicability of each criterion. For example, I think one of the criteria is "size of the code" for encryption and decryption, which is impo...

Why is the "late answers" light gray instead of red, like the others, in the Review Queues menu?
Why aren't all the lights in red?

depends on how full each queue is
the more full ones - i.e. the more urgent ones - are in red

@Mithical Here on Meta, I've seen a red light on the Close Votes queue with only one review item.

yes, different sites have different thresholds
