@DavidPostill There could be people who choose to argue Napoleon's cause of death. It has been resolved that Napoleon was exposed to arsenic throughout his life, even as a child, and that he died of stomach cancer; as did his father. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon#Cause_of_death - which refers to Cullen's book.

This question arose on Chinese.SE meta Should we use different word limits in comment for Chinese and English?. Similar questions have arisen before both at Chinese.SE and Japanese.SE.
Basically, useful comments in Chinese with few characters are blocked. And obstructively long comments are not blocked.
I wonder if there's precedent here? Is it possible to change the comment character limits?

@RebeccaJ.Stones It is possible, but done on a site-by-site basis it's one more thing to track - you'll require a compelling reason. There is Jeff's thoughts, and the Comment Instructions: Use comments to ask for clarification or add more information. Avoid comments like "+1" or "Thanks". - You'll need to be convincing that a particularly short comment (even in a language where a character is a word, or two) is only possible and that a longer
comment would just be padded.

To think like a machine, you have to speak its language.

@Rob +1 Thanks! (:

Wee I voted :D
ANd took less than 10 minutes. I took an elevator down, noticed there was no queue, walked around to the other side of my building, went through the identification, ballot issue, and voting process, and took the elevator back up

@JourneymanGeek you were prepared for a longer queue?

@rene co workers and non MSM press are reporting long queues

I see. Would it be beneficial for the powers that be that there is a low turn out and reporting long queues might turn away voters?

You would expect that you can kind of plan for how much capacity you need to not have inhumane queues.

One would think so
It was a snap election and the government wanted to take advantage of a break in the covid lockdown to get a fresh mandate

7:43 AM
Ah, I'm only used to have elections once every 4 years of when they are voted off. Not just elections for the sake of it.

July 2020 Welcome to ISSUE #29 of the Overflow! This newsletter is by developers, for developers, written and curated by the Stack Overflow team and Cassidy Williams at Netlify. @user400654 That's a huge missed chance to post a checkmark or cross emoji ;)

Hi, hope I'm asking this in the right place. I just got access to the triage queue on StackOverflow, but I am not certain of what to flag a non-English post as. The closest flags I can see are "Needs debugging details" or "Not reproducible or was caused by a typo". Which would be more appropriate to select?

unclear
Let me check how it's called now
Apparently it's called "needs details or clarity" even if it's totally appropriate for stream-of-consciousness type of posts

Great, thank you.

A: Do posts have to be in English on Stack Exchange?

mmcdole tl;dr: Unless you're posting on a language-related site (e.g. French Language) or a site where all questions are expected to be in a different language (e.g. Stack Overflow in Spanish), yes, all posts are expected to be in English. A special case exists for the Russian language; see below. What...

@SonictheMaskedWerehog Wait... No Dutch in that graph? We need one specifically for this chat, I'd bet Dutch made the top 10!

Hmm. We need a list of languages which users can star if they speak it fluently

8:38 PM
Sure. But I propose we only put Dutch on the list.

@Tinkeringbell Unfortunately, the sad truth is that Dutch doesn't break 45 million speakers, and is thus not in the top 34

@Tinkeringbell Goed idee, dan zit je gegarandeerd in de top tien!

Also, Chinese now surpasses English, but all those extra speakers mostly just come from one country

@SonictheMaskedWerehog What about all the people that get broken trying to learn Dutch!? :)
@SonictheMaskedWerehog English is still first if you count first and second languages.
