@Mark but if that ratio is "overloaded", then that's a good thing . . .
Shrug

BOOM HEADSHOT -- JNat, 2020.

3:01 PM
Sara Chipps on March 30, 2020
It’s easy to wonder how leaders, even the good ones, sleep at night. The decisions that come across their desks affect so many lives, jobs, healthcare, human rights. All of these decisions impact large sums of people and their ability to sustain their personal Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It’s hard to imagine how they can…

🤐

Uhm
That's interesting
and probably read more awake

3:41 PM
@JNat thanks!
@Mithical "stop asking employees to make announcements there" is actually "Ordered employees to stop making announcements there", "pull back from the platform a bit" is actually "planned to shut down the platform". I don't have any desire to keep reading when I know it's just.... not the truth.
(not using the actual words to avoid a ban.)
Instead of taking responsibility and apologize.... making excuses and telling fairy tales.... yep, that's a true leader. (Of our modern worlds, it fits perfectly with existing leaders.)
Time for...
!!/relax and coffee

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou No such command 'relax'.

meh
the bridge is burned, all they can do is move forward

meh, we have bigger problems right now

@user400654 well that blog post is not moving forward, it throw salt on wounds.
At least for me.

3:51 PM
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou Yeah, I kept waiting for an apology to materialize but it went from the self-congratulatory 'Ah, us wise "leaders" have the weight of the world on our shoulders' all the way to talking about how it is admirable when "public figures" (do these people think they're in government or something?) admit a mistake publicly, and no apology ever materialized.
Odd. Brings to mind another "apology"... I am starting to see a pattern.

@terdon hmm? Lost me there.

I don't know how I feel about it, and I lack the emotional energy to make my mind up about it

my cup of care has run dry these days

@Magisch Very much this.

3:53 PM
@Magisch well, without job and without anywhere to go physically, many actually have more time to spend on SE.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou I was referring to the infamous and now deleted non-apology that was SE's first reaction to the recent issues.
(I think it's been deleted, I can't find it)

my job is more demanding then usual (shift work), and my friends are either overworked and near breaking point (those in healthcare) recently jobless without perspective or afraid they'll die in agony in a hallway because hospitals are full (the couple with autoimmune diseases)
I really just can not right now

But whatever. The main message, if you read between the lines is "we didn't know what we were talking about" so I guess it's a step in the right direction.

@terdon it was

Just a shame about how there's no apology, again. And the whole self importance bit. I mean, sheesh, this is just a minor private company not a government.
@JourneymanGeek probably for the best

3:56 PM
eh, "we were wrong" is an apology ... partial one, at least

@terdon this? Not deleted yet, probably just forgotten by everyone up there.

@terdon I often find the impact of poor leadership decisions is felt more keenly in small communities
@ShadowWizardisEarForYou the other one

@JourneymanGeek Oh, yes. I just don't see minor managers from random companies as "leaders" or "public figures".

@JourneymanGeek oh, yeah it was deleted by OP.

@terdon Hey, Sara has a verified Twitter account! /s

3:58 PM
Right.

you might say comparing yourself to a government responding to the most serious and deadly pandemic of the last fifty years might be a bit of hubris if you're running a Q/A platform and pissed some people off

to be fair, they upset pretty much everyone that matters
deminated the moderator base and the curator base

@Mithical this reminds me, are verified accounts trusted to not post NSFW stuff? Because one did, yesterday.

@Magisch it's funny, i see the same thinking of the managers at work
They belive they run the world of.. <whatever business we're in> when in reality, we're such small fry.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou *shrugs* it's Twitter, who even knows anything about how it works

4:00 PM
verified is supposed to be a thing that says "this account is this public person" so you know it's not an impostor
iirc

because they're constantly echoing to each other, how great they all are.

verified account only means the username checks out, IIUC

Can anyone fix mah avatar tho? D:

@Magisch yeah
with enough followers you can apply to get verified

the only thing I know about my twitter these days is that it's 75% bad and terrible news (large chunk about trump and whatever outrageous or sociopathic thing he said most recently) and 25% complaining that corona is a hoax to take away freedoms

4:02 PM
Oh, "verified" is some sort of twitter thing? Huh.

so going there at all carries an acute risk of ruining my evening

My Twitter feed contains a lot of artists. And lesbians.

@djsmiley2kStaysInside Gravatar is bad, big time. I keep saying it for years and nobody listen. Upload your avatar directly and it won't break every day.

can we swap
I'm tired of the "DOOM DOOM DOOM EVERYTHING IS DOOMED" undercurrent

sure... just head to my "following" and click "follow" a few hundred times :D

4:03 PM
@Mithical Joe knows.

who's joe and where did he come from

@Mithical Nick is verified for long time, don't think he had large number when applying.
@Mithical בזוקה

I don't know how you people can stand twitter. I follow exactly three people: a friend who posts about once a month, my sister who posts daily and in recent weeks one scientist who's been posting very good info on Covid. And already I get way, way, way too many tweets.
And I've never posted a thing.

@terdon digital self harm? I dont know

4:05 PM
@terdon Keep it on "Latest", mute words, and don't even try to see everything.
I have certain words muted so that Tweets that contain it don't even show up for me at all.
@Rubiksmoose woah

right?

who is left of the original leadership?

> "...This has been in the works for a few months..."
:eyes:

so he decided to leave sometime shortly after posting the apology?

After, before, during. Sounds like it's been in the works since around then.

4:09 PM
I really hope nobody attempts april fools at work this year btw

@Magisch more likely he was already on his way out, which 100% explains his lack of... everything.
Sadly enough, we have this exact case with our finance minister. He declared he quits politics, but got sucked back to it against his will. And sure enough, he's horrible in his job these days.
(Even before the Corona crisis.)
@Magisch maybe the cook?

@Magisch uhm. No idea actually

shog is once again more articulate and analytical then I can muster

Our most requested feature is finally coming to life. You can try out Dark Mode in beta across Stack Overflow and help us make it great.

@ShadowWizardisEarForYou I thought I had :D
it's fine on other chat pages D:

6:13 PM
Anyone around? If so, do the lastactivity links work as expected for you?

@Jenayah Working on MSE for the couple I tried

odd, it doesn't redirect to the latest activty for me
just to the question
same on phone

6:39 PM
@Jenayah oh dang, you're absolutely right

6:49 PM
If the new dark mode is an April Fool's joke I'm leaving this site forever.

@MikeTheLiar hahaha. I can confirm that I've been told in no uncertain terms that it is not.
That would be the height of cruelty.

that's just what they'd want you to think

hehehe. I mean, that would certainly be interesting.

I've already found a bug. Where do I report?

The MSO post

6:53 PM
there's already a very thoroughly tested and feature complete dark mode for all of SE in the form of Sam's userscript

ah, I was looking for a post at MSE

so I guess I'll pass on the beta

what if the userscript is broken by it
