@Feeds The cartoon is fact-based: "Source location of the 26 sec microseism from cross‐correlations of ambient seismic noise", but the location starred is a little off.

"related" is MIA again?

Either again or still, depends

@Sha Less than you wanted to know.
@M.A.R. It seems that the data is available for older questions: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/288120/… but this is the newest it works on: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/352810/… - the newest questions seem blank, though some of them may have nothing related.

6:44 AM
@Rob that is weird. That paper doesn't say anything about the depth. Isn't there enough signal to determine that?

Rob
I can read (at least some of it) in an hour or so ...
Range is easier to derive than depth, considering how many samples they needed just to get such a rough estimate of the location:

@rene Check out: "Waveform Fitting of Cross Spectra to Determine Phase Velocity Using Aki’s Formula by William Menke and Ge Jin" (One source: citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/… ) page: 1625 --- I'll have more time to research in a few more hours. --- Short answer: very low frequency, relatively few measurements, large error, low resolution.

interesting. I compare with events like this: knmi.nl/nederland-nu/seismologie/aardbevingen/… starting here knmi.nl/nederland-nu/seismologie/aardbevingen but both magnitude and the number of nearby stations are way different for these events.

You replaced long with Int64 because the code reviewer said so?

@rene lol no... Logic of reading current season changed, so all code parts using it changed. And there are many... :/

OMG, ancient mystery solved. I found what happened to @CRABOLO.....

Q: What should I do without hot water in the shower?

CRABOLOI just woke up, it's -20 degrees Fahrenheit outside, I have to be at work soon, and now I just found out that the hot water heater isn't working, so the water is freezing cold! I'm smelly as can be and my hair is a mess. I don't want my hair to look like bed hair or greasy. I can't take a shower ...

Poor soul froze.
@CRABOLO is this correct? ^ :D
(this time totally don't expect any answer)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I remember commenting on this question/answer...

Realy?? lol still didn't look that deep.
Someone replied recently bumping it, so I noticed.

apparently, not. Perhaps on a related question on another SE site...

Q: What's the best way to take a cold shower?

FlimzyThis is a question that most people probably never think about, because it's an every-day thing. But for many of us, such as myself, who grew up in more western cultures, with more modern conveniences, visiting places that don't have hot water can be quite an adjustment, perhaps even more diffic...

Cross site dupe, yeah.

Wow, I sounded too chatty back then :D

> wrap your body with towel quickly after finishing for the aforementioned reason, and try not to catch a cold!
Yup. :-D
During army I had no choice but to take cold showers many times. :(
For me, being with others in the same situation helped, morally at least. :D
Dunno if it will fit as answer though.... "Take the shower with other people". LOL
@Ollie what you think? Or do you need a coffee first?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Didn't you have what John said back then?
@rene, there's a Tag on our Earth Sciences site: earthscience.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/microseism if you need an expert's answer.

2:19 PM
Thanks, I'll read up and see if a question would be useful.

@rene no, ANGULAR
You see? It's already big.
And if it's enough time inside the dirty water, it will become VUE

Still not as bad as Java though. By any measure.

@Rob no, those are brand new for me, but how would letters in a circle help with cold shower?
@JohnDvorak J*va... urgh... it's the Classic ASP of JavaScript. :P

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Google announced generic 'initials in a circle' avatars almost half a dozen years ago, there's a GitHub source to generate them; but they're new for you - OK. You seemed pretty excited about them, unfortunately it's not a new idea. --- The suggestion that "if you only had that while showering" is called humor, unfortunately it's not a n̶e̶w̶ ̶i̶d̶e̶a̶ funny. 😃

@Rob lol... I know! I am excited for the super easy way to generate them without any effort. ;)
I created several avatar generators in the past, from scratch. :)
And I still don't get how it's related to shower, lol.

The real way to do that is to use a div with corner-radius:50% with letters centered inside it, and fed through a web view renderer

BTW, those cold showers were much more than half a dozen years ago, more like two dozen years ago. @Rob
Back then there was barely internet.... o_O
(1996)

The issue for me, always, was to host stuff, as I didn't want to start paying for a real host. :)

Rob
The second one has example images that look identical to your two huge images above, but it's likely that the first one looks the same.

The technical part of writing the code is less of an issue, and once it's done, it's done - I might dig my own code sometime.

Rob
There's lots of free hosting, even without ADs. The sites even have a WYSIWYG editor to drag and drop features and text; create a fancy website in 1/2 an hour with no knowledge of HTML/CSS/etc.

Anyway, need your advice on UX matter.... think the part in red is sticking out enough while not being too annoying for the user?
:)
(and yes, all the changes I've done boiled down to the ability to show that message ;))

@ShadowWizardWearingMask ugh ...

3:05 PM
@rene breath
It might help. :D

Rob
My only advice, not being able to read it, is: if it's a notification it could be a tiny bit smaller, if it's a warning it could be a bit bigger - either way could it be narrower, so it fits between the two circles; unless it only applies to the second circle, then it should be narrower and centered above it. **2¢**™
@rene Boop.

@Rob it applies to the whole page, and result of the text to its right.
The text to the right is the page caption, it says "Club Registration" followed by the (Hebrew) season for which the page applies. If the user chose to view old season data, they should not be able to add/edit/delete this data, and that's what the message in red says.
Here is the whole top part of the page:
To the left there is the logged user name, and logout link.
(in the same line as the caption)

Rob
If the red text was centered and the black text to the right was above it "would that be better"? - My inability to read makes it difficult to offer suggestions beyond what was already offered. Even if translated, there a chance that it's more common to present things in a particular way, which differs from North America (and native English speakers).

Yeah, the main problem is that the graphic designer who designed it all is now gone, so I'm on my own. :/

increase vertical margin?
Or align horizontally, if the two elements are related

3:14 PM
@JohnDvorak what elements? The red box and the line below? Not really related, the line below is the tabs.

Then I'd suggest adding more space between them

It's a registration form with several steps, each step displayed as a tab.

Same margin above the tabs as below them, methinks

Rob
At the very least it should be moved a tiny bit to the left, to better align with the text at the bottom; which I understand has nothing to do with the rest of the text. I do understand RTL, and use it myself for aligning numbers in tables, but you seem to have two different right margins (I understand that the text at the bottom is seperate; perhaps if it's border were an additional pixel thicker ...

I think the tab line is supposed to be horizontally centered?

3:19 PM
@JohnDvorak no, it just has right: 20%; CSS rule.
That's not my design. :)

... O_O

Most of that page was built by a co-worker based on a design we got from a professional graphics designer, I just need to add bits here and there, like now with that warning when the user can't make changes.

That seems ... problematic, given that the screen size can change relative to the bar

(the co-worker is assigned to different project)
@JohnDvorak yeah, the whole design is based on the assumption of using a big screen.
Think the designer was asked to give mobile view design as well, but never checked about it or asked to do that. Luckily. :D
Anyway, will try to increase the margin between the message and the tabs below, thanks. :)

Avoid jumpy reflows,

Rob

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Description of the problem: meta.stackexchange.com/q/307031/282094
The red and black should be center. A translation might help. Back in 1/2 hour.

@Rob well, I won't go and change the basic design.... but if the client will insist on such a change, will use that tip. Thanks. :)
@JohnDvorak yeah, that make sense.

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask The page you are showing us looks like a subway styled chart, there's an expectation of its contents, format, etc.; and notifications / warnings should be centered at the top, fine print (TL;DR) at the bottom.

@Rob agree about notification in the center, might do that. :)

Rob
4:02 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask There are many "subway styled charts": see how it's centered, but sometimes it's not centered and things can go off to the side; and still be important. Remember: It's not just for train cars, (almost) anything can be displayed in the 'subway map style'.

I love that it says you can aerobrake at Kerbol

Rob
4:18 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask If that line can get (be) longer then it should start from (go off of) the side; but should it be the other side? - It looks like it goes RTL, LTR, RTL (which isn't correct). If that's the whole line it should be centered, and not cut off.
IE: Red & black text centered, the 'line' centered and cut off on the left, and what's below that is OK. (?)

Rob

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It begs the question: i.stack.imgur.com/yjlT6.jpg

Hi folks, is this the right SE site that I posted this Q in?

Q: How to remove horizontal page-break line (dotted and bold) that appear on tables in Google Docs?

BaumrBackground I used a method described in this answer by downloading the Chrome plugin User JavaScript & CSS by adding the following code: .kix-page-compact::before{ border-top: none; } As a result, I was able to remove this horizontal, dotted line that you can see below: Problem However, the...

Or better on SO?

@Baumr I doubt SO would be happy with that. Too much ready made. Did you consider/ check Super User?

err

@rene Off topic on Super User. It belongs where it is, on WebApps

@DavidPostill the comment on their question suggests otherwise

@rene Hmm. Google-docs and G-Suite are explicitly off topic on Super User

8:36 PM
@Baumr can you check in this search if your question is similar and if the questions that are well received would compare to your question (complexity / detail / technique). If that comes out posiitive then SO could fit. Alternatively ask on MSO first.
@DavidPostill I'll try to remember that.

Rob
Yo' Shorty. Yo' club's like Fitty's, not eyecandy like a club people would actually go to. :) Not @Rubiks safe, @rene (:

well, they're essentially looking for a userscript in this case
if i'm understanding the question
the expertise they need is CSS, which falls under the SO banner, but it's not programming related... it's related to using google docs... kinda just falls through the cracks

@user400654 Super User doesn't do css user scripts either.

It reads like a poor fit anywhere at the moment.

best bet might be SO chat
one css, or html related

Rob
@rene I wouldn't encourage those two to answer, best flag "no longer needed" and clear those comments out.

if you say so

goo.gl/GBw73w for that room
doesn't necessarily say this one isn't allowed,
:p
it's of course more meant for actual html/css work rather than a userscript, but it seems like it'd be the best fit

@user400654 It's chat. Most chat rooms say as long as you're not being an !@#$ and nothing more pertinent is going on, everything goes.

what's that referring to
something else i think

Rob
9:11 PM
@rene You have ~1/10 the number of views you need for an answer, only a couple of dozen looky-lous thus far - wait for the weekend. --- Here is two tenths of the answer: earthscience.stackexchange.com/a/348/15154 earthscience.stackexchange.com/a/2593/15154 and the bit from me: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8512880#8512880 . But it's your question ...

@Rob Thanks for the extra pointers. As for the question I can wait. I think it is my second question on a topic I'm totally not fluent in, so it is a good experiment/experience for me.

Rob
9:32 PM
@rene I believe the word you are looking for is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypocenter and here's a link with some terminology to improve your question: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seismic_noise

9:47 PM
@Rob I gave it another edit.

Rob
Transparent TV 📺👀
@rene I'd suggest removing the sentence: "Is seismic noise here a relevant factor?" --- That's what you are asking about, it's relevant; it's the subject of the question.

okay, done
