Czechia has been wearing masks since day 1 and has had very few infections.

I mean, I'd love to be confident enough to trust them... like I said, though... " two layers of the most breathable material they have lying around sewn together" combined with bad use... I'm not saying they don't help, but I've seen too many stories/cases of bad usage to trust that they'll protect me from others.

That, and the fact that my mom is supposed to wear full protective gear when dealing with suspected Covid clients, instead of just putting a mask on them.

There definitely has been plenty of bad use (they do nothing when hanging around the neck!) but there are still enough people that wear them over the face that it does matter.

Medical workers are in greater danger because they spend a lot of time near the infected population - and because if they get infected, they'll spread it on everyone.

Do keep in mind I was replying with some sarcasm to a joke ;) But I still feel there's a core of truth in my reply: If distance means you stay out of reach of each others droplets and staying home when symptomatic means you won't get hit with sneezes that go beyond that distance... masks are just like airport security.
