@JourneymanGeek Why not plug a wireless keyboard/mouse combo into it, as a backup in case that happens?

@SonictheMaskedWerehog no place to sit

I'd need to move my chair

Behind the chair

I can't move my chair cause it would wake up my dog
its a gaming chair, I couldn't see the screen or reach the power switch

!!/blame᠎ ⁣‍⁣

@SonictheMaskedWerehog It's Ollie's fault.

12:15 AM
mfw you find the solution to your own would-be question before you click post
I never noticed we had cooking too
wait, this one is obviously a spam :O first time i see one on SE

Right? We have Alcohol.SE, and Coffee.SE too!

Nice! didn't know

Oh, that definitely is.

they prob do this for google seo ranking -_-

Probably.
Monday is typically when the spammers come out to play.

12:22 AM
Now i understand how garfield must feel - he's probably feeling like a mod every Monday

lol
tbh we don't deal with that much spam

I've noticed that the big three are SO, SU, and Meta.

and I mostly just hit them after smokey does and nuke the account

That's anecdotal though

@JourneymanGeek that's probably why i never saw any spam until now

12:26 AM
@Spevacus I'm completely confused over why meta

Same!

they probably have it in their scraper, and it look for valid place to place text
you would be surprised the sites and place ppl use for seo ranking...

SU - one of our mods is active on SD and... he's efficient .

@NordineLotfi If you're curious how Stack Exchange fights spam, have a look at the writeup ArtOfCode did. It's pretty well-written.

MSE - I have an RSS feed to smokey, and a healthy rivalry with that bot over getting spam :D

12:28 AM
@Spevacus nice! will check it out, thanks.
@JourneymanGeek you made your own scraper or use some already existing api?

@NordineLotfi I'm not a coder
but I have an odd relationship with team smokey, I'm sort of their constructive antagonist :D
I feel it discourages manual flagging, but it is undoubtedly effective, so I go, "It would be nice to..."
so one of those things are RSS feeds per site for what smokey flags

@JourneymanGeek I see! that's still pretty commendable to me, even if you're not a coder :)

In theory that lets me audit what is autoflagged
in practice, I go in after smokey and chew on the spammers when they're down.

@Rob that almost sound like the word "hipster" but that's just me :D
@JourneymanGeek that's cool!

There's an "other" section on Metasmoke's autoflag categories. @JourneymanGeek, are these mod flags on conflicting feedback on posts in which flags were cast by Charcoal members?
More bluntly: Have you seen these before?

12:36 AM
@Spevacus Yes

Nice, I was wondering if something like that happened when I stumbled into this category.

So, anyone using Vim/Emacs here? :>

@NordineLotfi These sites are totally for you.

@Spevacus oh yeah, I asked a decent amount of stuff there already :D

Ah, shoulda checked (read: stalked) your profile before posting them I guess, eh? Hahaha.

12:41 AM
it's just my favorite first phrase to say when i want to start a convo (kinda cliché i know)

@NordineLotfi nano on terminals, sublime everywhere else :D

@JourneymanGeek Nice, i still use nano myself when i break Vim/Emacs/or just out of habit :)
I still can't figure out Joe for some reason, but it's better for huge files imo

I mostly need it to edit config files ;D

@JourneymanGeek I see. Wish someone could implement the way it can open huge files to other editor, as this is the only one i know that can do that (with next to nothing as memory used)
the guy who made Joe post a lots on youtube usually too, though i forgot his youtube channel id hmm

@SonictheMaskedWerehog cause you'll ask - the bug tag is intentional. I consider it a very big bug that we don't have enough CMs. And that there's no roles is covered under "What I haven't seen are community roles. I'm a little baffled (and mildly impatient) over the lack of movement over what should be essential ground level hires."
I'll remove the bug tag myself in a day or two
For those reasons though, I'm rolling it back to what it was

Rob
3:21 AM
When I read the Tag Info for it leads me to believe that your question won't be directed to the correct people. If you read the Tag Info for and you might agree.

@JourneymanGeek Thanks for letting me know. I had removed because its usage wasn't in line with the guidelines in the tag wiki and FAQ on how MSE works, but if you say so, I'll leave it in. I have, however, re-added the link to the job listings page, as I feel it's important to the post (in a different spot), and reinstated the spelling/grammar correction edits.

I left that out also cause it won't age well - at some point the jobs page will change
and I was trying to bring attention to an immediateish issue

Rob
Can you immediately add a bounty?

@JourneymanGeek Would an Archive link solve that issue, or would you prefer it be removed?
@Rob No, mods can't bypass the 2-day rule.

@SonictheMaskedWerehog not too sure
@Rob No, and it feels like a waste

3:25 AM
SE staff themselves stated they don't really respond to bounties

I pretty much want something that folks can point and and go "Hey, so... parts of the community is wondering where we are on this?"

Rob
I've wasted 50 here or there, on high rep (even CM's) posts - depends how strongly you feel, and how high a roller you are - but if you can't, you can't.

yup
the mechanics won't let me
and uh, it dosen't particularly feel useful.
and I don't think I need a bounty to get community attention for it. Even if I didn't expect the flik in the comments :D

Rob
File a feature request for that, and link to the other question - twice the exposure.

eh, not how I play the game :D

Rob
3:29 AM
Well I think it might not be well received at the top if you Featured your personal peeve.

lol
While I occationally use featured posts to make a point.... :D
Mostly its when we want to commemorate former members of staff. NEVER for my own posts

21
A: Why are mods declining flags to add [featured] to pertinent questions?

Monica CellioOn any other site, featuring a question on meta features it on that site (only). Moderators can and do use the "featured" tag locally to highlight things that are important to their communities. Here on Meta, featuring a question features that question on every site on the network. We don't ha...

TL;DR the general policy is to leave the decision of which MSE posts to feature to SE staff, since featuring here is network-wide rather than just per-site. There are some extremely rare exceptions, but this is the general rule.

@Rob also uh
If you haven't noticed. Being popular with the people who run the network always takes second place to what I think is the good of the community :D

Rob
Ah, regular uh

One way to look at it is (amongst many alternative examples) is: A (somewhat) luxury cruise ship that has quite a few features (golf, skeet shooting, go-kart racing, laser tag, aqua park, FlowRider, Zip Line, Ultimate Abyss Slide, etc. One problem is that there are few crew members and frequently you must fend for yourself. The owners offer the service for free, paying for not only the equipment but the electricity and moorage fees too. Get on/off anytime.

4:17 AM
On the other hand, I uh... feel like having a happy healthy community > keeping the absentee landlords happy

Rob
5:23 AM
That cruise (plus expenses) costs U$1000 per week, they even have weird restaurants that serves weird food, and you eat what they decide to bring you. People seem quite happy to pay for that.

Question:
Why doesn't the red circle show up on the "Review Queues" tab next to the Achievement Icon, when there's something that needs reviewing?

1:17 PM
there's a threshold IIRC

It shows up on AskUbuntu for me.
This must have been serial-voted, or one of them, the downvote's gone.
And this one.
@JourneymanGeek ?

@Ollie If you had a serial vote undone uhhh I think its shown as voting undone

I meant the IIRC threshold.

there's a threshold for the red dot to turn up
a certain size of queue

Oh.

@JourneymanGeek ping me to bounty cms where aret

@202324 you can't, it's too new.
Also why do you want people to ping you?? Just set a bounty where you want.

Also note a lot of questions are already bountied.
For maximum effect, you may want to wait a few days.

Does anyone know where I can find the SE rules by which a user can be suspended from participating in a chat? Thanks

it's the same rules that apply everywhere else on the stack network, only the mechanisms for it occurring are slightly different

3:24 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's your 0G phones, that's the problem:
Mobile radio telephone systems were telephone systems of a wireless type that preceded the modern cellular mobile form of telephony technology. Since they were the predecessors of the first generation of cellular telephones, these systems are sometimes retroactively referred to as pre-cellular (or sometimes zero generation, that is, 0G) systems. Technologies used in pre-cellular systems included the Push to Talk (PTT or manual), Mobile Telephone Service (MTS), Improved Mobile Telephone Service (IMTS), and Advanced Mobile Telephone System (AMTS) systems. These early mobile telephone systems can...

@rene Great, thanks. I have a lot to read ;-)

Are there any uses for having the + character be part of the middle of a tag name?

when + is part of the technology name

@user400654 Are there any such technologies?

@user400654 Revised the question

i mean
there being two +'s means one is in the middle
:)

Let me rephrase. Is there any use of tag names that contain an alphanumeric character, followed by a plus sign, followed by an alphanumeric character?

LOL

@Ollie Lies!

Damn.
It's within the measurement error!

@user400654 That doesn't technically count...anyway...the reason I'm asking is because of this bug.
